SD Card Slot Stopped working. - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hello lads,
I've got a problem, my SD Card Slot has stopped working.
I've tried another SD Card, i've tried soft-reset's, i've tried different WM6 ROM's, i've even found an original Orange ROM on the Prophet Wiki, and I still can't get it working.
Anybody got any idea's please ?
Thanks,
Ferret !

Yep, just keep waiting
Or you may want to try to keep it shutdown for a few days, mine began to work again (on its own....) after 4-5 days if I remember well, good luck

It seems to come back every so often - But then just locks the phone up when I try and access anything !

sorry, wrong forum

I had it working for abit - But now it's stopped again

Got same problem here. Nothing we can do then? I've tried almost everything! I've even installed WM6, and no use.
I need my sd for the maps in the tt. dunno how I'm gonna work it out.

Exactly - I'm supposed to be driving about 400 miles in about 3 weeks time, so need to get it working.

HI!!!
hey! found a solution that worked, at least for me. I fully dissasembled the hole phone and took a look at it, and found that the problem was that the pins were dirty! Can you believe it? ****, so much work and that was the problem! So I got a fake sd card, the tipical that come with any phone or whatever but ar only made of plastic. I put some alcohol on it and put it in and out several times. Don't put to much alcohol or you can break something,ok? and tried the sd card then. It worked perfectly. I don't know if this will help, but I hope it does!
Please tell me if it works for you too,ok?
Good luck.
bye.
Ivan.

I tried cleaning them up with abit of tissue wrapped around that plastic SD card, but it doesn't seem to have worked.
I don't like the sound of putting alcohol inside the phone

Ok, I understand. But the truth is that the pins get dirty, and the alcohol cleans very well in first place, and evaporates very fast in the second. Give it a try, but only a couple of drops of alcohol. Really it worked for me.
bye.

I have heard that a small amount of alcohol used as loko suggested actually works. Good luck with getting it working again.

I think i've finally got it working - And not by using the alcohol drops.
I actually dropped it from about 3ft today, and all of a sudden, it's working again !
So next time it stop's working, I'll drop it again !

Jajajajajajajajaj
Ok.
I'll give it a try next time!!
That's a good one!

Still ain't got a working Storage Card - Anybody else experiencing this ? Or anyone fixed it ?

i have that problem too, my mmc (512MB) not detect. i'm using dopod 818, i had update rom, but still have that problem. someone have another solution than using alcohol???

Remember Nintendo?
Remember when you used to have to blow in Nintendo games to get them to work? Well, the same problem plagues the SD slot in the Prophet. I'd say 9 chances out of 10 is, your pins are dirty like loko says. He's also right about using Alcohol to clean them too! I would assume that you wouldn't put beer in your phone, but rubbing Alcohol is used to clean a lot of eletronic equipement especially where contact points are involved. I would be much more weary of putting tissues in there than Alcohol. I had the same problem, and solved it by blowing in the slot just like back in the day with Nintendo. (after flashing and reflashing for days, thinking it was a software problem) If you're afraid to get spit in there, you can get a can of compressed air from any good electronics store.

The alcohol didn't work either.

SD slot doesn't work
Try drinking it (the alcohol). At least it might make you feel better.
But seriously, I followed the advice to blow in the slot, and that worked for me.

drinking rubbing alcohol can make you blid or even kill you
i'd sugest crying over drinking that or better yet
getting some drinking alcohol

I think the s200 is a drunk PDA it may whant more give it whisky this time lollolo.
Now for serios try dissasemble e verify the conector is not so dificult there are a lot of manual´s were how to do it. The first day i buy my s200 i dissassenble it completly to clean and change cover because it came to me almost dying.

my mda compact drown in cup of coffe

I reanimate it at once, but there are some problems after it.
1) the calendar button is not working (I can live with that)
probable the button is glued by coffe - do you know some fluid to safety unglue it (without unbolting the device)
2) I can't switch off device while the BT is off, when BT is on it's working
what can be the reason of that, how to fix it?
I'll be gratefull for your help
If I were you I would send it to a service centre. Leaving coffee (possibly with sugar) for a long time might corrode some part of the circuit. Unless you have it properly cleaned, you might end up with more things not working as time goes by.
I pour in the buttons with spirits, if it won't work I definitely send it to cervice center. Thx for advice.
You could disassemble and put the board in an ultrasonic cleaner, I think thats the only way to be sure of cleaning it. It was not a good idea to switch it on after it got wet.
hi,
I'm really sorry 4 your jam, and also I'm not gonna tell you, how to clean it, but please tell me....
how can one manage to drawn it into coffee cup?
buzz
That's a bad news. I feel your pain. I ruined my Fujitsu P-2110 when my son spilt coffee on it. I was not present then, and my wife wiped out coffee and made a mistake to turn the laptop on.
Like kta suggested, I'd send it to service center. Otherwise, I think your JAM will develop more problem later on especially if the coffee had sugar in it.
 Gee.... you must be having a BIG cup of coffee !!

Same happened to my ipaq once with hot chocolate.
If you have no choice and you can't send it to service centre, I just opened mine up and wiped everything off with damp cloth, dabbing everything down. It's worked perfectly for years since then, no problems.
However, mine only got splashed, not dunked!

You could try feeding a donut through the sd card slot to soak up the coffee, this also works with croissants.

My Memory Card wont stay in anymore :'(

Anyone know why ??? It just wont click in anymore... I woke up one day and it was just sticking out - Ive tried jamming it in but its just not reading it!!
Anyone have any problems like this before ? All my stuff os on the card :'(
Only replying so you dont feel alone. But 1st off check if anyone broke inside it, Anything stuck? I could suggest opening it if you have the tools to check it out and maybe fix it if its not latching right.
Also you can still get a adapter at radioshack for the mini sd. I did. It was 20$ came with SD, Mini SD and Micro SD all in one. So least you could get your stuff. =)
Mem Card
Does it work if you hold it in? If so, I didn't like that mine came out occasionally so I hot glued it in. Hold it in, run a small bead of hot glue on top wait a sec and press the glue into place with your thumb. The glue wont run into the phone and it's easy enough to remove when you actually want it out. If your careful you can even heat it a little with a hair dryer to smooth out the glue. Personally, I don't ever take mine out. I had problems with the device not recognizing my files after removal. I install most everything to the SD that works right there.
**Try this at your own risk. I've done it several times and never had a problem. Just don't blame me if you break something.**
You can apply a thin layer of sticking tape around it to keep it firmly in the slot, but make sure you don't cover the connections with it.It'll stick in there and work proper.
Cheers
It just doesnt seem to be reading it at all - But when I plugged in into my wii all the music is still on it and it seems to be working fine.
When I try and jam in my old card it flashing for a second to say would you like to format the card so it must be working kinda... Argh!
Its really annoying - I used it as an mp3 player quite a lot and theres just not enough internal space...
Hopefully it will fix itself soon as that appears to be the only hope
I'm wondering if maybe the mech is loose and pushed inside. May take a little surgery. If I remember right there is some sort of spring loaded mech that keeps pressure on the card connections while in the slot.

Mini-sd slot broke

Today I removed my minisd card and put it back in shortly after, but something went horribly wrong
Somehow I broke the thing that holds the card in position so now it wont stick in.. so I tried to make it stuck in with a paper which works but it doesn't get recognized then, I guess the mechanism which holds the card always turns on a switch thats tells my wizard to start reading the card
Does anyone got any idea to fix it, cause this sux big time (I bought the phone a few months ago for €200), I cant find my receipt but ill try to get a copy of the shop .
Im so pissed right now
Nobody knows, the warranty is overdue
Could I open the phone and maybe fix it myself?
I got the service manual but not the tools, anyone ever seen the inside of the phone, would it even be possible to fix it?

similar problem
Hi there
i had a similar problem - had to buy another htc 8125 and unfortunately it came with a broken slot for the minisd card. At first i thought i wasn't pressing the card enough for the thing to click and hold it. Then i realised it was broken. As far as i could see from the little opening there was a white slider which is pushed down by the wider side of the minisd card. It has a spring behind it and somehow it has to click in down position and hold the card.
i tried to push it down with a very very small screwdriver and understand the way it worked. With my bad luck i pushed a little harder and broke that white slider. It just broke in the middle and one part stayed down and the other was pushed up by the spring. It broke exactly at the place where it was pushed by the memory card. So my card was not jumping anymore out - it just stayed in but was not recognised by the phone.
I didn't know what else to do so i found some instructions on how to open the phone and went for it with the hope to reach the memory card slot an hopefully fix it. HTC has taken good care of the stupid slot. It is soldered to the motherboard and nothing much could be done. There are 4 points that hold it but i didn't go that far to unsolder it (didn't know how many springs and other parts would jump out of it). Anyways - what i noticed was the following:
there are two small "plates" at the bottom of the slot. Wheny ou isnert the card they touch and i think this is what makes the slot active and knowing that there is a card in it. I had some dirt betwen them and that was preventing them from making a contact. After i removed that small piece of dirt and inserted the card it worked like a charm. It stays so tight in there now that i hardly can get it out - which is not that bad because i can always use the usb cable to transfer whatever i want.
I think i still have those manuals for opening the phone, so if you decide to go this far and can't find them i can send you an email.
Hope i was of any help
There's no need to open or disassemble the phone to repair the slot, just apply a thin layer of any adhesive tape around it but make sure you do not cover the connectors and insert the card firmly in the slot.
Cheers !
But well even if I push it in it doesnt get detected(I added a piece of paper to hold it in but it didnt detect it still).
I think ill buy a torx screwdriver and open it.
I'll still advise you to check the mini sd in some other phone,if it still doesn't get detected than get a new one or it may need to be reformatted.Opening up the phone might lead onto more problems.
Cheers !

HTC Universal SIM Card is missing

My HTC Universal says the SIM Card cannot be found or is missing, which of course is not true. I have tried with several SIM-Cards, but none of them work better. The error message appears as follows: Sometimes the phone connects to the network, but then suddenly the connection is cut off.
I bought a second-hand device, but before I jump to any conclusions I would like to rule out whether:
-it could be related to a radio upgrade
-it could be related to the SIM-Lock removal
-it could be related to a ROM-Upgrade
I am using Radio 1.18 and maxstegi's ROM 4.7.
Besides, I would like to know where to fix the device. It was originally a T-Mobile MDA Pro, but now that their software isn't any longer installed, they would probably refuse.
Thanks in advance
Michael
I had the same problem with mine. I eventually solved it by playing a hot-air rework blower over the radio chips, It's a bit of a drastic job, but it worked for me.

i had the same problem .. and i tried another solution .. i got a dry magnetic head spray cleaner and i sprayed the whole mother board connectors .. it worked as a start with me and i am waiting if it will remain good or will happen again ..
3 days now and my xda didn't give the sim card message - my problem solved
Great idea. I'll try today!
Sorry..but..for "dry", what do you mean? Is it the isopropyl alcohol based liquid?
i mean dry that it does not leave any traces on sprayed place after a while .. some other magnetic cleaner sprays leaves an oil layer over the sprayed area ..
ask in your location for a magnetic head spray cleaner and i am sure you can found one easily
it is now about 1 week and i had no problems
thanks

Hi aym_louis "big mind"!
Yesterday I immediately went to buy the spray "deoxide for contacts" instead of "magnetic heads cleaner". It was not the kind that also protect the contacts, so it doesn't leave the oil layer on them.
Well...I opened the mda pro, sprayed all over the motherboard and waited for 20 mins. I inserted the sim and didn't work....at first!
I tried after some more time, and it worked, and kept working 'till now...thing that never happened before! Maybe it needed more time to deoxidate the mysterious contacts.
Really good idea! You solved a big problem, in a easier and more secure way, compared to the hot hair flow!
Weeel done!
thanks dear .. any time

Yes problem solved
Hey Guys,
I also have this problem for a long time and I'm using another device now..
to summarize:
1. I need a magnetic head cleaner? not contact cleaner?
2. Which chip should I spray? on which side of the MB?
3. Should I go the "hot air blower" route at all?
It's a really annoying problem!
Thanks,
Ariel

I've got the same problem, and I've tried yuor solution but it doesn't work for me.
I've used a dry magnetic head spray cleaner on the motherbord (front and back) but the problem is the same ..Sometimes SIM Card is missing..
I noticed that if the settings of the phone (Band) I force GSM (not Auto) error occurs less frequently..
any Idea?
It worked great!!!
Just tried the dry magnetic head cleaner spray and all I can say is it WORKED GREAT on my Uni, which was displaying that «Invalid or missing SIM card» annoying message!!!
I disassembled the unit completely (this included removing all the inner metallic "shields" fitted to both sides of the mainboard), sprayed the mainboard on both sides repeatedly and quite abundantly and allowed it to dry for an hour.
On the first reboots it kept getting stuck on the 1st splash screen, so I waited for another hour, for it do dry completely.
I then performed a hard reset on the Uni(t).
It simply worked. My SIM card is now recognized again.
I'm on my 4th reboot since I've reassembled it and the OS loads completely, I've reinstalled the software applications I lost after the hard reset and my SIM card keeps being recognized by the Uni and allowing me to make / receive phone calls & text messages.
Thanks a lot for the hint.

congratulation on your WORKING mobile
Hi Guys,
For what it's worth i have exactly the same problem on my G3 device. I used Servisol Video 40 from www.maplin.co.uk which is a tape head/disc drive cleaner, and it says on the can that it "removes tape oxides and dirt". I removed the shields around all the qualcomm chips and covered the MB, let it dry in sunlight (took 10 mins), reassembled and the problem is still exactly the same, i.e. this method DID NOT work.
For those of you who DID get this to work it would be very useful to know EXACTLY what cleaner you used.
It would also be helpful to know how 'permanent' the fix was, and if anyone else has tried what I have and succeeded or failed?
Many thanks for the helpful posts, if I can get this solution to work it would be awesome. If not then it's onto the rework station and who knows what then.
Cheers,
Appy
I am suffering from the exact same problem; can those of you who fixed this horrendous issue by spraying your motherboards, could you please confirm that your devices are still free of that "missing sim card" error. And what brand of spray did you guys use? If at all it makes a difference.
Thank you.
I cannot find anything in stores remotely similar to "dry magnetic heads cleaner spray" if you guys know the brand name of this product or an alternative, please post your replies.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
found contact/head cleaner at the source; sprayed once then tested, it didn't work. Sprayed second time then tested, it didn't work either but managed to keep the phone alive without loosing the sim for a few hours. I guess will be spraying the third time in a few days...
If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to share.

microSD cannot be read.

So...
I own a Bell Atrix. My carrier is Bell.
I flashed my phone with OLYEM 1.4.2.
Rooted it with Seven's script.
Made sure ADB was allowed to su.
Installed GingerBlur.
Phone got stuck in a reboot loop.
Re-flashed with OLYEM.
Now, I cannot mount my microSD. The settings show as unavailable and the manual mount is greyed out. I have tried a battery pull, a different microSD etc. My microSD works flawlessly in a different phone. I really do not know what crapped it. Was it GingerBlur, the flashing or just bad luck...
This means I cannot root the phone anymore and im stuck with OLYEM and a defective phone.
I took the phone to Bell for repair. They said it's been over 30 days from the buy date so they have to send it to an external firm to have it checked... I just hope they will not come back to me saying I voided my warranty.
Please let me know if you have had this problem or if you think there is something to be done if worst comes to worst.
Thanks!
I had the same issue but it wasn't related to updating. I had to take the sd card out and press down on the metal piece that holds the card in place to get it to have better contact. This worked for a while and then i pressed down even harder and it wouldn't read at all so I had to stick something under the metal thing and pry it back up and now it works great.
Just semantics, but it should be "micro SD", rather than "mini SD" (which is a different card type).

I used the semi-pointed but round end of a nice pen to press it down and when I had to reverse it I used the nail file part of some little finger nail clippers. Just stuff I had sitting around at my desk at work
Thanks for the suggestion! If I get it back and it's not fixed, I will try that. Bell rep told me it would take from 3 to 6 weeks. Yeah... 6 weeks.
Meanwhile, they gave an HTC Desire Z. I really like SenseUI. It works so much better for me when I compare it to Motoblehh. However, I do not like the feeling of the phone. The movable parts do not appeal to me.
Thanks again!
The Bell rep also told me it was the first Atrix they sent back for repair...
Ok, going really basic and this probably is not your issue, but I just had the same issue with a camera and one phone not recognizing one of my cards. I had to reformat it in windows and it has worked perfectly since. Probably because I was switching between so many devices or just coincidence, just passing this on.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
i just get this issue i want to try gingerbreak and i couldnt find my micro sd i reboot and so on many times, perhaps i make it work you need push pretty well, and try moving when its on the phone

There are two metal plates that need to make contact - if they don't the card isn't detected.
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/JhXk4VIeX3CahwaY.huge
In the lower left of the sd card slot you can see the two plates. When the card is in the slot, these two plates should touch. When I got my phone, they were not touching, so I bent them slightly to make the contact.
If the link doesn't work, just go to the iFixit teardown and look at the pics at the bottom of the first page.
Fixed
I just got my phone back. Looks like the firmware flash was what broke the phone. The repair slip shows a software update only.
Im just happy they repaired it. I think I will wait for a Bell SBF...
Thanks!
