Hello,
I upgraded my OS ROM to WM6 and the radio rom to 1.38. However, I am now getting problems with my stylus. It is very hard to insert it, tip comes out scratched, from what I can gether its a common problem.
I have seen all the guides for downgrading the OS so am not worried there, however I know you cant downgrade the radio due to its bootloader.
So I was wondering if anyone had any experience with t-mobile's warrenty??
I returned the OS/bootloaders etc to the factory state and juet left the Radio as it is do you think this would get by??
If not does anyone know any fixes for the Stylus problem, can it be fixed if I dismantle?
Cheers,
James
i doubt they'd even bother booting up your phone for a mechanical problem like the stylus slide being a bit gippy, if they wanted to get out of warranty support for a problem like that they'd claim it was normal wear and tear rather than a defect.

Hi Guys!
My TyTn is acting strangely. In use, the display is first pixelating, getting lines (noise pixels as well), and then fading to completely white. When so it doesn't responde to anything anymore. So a soft reset is needed.....
Also the ringtone when called, is 'out of tune', like a old record player when you push your finger on the record.. LOL
Before I send it back to have it fixed by HTC, do you guys have any idea whats wrong, and maybe even a tip to help me fix this myself?
Tried numerous soft resets, hard reset, and a reinstall of the original WM6 rom (in Dutch).
Did not install any new programs lately, or did change anything on the unit...
Don't want to miss my TyTn... so hate to send it away... as many of you I am hooked badly to my beloved digital companion

It acts like hardware incompatible.
How about flashing with WM6 English version.
I don't think it is software problem.
I agree, not likely to be software. It did not get dropped or take a knock did it?
The two issues of pixelation/white screen may, if you are lucky, just be a connector thats loose. The sound I think is unrelated but again sounds like a poor connection at the white rear speaker connector block - not uncommon.
Both of the above could be caused by a sharp knock. There have also been cases of poor battery connections causing problems.
If you have a warranty use it. If not you can follow the dismantling guides or service manual to dismantle - check connections and re-assemble. Be prepared though, that sending it in might still be required!!
Mike
Will send it in
Hi Guys, Thanks fr your replies.
I will take the unit back to the store today.
I am not aware that I bumped it, or neither it has dropped. May be a connection that was allready quite loose to begin with. Lets see what HTC and the store will tell me
Strange thing is, that without my sim in it, and not using it, it stays normal... Have put it aside, and used a very old phone instead, and it is still normal..

Mmmm... that's important information and changes things a bit. Could be a sim card contact or something about the sim. Anyway it tends to suggest that other thoughts about hardware issues may not be correct!
Hope you find the answer at the store.

Hi All,
First, let me introduce myself. I'm a software developer (C#/ASP.NET primarily) from Melbourne, Australia. I've had my HP rw6828 for a few years now and have found xda-dev to be a fantastic wealth of information. I've flashed this phone countless times with many different ROMs, and poked around 'under the hood' with the registry etc and played around with getting TouchFLO working, etc.
Anyway, just bought a (barely) used (still had original screen protector etc on) G1 from eBay (from the US). Got it yesterday and while it's a great phone I'm not sure if the issue I'm having is hardware or software related.
Basically, sometimes (I can't yet determine whether it's just random or if something causes it... I'm still experimenting) when I push certain keys, it's like two keys are being pushed at the same time. For example, I push the [W] key and it types "6w". Makes typing "www." for web-browsing a royal PITA! The reverse also appears to be true, i.e. i push [6] and it also types "6w".
Several keys are messsed up like this, for example [1] or [y] results in "y1", [2] or [5] results in "52", or [n] results in "ns", etc.
I'm totally new to Android and the G1, and this is how I bought it, but Settings > About Phone shows the following:
Model Number: HTC_Dream
Firmware version: 1.1
Baseband version: 62.33.20.08H_1.22.14.11
Kernel version: 2.6.25-01845-g85d4f0d [email protected]#27
Build number: 1.51.0.1 PLAT-1.0 126986 test-keys
Can anyone shed some light on the topic?
Cheers,
Sam.
I would think it would be a software related issue. If you are familiar with rooting, flashing, etc, try flashing to RC29 then installing a JF modded firmware or a Haykuro build firmware.
It looks like hardware
Unfortunately it appears to be a hardware fault actually. I noticed that it was working correctly, then i opened and closed the screen and it was broken again. I then gave it a gentle twist, i.e. the whole housing, and it was okay. I'd say there's a bad connection inside. I was really hoping for a software bug so that i could easily fix it, but at least I now know the cause I might open it up and take a look.
Thanks for your suggestion anyway.
If its a bad connection (as you believe), then that is the easiest thing to fix. Just open it up and reconnect the various connections.
However, I wouldn't conclude that it is hardware just by what you've experienced. Opening, closing, or twisting shouldn't have any effect on the keyboard since it is just the DISPLAY that moves.
Where did you get your phone? I would think it is a hardware issue and would require either servicing or a replacement.

eBay, used. Since I gave it a bit of mechanical adjustment, it's been fine.
Out of interest though, can anyone tell me (from what I posted in the first post) what exactly I'm running on this phone? I.e. is it a form of the original OS, or is it a cooked version?
Cheers,
Sam.
Try googling the kernel version #. Bunch of hits on that. I only looked for a minute or two, but looks like it could be a german RC-9?
did it hold up
I noticed that this post was from awhile ago, and I was wondering if adjusting the inners fixed it and for how long. I just recently bought one on ebay and it too is having the same problem. Also how hard was it to get to the connector that needs to be adjusted?
I have this problem some time ago (2-3 weeks ago) when my phone come back from service. You can try to repair it by strongly shaking (but be careful to don't throw it on f.e. wall ). Several times this repairs phone for hour or two, but after two days the problem has gone permanently and my phone still works perfectly.
This problem is related to one of connectors in phone. I tried to root, flash another ROM but only strong shaking something helped.
Hi everybody,
I recently received a Qtek 9100 from a friend, but I'm having some issues with it.
Firstly, it has Windows Mobile 6.5 installed and I'd like to revert to the OEM version, 5.0, hoping for it to be less buggy, but I could not find a decent method. Could anyone advise, please?
Secondly, I'm having some issues with the display. At first I suspected a hardware issue, now I'm not that sure about it.
So,... after freezing (as WM6.5 seems to have this function really well implemented), I reset the device and instead of the boot screen I got a flickering light screen with all sorts of horizontal and vertical lines. I checked with eBay, found a new screen at a decent price and just as I was about to order the new screen, the display started working again, until last night when a soft reset sent it back where we started from, meaning all sorts of lines.
Now I'm thinking it's either a hardware issue such as a bad contact, or the lines are caused by the damn WM6.5. I'm leaning towards the hardware problem, since the boot loader doesn't show properly either.
Any advices would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
It can be Omap overclocking. Try to look at the wiki for a original rom for your phone
it's hard to say what rom it had since i got it with wm6.5.
i found a link on this forum to a file called RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship_cingular.rar
it seems to be one of the many originals, so i'll try to flash this one as soon as i can figure out the connection issue with ActiveSync. I tried both 4.0 and 4.5 but they both fail to connect i need to fix the pda's display (or wait until it solves itself, like the previous time) in order to troubleshoot the connection error
Can you get into bootloader?
no, i keep getting those flickering horizontal and vertical lines. the odd piece is that anything else besides the connection seems to work. my guess is that the active sync connection can be solved via connection manager, but since i cannot see a damn thing... it's gonna be complicated.
my best guess is to buy a new display from ebay since i found some real cheap ones ($9) and replace it, hoping this would solve the hardware issue.
is there anybody else who got those mad lines? perhaps there's a less complicated solution to this problem that you would like to share
apparently, this is not a common issue, good to know
nobody had horizontal and vertical flickering lines?
I have recently been having problems with my HD2. Blue bands have been appearing on the device, across all tabs and applications. It seems as if its completely intermittent but when it appears it seems to stay on the phone until it is left with the screen off for 15mins or so and then it seems to disappear.
This problem first manifested when I was using the Energy ROM series but I have since tried other ROM's and also now reverted back to stock ROM and SPL from the HTC website.
Please see this video , you can clearly see the blue bands that affect the device.

I have organised for my phone to be sent off to HTC for repair, but I am worried they will use a small bit of damage to the bottom of the phone which has nothing to do with this problem as an excuse to charge me for the repair. The purpose of this topic is really to ask if anyone else has experienced this problem with their phone, and if so did they get it repaired by HTC and what was the process like?
Thanks - MM
Hi,
just recently I bought a used Legend when I was abroad. It seemed to work alright at the shop but I soon discovered that it had a few flaws.
First the symptoms:
The Notification panel rolls down when I touch the screen often rendering the touch screen useless.
Typing on the keyboard in upright position brings down the panel, but if i tilt it it typing the letter "P" will give me "Q"
Some times the screen will start flickering when I hold my finger 10mm above the screen.
The HTC weather app does not show the correct local weather - 3rd party works.
Then to the problem solving attempts:
Reboot - solves the problem for a short while
Resetting to factory defaults - same as above
Disassembled to check for lose components or particles - none found and warranty void I know...
OTA update - I got the 2.1-updat1 2 days ago and the phone worked fine for3-4hrs before it started acting up again. HTC Weather was working.
OTA upgrade - got 2.2 yesterday and had another 3-4hrs without symptoms. HTC Weather app was working.
And a couple of questions:
1) Is it hardware or software?
2) If software - how can it be solved? I`m ok with rooting etc. but would prefer a less time consuming solution. I`m in a Linux environment.
3) If it is hardware - I would probably be able to replace the digitizer (if that`s the problem) but how do i locate it for sure?
4) Would this problem be logged in the phone if so how do i access it?
Software info:
Android version
2.2
Baseband version
47.51.35.17u_7.13.35.05
Kernel version
2.6.32.17-g30929af
htc-kernel(at)and18-2 #1
Wed Dec 1 15:10:40 CST 2010
Build number
3.15.405.3 CL291292 release-keys
Software number
3.15.405.3
Browser version
webkit 3.1
I could send it in for repair but since the warranty is voided it would probably cost a small fortune and since I find it quite satisfactory to mend things I would really appreciate all the help I could get.
Cheers!

I do not Know how much time you spend with disassembling but it took me about one hour to root it and i was new to this
i think a lot of people can do it in less
i'm on linux too and it is not an problem ( look around for the linux method of creating the goldcard it is realy easy )
i had a similar problem when i tryed to use a screen protector
after removing this and aplying a new clean one it worked ok ( but not great )
after removing this new one it worked great
the legend screen is so scratch resistant that i prefer not to have anything on it
Good luck resolving the problem and please if you manage post how you did it
i'm curious !!
Well, took me about half an hour to disassemble and put the thing back together.
Thanks for the tip about screen protectors - have`nt used any but I thoroughly inspected and cleaned the screen just in case. So that one is ruled out
Any other with ideas of whats most likely, a hardware or a software/firmware error?
I will post if I get it resolved.
BTW: I`m in Oslo, Norway anyone that can recomend a good repair shop?
Hi gesax,
I just started having this very same problem a couple of days ago.
I was about to take my phone appart, but thanks to your post I at least know that it wont change anything (thank you for that)
Quite worried, cause I'm pretty much the only person in Argentina with an HTC Legend, so no chance of sending it to a repair shop
By any chance you found a solution to your problem? or did you have it fixed?
Thanks!
Noah
Have the exact same problem. Haven't found any solution. I'm gonna turn it in.
I have a theory, that usage in cold weather (well below zero) might have caused this...
Anyone who can confirm or dismiss my theory?
Sent from my HTC Legend.
I had the same
New screen for me after bring it to assistance
Yes, it happen to me. It's definitively an hardware problem.
Had this before. Well can't say exactly what the problem is. Might be HW or SW or maybe both. It happened twice to me. Once by software, more like rom actually. After a few days with CM, it stated acting weird. Reflash and everything is good. The other time is because water vapour got between my screen protector and screen. Thus resulting in such effects you're experiencing.

My Legend's in vigorous use in -20 C weather here in Canada. It's not that, trust me.
