Orange SPV M3100 / HSPDA - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

All
After much trial and testing....Unless anyone knows different
The Orange SPV M3100 in its standard form does NOT display a H symbol when using HSPDA and there is no way of finding out if it does so..
I am using the latest ROM update from the Orange site..but no other mods have taken place onto the machine...
Can anyone confirm or deny further ?
Darren

HSDPA also needs to be provisioned by the carrier, are you POSITIVE that HSDPA is enabled or even present on your orange account? If they are anything like O2 they might only offer HSDPA on business accounts.

pretty sure i have it enabled..
Just wondered about other SPV M3100 in the UK ?
darrem

My understanding of Orange UK is that HSDPA would work if the cell-base had it enabled. I'm not aware of any restrictions as per T-Mobile and O2.

a question then for any SPV M3100...How do you know you are using HSPDA ?
Any screenshots from a Orange device or Vodafone device ?
Thanks all

One way to check HSDPA is to run a speed test by running DSL Reports in your Hermes browser:
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
Works on a PC as well as a speed check if you pick higher file sizes.
On your Hermes:
speed
300-400 kbps = UTMS
500+ = HSDPA
You can also double check with Field Test available for download on the Wiki along with manual:
Field Test: Hermes Engineering mode

Unlocking to enable orange

I have managed to unlock my sx 56 from at&t using xda's software. Great. Trouble is it only enabled me to use O2 in the UK, i then went to yorch.net and downloaded more software which enabled vodafone and O2. Better. But I was wondering how I could unlock it so all networks worked. Can anyone give me a hand?

What you'll find is that there were two versions of the XDA (AKA...). One which was sold in Europe and ran on 900 and 1800Mhz frequencies, and one which ran on 900 and 1900Mhz frequencies, and was sold in the US (SX56, MDA, etc).
You may or may not know that Orange UK runs solely on 1800Mhz (as does T-Mobile), and as such you'll find your version to be incompatible with these networks... Sorry.
Although this device is from the states, I have found the option of using it oat 900 gsm or 900 / 1800 gsm or solely 1800 gsm. Does this mean that I may be able to use orange ?

Although it might give you this option, I believe that the radio hardware inside it is designed only for 900/1900mhz. I guess you could try and put an Orange SIM in, in an area where you know there to be coverage, and see if it works. It is unlikely to work on Orange or T-Mobile.
Let us know either way, cheers
I have tried my sim in an area I know there to be coverage. It just comes up as no signal. Since going through the site I'm thinking of getting a serial cable and using manipulator although its a little ambiguous about whether this will work. One company reckons they can do it but if what you say is correct then they'll be waisting their time and my money.
It might be easier to swap providers!
Beini, if your phone is 900/1900 it will not work on Orange which is 1800.
O2 XDA RUNNING ON ORANGE NETWORK FINE NO CONNECT TO INTERNET
Thanks guys for showing me how unlock my 02 XDA so I can phone out. But I just cant get it to connect to the internet - can anyone help me?
I dont have the option for 1800 (Baud Rate)
i suppose the getting access to the internet is going to be impossible...??
How do I configure it to atleast work for WAP?

How do I know if I'm using HSDPA or not?

Newbie here.
I have a 838 Pro and have subscribed to Hong Kong's "3" 3G/HSDPA plan. The icon only reade UMTS on the phone. How do I know if the phone is using HSDPA during data traffic or not? I have goten 400kbps out of it (from Spb traffic monitor), is this HSDPA speed? If not, do I need to call "3" to activate HSDPA (if there's such a thing)?
BTW, I've already used Hermes Tweaker 1.1a to enable HSDPA.
Thanks in advance.

SPV M700 and HSDPA in PAris

Hi everyone,
Orange France say that the HSDPA is open in Paris and suburbs.
A few month ago I've made some HSDPA test with a PCMCIA HSDPA car and I was having some incredible speed (about 1Mbit/sec) in Boulogne-Billancourt (wich was the experimental coverage).
This week-end I take my Trinity in Boulogne and when I take a look to the fieldtest program HSDAP tab, the CQI was >than 0.
But when I try the speed access, the max I've got was about 112KBit/sec.
So If I believe the speed test I'm in the average of the 3G access and if I believe the FielTest Program I should be in HSDPA coverage.
And the speed isn't in correlation with waht I test a few month ago.
- In different which speed did you observe in a HSDPA coverage ?
- For Orange FR user, which max speed did you observe with your Trinity ?
- Did the Trinity need to "enable" the HSDPA behaviour ?

Hello !
I'm located in Puteaux (La Défense) just in front of the Seine river, near Suresne. I can perform a few test, can you tell me what to do ?
I have a SPV M700, and the option "plus d'internet" for the data.

Go to the web page : www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
Test with 50K, 100K, 200K and 600K and report the spped measure.
After we could debate about if the HSDPA is active or not inside this mobile phone.
Should I download them direct with the SPV ?
If yes which download app do you suggest I use ?
Edit : I have had a short look on the page and therefore did a few test at work (Montreuil, near Porte de Vincenne)
The results are not very significant : I got rate from 54 up to 112, with different sizes (600 : 54/103 ; 200 : 106/112 ; 100 : 69/66)

Ok SO you've got the same result as I've got this week-end at Boulogne ands Paris 17 AND the same as I can test at Rennes which is not HSDPA covered.
I'm very confused with this announcement.
I know that Boulogne is in HSDPA and we can't get the correct speed so I4ve got two questions :
- Is the SPV M700 HSDPA enable ?
- Is there a restriction on Orange which "block" the HSDPA field if you don't have an option like "TV Live HD" ?
how do you know you're connected on HSDPA network?
is there a "3G+" logo displayed on the phone?
and does anyone try an edge connexion? is an "E" displayed?

At home, with the 600 kB one I got 110...
I think my HSDPA is enabled, because in the extended rom, there's a "hsdpa /enable" in the tasklist...
To have 3G+ speed, you must normalky have a special option : it costs 4€/months (5 € with SFR)
When you tried some months before, it was experiment , test without the need of this option.
With "total TV HD" you don't have especially access to 3G+, because it works with 3G
In Paris, 3G or 3G+ is saturated because everybody has a 3G phone, so the speed is very slow

When you read the Announcement about the HSDPA opeing in Paris (and in the next at Lille and Nantes) they do not write about an option to enable HSDPA.
I know, but if you go to orange-business , you can see that to have 3G+ access , it's only for "business everywhere clients" with 3G+ pc card or 3G+ icon usb modem.
Option is 4 € H.T. and free for some months...
They will open 3G+ for private users soon...I don't know, how they will do with 3G+ option.
During experiment, people could try HSDPA free in Lab'Orange in June and Later "TV HD" with Samsung Z560 in september-october before the commercial launch in november.
By the way, they are late in opening 3G+ in Lille and Nantes...They promised to do it for december...
SFR has already converted all 3G to 3G+ (65% of population covered)...Orange is one year too late...because they covered 95% people with EDGE...that is not a bad choice, because most od people have only an EDGE Phone now...
Hi Falex,
Your problem of speed is normal, infect the HSDPA trughput is "best effort".
It is dependent on how many users are in the cell (if alone you get an example 1.3 Mbit/sec, with another user simoultaniosly you will get half of the speed)! Not only the number of users connected but also the CQI value is important, an exampleif your CQI is low (ex.10) than you will switch to QPSK witch provide lower troughput than 16 qam (good CQI), so if the CQI is low you will have lower troughput as your radio conditions (coverage are lower).
Also the network dimensioning is important. The only way to improve is by optimize/expand the network, and i belive that this probably is allready on the Orange next months target. If you terminal is qualcomm 6280, than your calss is CAT 6 (you can arrive to 3 Mbit/sec in DL if network support). I have the same chipset and here in my network i allready saw that speed on the DUmeter!.
Thanks for everyone to answer this post.
SO if I sum'up, when I've done the test with the lab'Orange late June 2006 it was only a test and only the sim car provided by the tet was able to get HSDPA DL speed and field.
Know I understand that like EDGE, HSDPA DL speed depends on how many users use the radio a one moment. But nowadays there is a little few user and mobile or PC Card HSDPA enable, so what I'm thinking is that HSDPA is not available on Orange Network for common user, unlike you subscribe to an "HSDPA option".
I'll call the Customer center today to ask them there point of view about this question.
One more strange things : I'm located in Rennes during the week, I'm 3G covered and when I take a look to the CQI field I've got the same figures ???!!!??? And I've got the same DL speed as I4ve got at Paris or Boulogne.
I'll check my Extended Rom to see if there is the HSDPA /enable task.
If think that the SPV M700 is HSDPA enable!
The chip is qualcomm 6275 , so only 1,8 mbits/s speed is available , not 3,6 mbits/s
In any case, Orange France network is only at 1,8 mbits/s for the moment.
SFR is going to 3,6 now...They have one year advance in 3G/3G+ than Orange...because they choose to not make an EDGE network at beginning...
It's normal to have the same DL speed in 3G in Rennes and in Paris
Call the Customer Service, they will say you how to subscribe 3G+/HSDPA that has nothing to do for example with "TV HD" (normally)

Yep, I've check the extended ROM and therer is in the config file the "SetHSDPA \Enable" command and in the "\Windows\" directory the program setHSDPA is present.
Now how can I check the task ? (I'm a beginner, before I was a Palm User )

Ok I'll ask the Customer center.
Just for my point of view SFR has made a mistake to not go Edge because when you are outside the 3G area you are happy when you can surf with the Edge speed instead of the GPRS speed.
About this did you have an Map with the Edge coverage from SFR ? I looking after this for month and month and I found nothing ...

HSDPA on Three Mobile

Hi
I'm with three mobile in UK (three.co.uk), and I'm unable to access HSDPA.
All I can ever get is 3G (with download speed of about 200kbit/s).
I've signed up for an add-on where the data plan should be unlimited.
I've configured the access point to be three.co.uk.
I talked to Three mobile customer service (who are quite useless as they never heard of HSDPA). Complained and complained and finally I got the answer saying because I'm using an unlocked phone HSDPA is not supported. Is this true?
Did anyone out there manage to get this working?
PS. I'm on the new LSVW rom with WM6.
Cheers

3UK havent release HSPDA in UK yet, The only place they testing HSPDA in LONDON AREA
I am in the London area.
Cheers,
Use fieldtest.exe found on this forum to see if your device receives a HSDPA signal. If it does, maybe your HSDPA icon is disabled. However, maybe HSDPA testing is available only to a limited group? I'd ask them to patch you through to the technical support
Thanks. Does anyone know what are the 3mobile settings (preferred access point)?
fieldtest is not showing any info on HSDPA.
D810 GPS ROM had enabled the showing of HSDPA signal.
If your network supports HSDPA, it would show a "H" on the main connection bar.

Howto activate H Icon

Hi all,
I've got an WM5 SPV M700 with the upgrade Orange FR ROM; I've upgrade the radio to the last version 1.50.08.11.
I've got HSDPA enable on my line .(With DSLReport I've got 656Kbp DL )
I've try the Registry tweak : HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL and create a DWORD EnableHSDPAIcon=1.
I've soft reset and check he registry. Everything is Ok.
When I do a DATA connection I never got the "H" Icon but aalways the 3G.
I've check around XDA search tool, google and other tools. The only thing I fond was the twaek or .cab file doing the registry modification.
I've check inside my \windows directory and there is the 3G, EDGE, GPRS, 1XRTT bmp icons but no HSDPA icon.
A frien has done the upgrade with WM6 and he have the HSDPA icon on the screen but nothing inside is \windows directory.
My questions :
- Is it possible to have H icon with WM5 ?
- DO I need to create an HSDPA_connect.bmp icon or something else ?
- Did someone have a magical cab ?
Chears,
Florian.
Are you in area that support (H)igh speed data connections?
I have 3G to allways on the sceen too, and when i use internet, it can show only 3G if there are not highspeed support.
example: when im at work im using only 3G ("3G" on the screen) connection because my carrier has not highspeed support in that area, but when im midle of my city where my carrier has highspeed data support, the H ("H")come on my screen when im using internet/download data. If you are in 3G area it dosnt meen that you allways can use the (H)SPDA speed, its depend on your carrier
sorry for my poor english but hope u understand what i meen
no proble with your english ;-)
Yes I'm in a HSDPA coverage area and I've test the speed and I downloading with a higher spped than 3G. I've also check with the FieldTest programm and the HSDPA CQI status are Ok to tell me that I'm HSDPA connected.
Are you running windowsmobile 5 or 6 ?
My OS version is 1.23.73.3
My Radio version is 1.50.08.11
Oh my god, there is really something strange : I'm walking inside my office and I juste have got an H icon.
The conclusio is that : The last Radio Rom plus the Registry tweak works inside WM5.
I'm now a happy man.
The explanation, is that behind my PC I've got a poor HSDPA signal
We can close the thread.
F.
Just on question?
is really 656kbps really above normal 3G speed?
in my case when Orange France stuck me to 3Gndslreports show me around 300kb, when i'm hsdpa enable the spped go to 600 kb
yes this normal because the speed are real speed when you read that hsdpa it's about 1,8mb this theorical speed wich are never seen.
One more thing remember that or kilobits and over are kilobytes. the conversion is very simple : 1 bytes = 8 bits
also there difference by measuring IP speed and radio speed. to explain your ISP sales an adsl ne speedup to 18Mb, remeber that this ATM Speed the IP speed is around 40% less due to ethernet and atm overhead ...
