Hello everyone. I am having a problem and I hope that someone can help. I have recently purchased a htc x7501 and I would like to tether my nokia n95 to use the nokia as a bluetooth modem. I have used the n95 as a modem for a n800 so I know that I have the capability.
I have tried the *99# and also *99***1# and neither seems to work. I have searched the net and have seen that some have had success with entering a modem string in wm5 on other devices. I can't find this string in wm6 so im kinda stumped. Please help or point me in the right direction. Thanks!
new bluetooth stack does not support dial up networking...
bluetooth modem
hmm, works for me with a motorola v720 on veizon
3g connection gets about 375kbs per dslreports.com
Tether
When you entered your settings, did you have to simply enter the dial string and that's it? I called T-mobile USA last night and they were no help. I may try calling HTC and see if they have any info about this...
dial up
on the phone, had to enable dial up networking (DUN), then on the advantage, pair the 2, then detup a bluetooth modem (under communications), set dial string.
lots of info at http://www.howardforums.com/ - lookup your phone/carrier first, regadless of what pda they're talking about pairing, and try those settings
Bluetooth tether
I will continue to search howardforums and see if I can come up with something there. I called HTC USA today and spoke with a guy there. First, he told me it was not possible. When I told him that it was clearly stated on pg 120 in the manual, he asked me where did I find the manual. After walking him through the HTC website to locate the manual (remember, he is the tech), he just read the info straight out the manual and said that they can't support it because the phone runs WM6! I just hung up on the idiot and realized that i'm gonna have to find the answer on my own!

Actually, he's trying to use his N95 as the modem. It's certainly possible; see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282780

I 'm experimenting problems to setup a GPRS connection with my local cellualr provider, because it seems that here in MEXICO, you need to configure +52 55 *99# intead of +0..... (tmobile default configuration) I own a TMOBILE XDA PW10B1 ROM: 3.08.10 ENG, Radio Version: 6.02
Can anybody help me to do this configuration?
Sounds like your GPRS operator needs to go on a course
A GPRS handset doesn't actually dial a number. The *99# is used as a code to tell the phone to connect to GPRS it is not sent to the network.
There are actually 3 ways for a GPRS phone to connect to a GPRS network
ATD*99# (or ATD*99***1# on some handsets)
AT+CGACT=1
AT+CGDATA=1
The last two don't work in practice as once you are connected you need a PPP link to do anything useful.
You do need to tell the phone what Access Point you wish to connect to (the bit after the +0~ on the display, which can be removed by tweaking the Dialing Locations section). This is done by the AT+CGDCONT command, but as all AT commands are 'hidden' by Pocket PC the Connection Manager sets this before it connects.
The customer care person in Mexico simply doesn't understand how GPRS works. Unfortunatly few customer care staff do elsewhere in the world either.
Thanks for your replay.
how can I tweak the Dialing Locations section?
I'm new in this kind of tech.
Start\Settings\Connections\Connections\Dialing Locations\Dialing Patterns
Replace everything (or just International Calls) with g.
Mind you it will make no diference to the GPRS operation of the device, only the display of the "dial string" in the message window.
I works!!!! very well. It fells a litte bit slow, but it works... Thanks.
Is that possible to somehow see what AT commands have been used by the connection manager/pocketpc?
I have GPRS working on pocketpc, but I couldn't get it working using AT commands magic and with pppd (under linux, not on the XDA, but the same SIM/network.).
Hi All,
I'm new to this board and nowhere near the level of knowledge and expertise as most of the others here, so I apologize ahead of time for the possibly ignorant question I'm about to ask...
I'd like to use my Siemens S56 as a modem w/ my PC without using my AT&T Wireless service. I'm using an IrDA connection which works pefectly. My ISP is Earthlink. I would like to dial in to Earthlink using the S56. I have followed the directions at this link:
http://support.attwireless.com/awsw...ns/s56/setup_guides/winxp_dialup_infrared.jsp
and it works perfectly. I then replaced AT&T's recommendation of dialing "*99#" and entered an Earthlink dial up number.
Problem: When dialing in, there is no pick up at the other end. I have dialed the Earthlink access number directly with a land line AND the S56, (and other Earthlink numbers as well...they all work) and can hear the "handshake" perfectly, but when dialing with the PC, it goes through the process, dials the number (it shows up on the S56 as dialing) but there is no pick-up.
I'd like to avoid AT&T Wireless for S56 modem use and simply use my current ISP. Is this possible?
Thanks for any help.
Is it possible to send a Fax with the Tytn? Or with the Laptop to use the Tytn as a Fax-Modem?
Fuzzibär
yes, it is posible.
You would require CSD (DATA CALL) services enabled on your GSM account. Mobile terminated and Mobile originated. Talk to your carrier data support services.
Once enabled, connect your TytN to your laptop over USB or BT in wireless modem mode.
on your desktop computer configure dialup connection using yout TyTN as modem.
om Tytn:
start--> settings --> CSD Line Settings:
choose:
modem mode: V.32
connection element: non-transparent
Soft reset your device for new settings to become effective.
@SecureGSM I tried your procedure on my Universal but the Windows XP computer does not recgonize the Universal modem as a fax modem.
Probably the Universal modem is not fax compatible. I am surprised that the TyTn uses a fax compatible modem. Actually this procedure has worked for me on my Nokia 6600 but never on the Universal. I have got my service provider to enable both Fax and Data service and I can connect to the internet with the CSD connection.
Regards
Cingular no longer supports CSD
According to Cingular Customer Support, Cingular does not offer CSD capability any longer. This service was discontinued in December of 2005.
My operator still offers CSD, and I wonder, is it necessary to do it through a computer? I mean, can't the Hermes send a fax all by itself?
My pre-upgrade 8525 showed as an HTC Modem in Control Panel / Phone and Modem Options / Modems tab before upgrade. Now it doesn't. It's that darn Internet Sharing app, which actually works great and gave 725 kbps here near DC one morning on 3G. Wow. That's fast.
You see, it appears Cingular removed WModem.exe and the help and shortcut files from the upgrade. I tried WModem.exe from my SX66 and it ran but it did not show up as a modem. That's probably because of registry or the hardware port for the modem differs from SX66 (Blue Angel) to 8525 (Hermes).
SO.....
Do any of you pre-upgrade 8525 owners have WModem.exe at minimum from your My Device/Windows directory? Can you share it here? (It's an invisible system file on a Winows PC. Turn on Tools / Folder Options / View / Show system files to see it and transfer it)
If you can do this, I will try a wireless fax on Cingular with the 8525. I did send wireless faxes on Cingular with my SX66, but they each cut off at the same page position, about 1/5 down. Cingular credited months of CSD when I explained that fault.
Yes, wireless faxing is possible. As stated above, your account must be provisioned with CSD from Cingular for $3.99 / month. I have had that since way back in 2005 or 2004 and Cingular confirms they will not market CSD to new accounts or provision CSD to existing accounts; you have to be grandfathered in, and even then support is nearly nonexistent.
I work with a volunteer group and fax PIHI under HIPPA regs to the front desk during meetings. That's my fax use; it's tethered.
P.S. 2007-11-18: Cingular 3rd tier tech support has ironed out most problems with CSD as I continue to learn about wireless faxing. I found a Cingular ROM of early release on the web but it won't load, most likely because the 6.0 Professional ROM has a 2+ bootloader, but we (our Cingular Family) have one upgrade avaialble, so I'll get an 8925, which an HTC rep promised has got the Wmodem app, saying "I've got one here in my hand, and it's there". The BT modem doesn't fax. I am exploring ETSI modem standards and learning my extended AT codes like AT+GMM, etc. I used the Motorola RAZR belonging to my Cingular Family primary account holder to send a complete wireless fax the other day, so I know CSD is working. I'm working to set up intenet connection sharing on my home PC by dialing home but that's not free, like it is with a T-mobile My Faves account. Slow and steady progress like the CSD service itself. A call from Cingular 3rd tier to me is scheduled for [email protected] EST to finalize this service. I"ll ask for a year's credit of CSD because the rep admitted the account was misprovisioned.
Hi,
Could not find this file on my Windows' folder, yet I came accross this thread where you might find an appropriate assistance:

Last from the past
I grandfathered my CSD line and still have it, but now...
I have a Russian Ring Central desk set on Phone Works 2004 on Windows XP Tablet PC edition inside a VMWare virtual machine with 4 Intel i5 cores and 2.9 GB of RAM on a Samsun XE700T1A-H01 Slate to connect with, *and* the AT command set from Option.
What fun.
Pluck low hanging fruit.
Make new friends and keep the old.

Wow, I posted that 11 years ago! I can't even make it out what it was about, although I remember my beloved TyTn...
Hi,
Relatively new on here so i hope i'm not asking an already answered question?
Search result was nagative so here goes.....
Just took on an O2 bolt on for wifi with BT Openzone and The Cloud. Tried to use BT Openzone for the first time and i cannot get connected.
I select O2 from the drop down list which redirects me to an O2 page requesting my mobile number as log in. After entering this it will not recognise the number and tells me to try again or to call customer service.
As my HD was bought sim free and O2 do not sell this phone, they can't help.
I did read that some people with i-phones had similar problems and this was apparently down to IP addresses?
Working away from home and need to use Skype for calls home.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Anyone got any ideas?
Sounds like an O2 problem to me. They probably haven't setup your account properly. And not helping because its a Touch HD is rubbish as they gave me support on setting mine up a few weeks ago. They are even ment to be getting the HD on their network soon anyway!
I'd give them a call and don't say that you have the HD see what they saY!
Unit will not wifi. We have other units that wifi. There is a test website for HTC. It requires a id and pw for the test site. Also HTC has a 128mg test porgram to test all functions. Please advise
i also have the same problem with wifi on my o2 xda mini-s. based on what i read it has something to do with the router signal whether its wireless b, wireless g or can support both (wireless b/g)
usually today i think most router is wireless g therefore phones with wireless b capability cannot connect to wireless g routers. and my phone before doesnt even work with router wireless b/g. Maybe we have similar problem.
i think there is a registry hack somewhere..
there i found it.
or what i did was flashed a new rom that has already did the registry hack.
i can connect to wifi now
cheers
Dear Janil, thanks for all your help. We have extra mda tmobiles for parts etc. Is the wifi a software program or hardware? The wifi works on our backup mda, but the wifi does not work on this unit.
The issue with the backup mda tht can wifi is the plug to the mda to charge the unit broke off and does not work. We are always running on the battery. Can we use CA glue to put the plug back in the mda? We tried solder that did not work. Any suggestion would be apprecated.
If you want the service manual. We are looking for the sofware test program that HTC service companies have.
Please email us at [email protected] aol.com. We will email it back. It's on PDF.
Also what new rom are you using? We would like to upgrade to 6.5 or higher. We used x2h_wm6.5_v4.8C rom. Nice program uses a exe file instead of the steps unlock etc. That is when we lost the wifi capibilities. Please advise
first make sure that the phone has a wifi adapter (hardware) but hearing its a mda tmobile (i assume its a HTC wizard model) i think it has already wifi capability by nature. its either the hardware for wifi is broken. test it if you can detect a router signal. if you can detect a router signal then there is hope.
by the way i used TnT series by it's right. though its windows mobile 6.1
you can find it here.
after i flashed the rom i didnt need to do the registry hacks for wifi.
my phone instantly can connect to a router.
mba tmobile need help.
Dear jenil, thanks for all your help. downloading tnt as we email.
If wifi hardware, what is the part number. remember we have the service manual.
would you like the service manual so we can be on the same page when we ask for the part number.
mda tomobile need help
Dear Jenil, any suggestions for fixing the broken charger plug on the backup mda. Is it better to use CA glue or solder. Please advise
i am not sure what is good for fixing the broken charger. i do not have enough knowledge with regards to hardware things. but i guess someone here can advise you with that.
nonetheless try the rom if ever it would fix your wifi problem with your t-mobile.
one more thing, if it would be your first time flashing a rom then i think you would need this.
Flashing incorrectly may result to bricking/damaging a phone..
