Hi,
could somenone please try the video out cable from the HTC Touch Pro?
What happens when you insert the cable?
Thanks in advance!
I'm waiting for my touch HD, should arrive end of the week!
Bye!
+1 on this request! Even if it doesn't work out of the box i bet we could figure out how to make it work by extracting the functionality out of diamond rom.....
It has been tested on Winmo.nl
The result:
Nothing happens.
Besides that, HTC has already said the used hardware is _not_ capable of providing a TV-Out signal. It will not happen for the HD.

Or, which might be easier to read for anyone not Dutch around here:
As you can see above, at the bottom of the Touch HD is the standard HTC ExtUSB-connector. This port is used for charging the device and connecting it to a PC (USB). Unfortunately, the HD does not support TV-Out. When plugging the HTC AC T110 TV-Out cable in to the device... nothing happens.

something is always missing to get the perfect HTC!
They will never make the perfect device, its not in their intrests to do so.
It will always be missing this or that or on a different model.
i would like someone to crack open a Touch Pro and see if there is a diferent chip, i think there will be, i doubt it will intigrated in to the main chipset which is why HTC dont advertise these phones as having TV out.
anyone else think it could of also been the software missing so thats why it didnt work. vga out aint a matter or just a cable. it involves software to turn on the output etc..

I tend to agree here....could be a software issue...we've seen htc do these things in the past...same chipset, crippled feature for no good reason!!!
this was the #1 feature that i was looking for in the HD
I did not know that Raphael has TV out ! .... and not in HD
I agree, there will be no perfect HTC ...
No TV-Out, no big problem. Put a Media Receiver (I use Pinnacle Showcenter 250HD) on your christmas wish list (from 175$). It enables you to bring all media content from devices that can join a WLAN to your TV, in HD quality. Ok, maybe its not the quick fix to present media content from your phone outside of your home, but it covers you at home.
I have the cable and the HD, and yes nothing happend
It works with the HTC Touch Pro so maybe with the the touch Pro software it will work too in the HD.
someone has the software?
Trinity was released without neither the GPS being operational, nor mentioned in the manuals. I even bought a BT GPS external receiver! Yet it has been my best navigation assistant over almost 3 years.
So you can not take for granted anything in the HTC world.....
And yes, I ordered one of those Tv-out cables for the Raphael, tried on my HD and nothing happened.

Ciao, I am Valerio.
Perhaps you can help me, I have a Magician , and I would like to connect an USB webcam to the Magician without the PC, just 1 XDA Magician and 1 extern USB webcamera.
I did not find anything on the net.
DO you think that it is possible?
Thanks in advance!
Valerio
NOone can solve it?
I am not an so expert like you xda expert, but someone could solve the problem.
I read in this forum somone reach to connect an external USB HHD to the Magician. Then I suppose that it should be possible to connect a webcam. But how? None of you are able to solve the "Rebus"?
I thought that you are "expert"
Please solve it!
if you can cook a WM6 ROM for my Magician, As a return favour, I will solve ur USB problem
It simply cannot be done.
Initially I thought you wanted to use the camera on the Magician as a webcam as you have it connected to a computer ... that can probably be done.
But you can't connect an external device to the USB port on the Magician and expect it to be able to control it. The driver doesn't exist. Not to mention, the PDA also won't be able to power the webcam through the USB port.
You have better luck if you find a BT webcam and connect it via BT instead. Still, I am not sure what the point is ... you already have a camera on the phone you can take short video clip with. If you want to do live streaming video the phone doesn't even support EDGE (only GPRS) so the data rate will never support it.

Whos the "you", you are refering to? you seems to be talking to air. And, get your proof right, you can't connect a Magician to an external USB Hdd.
Oh, I'm the newbie, I can't float on air, but you the export, so must be able to float on air. I've read somewhere that people can float on water, so you must be able to float on air.
Please guys, relax a little.
The magician (as most HTC phones) do not support the USB host function. Also the USB connector is only USB client.
You can use the built-in cam for messenger on your PC though.
Or as survelliance camera is you have wifi ;O)

Dear member of the group.
I read on the forum in a past post that someone connected a Magician to an HDD.
It was a replay to a post about WM2005 on Magician. Someone said that he was not able to install it but it reaches to connect an external HDD.
Anyway, answering to your posts, I would like to advise that about powering the external devices it is possible in my case because I could manifacture an ad-hoc usb cable with external power supply for the magician and the webcam.
It is "only" a driver problem or it is an hardware problem that an USB client miss some component that makes it not possible operating as host.
If It is a driver problem, perhaps some "gurus" could help us.
I tell you that I would many new very attractive feature if it would be possible.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not quite understand about the Hdd part of your post. However, I presume you meant that this guy is not able to use the Ext-Hdd even though he has already connected to the phone, right? That's quite surprise to be that the 'connection' didn't burn off his phone. You can connect everything to anything, and the reason device designers make millions types of sockets and plugs, it to avoid users from pluggin something that arent' suppose to do so. e.g., you can modify a wire and plug your USB and plug it into a 240V AC wall out-let (DO NOT try this at home, just an example) and attempt to charge the phone from 0 to 100 in less than a minute?
</rant>
Anyway, for your question, it is a hardware problem. You'll need a host controller for any device to able to host any USB stuff. Google for it.
It can be done...
...altough not as a really usable webcam, Coolcamera can display on the pc what the CMOS is looking.
i'm pretty sure the answer's gonna be 'no' but;
can this touch pro tv out cable be used on the touch cruise, i'm assuming not but anyone know if this be hardware and drivers/software or just drivers/software, in which case can we get the appropriate software/drivers from a dumped rom and adapt?
cheers
(sorry for posting accessory query here, but there's hardly any viewers in there!)
YES
Well the Pro has the same Input as TC, so it should be not a Problem to use.
You dont need any special Software, but the Device you want to connect should have Plug&Play Support to recognize the TC.
And if no Plug & Play Support on the TV, you will defitly need a Driver for that, but every new TV has the P&P Support. I dont think that you use a 10 Years old TV

Erm... you've got UDK r9??
are you sure, only you're saying that because the connectors are the same it will, but the touch pro has the same mini usb connector as many devices/predecessors such as TC P3650 and ARTEMIS P3300 but only the latest edition - the pro - is shown on the htc site as having tv out. also
you don't sound as though you're speaking from having tried it first hand.
sorry it's just the cable costs 15-20GBP which is a fair whack if it doesn't

TC has same input as PRO?
We are talking about output here and just about every HTC phone I have used has the 11 pin mini usb plug, so does that mean every HTC has TV out?
If that is the case why has HTC not release the cable before?

Not too mention modern Motorola phones as well as many peripherials, and I don't think it would be smart to assume they have TV out as well when paired with this cable.
anyone with an excess of cash (i.e. rich) - buy a cable and try it please!
Hey guys,
I want to know what is possible with our USB-Connector.
What does it support/not support? (Host-Controller, driver...)
How is it build up? (beside the specs in the Wiki)
I'm happy with all helpful answers!

usb
It's a mini ext USB and dispite the bumff from HTC will work with any ext mini USB device.
My friends got a USB charger for his car , this works fab in our phones.. have a look in teh interweb , as long as it's gto our connecter it will work .. ( however there are some issues with poliarity as some of the pins are set up diffrently ..
I searched the internet about this topic (because forum search seems to be a bit crappy )
So I found a thread about USB-Host in Touch HD.
Now my question:
Is there a possibility to use the Touch HD as USB-Host device or is our Touch HD just a pure Client?
I thought about a mouse or external Harddisk. But if there is no Host-Controller, it's impossible
PS: I just found some thread about this topic (search funtion is weird finds "usb host" but nothing with "usb")
So from what I see, there is no host capability with our Touch HD?
Nobody tried Zeno driver?
There is an old 3D about HD USBHost: you could search.
HD has Host capability by chip but extUSB lacks of output power: serch 3D to confirm that
D'rath
Many thanks D'rath, that mainly what i want to hear
I think it's possible to bypass the lack of power by an Y-Cable or something like that. If not, i'm going to solder it together
Lets hope it works
I tried it
But I got bad news so far
Just soldered a USB cable together, so power supply is provided and I installed Zeno USB Host Drivers to get mouse support.
But it didn't worked
Just got the popup with "New USB Mouse" but nothing more.
Maybe there is some hope, that it will work, but I didn't get it to work.

Did you try using a flashdrive and see if it gets recognized ? I'll be interested in that.
I have just flashed a new ROM and I'm experimenting a bit.
But i try to test it in the next days, if I find the time
By the way, my car is rusting and i got little time because I gotta repair all the **** >.<
Is reading on the HTC homepage about HD2 specs.
I need one and was wondering about two things.
Does anyone know if standard microUSB means we can connect micro usb
stuff to the phone if we only have the right drivers?
I can think of two accessoars id would like to connect-
-USB handsfree from touch PRO
-some kind of TV out-cable
And there is one question about the digital compass.
will it be like the one that is on the marked now, were you dont have to
have GPS connected?
ps. when will HD get an own section on XDA? after all it is official and all now, and would be better to know were to post this kind of questions. ds.

Straight up, before we even start talking about drivers, there's no way you would be able to phsically connect accessories from the Touch Pro to the HD2 as the Touch Pro is miniUSB and the HD2 microUSB.

Er, I don't quite understand. What do you mean 'like the one that is on the marked now'?
But I can tell you this, a digital compass has nothing at all to do with GPS. The two are completely different.

We have a magnet on TouchHD, why not a compass?
Hi,
Hats off to all the senior friends who are making lives easy for so many of us
I have a very simple question. The stylus which the company gives with the Touch HD is a magnet. Why can't we have a digital compass using it?
Hope it makes sense
hi
i dont know if this has been covered (the search didnt find anything relevant)
is there a hack / way for video or tv out on this device??
thanks

I am also interested by that.
Any ideas?
Basically, I would like to know if TV out is possible to connect it to my car entertainment device that I am planning to buy :
Din 1, 7 inch with DVD, GPS, Bluetoth, USB.
This will transform this device to a mobile device with a large screen from where I can surf, chat, play games etc...(launch all apps from the HTC HD2)
Any ideas?
It's not possible. Sorry, but it really is that simple.
Thanks for the answer.
Is this because of the harware that does not support it or is it because there is no driver developped by HTC?
i really think thats a driver problem only Maybe there is a way to stream video signal over wifi or bluetooth? it's kinda strange thing to do but i think it's possible using a software?
I read in a forum that via the 3,5mm jack it might be possible to video out (it was for another phone).
If Hardware does not support it via micro USB, we are stuck I guess,
If it is a driver issue, xda gurus might develep one,
If micro USB does not support it, what about the 3,5 mm jack?
I am not an expert at all, but I am just brainstorming...
Any thoughts?
This is the message I got rom HTC Support
Thank you for your enquiry about HTC HD2
To answer question 1 and 2, the HD2 does not support video out as it does not have a built in video out socket nor would you be able to achieve this via the 3,5mm jack.
It is not a built in function to handle this via bluetooth I could only suggest you try to look up some 3rd party program, but I could not provide support for this.
Best regards,
Dennis
HTC
Well actually, the HD2 does support video out! Using myMobiler you can display in full screen on your PC what's going on on your HD2. And if in turn, you connect your PC to your TV you could also watch your HD2 on your 50'' Full HD TV screen
OK, I'm joking here, the quality would be terrible, but still, it goes to show that it's possible to have video come out from the micro USB port and be displayed on a much larger screen, so maybe someone will go one step further!

Mon pot
I basically wanted to connect my HD2 to a Car Entertaniement device which has a 7 inch touch-screen, 'genre auto-radio', (7 ' Din1, DVD, GPS, Bluetooth, USB) in order to take advantage of all features/applications from the HTC (Google maps, dictionnaires, enclyclopedia, 3G, opera, chat etc).
Mymobiler will not help at all.
The HTC Touch Pro supports the video-out; The HTC DH2 does not support it as it is now. I have seen on http://wmpoweruser.com/ a guy making a video out cable for this LG eXpo. Check the video. Why can't we do it?
It shouldn't be difficult to make a video out cable...
Via a redfly?
If you were really committed, you could grab a Celiocorp Redfly, wait until they release the HD2 driver, then use the media cable to output to video...
Then, for the transmission of the video, you could use either bluetooth or micro-USB.
So it's technically possible with the right hardware...
The closest thing you'll get to TV out on the HD2 is the ability to set it as a media server, but that will require some kind of media browser client. I've done this with my PS3 and a Nokia N95, but the software is currently under development for the WM platform.
See here...
http://mobileosgi.blogspot.com/2009/08/dlna-media-server-for-smart-phones.html
Incidentally, they use a PS3 on the demo video, but that is not required. Also, you can use this to stream video, not just pictures.
problem is
phones that output through the 3.5 jack have an extra connector inside the socket to carry the image channel so there is no way to adapt a standard 3.5 output to carry video regardless of software. (not taking mine apart to look if its 2 or 3 chanel of course hehe)
as for through the usb im less sure but i'd guess it would only be able to send to host devices and not client peripherals. course, I'd be more than happy to be told otherwise.

The processor has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not the device can output video. It needs specific hardware to do this and it is not included in this device, neither through the USB port or the 3.5mm jack socket.
It is 100% impossible to implement a "fix" for this with software because the device simply does not have the hardware required.
Actually, Snapdragon processors DO support TV-Out. The Acer s200 (neo touch) and Toshiba TG01 both run on Snapdragon and support TV-Out. What I think the problem is, is that the hardware is there, but HTC just haven't implemented it. Meaning that they simply have not connected the function. Which is actually a shame as this was the only thing the pushed me away from this spectacular device and choose the Omnia B7610 instead, because it is a better all round device.

You need a lot more than just processor support for TV out functionality, so the hardware is not there. Some of it is, but only 1 small part.
Exactly! That's why I was disappointed with the HD2. Seeing as Acer and Tosh both implemented the tv out functionality from the core, why didn't HTC do the same? Surely it wouldn't cost them THAT much more would it?
As far as I understand, this is a hardware related issue and not driver related? If it is driver related, I am sure one day this driver would be coded and made available in this forum.
I was palnning to video out to my car DVD entertainment touch screen device in order to be able to use google maps, opera, dictionnaries etc..
This plan will ne be feasible then...
You can use the hd2 as an usb-stick. With that function i can view movies and listen to music on my Alpine touchscreen radio.
