my brand new mogul, even without any third party programs installed keeps crashing. i have to soft reset it and even still it'll freeze during start up. i have the latest rom. any ideas how to fix it?
It sounds like you need to exchange it. That really shouldn't be happening, especially if it's brand new.
well, i did a hard reset after the first time it did it. i'm guessing it's more software than hardware. maybe i'll take it into a store

Hi. I really like my 8125. However, I have been running into a problem where my phone will freeze (maybe due to a free launcher program I installed) and sometimes, I don't even realize that it has happened. This is a problem with a phone since I can't receive calls when the phone is frozen. My wife has a Palm Tungsten T5 and I installed a program that registers a crash and automatically resets the T5. Is there such a program that does this on WM5?
I can't imagine an app that would detect when a phone is frozen since the definition of frozen is that nothing runs. My recommendation would be to get rid of whatever you suspect (you get what you pay for!) and if that doesn't cut it, wipe the thing clean with a hard reset and start over, paying attention to what you put on and how the phone reacts to it. There's a lot of crap out there I wouldn't let anywhere near my phone.
Just wondering if anyone else have the same problem .. it's driving me nuts during hard resets, i have been reading this forums almost everyday and don't see anyone reporting on this issue
whenever i do a hard reset and try to install all my programs. In the midst of installing the programs, Manila will randomly get corrupted and i will be unable to use the touchscreen properly. At the START menu, whatever program i touch, it will show "MOVE TO THE TOP" and i can't scroll up or down.
i have to hard reset again in order to restore Manila and install the programs very very slowly and with a lot of time lag in between programs installation. Meaning, i install program A .. wait for 1-2 hours, install program B .. wait for 1-2 hours ...
very very irriting and i seem to be able to duplicate the issue quite successfullly. I ever had to hard reset 5-7 times during the weekend, until i realise i can prevent the issue by install my programs very very slowly.
Has anyone encountered the same problem?

Does it happen if you don't install any software? I only ask in case it's a particular application that's causing the problem.
If it does happen, you should immediately get on to your supplier to arrange a replacement.

that's the strange thing, it doesn't happen at any particular application .. and after hard reset, it will work fine.
it sorts of happens randomly, whilst during program installation.
i'm thinking of bringing it down to HTC service center but i bet they will do a hard reset and show me that everything's fine and blame it on the 3rd party SW.

Can you not try using it for a while without any 3rd party software? Just to see if it happens that way. This is obviously not a long-term solution, but if it only happens during installation then it actually does sound like that's the problem.

have tested that out, the symptops will NOT surface, in fact the phone is very stable as long as i don't do a mass installation of the apps. Now i am restricting myself for 1 App installation PER DAY.
but i can successfully duplicate the issue almost 95% of the time by doing a mass installation of my apps (install1, reboot, install App2 ..)
very strange and it seems not as wide spread as i thought it would be .. i have not heard of such similar problems yet.

Currently on 1.66 but i have seen it in both 1.66 and 1.48 ROMs
Can somebody with the know how make a little program which litterally only performs one task: kills the process services.exe.
The reason for this is it is the cause of many soft resets in a day. Sometimes not even fixing the slowdown anyway and causing the famous black screen of death.
But as soon as i go to sktools and use the processes tool and kill the process phone goes back to being how it should! However because the phone goes into major slowdown it takes ages for the sktools processes program to load and then hard to select services from the list because of the lagging etc so it would be nice just to have a link that i could put on my quick links and when phone goes to melt down just press this magic button which saves the phone being hurled at a wall!
It needs to be called Meltdown Override or something!
This is a serious request as it would make HD2 use a much more pleasant experience!
Many thanks
This is pretty easy to do AFAIK...
If nobody else does it, I can do it when I have some more free time ...
I would appreciate this so much!
I think I may even use AEB to assign it to a long press of the back key or something
But, does services.exe auto-starts again? Because you could have some problems if you kill it and don't start it again...
Yer it does straight away but not running at 90% + CPU.
I find it unlikely that services.exe is really the culprit here, but rather a service installed on your phone that is misbehaving. If you find out which service is causing the problem, and then uninstall or disable it....

This guy is right...
Ive only just installed a new ROM voda UK 1.72 so I have next to no programs installed at the moment so I don't see what could cause it.
The main time this happens is when left charging over night and when you go to use it in the morning it's completely screwed. Soft reset doesnt fix it it just goes to black screen of death so then u have to take the battery cover off and reset again. The only thing i have found to get it to a useable state again is to kill process services.exe, and then its fine again. Once by doing that it stopped weather update and text messaging from working but atleast when i then did a soft reset things where still fine and those two things worked again and no laggy phone.
I kno it seems stupid to just kill a process and not find the problem but i cant see what the problem could be considering how recently i hard reset the phone (which i did 3 times in total to see if it got rid of the problem).
Just forget that ROM and go back to a working one? Seems easy to me... don't always need to have the latest or highest version number, just something that works... If 1.72 doesn't work for you, don't use it!
I would if it wasn't for the fact that after doing the annoying procedure in the morning of killing process "services.exe" then soft reseting, it runs the quickest i have ever been able to use the device on any ROM before it
You know that services.exe is one of the main parts of your phone-funcionality (calls, sms, etc.)?
As you said you experience it in most cases in the morning... Have u got GAlarm installed?
If yes --> Did you check the RegKey MidnightWakeup=True and change it to false?
My Girlfriends TD2 had the same issue. CPU usage by services.exe was often around 70-90% until i applied this change...
Services.exe is just like svchost on a windows-machine, it just hosts a bunch of services. So most likely its a service that has gone crazy.
Hi guys,
i wondering if anyone of u had this problem.
I always encounter auto reset whenever i use some program.
Like for example
I was watching Youtube, watch half way it will just auto reset itself. sometime it will auto reset a few time b4 it becomes stable. there was once i on google map, same thing happen to me, auto reset. the latest was that i was on MSN, and listening to music at the same time, leo seem not able to take it. just auto reset on me again.
Seriously it is getting frustrating... wondering if anyone out here got solution to it? i realized my phone seem to be quite warm during charging. apparently there a time where i was on charging mode, i on msn and surf net, it just auto reset on me again! Also sometime when i use some app it seem warm to my HD2 also. dont know it is just me or im thinking too much.
I suggest you hard reset your phone and don't install any third party software, see if it resets again.
If it works, start installing third party software one at a time to see which software is conflicting.
you know what. just now my fren called. i was on charging mode, the moment i pick up, it auto reset!
I'm having the same problem and a hard reset didn't help. Any solutions would be welcomed.
Mike
I had the same problem with my Kaiser. Turned out the culprit was cheap chinese replacement battery I installed. For some reason the power could be interruped for a moment causing soft reset. This was never happening when the phone was just lying on a table, but every time this happned I was doing someing with the phone. When I installed the OEM battery, this problem disappeared.
but it can't be my batt, cos im using the orginal batt provided by HTC. *sigh*
I'm same problem, hard reset or install new rom is not help (I'm do all think about OS. and software) check in xda forum

some of problem fix by send HD2 back to HTC. they are replace mainboard and problem gone.
For me can not send HD2 back to HTC. because I'm in Thailand but by HD2 from SIS. Hongkong.
Hope some one can help us to fix this problem.
I've had my Galaxy Tab (Verizon edition) now for under a week. Naturally, that means I've been installing apps on it every day.
Last night an issue cropped up that turns out to be a deeper problem than I thought.
To start, I'd randomly see a force close for the built-in Google Maps app. Force closes aren't necessarily unusual, but this was force closing every 10 seconds or so. And it wasn't running. No sign of it in any of the task manager or application manager or running services areas. Yet, it was crashing.
(Don't worry, the fun doesn't end there.)
So, I suspected the last couple of apps I installed and uninstalled them (more on this later). The problem didn't go away. Around this time, other apps started crashing randomly -- often without a force close (much more like how iOS apps crash -- a return to the home screen).
The crashing always coincides with a single short vibrate then a triple-vibrate about 5 seconds later when the app closes or the force close dialog comes up. This happens in nearly any app -- from the home screen (less common) to the Browser, maps, settings, gmail, 3rd party apps, etc.
But wait, there's more...
I wasn't observant enough the first time to notice that the suspected apps were never uninstalled. Now no app will actually install. When I perform the uninstall, everything seems fine. Until I reboot. Then the app is back, fully functional.
None of the apps are installed to the SD card. The device is not rooted. The device claims just over a gigabyte of internal memory free, and slightly under half the SD card free.
Anyone see any of this behavior? I'm hoping to avoid doing a factory reset -- while also unsure that it would even do anything if something else is wrong. And the two issues (crashing and uninstalls-not-sticky) aren't necessarily related.
This isn't my first Android device, either... I haven't seen this or anything like it on the G1, N1, Droid, Evo, Archos, or any other device, for that matter.
Thoughts? Ideas? Musings? Questions?
[Update: Device was replaced. If it wasn't a hardware problem, it was still good enough to prompt the retailer to replace it. They easily accepted, "The factory reset doesn't work." as a reason.)
Sounds to me like there is something wrong with the internal memory chip. I would return the device within the DOA warranty if I were you.
Seems that it probably is a hardware issue.
I tried a factory reset (which appears to be a very convenient way to boot in to recovery mode, BTW) and it was only able to delete a portion of data. All of the apps are still there, all the data, etc. (The SD card aside, the factory wipe doesn't touch that.)
So, back it goes for exchange!
I just started having the same problem today and I have not installed any new apps although I did update date my existing apps a few days ago. My phone is rooted but by your discription that's not the cause.
I did reset my phone and I formated my SD memory. I also use a code that I found to reset the phone to factory and reset everything. Non of this has solved the problem.
I'm still trying and I'll let you know it I have any positive results.
I'm on a Galaxy S Vibrant with 2.2 Firmware, Froyo and a 2.6.32.9 kernel
