G'Day fellas,
I'm about to buy a Dopod D810 over ebay(never owned a PDA phone in my life, total noob). The unit that I'm about to purchase is locked to Vodafone.
First question, is the HTC p3600i much better/faster than the D810 in terms of performance and multitasking? I know they both use the same processors with different clocks and that the p3600i has double the ROM...any other differences?
Now, I know there is an unlocker for the D810 on here but just to confirm, it can be unlocked from the vodafone network, right?
Also, once I unlock it using pof's unlock tool, I heard I have to upgrade the radio ROM in order for the GPS to work? Any guide to how to upgrade the radio ROM?
I intend on upgrading the dopod to akeo's WM6.1 ROM....is this rom any good? Any precautions I should take?
I think that's it for now...
Cheers fellas,
NM
ps. Am I buying a good phone or should I fork out more money for the TyTn II?? I'm really fussy with lag and generally slow menus, I don't require that much multitasking...

I bought my Magician on eBay and it is the best phone I have ever had. The phone is amazing. But of course 2 months have passed and I am dying to improve the phone. The Brand is a DOPOD 818, which is the HTC magician or Imate JAM.
I see everyone here has the ROM 1.06, mine is 1.01.00WWE with a ROM Date of 10/21/04/ I am sure I should be upgrading my ROM for the enhancements but I am not sure how or where to go.
Everyone says to go to Club Imate but unfortunately my IMEI is registered through DOPOD and not Imate. The DOPOD site does not look like it has an updated ROM.
Can I use a generic ROM? Where can I get one? I am in the USA using T-Mobile, if that helps.
Please let me know what I should do.
Thanks,
John
I decide to buy the Prophet.
I am in Canada so i can have it from expansys.ca
3 choices
Dopod 818 Pro GSM/GPRS Pocket PC (HK, English, Black) 924.95$
i-mate JAMin Pocket PC (EN, Unlocked) 889.95$
Qtek S200 Pocket PC (Worldwide English, Unlocked) 844.95$
I know it is just the marketing cie that change but i like to know
1. If there is more like
Support
Frequence of ROM update (now Dopod seems to release more often)
Can we install differente ROM update (Dopod on a s200 or on jamin)
2. Is other supplier in Canada that i could buy from?
Need to be unlocked and usable anywhere in the world.
3. What Accessories should i buy from the start?
Thanks for your help
First of all, you can install any ROM on any Prophet ( Dopod, Jamin, etc..)
So there is no difference to buy any of Prophet.
Second, to unlock the phone is very easy, you just need to use aWizard.
Third, you need screen protector for sure!
Last, does the web site offer manufactury warrenteey? If, no, there is no difference to buy there or on Ebay. I think you can find better price on ebay for sure. For me, I got my Dopod for around $750 CAD ( from mobile01.com with full warrenteey.) But it's all up to you, if you feel comfertable to buy there.
Anyway, I hope you can enjoy new phone soon.
Hi
I'm a newbie, have checked but can't see anyone has asked this specific question before:
I'd like an xda trion but I've been told by O2 it won't be coming to the uk.
So my question is, if I got hold of an unlocked HTC Hermes or one of it's equivalents and put in my o2 3g sim - could I use all of it's features?
i.e. would this be like using a Trion but without all the O2 software etc..
Also is there a recommended model to buy? - i.e. HTC or imate etc
Thanks
Do you really need to stay with O2 ? Because the T-Mobile and other operator deals can give you a 12/18 month contract + Hermes for the same price as a device without contract.

I bought an unlocked TyTN from mobilefun.co.uk aswell as a 1GB microSD (the UltraII one). Works a charm, no rpobelsm(LOL leaving that for irony) whatsoever (apart from ones ive made hehe). Its the HTC branded TyTN but ive flashed it with the imate JASJAM ROM and used the HTC ext rom to get the standard green content etc.... (having tried the updated unnofficial HTC rom, aswell as the dopod rom). 3G works a treat and im still on my O2 online contract (sim only.....1 month rolling contract...£25 line rental...1000 txts and 1000 off-peak minutes)
O2 is pretty good for me and im ok with not having the full speed internet and settling for (around) 1mbps on 3G.
kevino - I wish I could, my current contract doesn't finish until April though.... there's no way out is there?
mrvanx - thanks for the info that's great. Think I'll look for second hand though, it's expensive isn't it.
Also I'll have to look in to all this rom update stuff to get it all sorted.
Thanks guys - very helpful.
Kenny
Kenny,
April is a long way off. I just moved to T-Mobile because of W'n'W. Depending on your usage it may be worth your while to just get a new contract anyway. You can, I believe, buy out your contract if you want to keep your number. Anyway I'm sure you'll know what's best for yourself.
Hi all
Thinking of purchasing a Hermes but want to know if there is any difference between the various makes currently sold in the UK ?
ie SPV M3100 or MDA Vario 2 etc
Apart from the cosmetic differences obviously !!
Thanks
Andy
The only differences are the customised crap that the operators put on the devices. Like you said the cosmetic differences are obvious. If you flashed the various things used on here:
HardSPL, new radio and a WM6 flavour they would be identical.
I personally said ballz to the operator ones and got an unbranded HTC TyTN from mobilefun.co.uk.
There should be no hardware differences.
Software is a different matter as each network operator will customise the software.
I believe Orange heavily customise theirs. I also have a friend who has had problems with their Orange M3100 which appears to be software related. But this shouldn't pose a problem if you are willing to upgrade to a vanilla OS.
I have a V1605 on Vodafone which I quickly unlocked and SuperCID'd shortly after receiving it.
I currently run Windows Mobile 6 (LSVW edition) on it which has been "cooked" by some very talented people from this forum.
Despite being relatively old the Hermes is still a very capable device and now that WM6 is available should mean it has an even longer lifespan.

How is the hermes old?? It was released in its first flavour (the TyTN) last august?!!
Get an O or T subsidised model (ie for free) then flash WM6 and latest radio!
@ mrvanx
6 months + in the world of technology is old. Plus look at how many models HTC have released since the Hermes.
I admit that I prob won't be replacing my Hermes any time soon now that WM6 is available. Plus I'm happy with my Hermes. It does all that I need it to do.

BUY OR NOT? I can save about 150$ but i see that ppl have many problems with it. so i don't know buy or not. I would like to see your opinion/

im form israel....
I'm a junior, I do my best to answer urs question.
1) both X01HT and Tytn are using the same platform-Hermes. they pretty muc the same. Just X01HT is Japan version that out with their carrier "softbank", so it come with a Japaness rom. Tytn is europe version.
2) u can put tytn rom on x01ht, but need to be unlocked
3) cheaper when the time I bought it.
4) G900.. you won't get the support from XDA, you can see pretty much all the discussion are HTC platform pda. if you want better one you should just go for HTC Kaiser.
5) really don't, it depends on you carrier. check to see if they carrier similar product.http://pdadb.net
