my mda compact drown in cup of coffe - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I reanimate it at once, but there are some problems after it.
1) the calendar button is not working (I can live with that)
probable the button is glued by coffe - do you know some fluid to safety unglue it (without unbolting the device)
2) I can't switch off device while the BT is off, when BT is on it's working
what can be the reason of that, how to fix it?
I'll be gratefull for your help

If I were you I would send it to a service centre. Leaving coffee (possibly with sugar) for a long time might corrode some part of the circuit. Unless you have it properly cleaned, you might end up with more things not working as time goes by.

I pour in the buttons with spirits, if it won't work I definitely send it to cervice center. Thx for advice.

You could disassemble and put the board in an ultrasonic cleaner, I think thats the only way to be sure of cleaning it. It was not a good idea to switch it on after it got wet.

hi,
I'm really sorry 4 your jam, and also I'm not gonna tell you, how to clean it, but please tell me....
how can one manage to drawn it into coffee cup?
buzz

That's a bad news. I feel your pain. I ruined my Fujitsu P-2110 when my son spilt coffee on it. I was not present then, and my wife wiped out coffee and made a mistake to turn the laptop on.
Like kta suggested, I'd send it to service center. Otherwise, I think your JAM will develop more problem later on especially if the coffee had sugar in it.

 Gee.... you must be having a BIG cup of coffee !!

http://www.usablimp.com/images2/custom-(dunkin-coffee-cup).jpg
Same happened to my ipaq once with hot chocolate.
If you have no choice and you can't send it to service centre, I just opened mine up and wiped everything off with damp cloth, dabbing everything down. It's worked perfectly for years since then, no problems.
However, mine only got splashed, not dunked!

You could try feeding a donut through the sd card slot to soak up the coffee, this also works with croissants.

My Exec couldn't beat the drop

Woke up yesterday morning and found my Exec on the floor. It had apparently dropped two feet from the bedside table onto the hard wooden flooring.
To cut a long story short. It wouldn't switch on, wouldn't respond to soft or hard reset and I'll now have to send it back to O2. It can't be that fragile, can it?
impossible but depends on how hard your floor realy is. My xda exec nearly falls everyday as i use it as a bedside alarm clock. Althogh i do have carpet though.
Any obvious signs of impact? They may refuse to fix it if they can tell it's been neglected :-(

Thankfully it's been well taken care of. I should be fine on that front. With regards to the first reply, I wish you were right but it refuses to switch on at all, battery inserted, battery out, hard reset, soft reset, power button. And THEN I found that it will go through POST (or the PPC equivalent) where you see the O2 water drop if I take out the SD card, but will promptly switch itself off again. This is not repeatable.
So, it is possible, unfortunately.
I have thrown mine round our works car park on many occasion lol
and apart from a few scuffs is fine. supprised a fall from your bedside table killed it.
open up the device (you should find the service manual somewhere around the forums) and ensure everything is fine...
It is possible that one of your data connector cables might have just pulled off....

wizard inside pictures here / keyboard replacement

Hi,
As my wizard dropped in the water it got completely soaked.
I disassembled it to let it dry, see photos attached, put it together again and presto, almost everything works!!!
Just four keys of the keyboard do not work anymore, and as it all happened a week ago now I do not think this will be fixed.
Does anyone know if they do not work because of the water or because of the impact (the Wizard smashed on the street first)?
Has anybody ever fixed a faulty keypad?
Can anybody tell me where I can get a replacement keypad?
Let me know if you need instructions how to disassemble your wizard.
many thanks!
manhattan.
I have no answer to your question, but it is nice to see the inside of the wizard one time.
A couple of other people were asking about disassembly in other posts - so the instructions would probably be handy.
Hi,
I would love some complete instructions on dissasembly as I am about to take mine apart for painting and a hardware mod.
As far as the keyboard goes, you would be surpised how long they retain water, i doubt its a hardware problem, keyboard are pretty much solid state with only a tiny membrane for contacts. However it is this membrane that is most likely to be your problem, the contacts are very close together and covered in a film that can be verry attractive to water as it has rubber over it. So in essence I am saying I bet it is still wet in there, just a few droplets of condensation would do it.
Options, take it a apart and check and leave in a very warm dry place for a day, or II place whole wizard on a warm heater (not hot) for a while and see if that gets it.
T
Hi,
I also want to know the details of disassembly the wizard.
I think you had better post the instructions o disassembly here as I'm sure there are quite a few people who wuld like to know, me included.
Just a thought by looking at the picture (brave btw!)
Would it be possible to replace the 2,5mm headphone jack by an 3,5mm one and drill out a new hole for the larger connector?
Would be neat if you weren't so dependable on those stupid converters. Not a pretty sight anyway.
Thanks for sharing the photos.
I took mine apart some time ago to fix the stylist problem and when I put it back together some of the keys wouldnt work. The back light wouldnt work either. I found the problem was the little snap that secures the flat cable form the keyboard to the main board. There is a really small clasp that clicks down on the flat cable after you insert it into the connector. Once I took it back apart and snapped it, everything was normal again.
I plan on taking mine apart to change the keyboard form the English/arabic to just English, (anyone know where I can buy the keyboard/keys?) so any instructions you have will be appreciated.
Thanks
The stylii in the picture look like BA stylii.
Do I get 10 points?
will post instructions
OK guys I will put together the instructions and upload them here. I just have absolutely no time now so I hope you can wait a day or two....
Thanks for the comments. I am aware of the little lock that secures the mini flatcable that connects the keypad to the motherboard. I assume that is not the problem as I snapped it securely back in place.
I will try the heater suggestion, I suppose you mean to put the wizard in an oven set at let's say 50 degrees celsius?
The styluses in the photo are from my Qtek 2020. As the Wizard smashed I lost its stylus.... :-(
Sorry the photos do not show the display half of the wizard disassembled... I realised too late that others would benefit from pictures...
Cheers
Manhattan
I dont think I would put it in an oven. I would think that just inside a vehicle sitting in direct sunlight for a few hours would probably do, unless you are in a really cold climate. You may also try some electrical contact cleaner then get some additional heat to it after it evaportates. There is probably something that has trapped some moisture somewhere. Just for info, I dropped my Jamin the other night about 4 feet directly onto a tile floor. It bounced a couple times, ejected the SD card, and reset. But it is working fine. However, I had a bud that dropped his 2 day old Sony Ericsson P900 into water and dried it off immediatly and let it air dry. It worked, but he had problems ever since. It would drop calls and restart all the time. So there may not be a complete fix for it.
Good luck
Hey guys, someone posted the HTC Service manual for the Wizard!
In this manual you see pictures how to disassemble the phone!
It's realy the best manual to use for opening your mobile friend....
Good Luck

I've successfully fixed my girlfriends crappy creative keyboard once after water damage using a pencil. Depending how the keyboard is made, most of the time there will be really thin conductive tracks literally printed on the substrate. The water isn't particularly nice to these tracks and I found that in some parts there was noticale oxidation/corrosion. By very lightly scratching of the affeted paint and then going over it with a graphite pencil this did the trick.
Just an idea, personally I probably wouldn't do it to my vario but then again I'm still in the honeymoon phase with it.
Good luck
I fix phones for a living for many stores and have many phones that have water damage
what you dont do is charge it.. it will burn out the board
what you do is let it dry out, use the service manual and let it dry out in parts
then get white spirit and a toothbrush... dip it in and clean the contacts for yourk eys
once done, again let it try and then see how it goes. thats what i do, although we have a machine that sends out sonic pulses but the above method works too especially when im lazy

SD Card Slot Stopped working.

Hello lads,
I've got a problem, my SD Card Slot has stopped working.
I've tried another SD Card, i've tried soft-reset's, i've tried different WM6 ROM's, i've even found an original Orange ROM on the Prophet Wiki, and I still can't get it working.
Anybody got any idea's please ?
Thanks,
Ferret !
Yep, just keep waiting
Or you may want to try to keep it shutdown for a few days, mine began to work again (on its own....) after 4-5 days if I remember well, good luck
It seems to come back every so often - But then just locks the phone up when I try and access anything !
sorry, wrong forum
I had it working for abit - But now it's stopped again
BiG BlUFf
Got same problem here. Nothing we can do then? I've tried almost everything! I've even installed WM6, and no use.
I need my sd for the maps in the tt. dunno how I'm gonna work it out.

Exactly - I'm supposed to be driving about 400 miles in about 3 weeks time, so need to get it working.
HI!!!
hey! found a solution that worked, at least for me. I fully dissasembled the hole phone and took a look at it, and found that the problem was that the pins were dirty! Can you believe it? ****, so much work and that was the problem! So I got a fake sd card, the tipical that come with any phone or whatever but ar only made of plastic. I put some alcohol on it and put it in and out several times. Don't put to much alcohol or you can break something,ok? and tried the sd card then. It worked perfectly. I don't know if this will help, but I hope it does!
Please tell me if it works for you too,ok?
Good luck.
bye.
Ivan.

I tried cleaning them up with abit of tissue wrapped around that plastic SD card, but it doesn't seem to have worked.
I don't like the sound of putting alcohol inside the phone
Ok, I understand. But the truth is that the pins get dirty, and the alcohol cleans very well in first place, and evaporates very fast in the second. Give it a try, but only a couple of drops of alcohol. Really it worked for me.
bye.
I have heard that a small amount of alcohol used as loko suggested actually works. Good luck with getting it working again.
I think i've finally got it working - And not by using the alcohol drops.
I actually dropped it from about 3ft today, and all of a sudden, it's working again !
So next time it stop's working, I'll drop it again !
Jajajajajajajajaj
Ok.
I'll give it a try next time!!
That's a good one!
Still ain't got a working Storage Card - Anybody else experiencing this ? Or anyone fixed it ?
i have that problem too, my mmc (512MB) not detect. i'm using dopod 818, i had update rom, but still have that problem. someone have another solution than using alcohol???
Remember Nintendo?
Remember when you used to have to blow in Nintendo games to get them to work? Well, the same problem plagues the SD slot in the Prophet. I'd say 9 chances out of 10 is, your pins are dirty like loko says. He's also right about using Alcohol to clean them too! I would assume that you wouldn't put beer in your phone, but rubbing Alcohol is used to clean a lot of eletronic equipement especially where contact points are involved. I would be much more weary of putting tissues in there than Alcohol. I had the same problem, and solved it by blowing in the slot just like back in the day with Nintendo. (after flashing and reflashing for days, thinking it was a software problem) If you're afraid to get spit in there, you can get a can of compressed air from any good electronics store.
The alcohol didn't work either.
SD slot doesn't work
Try drinking it (the alcohol). At least it might make you feel better.
But seriously, I followed the advice to blow in the slot, and that worked for me.
drinking rubbing alcohol can make you blid or even kill you
i'd sugest crying over drinking that or better yet
getting some drinking alcohol
I think the s200 is a drunk PDA it may whant more give it whisky this time lollolo.
Now for serios try dissasemble e verify the conector is not so dificult there are a lot of manual´s were how to do it. The first day i buy my s200 i dissassenble it completly to clean and change cover because it came to me almost dying.

MDA DEAD!!!!!

Well ladies and jerks, I regret to inform you that my MDA is completely dead. I was in a car accident the other day and it went flying through the air and when I grabbed it off the floor of my car the USB charge plug was loose and had trouble connecting to the computer but still worked. Since then I had put a drop of super glue in there to hold the plug still and everything was fine untill this morning. My phone was left off with no battery in it untill the glue dried and still, everything was fine.
Now this morning when I went to grab my phone it was completely frozen and had 1% of battery life left so I soft reset and plugged the phone in and it was charging fine. I connected it to the computer and it would not connect at all. Now after playing with the cable a bit to get it to connect to the computer, the charge port is completely dead. It will not even let it charge with the charger and the little silver piece inside the plug is falling out.
Does anyone here have any idea what I should do to save my Wizard? I fear it may be the end for it.
Here's the big problem though. My device is CID unlocked and still has the TNT.1437 firmware on it so my warrenty is completely void. T-Mobile will not send me a handset exchange like this.
hi
t-mobile wouldn't send you a warranty replacement even if you had the official windows mobile on it. that is because, after you read the terms and conditions of the warranty, it does not include and in fact states quite clearly that 'excessive' use of the usb cable resulting in damaged charging port will not be replaced.
i realise this is not very helpful, so allow me to be helpful!
download the wizard service manual, if you PM me your email address i can email you a copy of one
what you will have to do is first obtain a new mini usb port from ebay or somewhere similar, i will try to hunt one down in america for you
following the service manual, you need to dismantle your handset, use some sort of rubbing alcohol (nail varnish remover) to get rid of the super glue you put on, first try to re-solder the old connector back onto where it came, or if not solder on the new one after removing the old one.
to be honest, you dont have anything to lose, but you could gain a working mda again!
good luck, and just a disclaimer to say im not responsible for any damage done to yourself, your device or anything else.

t-mobile will certainly wont give u warranty replacement. It happened with me once also and only way out was ,I took it to a mobile repair shop and got the usb connector replaced for very nominal price.
duke_stix is right, get a mini usb and solder it. If u can do it,very well or take it to a techy to do it properly.
Once it's repaired it will be as good as new, goodluck

Good advice except don't use rubbing alcohol, it damages plastic. Use adhesive remover instead. (At my hospital we use little adhesive remover wipes similar to the alcohol prep pads.) We are told to use this method when cleaning adhesives from plastics and it works.

Thanks. Have you had any luck trying to find a service manual? I have been looking but with no success...
Well I managed to find a wizard service manual written in English for the US and got my MDA taken apart correctly without damaging it(I hope) only to find that all 9 contacts for the USB port are completely severed. Unfortunately I don't have the soldering skills to fix this on my own and there are no local repair shops where I can get it fixed seeing as how I am also out of a car...(see first post) so I am back to a Razr... UGH.... Anyways, I will remain an active member of the community and continue to help others with issues they may be having and help others flash roms because I found that I enjoy helping others.
I will, however, be leaving for a period of time in a few months because I am being deployed and most likely will not be returning with a Wizard but an HTC TyTN II. Don't worry though, I won't forget my friends back here in the Wizard forum( I know too much about these things to just pack up and leave now...)
Hi
sry to hear that,
But just another idea popped in my mind,if u can manage to get mini usb port than u can take it to any electronics repair shop, like tv,radio or any pc repair shop,it can be soldered, since u say u have the service manual u can show them the circuit layout, they can fix it.
yet,if u happen to have any sort or make of mobile (Motorolla,Nokia, samsung) which is pretty old and spent,of which u got no use,c if it has a mini usb port, usually every mobile does have it,and it has 9 connectors, take it out and get it soldered to ur mda.
Well, since its gonner, there's no harn in trying,

First and Foremost,
Thank you sir, for answering the call of your nation. This American & his family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts.
In my ancestral culture's view, a patriot is second only to Saints & the Lord himself. May God watch over you & your team members.
I HAD to tell you that because every serviceman needs to know just how much Americans honor and cherish you!!!
(NEVER pay attention to the liberal media, they are sick diseased haters & hypocrites who are lucky to live in a land where they are allowed to lambast & denegrate those who are truly honorable.)
About your wizard, there are several ways to connect electronic components these days. If an adhesive was used, forget about it. If it was truly soldered, nothing can be easier! You can do it yourself (make sure to get a bulb vacuum for removing old solder and a modern soldering gun). It is so easy, in fact, that a authorized repair facility may do it for you for cheap! And you could always mail it to them, too.
Good Luck & God Speed dharvey4651.
similar problem?
My MDA will charge fine through the USB cable, but will not sync/connect -- it's not even appearing in Device Manager.
Does anyone know if this is definitely a hardware issue, presumably involving the USB port?
Thanks in advance,

System Fan Error (0000,04,02) - HELP WTF

As above.
Not cool at all
How do I fix it, the computer starts (Vista side), then goes to the American Megatrends screen and says "System Fan Error, The system will shut down after 60 seconds" (in RED - uncool).
Nothing seems broken. It all seems OK. Nothing except the normal cracking of the fan exhaust that we all know about.
HELP!
Sounds like it's telling you the internal fan has packed up.
Won't be too hard to find a replacement the correct size - or make a warranty claim.

OK. Except I am in PNG at the moment and will not be back to Australia until May (for 2 weeks only). HTC's not the most reliable for turn around
Hmmmm, not good at all.
I have sent a WTF to HTC also. We can see what happens.
I had same problem, with windows 7. 4 days ago...
But i did manage to boot from vista...(F3)
Just tried to F3 the Vista side. No joy. I suppose that means the fan is right royally screwed!
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm willing to try anything once!
Cheers
take out the batteri. for some time...
i dont know what i did but severel on and off and i then could boot with f3.
It may be som bug in windows7, i dont know.u are using win7 wrright??
I usually get this problem once a month and my "solution" is to drop the shift about 1 meter above my bed so it lands softly. After five-ten drops it usually starts working again. Maybe the fan get's stuck or something, I dont know but it usually work
My keyboard wasnt working when it happened (check this on wm side), if soo u cant press F3.
Sorry about my bad english, cant explain better.
OK - Its working again - Next Problem
So, this morning, as a bit of a hope, I try the thing again.
AND IT WORKS
YAH
Must have got knocked in my bag and got "unstuck", which is great.
Next problem - I will be back in Australian for 2 weeks in about a week. Does anyone know the fan type and/or make so I can take it to a shop and get it fixed.
PS - Sent an email to HTC. The issue has been sent to a senior tech. I have told them it works and have requested the fan type/make and instructions for replacement (and explained my location situation). Lets see how that goes.
The thing is still technically in warranty, but I am not going to have enough time to send it to HTC, wait for them to look at it and then get it back. I am only going to be in Aust for 2 weeks, not 2 months (OK, that was a bit harsh - sorry HTC )

System Fan Error - SOLVED SOLUTION
Hi guys!
I've seen that this post is almost dead, but if anybody would encurr in this problem as we did, it could be nice to find even the solution in this thread, isn't it?
I thought of a software problem, first, but the "pc" side didn't allow me to get into the bios.. it just said "system will shut down in 60 seconds"..
therefore I opened the shift (I've used this guide: htt p://mikechannon. net/PDF%20Manuals/HTC_CLIO_SM_A05_(GENERIC)_08_Apr.p df), once removed the back cover, I simply disconnected and reconnected the fan connector (power), without touching anything else.
before assembling the device back again I tried to switch it on and so I did after connecting the keyboard (before pushing it completely in the case) in order to check that the connections were correctly done.
NOTE: if you want the screws to stay black, instead of losing their colour while screwing and unscrewing them, you can put a piece of latex glove (the thin ones) between screw and screwdriver..
Hope this might help other people..
bye bye,

solution
I had this fan issue many times with Ubuntu and then with win 7...
I usually tap on the back with my hand (to the location where the fan is located) twice or thrice and the Fan comes up ..
I did open it once and tried to clean the fan by blowing air into it ...
But the dust have stuck on the blades , thinking of re opening and cleaning the fan blades with ear buds...
Let me give it a try and will report back..
my theory of fan problem is it gets stuck due to dust and once cleaned should work fine ,
I got the same problem every time I boot my Shift. I just power off and on for 2 or 3 time and the computer can boot to window.
- I think it is the fan problem or
- the stay in cool so did not run
- the dust inside the fan makes it does not run simetime
One time I opened it and disconnect the fan cable but still the same problem.
I plan to Change a hard drive because every I start it said SMART Capable and Bad. I look the forum said my hard drive is bad and will stop some day.
If my hard drive change can silve these both problem (SMART BAD and Fan Error) I will report you all here.
or anyone have comment on these. I will receive all you idea and try to solve with my shift.
Thanks.
its too easy to fix
