Buy JasJar/ Qtek 9000/ Universal in China?

I my friends,
in some weeks, a friend of mine is going to travel to Chinese, and I want to know if it´s posible get the Universal over there cheaper than expansys and if there is any problem with the ROM to change it to english or the operator.

You can't get cheap in China ,China don't had WiFi so you can't find in China , you can find in HongKong the price same as US or UK,Taiwan had Dopod 900 about NT31,250.00 to NT34,000.00 but this for CHT ROM , you can change to JJ ROM .

Wizard Availability in Hong Kong

Hi all. I'm looking to purchase a Wizard when I go to Hong Kong this January.

I was wondering if the Wizard is available in stores already [i.e. like WAN CHAI COMP CENTER or FORTRESS]

I need a device in English [so the keyboard will be in QWERTY]

If it is not available in stores yet then maybe I'll order off Expansys HK and just claim it when I'm there...

Any HK peeps out here? Your input will be welcome and appreciated...

In hk, the dopod838(htc wizard) is your only choice.
you dont need to worry too much.
Eng and chi version are both available in market.
You can get one from any store.
Because most people target on Dopod818 pro and o2 Atom.
Anyway, the market place is around $6100 hk dollar.
Do u need any other information?

Wow HKD 6100! At Expansys HK the Qtek 9100 is listed at HKD 5580 that is around HKD 520 difference.

well if the hk local warranty is not a concern, i'll suggest u get 9100 or kjam instead. ( for me they came with much better outlook than dopod )

HK warranty is not really an issue for me. My main concern would be ROM updates I've been to the dopod website and it's all in Chinese, it leaves me wondering how frequent the English OS devices will get their updates.

since dopod is focus on chinese market, do u think it's better to just get qtek or imate ?

yeah. that and the fact that the qtek would be HKD 500 cheaper is really a plus factor

Just placed my order at expansys hk and they did not accept my credit card [maybe because I am from Manila, Philippines] anyway I would like to ask our Hong Kong brothers and sisters... is the Qtek 9100 available in retail outlets? i.e. Fortress or Wan Chai computer center etc? I do not like the dopod 838's look... has anyone spotted a Qtek 9100 in retail stores? Please reply asap so I know if I will get from expansys hk or just buy in a store. Thanks in advance. I will be in hong kong on January 1 thru 6 so any replies before this days will be appreciated! Also store info would be really helpful

bad news for you, there are no retail shop in HK are selling either 9100 or kjam. Btw, why don't send an email to Expansys and ask why they are not accepting your credit card ? ( they seems accept cheque or maybe bank transfer ? )

thanks for the info! so only the dopod 838 is available in HK retail stores then this is really sad news for me. i've been trying to call them the whole afternoon their line is busy anyway the reason they don't accept credit card from the Philippines is because there is widespread credit card fraud here. This was also my problem last year when I got my imate JAM from expansys hk I asked a friend to deposit for me, before they shipped my order, i thought since i was a returning customer they would accept my card but this is not the case apparently. i asked if i could deposit the money on january 2 and get my order on jan 3 but they have not replied yet. they are a bit slow aren't they!

@bnycastro: My post has not to do with your problem at all. Did you have the chance to take a look at the dopod 838 "live"? I promise it looks much better than on any picture. I know this since vodafone is selling exactly the same unit here. I found the pictures awful. But as soon as I had my unit in hands I fell in love... So give it a try...

how much did you get your unit for? I was hoping to get a brand new one and figured it might be cheaper in hkg. if i'm not to get a cheap one in hk i will probably get from gh as well... may i ask where you bought it? not in the 'tiangge' [bazaar] i hope?

Yep, friend of mine recently bought Dopod 838 Eng, ~$5800HKD. Interestingly they had to open THREE 838's before it worked. the first two failed to boot up.
Make sure you try before you buy!

You can find QTEK 9100 at Shenzhen HuaQuangBei at RMB4800.
They already baked Chinese ROM but you can change it to English ROM
after you bought it.

I decide to buy the Prophet.
I am in Canada so i can have it from expansys.ca
3 choices
Dopod 818 Pro GSM/GPRS Pocket PC (HK, English, Black) 924.95$
i-mate JAMin Pocket PC (EN, Unlocked) 889.95$
Qtek S200 Pocket PC (Worldwide English, Unlocked) 844.95$
I know it is just the marketing cie that change but i like to know
1. If there is more like

Frequence of ROM update (now Dopod seems to release more often)
Can we install differente ROM update (Dopod on a s200 or on jamin)
2. Is other supplier in Canada that i could buy from?
Need to be unlocked and usable anywhere in the world.
3. What Accessories should i buy from the start?

First of all, you can install any ROM on any Prophet ( Dopod, Jamin, etc..)
So there is no difference to buy any of Prophet.
Second, to unlock the phone is very easy, you just need to use aWizard.
Third, you need screen protector for sure!
Last, does the web site offer manufactury warrenteey? If, no, there is no difference to buy there or on Ebay. I think you can find better price on ebay for sure. For me, I got my Dopod for around $750 CAD ( from mobile01.com with full warrenteey.) But it's all up to you, if you feel comfertable to buy there.
Anyway, I hope you can enjoy new phone soon.

i would like to buy a HTC prophet derivate...
as far as i understood from reading the wikipage
there is no technical difference btw e.g.
dopod 818pro, qtek S200 and o2 neo...
However, I oberserved a big difference in price for the latter two in germany (around 80-100 €)... dopod is not available here...
So does anyone knows a reason for this ?
I would very much like to stick to the cheapest one (of course),
but maybe there are some minor differences...
I also read that a dopod with english rom boots faster than a Qtek version with german rom ??
However, one could change this just by loading a new ROM, right ??

They are the same apart from the badge painted on them.
Well mostly anyway. They differ only in the software each provider adds to the basic specification. For example O2 will add O2 Plus.
You can indeed flash one prophet ROM with the ROM of the other prophet - but be careful otherwise you will end up with an expensive paper weight.

The price difference relies upon the software bundled and the warranty and tech support you get.
QTek costs less because there's almost lacking tech support, but at least you get twice as much of warranty (2 years vs 1 year) than on other brands.

in fact, the o2 Version is cheaper than the QTek one...!
But thats a different story... Just after i ordered the o2 mobile on monday "night", i noticed that the price was higher on tuesday morning (similar to the Qtek) - maybe i asked too much questions
However, i ordered for the cheaper price; lets see if i will get it...

P.S. in generell i have the feeling that technical support is always a bit disappointing... usually you find more help in these kinds of forums

Hint: O2-prices can vary a *lot* between online shop, O2-stores, independent phone stores and the MediaMarkt stores.
Be sure to check that!

yep, true... But i just got my o2 neo last Friday from an internet store and... the display is heavily damaged... one can use it but it has a huge (20x10 pixs) spot of dead pixls...
So.. having bought it in a slightly more expensive o2 store would be nice now as well... lets see...

I'm a junior, I do my best to answer urs question.
1) both X01HT and Tytn are using the same platform-Hermes. they pretty muc the same. Just X01HT is Japan version that out with their carrier "softbank", so it come with a Japaness rom. Tytn is europe version.
2) u can put tytn rom on x01ht, but need to be unlocked
3) cheaper when the time I bought it.
4) G900.. you won't get the support from XDA, you can see pretty much all the discussion are HTC platform pda. if you want better one you should just go for HTC Kaiser.
5) really don't, it depends on you carrier. check to see if they carrier similar product.http://pdadb.net

what it means Hong kong unlocked? and where u live?
my cariier here it's orange (but not the sam like in UK for example) (utms/gsm...)

I'm in US.. does you carrier offer pda phone? do you need built in GPS? do you need to have a slide out keyboard?

my carrier sells TYTN but for about 1100$ !!!! no way ill buy it here...
