Hi to all masters,
I've just bought an O2 Xda Exec from ebay. I'm so happy that day when the device was delivered to me as this is my frist VGA screen pda. As i opened the box, i found out that the USB cable was missing, so i emailed the seller and he promised to send me the USB cable soon. Having no USB cable, I borrowed an USB 2.0 cable from my friend.
When unboxed, the battery was inserted into the device so i thought it can be turned on but i realised that the device doesnt turn on at all. Thinking that this might be caused by the drained battery, i pluged in the charger and the RIGHT LED illumates in RED instead (Amber indicates charging). I waited for 5 hours and tried to turn it on again but the problem is still there.
I'm thinking that the charger might be a problem so this time I used the USB cable and plug into the device. Surprisingly, the RIGHT LED now turn Amber and was able to turn on but showing critical battery level at 2%.
However, after a few minutes, the Amber light went off and the device stop charging. Then I turn off the power button and the Amber lights appear again. I realised that I can only charge the device by using the USB cable and that the device will be charged when it is turned off. Here is the summary of my device problem:
1) The device will not charge instead the battery will be drained when using the charger.
2) When using USB cable the device will ONLY charge when it is turned off.
3) When turn on the device and connect to the PC, the PC does not detect the deivce and the charging went off.
Ok, somehow i can find a way to charge it but the big problem now is i cant even get it sync to my PC.
When i turn on the device and connect it to my PC, there was no respond. I could only get the PC the detect the device in a split of a second when my device reboot at the beginning but it was detected as unknown device then it will dissapear.
My pc couldnt detect my O2! I've tried a few ways stated in this forum which are:
1) Hard reset device
2) Reinstall Active Sync
3) Using the software FixASRunAt.exe
4) Changing USB to IR and click Start and Stop
All these methods could not solve my device issue. Now I'm not sure if its the software problem or the hardware problem.
This is a weird problem for a pocket pc and I felt like I'm being cheated that i bought a faulty O2 Xda Exec. If there is someone who experienced this problem and know how to solve this problem please please please please help me. I really like this O2 Xda Exec and i wish it can be function as normal. Thanks.

Have had the XDA for nearly 2 weeks now and still getting the hang of all it's features.
I did an initial charge overnight and have since kept it topped up using the PC/USB cable.
As a small security precaution I've got the startup pin number activated so when syncing to PC or resetting the XDA I key in the pin.
This morning when I got to work I just plugged the XDA into the PC USB but got called away to a meeting. When I came back the PC said I had a new usb device and the device had failed, I then noticed the battery level had dropped to 0% (phone on/bluetooth on).
For whatever reason the usb was plugged in but was not charging.
Moral of the story is watch that activesync pops up so you now you have a good connection and that the unit is charging.
Steve
I don't think that all USB sockets are capable of charging the Exec if the screen is on. I.e. they can't provide enough amps to power the Exec and charge the battery.
It helps to reduce the screen brightness if charging is important.
I've taken to using only the mains charger for charging (which never has the same problem) and doing ActiveSync over Bluetooth. I keep the USB lead with me for emergencies only.
I tend to charge it with the screen towards the keybaord and the lid down so the screen is off.
Well it has charged to 100% now, perhaps I'll check the time it takes next time when I leave the phone & bluetooth on (had to turn them off at 0%)!
But to be fair I did not need to reset at all so good old XDA.
Steve
if you press and hold the power button will turn off the backlight, then when your charged press again and hold to turn the backlight back on. should reduce the consumption
If the right hand light goes orange then green when charged, it should be charging.
I advocate the use of a powered USB hub in between your Universal and the PC (ie: don't connect directly to the PC). Plenty of juice available then for charging.
Hi Guys
I have a problem with my TyTN at the moment.
My device is not charging.
Yesterday i put it in my Docking Station and wait a little time.
But Now the Tynt isnt charged.
I think ist a Problem with my TyTN Hardware.
I have all Power Supplys used they i have, but it doesent work.
Can you help me?
Its this a problem with the accu or a fuse on the circuit ?
Sorry for my broken english i hope you understand me.
Regards Patrik Laube
Hello,
first of all, try to soft reset the device.
If it fails, hard reset it.
If it doesn't work, go the service center.
Good luck
The above advice is fine. But you did not say if any of the LEDs are lit.
Do you get the red NO CHARGE LED?
Does your phone operate normally except for not charging?

Hello
My Phone is working fine but i cant charge it with the original HTC adapter.
I must load the accu with a special loader.
USB and Charge dont work....
And i have no warranty I cant send it to my operator.
When i plug in the USB Cable it doesent make everthing.
I think it was a to high voltage on the USB or the USB Ground ( - ) had a electrical Power for a litte moment.
Have you an idea?
Thanks for yur help.
Regards Patrik
I had a similar problem, which was sorted by a new rom, but I ascertained it was software problem when I realised it charged when powered off.

hi,
try this: when your device is connected via usb, tab on the battery icon in the taskbar on you device, go to the register "advanced" and check/uncheck "When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the pc"
thats it

I'm having an issue along these lines, also.
My phone has been working fine untill the other night when I tried to charge it via the wall electrical outlet. It will not charge at all, the battery has been drained to nothing and I can't turn it on. The yellowish light doesn't turn on when I plug it in like it used to.
I don't know if this is a battery issue or an issue with the USB connection inside of the phone. On a side note, when it did have power and I tried to connect it to the USB via the PC; it didn't work. The phone was on, but the computer didn't even notice the phone was plugged in. That leads me to believe it would be a connection issue; but I'm not quite sure.
If anyone has anything they can add to this I would appreciate it, thank you.
P.S. Bringing it to a service center is a bit out of the question in the mean time seeing as it was bought on eBay and funds are limited for the time-being.

Hello, I cannot find the "When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the pc" in my device. My Rom is WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.20273 cooked by dvha79_ddt.
My HTC TyTN has the sample problem, but i can use the USB to charge normally. It cannot work using my AC adapter Only when the device is open...
About your Battery Issue.
I'll tell you exactly why ur phone isnt charging anymore... If you have been charging it alot on the USB or pretty much any!! charging on the USB u have killed ur battery, never charge your phone on the USB it kinda sucks they should make these phones able to be Sync'd thru USB without a battery cause these batteries should not be powered thru the USB over Time... from syncing to your pc will kill these batteries i have noticed that when u sync this Tytn Ithru USB and the device is at say 70% it charges up to 100% pretty fast i would recommand to you and anyone who reads this dont sync your TYTN or any HTCC phone for to long to the USB Cause it will Trash your batteries Life down the road... Hope this was HELPFUL.
Cheers
Paul

^I'm having the same problem with my herm200. I did the soft reset, hard reset changed ROMs but still the same problem. I don't think it's the usb connector because if it is it wouldn't have been able to charge the phone even if it's turned off. Before I'm able to charge it turned on but it would take a few minutes before the orange led turns on, but when I use the phone or if I receive a text the orange led would turn off it's like the charger disconnects but after a few minutes it would go back again. Now it just wouldn't charge turned on, sometimes it gets worse where it just wouldn't charge on or off.
Now I'm already planning to buy an external battery charger.

Are you using an official 1000mA charger? (Not a 500mA one) 500mA ones work, but they are under-powered and can cause strange behaviour, like not charging whilst turned on or whilst on a call. Similar problems can be found with car-chargers that will not charge until the device is soft reset.
Mike
^no it's not the official charger, I have this usb wall charger called Power Juice (phone and mp3 charger).
Input Voltage: AC100-240V
Output Voltage: 5V
Output Current:1000mAh
Do you think it's because I'm not using the original charger?
fixed my charging problems
The boyfriend told me to try a new cable for my charger so he bought me a 5pin usb cable, tried it at home and it worked! I still need to turn off the screen sometimes but that's ok at least I don't have to turn off the phone anymore. Now my battery charges less than 3 hours.
Hold both SoftKeys and Then press the Power button
Or you can also hold both softkeys and then put your stylus into the reset hole.
answer why it does not charge through the usb
Sorry for the very very late response. Under electrical legislation all hand held electrical devices must be insulated and fused. Some of the chargers that you can purchase are sealed without fuse which indicates that the phone has a fuse contained within its circuitry (or there may be 2 fuses one in each device) .
The problem you have encountered is that you have connected your phone to a computer or mains supply to charge. There has been a surge in the electrical supply either on connection or by un-connecting from these supplies (e.g. connect to the computer as it is booting would see a 65w signal through the USB) and this more often than not blows the fuse which sits on the PCB (printed circuit board) just after the usb connection internally to the phone.
you can either have the fuse fixed for 20/25 gbp or you can purchase a new circuit board or you can use an external charger for the battery. As it is only the power input point that is faulty.
hope this helps
Since we are at this non-charging & battery issue, I would like to ask this question on the D838pro. My battery won't charge even after 24 hours of charging. The red LED blinks thru the whole process. The LED did not turn on to orange or green. It is the battery problem because my spare battery works well. I would like to know what is wrong with the battery as I am willing to strip down the battery. Could it be the battery circuit or wiring that had fired?

Never tried stripping down a battery, some things... well, just don't seem worth it. However as a learning exercise it might be interesting. Without lots of testing on a good battery with a multimeter then I have no clue what the readings should be between all the contacts. (Now there's a little job for you) It is as likely the internal structure of the battery is screwed as it is to be a wiring problem.
If you solve it you can certainly report back here

Hello everybody I have a problem with my HTC Touch Diamond I bought in September and I did not have any trouble with it since now. When I want to charge my Diamond and I plug it in the outlet it asks me what type of connection I want (Active Sync or Disk Drive) and if I close the window thus not choosing any of them it does not start charging. If I want it to start charging I have to go to Start - Settings - System - Power - and Uncheck the box When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC. I have to mention I did not recently install anything or done anything to with. This glitch just started happening a few weeks ago. So my question is what is causing this? And how can I fix it? Thanks…

Are you talking about plugging the device into a mains outlet via the supplied mains charger, or into your PC via the USB cable? If you're using the mains charger directly into a mains socket and you're getting the message 'What type of connection..... ', then there's something definitely wrong with your device, in which case you need to follow AdamPatel's advice and get it replaced / repaired
Really need some advice!!!!!

Thanks for answering. Yes i am talking about about plugging the device into a mains outlet via the supplied mains charger. The only way i can get it to charge is if i check the box "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC". This problem occured a few months bag and I moved the USB cable plugged in to the mains charger and it worked then but now no matter what i do to it it wont charge unless i check the box "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC". And also today i looked closer at the usb cable that goes in the mains charger and i saw it was a bit damaged (by damaged i mean some small white wires werent covered - sorry about my description dont actualy now how to relate). SO my question is do you think the phone has hardware problems or just the usb cable/ main charge???
Thanks for answering
Mmmm...
Is there any way you could try another USB cable first. If it is damaged, as you suspect, it could be giving wrong information to your device (ie. about what exactly it's plugged into). Might be worth trying a new one first, before going through the hassle of repairs or replacement of your device.
It does sound a bit suspect I must admit. Give it a go
Hi.
I sometimes get the same thing, but not all the time...
If I use my cheap car charger - mini USB, I always get the message about connecting via Activesync or Disk Drive, whereas if I use my proper mains charger at home it's fine. This would suggest (with my phone at least) the problem is with the cable.
Is it a problem for you not to leave the box '...don't charge...when connected to your PC...' permanently unchecked? Then it's just a one button solution without the hassle of needing to get anything fixed.
I agree with grahamkdt, though, rule out the USB cable if you can by trying another.
Help
seemed to have killed the battery on my HP614c ->
battery was at lowest point ( ie last bar) but had check my email for something urgent so i hooked the HP614c up to my laptop and used internet sharing,
the power from the usb was keeping the fone alive - phone tried to switch off about 5 times but usb power was keeping it from doing so, eventually the phone auto powered off but by that time the battery was left with no charge in it what so ever !!
If i start in sd loader the charging light comes on (ie it seems to be charging the battery then), but when phone is off or if phone is switched on in normal mode, the battery does not charge at all - i think I have killed the battery totally. If i switch the phone on the charging light would come on but there is not enough power in the battery to be on for more than one second .
Is there any other mode like bootloader that will enable me to only charge the battery up ?
or does it look like I have to buy another one
have you tried leaving it charging all night with the AC adapter?
I had same problem with a blueangel...
Solution? Buy a new one battery.
ok , strange one ...
got another hp 614c handset, but both batteries charge on the new fone
(so it wasnt the battery)
basically on the old phone what happened is that when the battery was at its lowest , i connected it to internet sharing via usb port
( it kept trying to turn off but stayed on - which i though was due to usb power keeping it alive ) - that was the last time the phone was able to ''charge''... it was charging perfectly before that.
so i 2nd presumed i had damaged the usb part of the old phone
however when i connect it to usb the phone connects via active sync perfectly and as a storage device ! it is fully operational apart from charging of the battery ?
surely if the usb port was damaged it would not connect via active sync etc ?
I am confused ..
anyone shed any light on this?
FOUND THE PROBLEM
MY 64 GB USB STICK (WHICH WAS PLUGGED INTO THE SAME PORT ) IS DEAD ALSO !!
LOOKS LIKE A PROBLEM WITH THE DESKTOP COMPUTER - MAYBE A POWER SURGE
..... ARRRRRGGGGHHH ( APOLOGIES FOR ANY WASTED TIME )
STILL SEEMS STRANGE THAT THE USB TO PC PART OF IT WORKS FINE STILL BUT NO CHARGING? WHY IS THIS?
Solution (for me anyway) for battery problems
Hi!
I had this problem some time ago.
If you use 220v charger connected to the phone, the red light will probably be on.
Try to take out the battery. Connect the phone to your charger (without battery in it) and wait for the light to go green. Then put back your battery and wait.
If this doesn't work, you can use an external charger.
I had this problem 3 times. This fixed it every time for me.

Are you sure the option [ Setting/About Phone/Battery/ When phone is on,..] un select?
cheer!
that option has not been selected, thought I went in and TICKED the box, then turned the phone off and still not even the orange light next to the speaker came on to indicate charging so I went back into settings and UNTICKED it again.
This is not just a problem when plugged into the computer, this is a problem when plugged into the standard wall charger that was shipped with the phone.

So far, it can not be the problem with software or sth like that
when the phone is off, all is hardware control and it will charge when you connect the charger (if everything working fine)
So, I think:
1st : you try with another cable ( may be problem here)
2nd: the problem with the USB port ( can you self repair? may be just some ease solder action, sth lose inside)
3rd: mainboard problem *_*
Hopefuly the problem is cable issue
Tried the same cable with another HD2, the other HD2 charged fine (theres 3 at my office)
Tried 2 different cables with MY HD2, same problem
Tried differed wall chargers, usb plugs, computers, car charger... all the same, no charging
Hooray Main board problem
