Ciao, I am Valerio.
Perhaps you can help me, I have a Magician , and I would like to connect an USB webcam to the Magician without the PC, just 1 XDA Magician and 1 extern USB webcamera.
I did not find anything on the net.
DO you think that it is possible?
Thanks in advance!
Valerio
NOone can solve it?
I am not an so expert like you xda expert, but someone could solve the problem.
I read in this forum somone reach to connect an external USB HHD to the Magician. Then I suppose that it should be possible to connect a webcam. But how? None of you are able to solve the "Rebus"?
I thought that you are "expert"
Please solve it!
if you can cook a WM6 ROM for my Magician, As a return favour, I will solve ur USB problem
It simply cannot be done.
Initially I thought you wanted to use the camera on the Magician as a webcam as you have it connected to a computer ... that can probably be done.
But you can't connect an external device to the USB port on the Magician and expect it to be able to control it. The driver doesn't exist. Not to mention, the PDA also won't be able to power the webcam through the USB port.
You have better luck if you find a BT webcam and connect it via BT instead. Still, I am not sure what the point is ... you already have a camera on the phone you can take short video clip with. If you want to do live streaming video the phone doesn't even support EDGE (only GPRS) so the data rate will never support it.

Whos the "you", you are refering to? you seems to be talking to air. And, get your proof right, you can't connect a Magician to an external USB Hdd.
Oh, I'm the newbie, I can't float on air, but you the export, so must be able to float on air. I've read somewhere that people can float on water, so you must be able to float on air.
Please guys, relax a little.
The magician (as most HTC phones) do not support the USB host function. Also the USB connector is only USB client.
You can use the built-in cam for messenger on your PC though.
Or as survelliance camera is you have wifi ;O)
Lx Cam
Cheers

Dear member of the group.
I read on the forum in a past post that someone connected a Magician to an HDD.
It was a replay to a post about WM2005 on Magician. Someone said that he was not able to install it but it reaches to connect an external HDD.
Anyway, answering to your posts, I would like to advise that about powering the external devices it is possible in my case because I could manifacture an ad-hoc usb cable with external power supply for the magician and the webcam.
It is "only" a driver problem or it is an hardware problem that an USB client miss some component that makes it not possible operating as host.
If It is a driver problem, perhaps some "gurus" could help us.
I tell you that I would many new very attractive feature if it would be possible.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not quite understand about the Hdd part of your post. However, I presume you meant that this guy is not able to use the Ext-Hdd even though he has already connected to the phone, right? That's quite surprise to be that the 'connection' didn't burn off his phone. You can connect everything to anything, and the reason device designers make millions types of sockets and plugs, it to avoid users from pluggin something that arent' suppose to do so. e.g., you can modify a wire and plug your USB and plug it into a 240V AC wall out-let (DO NOT try this at home, just an example) and attempt to charge the phone from 0 to 100 in less than a minute?
</rant>
Anyway, for your question, it is a hardware problem. You'll need a host controller for any device to able to host any USB stuff. Google for it.
It can be done...
...altough not as a really usable webcam, Coolcamera can display on the pc what the CMOS is looking.

I have just bought a usb Wifi dongle, and a Mini to USB socket.
The whole lot was only £20.
I thought it was worth giving it a go, but so far having no luck.
Anybody any ideas? reasons why it wont work? how it could work?
Cheers
I think the problem might be that neither the Magician nor the dongle has USB host capabilities.
I have heard that all Windows 2003 SE devices have USB host capabilities (mass storage drivers rigth?).
Check this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15453

All WM2003 SE devices with USB host capabilities have mass storage drivers, making it possible to connect an external USB drive. As far as I know (which is also said in the thread you refer to) the hardware of the Magician does not have USB host capabilities.
mmh, i don't think you need a special chip to do the host-usb.
it's all a matter of drivers i think, since you can communicate from/to the pda using usb (like active sync)

Active sync works because the PC has the ability to act as a USB host.
From a USB perspective the Magician (and I think all of HTCs PPC phone devices?) acts just like any other dumb USB device. Like a mouse, or a Bluetooth dongle. And just like you will not be able to pair a USB mouse to a BT dongle to get a BT mouse you can not get the Magician to pair with another non host USB device.

Hi all,
yesterday my Universal fell from the table on the ground, and it fell directly onto the USB cable connector, which was plugged into the device at the moment. So now, the USB port on my Universal is acting pretty weird, it moves from side to side and it accepts the charger cable only under a very specific angle, so it is pretty difficult to plug the charger cable in correctly. I am going to get it repaired soon, but I want to backup my data first. The problem is, that the broken USB doesn't let me connect the device to my PC, as even if the status LED lights up as if it was connected and charging, I get the "device not recognised" error on my computer. Does anyone have an idea that could help me please? Thanks a lot in advance,
Longlife

I would say download the trial version of Spb backup, and copy the CAB installer to your SD-card via an card reader on the PC. This way you don't need the USB connection. You can make a self-extractable full backup, just make sure that you have the same ROM installed before restoring. I hope this helps .
oh then get it fixed lol
i paid £10 for mine to be fixed (came straight off main board) from a local phone repairers

Yeah, I'm going to get it fixed for sure but I don't want to risk losing my data if the mechanic did a hard reset or something.
Same problem, without the fall
My USB connector started acting up a couple of days ago. It's strange, because I dropped it once, but worked fine afterwards. Now, I need to jiggle the cable aruond for a bit before it actually makes contact
What do you think, how long does it take for them to fix it in a repair shop. Could I possibly wait for it to be finished?
I would suggest getting a Universal Battery Mobile Charger to charge the battery and a USB bluetooth adapter for the computer to sync.
Then if you decide to get it fixed just make sure it's from a reputable repair center. After the repair, I still suggest using the mobile Charger and USB dongle to charge and sync to lessen the stress on miniusb. Goodluck!
Reputable it will be! The T-Mobile shop I purchased it at!
And how long do you think it will take for them to fix it(the repair shop is right in the back of the store...)?
Four days ago, I took the phone to a one of a very few QTEK services in the Czech Republic and they promised to make me an price offer of the repair. They sent me an e-mail yesterday, and the price was..14,026 CZK, which is about 500 EUR accoridng to today's rates. They said that the whole motherboard needed to be replaced, because one part of it had been nicked. Anyway, I bought the phone on ebay for about 400 EUR and I am not really going to pay such a huge amount of money for the repair (I can get a brand new Universal for this price..or even cheaper). Do you think it's possible that the service was either mistaken or lied to me to make a higher profit? And, if a part of the motherboard really is snapped off, do you think it would be possible to fix it somehow? Thanks a lot,
Longlife

Thanks, if I don't manage to get it fixed (see my last post) I'll probably do that. btw, I didn't see a BT connection option in my ActiveSync (and I think I have the latest version), do I need a special plugin or a different piece of software for the sync? Thanks,

If you want to use BT to sync, you'll need to map virtual serial ports to your adapter(this can be usually done from within the adapter's program, like BlueSoleil), and the configure ActiveSync to accept connections from that port. Afterwards, you need to start ActiveSync on your MDA, and select "Connect via Bluetooth", and voilá.
The catch is, you can't sync music this way. But that might be the smallest of your worries

Hi,
Can you please explain how to do it in BlueSoleil?
I have BlueSoleil (legal), and I've been reading, and trying everything, for hours, without success.
I've managed to get a bt connection between my laptop and my Universal, and one of the available service is indeed ActiveSync. And I can see AS trying to connect, when I click on "Connect via Bluetooth" in my PPC. But then it just stops, and my Uni says it didn't find a partnership with ActiveSync.
Any help, please?
TIA

Initially you have to open a COM port for the Bluetooth Serial Settings..and then when you open the COM port (like COM 5 or something), go to active sync Connections Settings and then check "Allow connections to following" and then choose the COM port of the Bluetooth Serial Settings (like COM 5 depending on what COM port you put the BT serial settings).
This might buy you some time till prices go down and you could have it repair for lower price.
GOODLUCK!

Sorry no flashing via bluetooth only via USB. Not sure though if you can do it via SD if somebody builds an image of the ROM you want in SD then use that but not familiar with it on Universal.
Hello
I hqd the same problem happening to me : the connection between the mini USB and the motherboard were severed. I used stripping wire to redo the connections, and hot glue to make sure they don't break again.
You can certainly do the same. Please tell me if you need a spare mini USB connector to replace your broken one (got one ! you can also find one in any cheap USB reader)

Hi,
could somenone please try the video out cable from the HTC Touch Pro?
What happens when you insert the cable?
Thanks in advance!
I'm waiting for my touch HD, should arrive end of the week!
Bye!
+1 on this request! Even if it doesn't work out of the box i bet we could figure out how to make it work by extracting the functionality out of diamond rom.....
It has been tested on Winmo.nl
The result:
Nothing happens.
Besides that, HTC has already said the used hardware is _not_ capable of providing a TV-Out signal. It will not happen for the HD.

Or, which might be easier to read for anyone not Dutch around here:
As you can see above, at the bottom of the Touch HD is the standard HTC ExtUSB-connector. This port is used for charging the device and connecting it to a PC (USB). Unfortunately, the HD does not support TV-Out. When plugging the HTC AC T110 TV-Out cable in to the device... nothing happens.

something is always missing to get the perfect HTC!
They will never make the perfect device, its not in their intrests to do so.
It will always be missing this or that or on a different model.
i would like someone to crack open a Touch Pro and see if there is a diferent chip, i think there will be, i doubt it will intigrated in to the main chipset which is why HTC dont advertise these phones as having TV out.
anyone else think it could of also been the software missing so thats why it didnt work. vga out aint a matter or just a cable. it involves software to turn on the output etc..

I tend to agree here....could be a software issue...we've seen htc do these things in the past...same chipset, crippled feature for no good reason!!!
this was the #1 feature that i was looking for in the HD
I did not know that Raphael has TV out ! .... and not in HD
I agree, there will be no perfect HTC ...
No TV-Out, no big problem. Put a Media Receiver (I use Pinnacle Showcenter 250HD) on your christmas wish list (from 175$). It enables you to bring all media content from devices that can join a WLAN to your TV, in HD quality. Ok, maybe its not the quick fix to present media content from your phone outside of your home, but it covers you at home.
I have the cable and the HD, and yes nothing happend
It works with the HTC Touch Pro so maybe with the the touch Pro software it will work too in the HD.
someone has the software?
Trinity was released without neither the GPS being operational, nor mentioned in the manuals. I even bought a BT GPS external receiver! Yet it has been my best navigation assistant over almost 3 years.
So you can not take for granted anything in the HTC world.....
And yes, I ordered one of those Tv-out cables for the Raphael, tried on my HD and nothing happened.
So, I’ve a trinity and when I plug the cable, the computer don’t detect the HTC, I’ve windows Vista but I’ve tried on XP too.
The HTC charges but isn’t detected by the computer :s
Thanks

Try disabling fast data synchronization on your HTC Phone.
Clear the checkbox on Settings-> Connections -> USB To PC
Are you using the mini usb default cable (that came with your phone)? Some cables do not lead power correctly, just in case.

I don't find that, the only option there is "Enable advanced network funcionality" :s
I think that is the original one, but I am not sure. The phone charges, could the problem be the cable?
Sorry for my English
Your english is just perfect.
Sorry about that, i use WM6.5, so the name must be mistaken... you are right, that's the functionality i was talking about... sometimes, it makes impossible to connect to ActiveSync...
A friend of mine got the same problem with Touch HD... it charges, but no ActiveSync... just changed the cable, and it was fine... Just to make sure it wasn't the same problem.
Could you also check mini usb plug on your phone? I also got a bent pin that made it impossible to update Roms... But it would charge also... you should have 5 metal pins separated from each other about 1/2 mm...
LOL the problem was the cable, it's working now!!!
I just have changed the cable!
Thank you all!
I'm looking for info on hu based on this board. It seems pretty rare although I know of at least 4 "manufacturers" that use it. I'm just starting this thread to be a place holder for any knowledge or questions about it.
Personally I'd love a pinout diagram and any help getting both the USB ports to work at the same time.
I have the same issue on my 9" "Android 10" ( Oreo ) Ts7 Topway Head unit, Currently I have a touch screen issue not working in any way ( either a .bin file gone missing or a dead touch screen ) Although it was working well before something changed. Currently I can only operate it with a corded mouse and cannot get the USB posts 1 & 2 to work at the same time, to use a keyboard or test playing off a USB, or loading repair files via the 2nd USB port. When I change the port in one way or another I lose use of the initial port. I has actually browsing to see If I can use a USB hub to expand use of the one port I have access on to fix my problems, when I saw your post. Vendor has not been very useful and slow to react and in a different time zone. Have you had any luck with your unit ?

Hi there. I have the TS7 based head unit SP-7069. It Is 1 GB RAM / 16 GB FLASH. No SD card...Two USB (single link) - no buttons - no external MIC support (I have external MIC, connected instead of the internal one) and...one BAD thing - FM radio WITHOUT RDS support in the system/radio app. Problems are: only one USB working at one time - and if you have a front camera and DAB+ receiver (which I started to use due to RDS/station names etc) , only one of them is working and kill each other. You are not able to connect some USB flash with music or the phone through USB - no other USB ports.
I tried to use USB HUB, but that looks that there is no support for USB HUB in the kernel/fw implemented. (sometimes it found FLASH USB, which was connected to the HUB, but the second FLASH USB or mouse,DAB+ etc, was not recognized ((twice yes)), and the system almost every time stop working until the USB HUB was unplugged.
Does somebody know what to do for USB HUB working? Or some RDS radio app, which is working?
I have FW version:V12.1.1_20210329.133820_TW11 and if i try to use Check for update of the system, it closes the update app only...and nothing happened!
I tried to "check for updates" in the advanced menu, and it find "Current version: com.tw.carchoose_3f18_00_200408"...."Updated version: com.tw.carchoose_3f18_00_210928" and after some second it say "Download completed is being updated"....and do nothing. If I try to use the check for an update...it says the same...current 200808 and updated ver 210928....nothing changed.
Does somebody have the same radio head unit? It is not bad, but RadioApp without RDS and bad USB support is horrible. =o/.

Hi. And what about the internal mic? Did you disconnect him somehow? I disconnected it and soldered the terminals to the JACK connector instead. It is working perfectly.
And sorry for the question: which FM receiver chip do you have inside your TS7? My SP-7069 has some "four in one" without RDS and I never found which type is inside that "four in one" exactly. The board inside is TOPWAY TS7-A120LP2B-V4.
If I try to check it by the system setting - there is one value: "radio: TEF..." - and nothing more... the font is too big to see the whole value it..that's mean that there is a possibility that it is: TEF6624/21 or TEF6657, TEF6686 or TEF685x - that type I am able to choose from the list, System version is V12.1.1_20210329.133820_TW11.
