Active Sync is always running - P3600 General

Hello,
When I check "Running Programs", I notice that Active Sync is always there. I stopped it, but then after awhile it appeared again. This seems to happen only recently. Does anyone know what makes active sync to run regularly? Thanks.

The same happens to me, someone told me it could be because of a program that's trying to update, but I don't have anything particular.

WM5 AKU2 onwards and WM6 always keep A/S running- it self checks every 5 minutes and if not running, will restart.
I think the only way to stop it is to set up a 'spoof' exchange server profile, and set it to Manually Sync in the schedule.

activesync turning itself on!!

hi
i have this annoying problem on my JJ
the activesync keeps turning itself on in the ppc...
i have 4.1 AS on the computer and i sync via usb... never made any connection settings on the pocketpc and dont have any server options aswell ... but every 4-5 mins if i go back to RUNNING PROGRAMS i can see activesync running... i have just formatted my JJ for last 2 days hoping i would get rid of this problem as i thought some 3rd party software was calling AS... but after hard reset (and no 3rd party software) im still having this problem
can any one advise? im on vacation and cant keep the damn charger in my pocket all the time nor is a socket available at all times to charge it ... this is for those who wonder why im bothered so much by AS running in background...coz it keeps the processor busy and that uses extra battery!!!
thanks
The active sync turns itself on because by default it is set to sync with an exchange server every so often. To get rid of this on your JJ go to the active sync program. From the menu create an imaginary server by any name say "ABC". Now go to menu again and select "Schedule". Finally under "Sync During" Peak times / Off-Peak times select "Manually" from both the drop down lists. You will never see the active sync progam start up by itself again.

Active Sync problem with brand new MDA CompactII

Somebody please help me!! I today got my new MDA Compact II. Have started it up and loaded active sync.
Whenever I connect it to the computer ActiveSync only gets as far as "Retrieving Settings"
No other Syncing takes place, however I can see the device in "My Computer" on my laptop.
I cant be doing anything wrong, its not as if i'm a newbie and have never used Active Sync before.
Anyone else encountered this problem?
I'm getting really frustrated, can anyone shed some light on this before it gets launched out the window?
You can try a few thing
(1) Remove the partnership of your device. E.g. File -> Delete Mobile device. It reconnect your phone it should ask you to set up a new partnership
(2) Remove the partnership, uninstall your active sync, reboot your system and reinstall your active sync
btw, the mobile device on your My Computer is there after you installed the activesync, doesn't mean much.
I expect it is the same problem as i see 50-60 times a day at work
Firewalls!
Sygate corporate firewall will not work until you do the MTU size hack.
On other firewalls, (McAfee, Sygate personal, etc) they dont always shut down when you disable them, they actually just hiode from you.
Check the MS site and make sure you have DEFINITELY added all the processes and ports to your firewall.
on the off chance it is not a firewall,
As it is now a TCP/IP connection with WM5, just cos your wm2003 device works, doesn't mean you've done everything right.
Try turning off any pop up blockers etc and check you only have the standard three protocols (at most, you should get away with only TCP/IP) enabled on the network connection that activesync creates. any other strange protocols can cause problems in communication.
What version of ActiveSync are you using? You tested the 4.2 Preview?

85002003 error on sync

I keep getting this error on when I try to sync my device - it syncs the local data, but not the data to the server. The server sync is still working through direct push though, just not when I'm connected via usb. Thing is, this error has been on and off since I first set up my device, although this time it has stayed and not gone away. I'm using AS 4.1. I tried upgrading to 4.2, and that worked well for a few days, but then it stopped syncing all together. So I downgraded back to 4.1, set up a new sync profile in AS, and still the problem is there. On my device it says:
Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.
On my computer it says: The server could not be reached. This may be caused by temporary network conditions. Support Code: 85002003.
This has happened on and off since my ppc had nothing on it. Still though, the last few programs I installed are: One Note Mobile, SuDoKuWizard, Ilium NewsBreak, Spb Weather, Resco today Plugin.
Anyone have any idea what's going on or how to fix it?
I have the same problem, just started failing on Exchange sync.
It seems like the the Wizard is trying to connect via GPRS to sync mail even though it is docked, so this fails. The rest of the sync seems to work.
I have not found a fix yet, except the obvious hard reset.
I am now also getting an error when I try to run the MMS configuration on the Wizard, it is complaining that MEETING.EXE is missing, dunno why, this also happens when I select meeting from the menu.

How to stop random activesync action ????

Pleased with my Orange M3100 so far, about 3 weeks of use...
Just have one problem, activesync randomly starts up and I'm bothered that I may accidently start a phone call if it fires up whilst in the case and I don't know about it...
I have the WiFi turned off unless I need it and also have data disabled using
the util off MODACO... so it shouldn't be seeing any thing to sync to, the only thing active is the Bluetooth which I leave on all the time for headset or GPS use with TOMTOM...
Any thoughts please....
Phil
You need to use the 'Fake Server Trick'. I can't find links to it on this forum, but if you spend a bit of time searching you'll find it on the board somewhere. I saw it mentioned recently.
It was a must-do on my old Dell Axim x51v because it would stop the PDA starting and lose the compactflash card amongst other problems, requiring a soft reset to start the PDA. Not so much a necessity on the Vario II thankfully. If you can't find it here I posted a thread on Aximsite a while ago giving the procedure step by step:

Is this gonna stop the WSOD and the "not coming back from standby mode"? Cause I've got these problems in daily basis and I have to reset all the time
I have a question about the fake server trick. Will it stop direct push? Also, will it stop updates to my calendar and contacts from syncing?

I can't really answer your question with absolute certainty because I don't use the Direct Push service on my Vario II.
However, I would guess if you already have an Exchange server mapped for Direct Push, then you need to have Activesync running for it to work properly and sync with the Exchange server regularly, so the F.S.T. is probably not for you.
That said - if you are getting problems which *may* have something to do with Activesync launching itself while on standby and causing WSOD etc, you could apply the F.S.T. then just load Activesync manually, start a manual sync, then close Activesync down afterwards. This would completely defeat the object of Direct Push though!

Give it a whirl... it can't do any harm.
I didn't realise the Hermes/TyTN/VarioII sufferred from these problems... maybe because I did the F.S.T. on my VarioII the moment I received it.
I did the fake server trick, seemed to work, but after a while ActiveSync is back in my runinng programs list. Is that normal or should the program be gone?
Every time you dock and sync with your PC, Activesync will load on your TyTN no matter what. When you undock you'll need to manually close Activesync otherwise it will stay running in the background.
I'm assuming you docked at some point?

No, I didn't. I did the server trick 4 times now, but every few hours when I look at my open programs ActiveSync is there again. I don't know if ActiveSync still tries to sync automatically or does nothing, but is is there...
Killsync - Stop ActiveSync!
So you have ActiveSync and you want to stop it from running. Well with Killsync, it stops ActiveSync so you can release the ram and increase the speed of your PC. This application does the same thing as the user switching to the task manager and killing the wcescomm task. When you need ActiveSync you can click on the ActiveSync icon. You can try putting Killsync in your startup to close ActiveSync if it starts first.

Just got around to trying the fake server trick yesterday, it appears to have worked on my M3100.. May it continue...
Thanks for help
Phil
Hi all yes I tried the Fake server trick 2 weeks ago before going To Germany on Business. I have not had the problem in the two weeks away. seems to have worked though I was not syncing quite as much or to same office PC. I will see home it goes now I am back in the office.
Thanks

Activesync Error: 85002003

I have started to get this error whilst trying to Sync my Wizard.
I basically have the pushmail activated but stays connected to the the GPRS connection and Sync's the Normal Partnership but not the Exchange one.
Anyone got an idea how to fix this or do a workaround.
I have got this on AS 4.2 and also AS 4.5 (Beta)
Tis annoying as generally a Hard reset will sort it but I dont want to go down that route again
Anyone know of a patch for this issue ?
You just need delete the partership in your desktop and re-sync.
best luck.
More problems
This problem also appeared for me the other day, and deleting the partnership, performing a soft reset and reestablishing it does not work. Nothing has been changed (manually - I don't preclude some kind of automatic update) on the Exchange server, the network or the phone itself. Moreover, my colleague (who is the Exchange server administrator) has just bought a Hermes/Vario II and has the same problem. Is a hard reset necessary for this? Has anyone else managed to resolve this problem?
The problem just appeared for me on Monday afternoon during a routine sync, and I hadn't seen it before.
I had the 85002003 error with a client the other day.
I fixed it by just upgrading to the latest version of ActiveStink. No idea what caused it, but the upgrade fixed it.
ive been having this same problem for last few weeks. if anyone figures out whats causing this please post a fix for it.
Has anybody resolved this issue? I am having the same problem... Until a couple of days ago I was able to connect via ActiveSync to my Exchange server and syncronize all my items. Then, all of a sudden it stopped working and I get the 85002003 error. I have not changed anything on either my HTC Hermes/Cingular 8525 or my computer with my Outlook 2007 and ActiveSync 4.5 setup. I can sync with my desktop just fine. Also, I can sync over the air (OTA) using GPRS/EDGE/3G with the Exchage Server just fine...
Any help will be appreciate, please.
Thank you,
Cameron
I had the same error a couple of times and it was usually the result of an upadte to a task in outlook.
The fix I have is to go to activesync (either on phone or PC) choose options and unselect everything except email. Select ok and re-sync and then add the other items back in. Works for me each time but haven't found a permanent fix.
