Since the I-mate K-JAM and QTek 9100 are "identical" would a QTek owner be able to use an I-mate ROM? If so, why are people saying "Oh I'll pay the extra £50 for a K-JAM just for the support from I-mate" when people who own QTeks can latch on to such support (i.e. updated ROMs) for free. Sure, it may change all the software branding from QTek to I-mate, but its a small price to pay.
Just a thought.
I paid the extra $$ for 2 reasons.
1.) The K-Jam is available sooner
2.) I-Mate does support on their devices here in the US and Qtek doesn't.
So basically I am paying a premium to have it earlier and if there is a problem with the device I want a place here in the states where I can send it for repair.
Didnt really answer my question, but thanks ;p
I believe (at least in the UK) the store is responsible for coordinating repairs (no matter what they try and convince you!).

you cannot log into imate download area unless you own an imate, also who is going to risk updating a rom from a different brand?
i know i wouldn't
I picked the K-Jam for a couple of reasons:
1. Earliest availiability of the product
2. I could find the official web site and it was in English
3. The service center for them here in the states is within walking distance of where I work.
I don't have any problem with the Idea of installing ROMS from other vendors on my device, but then I'm fairly brave when it comes to messing around with them

Hey all.
recently got my XDA II mini and while trying to register at clubimate i get an error saying my IMEI is wrong.
clubimate supprt says i need to check with distributor (friend bought it in Thailand while on a trip before the tzunami so its not possible).
did anyone else came across this problem?
what can i do?
Thanks ahead...
I think that they mean that for support you need to go back to your distributor or sales outlet. The reason why your IMEI is not accepted is probably because it's an XDA Mini IMEI, and not an i-Mate JAM IMEI. DO not forget that the IMEI identifies the device al the way down to the company that sells them, in your case O2 (XDA), in other cases T-Mobile (MDA Compact) or Qtek (100s). They just limit access to iMate support to real iMate devices.
To be honest, I am not suprised, and actually I don't disagree with their policy. On clubimate they support devices that they have sold, not devices that have been sold by other companies. When I still had my MDA compact, I could not register at Club Imate either, but when I bought a real JAM, I could.
i actually do have an XDA2Mini.. not an imate device.
therefor, where can i get support? (updates/patch/whatever)
Thanks ahead...
http://myxda.com
is O2 Asia Support Site for patches etc.
Whats the difference between the I-mate jam and the Qtek s100. I was told they are identical, which iis better, and I heard that the Qtek s100 has no vibration is this true?
I-Mate gives 24H, 7days a week / 365 days a year, support by phone etc.
there is no diffrence between MDA/M500/I-mate/Qtek S100/VPA
(only the simlock from T-mobile, Vodafone and Orange

BE AWARE! Qtek support is NON EXISTANT!
In fact, Expansys offers you Qtek units instead of I-mate ones, because they are short of supplies from I-mate.
Is the lack of support a big deal? I mean won't most people go to a forum first anyway?
I was thinking of getting the qtek myself and removing the logo, as Qtek is a crappy name in all honesty.
Do they still provide prompt firmware upgrades? And you can still flash I-mate roms can you not?
Also in the UK at least the warranty offered on the Qtek is 2 years, as oppose to 1 on the I-mate. According to the sales pitch on some the sites at least.

Well, forums are OK, I'm here too, but, What happens if your device language is not in the forum? And, of course, your 2 year warranty will be NOTHING once you tweak your phone.

If you are not an i-mate owner (valid IMEI), you can not download legally the new upgrades, so back to the warranty issue.

You are lucky, I bought my Qtek through Expansys one and a half year ago, and haven't found yet where to send it for servicing. And no, don't try internet, it is NOT there. Qtek do not provide service even for its own named phones, when sold in another country.
All said, even my carrier, Telefónica, DO NOT support the devices from HTC It re-brands as TSM. You can NOT get even a simple battery!

Hi!
No need to be so rude.
In fact it should be a misspelling, cause the SPV M500 is the same as Magician, and the SPV C500 is the Smartphone. It is just a letter, M or C, as you can see in http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/3768.html
BTW, their performances are not so different, I have them both now...
If you have a problem with the QTEK device, just contact expansys and they would arrange support for you as they were the place of purchase, if they were unable to help at least they would point you in the right direction.

I live in Hong Kong. From my estimate, the O2 will sell in Hong Kong in December 2005. I want to get the Universal to be first in Hong Kong. Do I buy the Universal from expansys.com or wait the offical selling in Hong Kong?
If you want to be the first you don't have much choice but to get it from somewhere else other than O2!
I'm in the same boat as you are... No warranty and ugly looking Jasjar But on the other hand, the wait is killing me too....
XDA EXEC
Hi in answer to your question, i would only consider the O2 XDA EXEC,i have seen both devices, the XDA EXEC looks way better than the Imate Jasjar.
In addition the XDA EXEC will be tested more...O2 have better support + the O2 active service installed in the phone really inhances the device.
At the end of the day i Know its hard to wait...but i promise you will not be dissapointed this device really sets new standards.
O2 vs JasJar
Disagree with you on some points, firstly, o2 Active is a complete waste of time, been on 02 3years since xda 1 and always dumped it. For Guarantee, they're both about the same, 1 year, so no benefits there. I have also owned an Imate and their customer support was fine, no worse or better then o2. Rom Upgrades are much faster at imate, less bureauracy, and that is a big plus. And if you want to, you can always put an o2 rom later.
Jasjar is a terrible name, and will be more expensive than o2, always. They cannot subsidize like o2 can, not a big difference, so waitin 3-6 weeks you'll get it cheaper for sure.

Mark,
You can preorder Qtek from expansys. The price a bit cheaper.
You can check here.

I bet I can guess who you work for , but I must say the exec is much easier on the eyes.
Not sure
I think they really are 100% the same, unless you really are a tosser and care about device color...
Warranty 1 year
Rom: within a month, you'll put whatever you want in, no big deal active
o2 Active, Useless (Unless someone wants to convince me otherwise)
Price: 100% o2 will be cheaper, it always is. I will always buy these under contract, they are cheaper + you get minutes which I can throw away.
Buying O2
Buying O2 guarantees you a few things:
1) O2 active will be available, and if installed (which at least is optional on the exec without needing silly corporate codes) it will make your device crash much more than devices that dont have it. I have no confidence that O2 will sort out the O2 active issues that exist on the XDA IIs
2) You will wait *eons* for firmware updates. O2 are still shipping devices with BT build 3500, rom 1.31.00, radio: 1.06. They are now about 6 versions behind and there is no news of whether there will *ever* be an official update to the latest and greatest. For the record, BT3900, rom 1.41, and radio 1.12 are the latest.
3) You will get a cheaper device than if you bought it elsewhere.
So.... if you buy O2 then be prepaired to hack around with it, cook your own roms, and rely on timely updates from *other* vendors (which will need to be hacked for the O2 XDA) to fix the bugs on your exec.
O2 do not aknowledge or fix bugs on their devices period.
Nigel
I agree 100%
Exec will be considerably cheaper, but you'll get screwed on support. Even more true for T-Mobile, they are the most agressive guys, u wiull save a lot if you are patient.
For example I bought 13 T-mobile MDA's for 235GBP (purchase price + contract), and flipped on ebay for 320GBP. Now I have cancelled my contract and am getting 446GBP back, paying for JasJar....
So, buying through an agressive operator is always cheaper because they factor in that you will be spending more then you're contract....guess I didn't
Getting it from O2 doesn't offer much advantages; All O2 settings can be obtained from their site or the net; O2 active is useless, I always get rid of it in all my O2 pocket pcs; waste of memory. I bought the jamjar on an o2 contract costing 320GBP, paying 25GBP per month for 100min and 100text which works out to 620GBP. I don't think waiting for the exec itself will give a more significant discount. 320 quid for the device sounds fair enough considering it costs over 600GBP sim free at the moment; some shops sell it at 700GBP!
Did the same
Paid 660 GBP for 250 minutes on o2 and the phone for one year. Not bad? (I already have 500 minutes from o2 for 15GBP per month, but I figured can keep the 250 minutes for guests)
It is pre-order only.
1. Expansys is on pre-order stage.
2. Expansys cannot provide the handset warranty.
3. The price is about 700GBP
I am only wait for O2 Exec.

What is the price of the O2 Exec from O2 UK for handset only(Sim free)? Who can help me to reply this post?
Thanks!!!!!!
Are you really gonna wait for the O2 XDA Exec in Hong Kong?
I have just been told that Universal will not appear in Hong Kong under O2 brand - the distributor will introduce it as Dopod 900.
Wait and see - October 2005.

Making him care about the colour on a device that costs £600+gbp makes him a tosser?Would you like a **** brown with pink spots coloured ferrari?
Personally I would wait for the Exec.
I like the O2 colors better than the grey MDA ones - this is just and aesthetic issue. Functional-wise I think you should wait because there are problems with apps that are not compatible yet with WM5, therefore you might not be able to use all the apps which you have purchased (or downloaded as freeware) to run on your device,so your gaming/productivity/communication/entertainment might be impaired
1. Are you sure the O2 Exec will not release in HK?
2. After to read some posts, I want to wait O2 Exec released in Hong Kong rather than to buy imate/MDA Pro from overseas/Internet(expansys or www.pocketpc.com.hk).

There's one problem with the O2 exec, at least in the UK - O2! They're rubbish in every sense. I used to be a customer of theirs and I had to phone them EVERY MONTH when they double billed me. They never sorted this out despite my repeated atempts and they're repeated promises. You'll also spend 15 minutes on hold when you call them. Their customer service is completly ineefctual and, as mentioned elsewhere, bug fixes and rom updates are almost non-existant. I'm told they also have poorer 3G coverage in the UK than the likes of Voda.
I bought a JasJar (and paid prolly about £70 more than if I had bought an Exec on O2) soley becuase it meant i didn't have to use O2!
But I agree the exec looks nicer. There is also some concern over the JasJar not having a keybaord backlight - I'll be able to confirm or deny in a couple of days when my order arrives.
www.importgsm.com
Anyone use these guys? I am trying to decide which version o2, imate, qtek, or t-mobile to buy of this phone. so far it seems as though imate would offer the best warranty. i take it that is why people buy from them. qtek seems to be junk for warranty service (please correct me if i am wrong). t-mobile does not seem to have an english rom - causes me work.
back a few years ago i got an XDA II from o2 to get a cheaper deal than existed on the i-mate version. never had any problems and i think i sold it at a markup from what i got it from direct from britain. now i'm back to purchase a new htc device and am wondering: what more do you get for buying from i-mate really???
hi guys regarding Importgsm they were pretty good on expiditing my order which was a tmobile mda with a qtek rom wwe, which they actually got of this website.
I bought mine for 589 + shiping. they offered one year warranty directly thru them
Hi...
i would like to buy a HTC prophet derivate...
as far as i understood from reading the wikipage
there is no technical difference btw e.g.
dopod 818pro, qtek S200 and o2 neo...
However, I oberserved a big difference in price for the latter two in germany (around 80-100 €)... dopod is not available here...
So does anyone knows a reason for this ?
I would very much like to stick to the cheapest one (of course),
but maybe there are some minor differences...
I also read that a dopod with english rom boots faster than a Qtek version with german rom ??
However, one could change this just by loading a new ROM, right ??
thanks for clearing things up...

They are the same apart from the badge painted on them.
Well mostly anyway. They differ only in the software each provider adds to the basic specification. For example O2 will add O2 Plus.
You can indeed flash one prophet ROM with the ROM of the other prophet - but be careful otherwise you will end up with an expensive paper weight.
The price difference relies upon the software bundled and the warranty and tech support you get.
QTek costs less because there's almost lacking tech support, but at least you get twice as much of warranty (2 years vs 1 year) than on other brands.
Hi Rayan...
in fact, the o2 Version is cheaper than the QTek one...!
But thats a different story... Just after i ordered the o2 mobile on monday "night", i noticed that the price was higher on tuesday morning (similar to the Qtek) - maybe i asked too much questions
However, i ordered for the cheaper price; lets see if i will get it...
cu.... Marcel
P.S. in generell i have the feeling that technical support is always a bit disappointing... usually you find more help in these kinds of forums
Hint: O2-prices can vary a *lot* between online shop, O2-stores, independent phone stores and the MediaMarkt stores.
Be sure to check that!
cu
Hi ...
yep, true... But i just got my o2 neo last Friday from an internet store and... the display is heavily damaged... one can use it but it has a huge (20x10 pixs) spot of dead pixls...
So.. having bought it in a slightly more expensive o2 store would be nice now as well... lets see...
cheers.. Marcel
