Dopod C800 upgrade (and price drop) - Wing, P4350 General

I need to renew my 838 pro. The receiver belonged to a bad fabrication batch (as happened with the CHT9000) and can not be repaired.
My dilemna of buying a cheap C800:
Though I could brew plenty on my 838Pro, I am afraind the C800 will not give me the same satisfaction.
I can buy the C800 now for around 400 USD here in Taiwan, though still with WM5 in Chinese.
2 questions:
Q1: What is the risk that WM6 in English can not be loaded? i can not find enough concrete info on this wiki?
Q2: is the 200 mhz CPU indeed much slower than the 400 version in my current 838pro?

unlucky there is no english wm5/wm6 in c800.
or you must get a supercid.
Suggest that you change it to p4350
sorry for my poor english

The more profitable Prophet

I decide to buy the Prophet.
I am in Canada so i can have it from expansys.ca
3 choices
Dopod 818 Pro GSM/GPRS Pocket PC (HK, English, Black) 924.95$
i-mate JAMin Pocket PC (EN, Unlocked) 889.95$
Qtek S200 Pocket PC (Worldwide English, Unlocked) 844.95$
I know it is just the marketing cie that change but i like to know
1. If there is more like
Support
Frequence of ROM update (now Dopod seems to release more often)
Can we install differente ROM update (Dopod on a s200 or on jamin)
2. Is other supplier in Canada that i could buy from?
Need to be unlocked and usable anywhere in the world.
3. What Accessories should i buy from the start?
Thanks for your help
First of all, you can install any ROM on any Prophet ( Dopod, Jamin, etc..)
So there is no difference to buy any of Prophet.
Second, to unlock the phone is very easy, you just need to use aWizard.
Third, you need screen protector for sure!
Last, does the web site offer manufactury warrenteey? If, no, there is no difference to buy there or on Ebay. I think you can find better price on ebay for sure. For me, I got my Dopod for around $750 CAD ( from mobile01.com with full warrenteey.) But it's all up to you, if you feel comfertable to buy there.
Anyway, I hope you can enjoy new phone soon.

Anyone can explain price difference btw Qtek S200 and o2 neo

Hi...
i would like to buy a HTC prophet derivate...
as far as i understood from reading the wikipage
there is no technical difference btw e.g.
dopod 818pro, qtek S200 and o2 neo...
However, I oberserved a big difference in price for the latter two in germany (around 80-100 €)... dopod is not available here...
So does anyone knows a reason for this ?
I would very much like to stick to the cheapest one (of course),
but maybe there are some minor differences...
I also read that a dopod with english rom boots faster than a Qtek version with german rom ??
However, one could change this just by loading a new ROM, right ??
thanks for clearing things up...

They are the same apart from the badge painted on them.
Well mostly anyway. They differ only in the software each provider adds to the basic specification. For example O2 will add O2 Plus.
You can indeed flash one prophet ROM with the ROM of the other prophet - but be careful otherwise you will end up with an expensive paper weight.
The price difference relies upon the software bundled and the warranty and tech support you get.
QTek costs less because there's almost lacking tech support, but at least you get twice as much of warranty (2 years vs 1 year) than on other brands.
Hi Rayan...
in fact, the o2 Version is cheaper than the QTek one...!
But thats a different story... Just after i ordered the o2 mobile on monday "night", i noticed that the price was higher on tuesday morning (similar to the Qtek) - maybe i asked too much questions
However, i ordered for the cheaper price; lets see if i will get it...
cu.... Marcel
P.S. in generell i have the feeling that technical support is always a bit disappointing... usually you find more help in these kinds of forums
Hint: O2-prices can vary a *lot* between online shop, O2-stores, independent phone stores and the MediaMarkt stores.
Be sure to check that!
cu
Hi ...
yep, true... But i just got my o2 neo last Friday from an internet store and... the display is heavily damaged... one can use it but it has a huge (20x10 pixs) spot of dead pixls...
So.. having bought it in a slightly more expensive o2 store would be nice now as well... lets see...
cheers.. Marcel

Buying a China T-Mobile Unit. Changing language. PLEASE HELP

I just bought an T-Mobile MDA Pro (universal) in China. It says For Test only and Not for sale on the boot screen. True, I bought it for a cheaper price than usual. Is it safe? Secondly, I want to change to an English ROM. Maybe O2 or Jasjar, or whatever. Can I do that without getting the "cannot be run on this device problem?" Please help. Thank you very much.

I have get an Orange SPV M5000,and changed to Jasjar by myself,No problem!
Sorry to read this post only after SOSOSOSO long...
anyway, I have just upgraded my ROM to the Helmi Rom, with Dopod Asia's Radio and Extended ROM. Still, I am now trying to revive the Chinese input. I tried Maction Chinese SIP but not as good as the originial one included when I bought th eunit.
BTW, I bought it in a mall across from the SHanghai Train Station (The main train interchange in Shanghai). I paid 4500 RMB for it that time. I don't think is a very safe idea to buy from the net in CHina.
你好!我也在北京买过这种手机。问题是手机是修改过的。Roms可以随便刷。我刷成English O2 and Taiwan Dopod 900 Version,It's ok!
And If you want use China Mobile Sim V2.0 Like M-Zone.You need Upgrage radio mode software to V1.13 or v1.14.10
!
the China Shenzhen edit radio is V 1.04

What Variants of Hermes are Available in HKG

Hi Hermes Owners!
--
Just wanted to know what variants of the Hermes are available in HKG. I'm on my way to HKG in 2 weeks and am looking to purchase a second PocketPC Phone.
--
I really fancy the HTC TyTn or dopod CHT 9000 but I like the HTC TyTn more because the CHT 9000 has Chinese characters on the thumb board which is a bit confusing if I'm going to use the device in English.
--
The dopod 838 pro is nice and all, but I like the look of the TyTn more.
--
So this is the question... are the TyTn and/or CHT 9000 available anywhere in HKG? If yes where can I get it and how much would it be? If they are not available is the 838pro already available, how much is it going for? Of course I'm asking about English OS devices please. Thanks in advanced for any info.

Regards from Manila
Pards,
Dopod838Pro, CHT9000 and O2 Trion are available in HK. Only the first is the official one (with local warranty) and widespread. All of them are available in English.
I like the O2 trion design, but I dumped mine since it has alignmnet issue and bought Dopod instead, whihc has the almost same design and with local warranty since I live in HK. But the Trion is cheaper...I dont like the HTC and CHT 9000 design...
Bummer no HTC TyTn... so you would suggest the 838pro over the other variants cause it has warranty. However I live in Manila so the Hong Kong warranty wouldn't really do me any good do you think I should wait for the 838pro to get to Manila it would probably take ages and be much too overpriced... We don't even have the 838 here yet officially [they are a lot in the tiangges of V-Mall, I even saw Cingular branded ones but brand new ones are so few]. How much did you get the 838pro there in Hong Kong?
I got the O2 a month ago for 5.2K and the dopod is now 6.1K (on 24 months installment) with 1GB uSD.
I heard that dopod838pro will be released in Manila this month..
Well I don't think they'd accept int'l cards for those installment deals [tried to purchase a notebook on installment last January at FORTRESS and I was told they don't accept int'l credit cards] so I'd have to pay cash I guess. Hmmm 6K for the Hermes... is it AKU3.0 already? I have AKU3.0 [by Ivan] on my Exec and am loving it... I just need a spare phone really but the HTC s620 still hasn't been announced and SAMSUNGs SGH-i607 is slated for an end of the year [possibly early next year release] so I was thinking why not get the Hermes first but 6K HKD is kinda steep for a spare phone, I tried using a v3i as a spare phone but missed the full sync that outlook and windows mobile does... if the 838pro will be out in Manila this month then I might see it here before I go to HKG on the 20th... hopefully they price it competitively. I hear the CHT 9000 is around 36,000 PhP in Taiwan but then again the chinese strokes on the keyboard are very confusing... oh my now I don't know if I should wait for the HTC s620, Samsung SGH-i607 or just get the Dopod 838pro. Also there has still been no additional leaks about the Universal successor [HTC Omni] which was mentioned a few weeks back, I was hoping to see even mock ups or planned specs atleast about that... anyway sectorlord thanks for all the great info really appreciate it.
I just saw the MDA T-Mobile Variants in Mongkok... sells for 4.8K ..
Wow, looks so sexy and the front keys layout and shape is the BEST of all the variants..

About to buy a Dopod D810

G'Day fellas,
I'm about to buy a Dopod D810 over ebay(never owned a PDA phone in my life, total noob). The unit that I'm about to purchase is locked to Vodafone.
First question, is the HTC p3600i much better/faster than the D810 in terms of performance and multitasking? I know they both use the same processors with different clocks and that the p3600i has double the ROM...any other differences?
Now, I know there is an unlocker for the D810 on here but just to confirm, it can be unlocked from the vodafone network, right?
Also, once I unlock it using pof's unlock tool, I heard I have to upgrade the radio ROM in order for the GPS to work? Any guide to how to upgrade the radio ROM?
I intend on upgrading the dopod to akeo's WM6.1 ROM....is this rom any good? Any precautions I should take?
I think that's it for now...
Cheers fellas,
NM
ps. Am I buying a good phone or should I fork out more money for the TyTn II?? I'm really fussy with lag and generally slow menus, I don't require that much multitasking...
