Hello, I have a Hermes (jasjam bought outright, australian model, on the Three network) running HTC's stock Windows Mobile 6. Occasionally I have a problem with messaging (receiving and sending) that I don't think is carrier related.
I used the dymond/black version of WM6 but the messaging application would freeze frequently, ie I would press the messaging hard button or the button on the Today screen and it wouldn't load the application. With the HTC WM6, it appears to be just not detecting the messaging centre.
I've switched it to GSM only mode for now to see if it works. One message has come through as a test reply, but its intermittent so uncertain yet.
On the subject of intermittent, I just thought perhaps it is intermittently roaming onto another message centre number (if that can even happen?) and therefore not allowing SMS transactions?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is someone else having the same problem?
Sometimes when I send an sms (and check the box to receive delivery notification), I do not get the notification. After that point no matter how many sms's I send, I receive no more notifications for any of them.
Then I do a soft-reset, send another sms, and voila, I do receive notification for the new sms.
Yes, I do have a lot of progs installed, but before the MDA Compact I had an i-mate PPC (or XDA2) with the very same progs and never had this problem.
Anyone?
Restarting radio helps?!
Today I had the same issue. I did nothing special before it happened, just used the phone as GPRS modem, and maybe started Notes application, then put it on charge.
Delivery reports were again missing. Here's what I did: Turned flight mode on and then off (this means I restarted the radio without rebooting the machine), ant after that delivery reports were again working.
Any suggestions?
i have had exactly the same problem as you, so i've done
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15663&highlight=sms
and since it works fine, for every sms, and without checking the box to receive notification
This is not what I am speaking of I also applied the tweak long ago, but sometimes even if I manually check whether the delivery checkbox is on, the delivery report still does not arrive.
If I restart the radio, everything is working again. So it is NOT related to the registry hack, it is some other bug...
Are you sure it's the phone (XDA) and not the service provider?
I get the same problem sometimes, but without doing anything, the delivery report would appear again.
I'm using the provider T-mobil and have discovered, that the deliveryreport is also depending of the provider which the addresee is using. Sending from one provider to another in this case D2 one will never get the del-report.
Regards
cimber
No, it is not the provider. I send myself an sms and don't get the delivery report. Then restart the radio stack, send another sms to myself, and the deliver report arrives immediately (for the second sms).
Solution
I upgraded the ROM of the machine. Since then it works fine.
As far as I remember I used /Magician/Shipped_ROMS/WWE_11200_172_11200.exe for upgrading.
I can not send SMS when in GPRS/EDGE areas - receive is OK. When in WCDMA (3G) areas, SMS works fine. Has anyone else experienced this and perhaps found a solution?
Hi!
I also have problems with SMS sending. More or less with any network I am in. Usually I can only send one to two SMSes, then I need to reboot to be able to send/receive again. SMS just hangs for a moment in Outbox, then an error message is displayed, network connection drops and then reestablish, SMS is put in Draft. VERY annoying!

Had the SMS sending problem (send 1 or 2, then had to reboot or rest went to drafts) when I first bought my phone e last year.
My problem? Old outdated SIM card. Went to dealer and they gave me a new one. Problem solved!
I did change SIM four times in the past 10 days. From the latest to the oldest my mobile operator has to offer. To no avail. Strange thing is that I have tested some SIM cards I could get my hand on (my father's for example) and two of them did not have this problem.
What could be the issue with SIM card? Why some are "outdated"?
Good question. I'm a pretty techy guy, but I know little about SIM cards.
I asked 5 techs who seem just as clueless. They said:
1. Newer SIM cards have More towers listed (doubtful)
2. Some SIM cards aren't compatible with 3G phones (maybe)
3. SIM contacts are dirty (no)
4. SIM might be overheating (no)
5. Some SIMs draw more current in certain network modes (doubtful)
I bet it IS your SIM. Ask if they have a 3G-compliant SIM. T-Mobile USA has no 3G yet but their SIMs are supposedly compatible. Who knows
Thanks for all the replies! I tried a friends new SIM and it doesn't work either, so I know it's not that. Re-booting doesn't help either. I am on the T-Mobile network and it works as soon as I am in their 3G area. It used to work on GSM until I upgraded to the official GPS update ROM and then it hung a few times and last week stopped sending altogether. It gives me a message that it is unable to send and moves the SMS to the drafts folder. Receive is OK. Is it possible that the radio (1.38) has become corrupted and maybe a new version (1.41) will solve this?
Re-booting only helps in sending one to two SMSes after reboot (and receiving queued ones). Otherwise I have just the same behaviour as you describe. I have also noticed that until I tap on OK on SMS error message, I am not available for incoming calls either! Do you also notice that after SMS error message network drops and reconnects? I have tried some friend's/family SIMs and majority did not work, two of them did. I don't know why. Where will 1.41 version of radio be available? Is it official?

Here's the link to the radio upgrade: http://www.file-upload.net/download-...-SPL-.rar.html
I haven't tried this yet, so I don't know if it will help.

I definately notice this problem as well. Always when the message is 2 SMS long... never can send. Perhaps it is the same problem as when the call is ended as soon as it is dialed, I read on one thread that the phone has trouble when switching to a 3g tower or not... I have a brand new ATT sim (cingular customer) in the Wash. DC area and I still have problems sending large SMS... sometimes reboot fixes but most times not... been searching also... I'm going to try to choose GSM only and vice versa to see if that makes any difference... the only other option for SMS is "Use unicode when necessary" does anyone know if that would fix?
Micah
I have now received fifth replacement SIM (looks like a very old and used one) from my mobile operator here in Slovenia, Europe. SMS sending and receiving now works like a charm! Strange that some SIMs work for no obvoius reason.

The phone has no problem switching between GSM and 3G (WCDMA) and in fact SMS works perfectly in 3G covered areas. I cannot send even a one word test, let alone a large message in my GSM area. I recently noticed that I can send SMS in some areas and not in others. Of course, I live in an area where I cannot send. What's weird is that it used to work. It may be that T-Mobile updated the network in some areas and that this is not compatible with Windows Mobile phones. My Sony Ericsson and Nokia phones still work. I'm hoping that when WM6 (official or at least Dopod) comes out, SMS will work properly again.
I recently acquired an unlocked O2 Atom Life and promptly upgraded to WM6. Everything is working pretty well, except that I don't get voicemail notifications when I have voicemail waiting for me. I am with T-Mobile USA. I live in So Cal., so technically I am using Cingular's network (that's what it says on my screen at least) but T-Mobile is my official provider.
I used to have an I-Mate Jam with WM2003 SE and was getting the voicemail icon promptly after someone had left me a message.
I put in a request with O2 regarding this problem, but I got no answer so far.
Can anyone help me with this?
Well, I have done a little experiment. I have called the T-Mobile USA voicemail center (not my phone) and left myself a message. As soon as I hang up, my Atom Life (which is on but with the screen off) wakes up (the screen lights up) but I get no voicemail notification icon.
This clearly indicate that I get a signal from the network. However, this signal isn't being interpreted by the OS.
Has anyone had this problem before? Is there a hack or registry entry or something I could do?
O2 support is of no help. They basically told me: "sorry we don't support the Atom Life in the US".
Please help!
Hello,
I too live in the US and I have an XDA Atom Life and I don't receive voicemail notifications either. My experience with O2 Support has been like yours regarding this mattter. Just curious, did you ever get this resolved?
I used to have an XDA Atom Exec and I never encounterd this problem with that device.
Thanks in advance for your response.
Cheers.
Hi,
Hi,
I also face this problem in my apple iphone. If any body know its trouble shooting so please reply. One more thing is how I can switch on its vibrating system.I can't found.
Thanks.
Steve.
Ok, it maybe something internal wasnt reset on the generic RAZR?? Thats my fear......getting a generic RAZR and having stuff NOT work.....you have no recourse with the carrier

My sister and I are on a family plan with T-Mobile. She is using Dopod 818 Pro, and I am O2 Atom Life. She has the little tape icon each time there is a voicemail waiting for me, but I face the same problem with as everyone above! I called T-mobile, and they claimed it could be phone-specific problem. I kinda agree. So, I get around the problem by going to my voicemail, and set it to page me when there is a voicemail. Nowadays, I will get a short call from my own no., so I know I got a voicemail. I prefer the little tape icon or text message, but what I have is better than not knowing at all.
Does anyone have anything on this yet?
Am also using the paging notification since I don't get that icon on my Atom Life.

Hey people, I also need help. Plese help me if anyone had solved this problem...
My work-around
I spoke at length with a real sharp techie at T-Mobile about this a year ago and after some discussion he realized that there were simply no registry hacks or other answers to this issue (he even took the issue to the T-Mobile support group engineers and called me back 24 hours later saying they couldn't figure it out, either). But he recommended a free voicemail service which has resolved - for all practical purposes - my issue.
The problem: I get a voicemail, but I see no "tape" indicator telling me so.
The REAL problem: I have no idea if there are VMs waiting for me at any given time without calling in.
The solution: YouMail! Highly configurable, much more options than T-Mobile's voicemail, FREE, and it'll send you text messages when you get a voicemail.
So I still don't get the tape indicator, but I do get a text message that pops up - and I get the text message indicator telling me a text is waiting. I added increased text capacity to my plan for about $5/month, and I'm golden. Highly recommend this approach.
PS - I don't work for - or have any vested interest in - YouMail. Just a happy customer.
i do not like the service of T-mobile at all. me and my family always prefer verizon. T-mobile always messes situations for you.
Solution for removing Voicemail notification
Hello everybody, I am a new guy to this forum and gotta say that it's very useful... Tons of useful information.
Here is the deal about voicemail notifications:
use your favorite registry editor for WM and navigate to
"HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Line1\Unread"
There should be a value name "Count" (not ****) with some REG_DWORD value
Change value to 0 (decimal)
Do the same to the registry key
"HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Line2\Unread"
and
"HKCU\System\State\Messages\vmail\Total\Unread"
It should remove Voicemail notification icon from the startbar.
In case you don't have registry editor, here is the one:
http://www.ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/files/CeRegEdit_Setup_0.0.5.2.exe
Enjoy!
Hey all,
(T-mobile UK btw)
I've been using a WM6 rom I got here ages ago for my Hermes. It's been a great performance boost in that it's cut down and slimline so seems to free up a little more program menu...
However there have been some persistent problems I haven't fixed yet....
I managed to set up Web 'n' Walk with some general settings I found on the internet...but I can't get MMS or voicemail to work.
For voicemail I dial 121, get the same 'the settings have been sent to your phone' and a text arrives saying 'Network Pers' but it never works, not on deleting or rebooting - think it only works on 'normal' phones. Anyway I can then usually ultimately get through to voicemail. Although it stops all the links to voicemail from the handset working.
MMS is the really anoying thing however.
I've noticed one additional problem...which is that now incoming calls terminate my internet connection to web'n' walk and I don't think that was the case before.
Lastly if anyone is using t-mobile UK can I ask them to recommend a good radio rom as the one I'm using seems to have some (occasional) conenction issues and a cracky line - especially if the other person's phone isn't too hot either but I do also occasionally get it on landlines.

Radio ROM - 1.50.00 was ripped from the official T-M UK WM6 upgrade (so I'm lead to believe). Anyway, it's a great Radio for T-Mobile.
MMS - you need to set the MMS up separately from Internet, then send an MMS to yourself (and check it was received) before others can send an MMS to you.
Voicemail - just hold down the 1 key on the virtual keypad, should work.
Terminating calls - If you're using GPRS, an incoming call will terminate the data connection. Only 3G can operate data and voice simultaneously (and sometimes the data call still drops)
If all else fails, use the official WM6.0 ROM from the T-Mobile upgrade website (http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/sa_vario.html), this will include the 1.50.00 Radio ROM and is guaranteed to work as soon as you've called your voicemail and sent an MMS to yourself. I've used CRC's 13.0 WM6.1 ROM with no issues, however.
My friend recently bought an hd mini today, and all seems to be working well - except the sending of sms messages. texts can be received, and phone calls made and received.
I tried installing the Zeynee "disable htc messaging" tweak for manilla 2,5 but it still wouldn't send.
the phone is running manilla 2.5.3, and the offical rom 1.07 WWE. I'm adverse to installing a custom rom on his phone as it could be more trouble than its worth.
he's already been in to the shop where he bought it (network providers shop) but they couldnt find anything amiss in the settings. I compared his settings to that of my hd2 on the same network and it seems in order. there was no entry in the message centre number field, although as stated before texts were arriving. I tried setting it to the same as mine but they just hung in the outbox.
has anyone had a similar problem and knows how to fx it?
network is Sure on the isle of man, if it's any use.
I noticed my mini wouldn't send sms, if the country is entered with two leading zeros "0049...", but sends without trouble, if the number is entered like "+49...", although both ways should work fine
