Please Help - calling problems - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi everybody,
I have an 02 xda mini s and I cannot make or receive any phone calls. I was given it by a friend almost brand new. I put a Vodafone sim in it and for the first few weeks it worked fine and I could make and recieve phone calls no problems. All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, I couldn't do either. I can send and receive text messages fine however. One other thing to add is when trying to make a phone call, it goes to ring out as usual, but at the point of when a phone would normally ring it cuts out and you can hear 3 very faint tinny sounding beeps. It is very irritating as it is excellent at everything else but I just cannot use it as a phone
I would be very, very grateful to anyone that could help.
P.S I have noticed on several forums there have been similar question with no responses, perhaps this is something quite rare or unheard of.

It could either be a hardware or a software problem. Have you tried backing everything up and doing a hardreset and seeing if that solves the problem?

Hi, yes I have done several hard resets. I have tried different sims from different companies to no affect. However once in a blue moon and by pure chance it works again and I can make phone calls but it doesn't last long.

It sounds like a hardware problem then, I'm not familiar with the Wizard's internals, but it could be either a loose connection on the motherboard or just a component dying. If it's either of those things, someone on these boards might be able to sell you a replacement, but you'll have to take the thing apart, which most likely means ending up with more screws then you started with.

Cheers for that, I doubt i'll take it apart though it will end up with more than a few screws left over if I do it, I am am danger when it comes to electrics. Even if I did I wouldn't know what to look for. I'll see if I kind find someone more electrical minded than me to do.
Ta.

Alright, good luck. From your last goodbye, I'm just going to assume you're from the UK, you could try taking it to an 02 store and seeing if they can do anything to help you. You're not a customer of theirs, so they will most likely tell you to go away, but it is worth a shot.

Yeah I am from the U.K. I could take it to them no probs, probably won't be cheap though. If needs be I could always stick and 02 chip in there or find someone with a contract o2 chip.
If needs be there must be a phone repair shop nearby, London is a pretty big place .

My luck has been mixed with phone repair shops, but I've only been one or two times to one of the mall kiosk style ones. If it turns out getting it replaced is a no go, I'd suggest selling your current Wizard on ebay, and then turning around and buying a fully functioning unlocked one.

Yeah its an idea. Cheers Matey.

I have almost exactly the same problem, 3 faint beeps when trying to make a call.
The phone I have is a T-mobile MDA Compact that has been network unlocked.
The problem is that it is unable to make or receive normal calls. The symptoms vary across networks, with vodafone being the most functional. The symptoms are as follows.
----
Tesco Mobile: - no service.
----
T-Mobile: Connects to network and shows a signal, but no call functions work.
----
vodafone: Connects to network, shows a signal, can send and receive text messages, can make 999 calls.
Can't make or receive normal calls:
When trying to dial out the display goes from "dialing" to "call ended" and three quiet beeps can be heard, the dialed phone never rings.
If called from BT landline the caller simply hears "Error" and callers from other mobile phones hear a variety of different tones (engaged, beeps etc, varies with different phones)
If the phone is switched off, the callers get the usual "the phone you are calling is not available" message.
------
The phone has a CheckMend certificate to show that it is not lost or stolen, and T-Mobile have confirmed that the IMEI is not barred on their network.
While attempting to fix this:
I have reflashed the phone with several ROMs, run the unlocker several times and updated the radio from 1.12 to 1.13, but the original problem remains unchanged.
I have e-mailed HTC support with my symptoms but as yet have received no reply.

Big Big Big F*****g Problem
Hi, can anybody help me. I have f....d my XDA mini s, i need a WM6 rom XM6r3 on SD card, i cant acces my ACTIVE SYNC. Pls send me a link with these ROM.

Could you elaborate on what the issue is a bit more? I believe the issue is most likely that you have "ADvanced Network Functionality" checked in USB-PC settings under connections. Try unchecking that and seeing if you can then connect.

Busted Phone Rom?

Hey all, so I was on a business conference call this morning and immediately after the call I went to check my Call History, which had plenty of records in it last night, and there was no history. Furthermore, I lost the ability to make calls. I figured "oh it's just another stupid M$ bug... why don't I reboot." Well, bad idea. After rebooting, the phone now states it has No Service; however, Media Net is miraculously still connected. To test this anomaly, I loaded up IE and navigated to google.com. To my surprise, the page loaded! Nonetheless, I cannot load the phone app either manually or even by pressing the send button. I'm not receiving any texts or phone calls.
Is this a common problem? Could something have shorted out? Is my radio rom simply busted? Luckily, I'm a good boy and I synchronize my phone with my Nix box frequently so I have everything backed up. I just need to get my phone back to normal!
I'm running the newest ROM available from HTC America for AT&T. Here's what the screen says at boot time:
M 05 R 1.40.30.00
S 04 G 32.73.7020.16H
B 06 D 2.15
When the phone is booting, the screen that lists the roms looks like it always has. It doesn't say "No GSM" like some people have had on this forum.
I've rebooted the damn thing so many times that I learned something new today. WM5 has a Safe Mode... I'll be damned!!! It asked me if I wanted to reboot in Safe Mode at one point and I figured "why not? it has helped me fix so many Windows problems on PCs, surely it will be the answer to my problems on this phone right?!" Guess again, nothing different other than no Today plug-ins or autorun programs. I'm at a loss of ideas with this.
One thing you all should know is that I've taken the phone apart multiple times to replace my cracked screens (yes my screen has cracked more than once... I swear it's a design flaw in the phone). I even took it apart and assembled it perfectly this morning after I started experiencing the problems . That didn't help... but the good news is everything is intact hardware wise with the phone
I GREATLY appreciate any help. I've used this forum frequently to get tips and tricks on tricking my AT&T 8525 out. You guys are great. Thanks in advance!
So I just noticed something new. If my number is being dialed, the phone actually comes out of sleep mode and lights up but never rings or even shows a call is coming in. Of course I cannot pickup the call. This is VERY weird behavior. I'm getting quite desperate and there have been no posts so I'm getting ready to just reflash this phone. Any ideas, suggestions, comments, etc?!?!?!
Well, ended up just loading up a new rom (WM6) from AT&T/HTC and lost all of my customizations but the phone works well now. Thanks to all those who viewed this thread and THOUGHT about helping

Moaning Groaning Phoning

Hi Folks,
I was unlucky/ lucky enough to smash my Hermes in to bits the other day.
Insurance stumped up the cost of a spanking new Vario II from the T-Mobile shop the same afternoon.
It came back with the original ROM 1.21.110.3, Radio 1.16.00.00.
I have a problem (Duh! otherwise I wouldn't be posting)....
Every time I receive an incoming call when I'm on the phone, I press answer to pick it up, (thereby putting Caller 1 on hold normally), Caller 1 goes on hold, and phone freezes, Kupput!
Bizarre huh!
2nd time round, I thought, I'd ignore the call, press the button, some bloody thing!
Now I have to let the call ring off to answer phone if I'm on the other line.
I also seem to have to reboot the old phone rather a lot (3 times a day).
Was this a dodgy ROM, or do you think it's hardware related?
The only reason I'm reluctant to upgrade the ROM is that if it's hardware I can just take it back to the shop.
Many thanks in advance,
Andy
Your title sounds like a bad porno
Anyways, you can try a new ROM and if it turns out to be hardware, you can downgrade to the stock ROM/radio.
I think its the ROM as mines still stock rom and i have Noticed that, some times it works but most of the time it hangs, when i do switch to the other incoming call it seems to cut the other person off and not hold them, but that could be me doing it wrong lol
normally i just leave the other incoming call "ringing" then they can leave a voice message and i can ring them back, would rather do that than lose both call's
maybe someone with a non stock rom could help out with this one and post if it does the same on theirs or not
If I were you I would take it back to the shop and get it exchanged now. If its a hardware problem you are not likely to be unlucky enough to get 2 phones with the same hardware problem. This way you are reasonbly safe.
If you find that the second phone also has the same issue you can then install a different rom and see how you go. Easier to do it this way than to go through the pain of reversing roms just to send the kit back.
What you haven't said is whether this is a WM5 or WM6. If WM5 I had hellish problems with my Tytn when I first got it with freezing problems, etc. I was on the brink of getting a sledgehammer out and smashing it to bits when I discovered this website. Since I moved to WM6, upgraded my radio, and used all the various hints and tips e.g. the one around activesync, life has been much easier.
Hope you get it sorted.

Can anyone clarify what a hard reset really does?

OK, I know that may look like a dumb question (and maybe it is!!!)
I have just unlocked my Vario 2 using the "Pof" method with both Sim and SuperCID.
Problem is, my phone needs to be sent back (long story - but basically I am getting a replacement Vario 3). Now obviously I am concerned they will tell me "sorry youve been playing with your phone sonny - its no longer under warrenty", so need to get it back to factory settings if I can.
I appreciate a hard reset will basically wipe any files I have, contacts and settings etc, but will this remove the unlocks that have been done? ie It really does go back to factory settings - or do these unlocks stay on there?
I have been searching the forum and WIKI, but not found the solution. I did think I would need to install a T-Mobile Rom - but all I could find was a hungarian version - which whilst in English, would probably look worse than as I currently have it!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT:
For the record, if it makes any difference:
ROM Version 1.21.110.3
Rom Date 06/19/06
Radio version 1.16.00.00
Herm300 IPL-1.01
SPL 1.40.0lipro
a hard reset simply formats the internal drive on the phone and resets it to the factory settings.
generally t mobile wont bother looking at things like that, i unlocked my vario, dropped it, it smashed, they just replaced it after trying to repair it.
A few people have flashed new roms and bricked it, sent it back, tmobile are none the wiser, they are probably unaware people to this to their handsets!
we are all just stupid customers as far as they are concerned!
personally i wouldnt worry about it!

OK thanks for that. So I assume a hard reset will not over write anything regarding the bootloader radio change and unlocks? I appreciated that it resets the OS - hence the question.
I agree that they probably wouldnt in most cases look into the phone and check, but they have put a note on my account about "charging if not found faulty".
The problem I have been getting is missing calls - even if I am in a strong signal area. I actually work at Waterloo Railway station - and I would doubt too many places would get a better signal! An incoming call is made, my phone doesnt ring and the caller gets a single ring, then nothing. From what I can now gather, this may be to do with the cell shaking hands but not really being connected. ie the phone/cell are duping each other. This appears to be a 3G issue (so is probably likely to still be there on exchange.) Now the silly thing I have noticed; the phone seemed fine until I got web'n'walk put back on and the problem happens once I have been online. Strangely at the moment, I dont think the problem is persisiting (ie Im not aware of missing calls - though of course thats difficult to quantify unless someone tells me!)
Anyway - I have a feeling they will be looking more into this phone as this replacement will be my 5th! (The previous had similar problems with calls being made or incoming that would just fall over before being answered and the signal being completely lost when it was happening. Slightly different this time - but sound related!)
So will there be a way to put it back to being locked and the correct bootloader etc being shown?
Many thanks
I had the same problem with rejected and dropped calls, tmobile couldnt care less from what i learned or are unaware of the problem! try this
1. lock the phone to gsm only (this solved it pretty much straight away)
2) remove the voicemail from your account
3) If you are using gprs data, you will rarely get a phone call through, and by using it i mean looking at web pages or having programs update in the background.
Downgrading the bootloader is way above my head so i wouldnt like to advise.
As regard to relocking the phone to the network, i dont think thats possible, in any event, why would they check the simlock if the phone is having problems with calls!
If its your fifth handset, you should be looking at changing the model at least because thats ridiculous.
It sounds like a network issue rather than a handset problem!

Yeh, the problems on this phone didnt start until I began using the net again. They did suggest switching off 3G, but since I bought the phone specifically on the promise of a fast connection and HSPDA speeds, that really is an unacceptable solution! I appreciate that signal varies etc - but if a central location where I work isnt good enough, then T-Mobile really shouldnt be advertising themselves as a 3G network!
As it happens, voicemail was switched off on the account. It got put back on again a week ago - and sods law - things now seem to be working, though internet speeds are still very slow.

Dunno really. Its just a concern they will and then use it to wriggle out of an exchange!

When I phoned, I was just looking to get a repair, but it was them that offered a Vario 3 which I accepted. It was agreed for them to be sending the set to me (last Thursday) but all that arrived was a grey bag to send my old one back. I spoke with them at great length again last night and suggested a straight courier swap so I wasn't without a phone. They went through to their repair department, who have now flatly refused the phone change - despite it being agreed already!
Anyway I spoke to another manager who went through my "book" of notes and quoted the sale of goods act and merchandisable quality thing and he has agreed they really have to address this. He is phoning me back today and he did come across as helpful and reasonable. (The second one in 2 weeks - must be a record!!!)
I do agree though, that this issue is likely to be the network and not the phone. I would really love to use O2 as at work and home I get 100% coverage and never had any problems at all - but I ain't paying their data rates! Maybe 3 will be ok - but again, when I had them a few years back, at home they were dire so never bothered again. But one thing is pretty certain, in 5 months time, T-Mobile will be history unless they make amends in a big way and these problems become non existant.
Thanks for your help..... its appreciated.

Sim card issues?

Hi,
Was wondering if anyone had any ideas what might be going on. I have an orange spv m700 unlocked, and re-radioed to make GPRS work on vodafone payg sim.
The phone works fine 90% of the time, but occasionally, I'll miss calls when I knew I was in an area with reception. I then get the message off vodafone call minder saying I missed a call, sometimes immediately. Sometimes I've even had people next to me ring, and not got through even though I had reception - though most of the time it works, so its hard to diagnose.
I was beginning to suspect that it might be something wrong with the sim, as it used to happen with my old phone (same sim), so I rang vodafone to get some help but they said they couldnt find my phone and so couldnt help me.
Has anyone any ideas? Do I need a sim update? How can I get one?
Thanks
(incidentally, I cant get mms working (using settings off this forum) but arent particularly bothered, I just thought it might be related)
Sorry, no SIM card issues. I can assure you that because mine has same issues, asked my phone provider for a duplicated SIM, and with the new one, had exactly the same bug.
Right now, my S300 is in Htc hands, being serviced, no clue if it's gonna be fix, replaced or worse, being sent right back to my hands as was sent to them, because that has happened once already to me. Bought this PDA on 3/17 and it has already been sent to Htc twice, I only had it like 2 days in my hands. First time they did notthing, hope it doesn't happen again, and I'll get it back to me fixed, or I'll throw the PDA down the window and never buy any Htc device again.
Good luck mate, and if someone have some useful info on this, please share,as I would like to know the fate of my S300.
Good I didn't SuperCID it out of the box, and waited to check everything was OK.

Samsung´s bad customer service

hey all,
i am from Austria, bought the Nexus S from intlo.com in LA in the states.
The phone was fine for 4 weeks, after that a bad squeezy noise starts when i am doing phone calls or when i receive phone calls.
No reset, no battery out, no SIM-card change did help.
Same bad sound when i use the earphones, so it seems like it is a real hardware issue.
Contact intlo.com, they told me to contact Samsung US direct.
I did that but Samsung told me that when the phone is out of the US they do not support customer service although i am having a US name and address where they can send it after repair or replace. They denied the support coz i was calling from an austrian phone number.
Now i contacted intlo.com again, they are very friendly and doing the pickup, repair and send back service for 230 US.
For all they are same curious like me using a new phone, importing from a different country - hands away from action like that. As long as you don´t need support it is fine!!!
An expensive experience i made now, i like the style and functions of the phone thats the only reason why i am doing the try with the repair service of intlo.com
But f... Samsung for their non support.
The funny thing, Samsung Europe is not supporting as well coz the phone is still not available here.
I wanted to give you all my experience with that my issues around that stuff.
best
is that the only bug that in the phone that is annoying you?
i think i have the same noise during some of the calls.
i don't think it is a hardware issue, if not i'll be getting it way more constantly
it only happens when i use SetCPU
yes: Samsunk customer support is really horrible, i've been more than a month without a phone, they lost it, and still having trouble finding me a replacement, i'm calling every day to get to the bottom of this

Hey,
well the problem i had from the beginning was that the speaker-volume, always a noise when the volume was too high. I could only reduce the volume to switch it to the highest point and then back to the lowest.
The bad noise starts 5 days ago, impossible to do many phone calls a day with this noise, same like you using the phone close to a radio.
I did a complete reset to factory-version 2.3.1, no apps installed nothing but still the same issue so it looks like a hardware issue.
I am looking forward that intlo.com is organizing a replacement for this phone now.
They're just being safe. Anyone can claim to have a U.S. address and call from another country. Should have just used Google Voice and called back if it's all because of the number you were calling from.
I mean, when you give them a Name, address, phone, email whatever and they don´t have any costs with that there is no reason for that reaction.
To tell me that the phone is losing the warranty coz it is out of the US is the biggest bull**** i have ever heared.
Which mobile phone stays in the country where you bought it all the time, well then it is not a mobile phone.
This service is a shame for an international company. Let´s f... the customer, thats their target, sad but true.
