Hi...
i would like to buy a HTC prophet derivate...
as far as i understood from reading the wikipage
there is no technical difference btw e.g.
dopod 818pro, qtek S200 and o2 neo...
However, I oberserved a big difference in price for the latter two in germany (around 80-100 €)... dopod is not available here...
So does anyone knows a reason for this ?
I would very much like to stick to the cheapest one (of course),
but maybe there are some minor differences...
I also read that a dopod with english rom boots faster than a Qtek version with german rom ??
However, one could change this just by loading a new ROM, right ??
thanks for clearing things up...

They are the same apart from the badge painted on them.
Well mostly anyway. They differ only in the software each provider adds to the basic specification. For example O2 will add O2 Plus.
You can indeed flash one prophet ROM with the ROM of the other prophet - but be careful otherwise you will end up with an expensive paper weight.
The price difference relies upon the software bundled and the warranty and tech support you get.
QTek costs less because there's almost lacking tech support, but at least you get twice as much of warranty (2 years vs 1 year) than on other brands.
Hi Rayan...
in fact, the o2 Version is cheaper than the QTek one...!
But thats a different story... Just after i ordered the o2 mobile on monday "night", i noticed that the price was higher on tuesday morning (similar to the Qtek) - maybe i asked too much questions
However, i ordered for the cheaper price; lets see if i will get it...
cu.... Marcel
P.S. in generell i have the feeling that technical support is always a bit disappointing... usually you find more help in these kinds of forums
Hint: O2-prices can vary a *lot* between online shop, O2-stores, independent phone stores and the MediaMarkt stores.
Be sure to check that!
cu
Hi ...
yep, true... But i just got my o2 neo last Friday from an internet store and... the display is heavily damaged... one can use it but it has a huge (20x10 pixs) spot of dead pixls...
So.. having bought it in a slightly more expensive o2 store would be nice now as well... lets see...
cheers.. Marcel

Whats the difference between the I-mate jam and the Qtek s100. I was told they are identical, which iis better, and I heard that the Qtek s100 has no vibration is this true?
I-Mate gives 24H, 7days a week / 365 days a year, support by phone etc.
there is no diffrence between MDA/M500/I-mate/Qtek S100/VPA
(only the simlock from T-mobile, Vodafone and Orange

BE AWARE! Qtek support is NON EXISTANT!
In fact, Expansys offers you Qtek units instead of I-mate ones, because they are short of supplies from I-mate.
Is the lack of support a big deal? I mean won't most people go to a forum first anyway?
I was thinking of getting the qtek myself and removing the logo, as Qtek is a crappy name in all honesty.
Do they still provide prompt firmware upgrades? And you can still flash I-mate roms can you not?
Also in the UK at least the warranty offered on the Qtek is 2 years, as oppose to 1 on the I-mate. According to the sales pitch on some the sites at least.

Well, forums are OK, I'm here too, but, What happens if your device language is not in the forum? And, of course, your 2 year warranty will be NOTHING once you tweak your phone.

I did it too, once I found Qtek support does not exist.

If you are not an i-mate owner (valid IMEI), you can not download legally the new upgrades, so back to the warranty issue.

You are lucky, I bought my Qtek through Expansys one and a half year ago, and haven't found yet where to send it for servicing. And no, don't try internet, it is NOT there. Qtek do not provide service even for its own named phones, when sold in another country.
All said, even my carrier, Telefónica, DO NOT support the devices from HTC It re-brands as TSM. You can NOT get even a simple battery!

Hi!
No need to be so rude.
In fact it should be a misspelling, cause the SPV M500 is the same as Magician, and the SPV C500 is the Smartphone. It is just a letter, M or C, as you can see in http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/3768.html
BTW, their performances are not so different, I have them both now...
If you have a problem with the QTEK device, just contact expansys and they would arrange support for you as they were the place of purchase, if they were unable to help at least they would point you in the right direction.

Hi guys, i am from Canada and wanna buy a ppc phone with BT, wifi, camera and faster CPU. is qtek 2020i a good choice? does it often freeze if many softwares are installed on it? is Expansys a reliable online shop? would you guys please give me some suggestion, thx alot.
...
Hmmm...Why not? 2020i is already a little bit outdated and therefore should be the price not so high. I have 2020(without I-MDA II)since May 2004 and I am still satisfied even is the concept already 2 years old. Yes maybe is it a little bit slow while running too many apps in multitasking, but 400MHz processor is working very well. The stability doesn't deppend on the number of installed applications, but on what kind of applications(unstable,crashing,conflicting,etc.). And what about the stability... Put there a Magneto and enjoy the rock-hard system kernel. The 2003se is also not bad. 2003 is outdated and non-friendly for many new applications(couldn't run on 2003). If you have a chance to buy it from a second hand(the price could be less than 500$!),then buy it!. It is not like a car(that you need be focused for a technicat state and for miles droven as well ). The electronics can working many years...with no problem. The software can be upgraded. My suggestion: TAKE THAT.

Any updated models that I am un-aware of?
think Magician is newer but it's of cause for a different market
if i were to buy i would wait for Universal
Since the I-mate K-JAM and QTek 9100 are "identical" would a QTek owner be able to use an I-mate ROM? If so, why are people saying "Oh I'll pay the extra £50 for a K-JAM just for the support from I-mate" when people who own QTeks can latch on to such support (i.e. updated ROMs) for free. Sure, it may change all the software branding from QTek to I-mate, but its a small price to pay.
Just a thought.
I paid the extra $$ for 2 reasons.
1.) The K-Jam is available sooner
2.) I-Mate does support on their devices here in the US and Qtek doesn't.
So basically I am paying a premium to have it earlier and if there is a problem with the device I want a place here in the states where I can send it for repair.
Didnt really answer my question, but thanks ;p
I believe (at least in the UK) the store is responsible for coordinating repairs (no matter what they try and convince you!).

you cannot log into imate download area unless you own an imate, also who is going to risk updating a rom from a different brand?
i know i wouldn't
I picked the K-Jam for a couple of reasons:
1. Earliest availiability of the product
2. I could find the official web site and it was in English
3. The service center for them here in the states is within walking distance of where I work.
I don't have any problem with the Idea of installing ROMS from other vendors on my device, but then I'm fairly brave when it comes to messing around with them

I finally ordered my qtek 9000 from MMB for 950 USD including shipping
The downpoint....i live in India, and will have to wait for my sister to get here from USA...which would take me another 20 days of waiting to do
I was wondering if someone here who has a qtek 9000 tell me if its anything different at all, in terms of the rom provided....the memory it consumes on both program and storage etc.
Also, any info on how the build quality is on the outside when compared to a jj or an exec?
thanks!
<waits patiently>

JasJar
I bought the Jasjar for Rs.48,000/=. Same as QTEk with better ROm support and better resale value in India.
As far as im aware, all of the Universals are the same cosmetically, apart from colour and brandings.
Hi Hermes Owners!
--
Just wanted to know what variants of the Hermes are available in HKG. I'm on my way to HKG in 2 weeks and am looking to purchase a second PocketPC Phone.
--
I really fancy the HTC TyTn or dopod CHT 9000 but I like the HTC TyTn more because the CHT 9000 has Chinese characters on the thumb board which is a bit confusing if I'm going to use the device in English.
--
The dopod 838 pro is nice and all, but I like the look of the TyTn more.
--
So this is the question... are the TyTn and/or CHT 9000 available anywhere in HKG? If yes where can I get it and how much would it be? If they are not available is the 838pro already available, how much is it going for? Of course I'm asking about English OS devices please. Thanks in advanced for any info.

Regards from Manila
Pards,
Dopod838Pro, CHT9000 and O2 Trion are available in HK. Only the first is the official one (with local warranty) and widespread. All of them are available in English.
I like the O2 trion design, but I dumped mine since it has alignmnet issue and bought Dopod instead, whihc has the almost same design and with local warranty since I live in HK. But the Trion is cheaper...I dont like the HTC and CHT 9000 design...
Bummer no HTC TyTn... so you would suggest the 838pro over the other variants cause it has warranty. However I live in Manila so the Hong Kong warranty wouldn't really do me any good do you think I should wait for the 838pro to get to Manila it would probably take ages and be much too overpriced... We don't even have the 838 here yet officially [they are a lot in the tiangges of V-Mall, I even saw Cingular branded ones but brand new ones are so few]. How much did you get the 838pro there in Hong Kong?
I got the O2 a month ago for 5.2K and the dopod is now 6.1K (on 24 months installment) with 1GB uSD.
I heard that dopod838pro will be released in Manila this month..
Well I don't think they'd accept int'l cards for those installment deals [tried to purchase a notebook on installment last January at FORTRESS and I was told they don't accept int'l credit cards] so I'd have to pay cash I guess. Hmmm 6K for the Hermes... is it AKU3.0 already? I have AKU3.0 [by Ivan] on my Exec and am loving it... I just need a spare phone really but the HTC s620 still hasn't been announced and SAMSUNGs SGH-i607 is slated for an end of the year [possibly early next year release] so I was thinking why not get the Hermes first but 6K HKD is kinda steep for a spare phone, I tried using a v3i as a spare phone but missed the full sync that outlook and windows mobile does... if the 838pro will be out in Manila this month then I might see it here before I go to HKG on the 20th... hopefully they price it competitively. I hear the CHT 9000 is around 36,000 PhP in Taiwan but then again the chinese strokes on the keyboard are very confusing... oh my now I don't know if I should wait for the HTC s620, Samsung SGH-i607 or just get the Dopod 838pro. Also there has still been no additional leaks about the Universal successor [HTC Omni] which was mentioned a few weeks back, I was hoping to see even mock ups or planned specs atleast about that... anyway sectorlord thanks for all the great info really appreciate it.
I just saw the MDA T-Mobile Variants in Mongkok... sells for 4.8K ..
Wow, looks so sexy and the front keys layout and shape is the BEST of all the variants..
