HSDPA on Three Mobile - P3600 General

Hi
I'm with three mobile in UK (three.co.uk), and I'm unable to access HSDPA.
All I can ever get is 3G (with download speed of about 200kbit/s).
I've signed up for an add-on where the data plan should be unlimited.
I've configured the access point to be three.co.uk.
I talked to Three mobile customer service (who are quite useless as they never heard of HSDPA). Complained and complained and finally I got the answer saying because I'm using an unlocked phone HSDPA is not supported. Is this true?
Did anyone out there manage to get this working?
PS. I'm on the new LSVW rom with WM6.
Cheers

3UK havent release HSPDA in UK yet, The only place they testing HSPDA in LONDON AREA

I am in the London area.
Cheers,

Use fieldtest.exe found on this forum to see if your device receives a HSDPA signal. If it does, maybe your HSDPA icon is disabled. However, maybe HSDPA testing is available only to a limited group? I'd ask them to patch you through to the technical support

Thanks. Does anyone know what are the 3mobile settings (preferred access point)?
fieldtest is not showing any info on HSDPA.

D810 GPS ROM had enabled the showing of HSDPA signal.
If your network supports HSDPA, it would show a "H" on the main connection bar.

How to configure 3G?

Hi techies
I have recently brought a Cingular Connection with the data feature. The Data feature includes 3G service as well. However, I don't know how to configure 3G on my Imate-Jasjar. I have read at few places that there is some problem with the frequency bands in which 3G operates. So, just to add the info, I am living in washington in Redmond. Can anyone help me with this problem, How can I configure my Cingular 3G service on my Jasjar?
Thanks
As long as you have your phone settings on auto, it will automatically use 3g where it has a signal. The JasJar uses UMTS 2100, so I hope that's what is available in your area.

The Latest iMate Rom includes Operator CAB files.
You select your operation and it installs the settings for the selected operator in the Phone.
I have T-mobile NL. So by selecting it, it installed my acces point, MMS settings and GPRS Settings.
Other option is to go to the webside of your provider and find the options needed there.

I just checked the Cingular's website and found that Cingular has launched UMTS 1900 .
Is there any other way that I can get my jasjar work with UMTS 1900??
Thanks in advance
I'd like to know if anyone has 3g working on Cingular's network.
I don't think it can happen

t-mobile uk HSDPA and TYTN Issues, possible solution

Right, this is my second tytn and i have sent first one back last summenr because of HSDPA problems. problem was that when i use 3g connection to internet was (usually) broken and couldn't load anything at all but was ok in gsm mode. I thought htc might have fixed it so bought current TYTN but hey! problem is still there. While trying to sort out i noticed that if i disasble HSDPA 3g works fine. dont forget you will stick with standart 3 g speeds.
can any one confirm?
how do i know when im getting hsdpa as i never seem to get any speeds faster than around 29k which is around 3g speeds even with a full 3g signal although i do find internet access very very flaky still...
I am still running the standard t mobile settings, i havnt chaged the proxy settings which in some cases help a lot of people
id be more inclined to say its tmobile's end that isnt working correctly, my TyTN is working fine on HSDPA with O2-UK. Have you had your account enabled for using HSDPA????

you need to call t-mobile and tell them you want to speak to technical support then tell them that you want to enable hsdpa on your line. in 30 mins you get it. but doesnt metter. if you have hsdpa in your area and your tytn enabled you might have problem without actually getting it

Well it seems so, I checked online to make sure i wasnt spouting rubbish LOL! As in my sig i achieve ATLEAST 1.1mbps when im connected to and they did announce they would be trialing HSDPA in the isle of man (which they have the fixed aswell as mobile telecomms contracts) and they rollout would be to the latter of 2006?!? Ive managed these speeds since i got my USIM (early september).
If im SERIOUSLY mistaken then i apologise but its gotta be HSDPA since the practical achievable speeds on regular UMTS are around 300kbps right?
yes you're right. you can't achive 1mbit without hspda. i have an o2 sim. will try it

How do I tell I'm using HSDPA?

Hi, I'm aware that my UK T-mobile Ameo is HSDPA capable and I think I'm in a HSDPA covered area but the homescreen only ever shows a little 3G symbol (or a GSM symbol when I'm not in a 3G covered area).
Is there a way to know whether I'm using HSDPA?
I guess one way would be to do a download speed test - anyone know a convenient way to do one?

If you were using HSDPA, the 3G symbol would change to an H.
However, if you only have the £7.50 web and walk package, and only signed up after the summer, you do not have HSDPA on your account.
The £12.50 and above tarriffs come with HSDPA automatically, but for the £7.50 plan, you need to ask for it and hope that someone likes you enough to add it.
By the way, On T-mobile, you will not see the H all the time. It will only appear when you are transferring data. At all other times you will see the 3G symbol so that you are able to receive calls. If you are transferring data on HSDPA, the T-Mobile Uk network will force you down to 3G while the call is routed to you, and then jump back to HSDPA when the call ends to carry on downloading.
T-Mobile is the only network i have seen that does this properly.
Also, T-Mobile has gone HSDPA on all of their 3G transmitters. If you get 3G coverage, you definitely have HSDPA coverage, but you don't necessarily have permission to connect at HSDPA speeds.

Agreed, you will see the H symbol instead of the 3G signal - I am on O2 and it works fine (you should also see an E to show an Edge connection where available).
The point about tariffs is one for you to take up with T-Mobile.
Make sure the HSDPA checkbox is checked, in Settings > Connections > HSDPA Switch. When I'm in a 3G area and I start downloading something, the 3G symbol temporarily changes to an H symbol, then changes back to 3G when done.

Do you see the H all the time, or only when you are transferring data? I know that on some networks that have an old revision of the HSDPA software, it can cause issues with receiving calls if you are on HSDPA the whole time. Have you had any issues with this?

Firstly, you will only see an H if your ROM has different icons for 3G and HSDPA. Some do some don't. If the ROM doesn't have that facility, the 3G icon won't change even if you are occasionlly using HSDPA. As far as I am remember, some of the stock T-Mob ROMs do not include this.
You do not AFAIK need to ask T-Mobile for HSDPA. I have never asked them and regularly used it. I am on a £7.50 plan.
There are plenty of speed test sites out there - Google 3G speed test.
Another good site to check speed is "http://performance.toast.net/default.asp?allservers=1&checkid=" I usually check the "Text" box and try a few hosts...TJ

Only when data is transferred, the 3G symbol is there most of the time.
always been seeing the H on mine, right from the original T-Mobile UK ROM. All Windows mobile 6 ROMS from HTC include the different icons, and unless the operators specify to take them out, they should always be there.
the T-Mobile ROMs do include the different icons, as do all the AP ROMs.
Sometimes you DO have to ask T-Mob for HSDPA. They originally turned HSDPA on for the £7.50 contracts by default. They changed this standard policy sometime last year (as i stated in my first post, i think it was in the summer, but i'm not sure) and now not everyone has HSDPA on their contract. If you ever see the H you do...if not, you don't.

internet problem?

hi, i have not had a smart phone before and am not to sure on how the bands work but think i have a problem.
my phone is from Virgin mobile and running 1.48 stock rom, manila and radio 2.05.
few questions i'd like to ask before you read what i think my problem is.
1. is the internet supposed to run off 3g when not on wifi?
2. is 3g faster than "H"?
my problem: 3g is active, data connection is off. i open opera (or anything else) and 3g trys to connect, 3g sign disappears and "H" appears. data connection is on and using "Virgin GPRS".
i called virgin mobile tech support and they said it is meant to go through gprs.. lie?
i called htc and they said they don't think it is a problem with my phone...
i have done a hard reset.
i think it is either the 3g doesn't work, or there is something really wrong with the settings, or virgin mobile makes it like this?
please help as i may want to return it if this causes a big problem for me.

There's nothing wrong with the phone mate.
You've got GPRS (2G) and 3G which includes HSPDPA (and HSUPA). HSDPA is the fastest of those types, 3G slower, and GPRS the slowest. Your phone will try and use the best connection available, and that just depends on the coverage in your area (and how good the phone's reception is). If you're getting a strong and steady signal, I really wouldn't worry about it.
Basically, HSDPA is a faster version of 3G.
but my sisters 3g (on o2 iphone) is faster (by a lot... and then some) than mine.
ran the same video on youtube (wifi disabled) and she got done in a matter of seconds while i was buffering mid stream
with the coverage checker i ran before i got the phone it said my area was "very good" and i get 3 bars usually.
o it is connecting through gprs not HSPDPA, in the connections screen it shows "Virgin GPRS"

All I can say is that she must have a better signal with O2 than you have with Virgin.

1) Yes
2) No. H is a faster type of 3G.
My only worries with Virgin and 3G are wether they cap the actual download bandwidth available to handsets at 384kbps (despite the phone connecting with HSDPA - I had this problem with T-Mobile), wether they cap the upload speed at 44kbps and wether they block the Skype ports.
The connection name, Virgin GPRS, is just the name they gave to their data connection when they setup your phone. It could actually say anything you want if you change the settings in the phone.

It's possible that she has a better signal than you but I find that 3G coverage on O2, especially HSDPA coverage is generally significantly worse than coverage on T-Mobile (Virgin use their network).
However it could also be that the bandwidth is capped at a pretty low level on Virgin (3G rather than HSDPA despite the symbol), which I mentioned in my previous post.
o ok. ok ok. ok lol satisfied with some logical and knowledgable answers.
i believe they will have capped the data rate then (i haven't had signal problems for 7 years now on 4 different providers and the coverage map showed a very good signal for 3g here), if you can provide me with an app which would test.. o maybe speedtest.net may work i'll try them now and let you know.

Please Help Me Activate my Uni's 3g Connection

Hello! Everyone,
I read a lot regarding on how to configure the settings of my Uni Dopod 900 in order to use 3g. However I failed to get the info I need. So now I decided to get some help.
I am not using 3g so much in the past months for I have access in WiFi hot spots in my area, however I've been traveling a lot these past months that I realized that I needed a 3g connection for some places doesn't have internet access.
I've just called their customer support but they are not useful at all. I have a dopod 900 running in windows mobile 5 with Globe SIM card in it. The problem is I can't connect to 3g using my dopod 900. I just configure the APN and setup the proxy according to the posts that I've read. And also according to my service provider's instruction (Globe |Philippines|). Still I can't connect.
Please help me activate my 3g connection. Thanks!!!
