WM5torage wont connect - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Ok, gone and ripped my DVD (thanks to the good advice in other thread), looks ok on PC and wanna transfer it to PPC.
I installed WM5torage to the device storage (not microdrive) yesterday and it connected to my winXPhomeSP2 computer.
today however, it says upon trying to Activate wm5torage:
"cant switch to mass storage USB driver, error 1f. Maybe some running programs have files open on storage card, preventing direct access. Try to close all running programs."
Sure enough i closed them all, no luck.
Soft reseted, no luck.
Only thing changed between today and yesterday is installing TCPMP to device storage (not microdrive).
Anyone seen that error "1f" and got around it?

I'm not sure what's gone wrong for some of you, but try uninstalling WM5torage (I know I did), then soft-reset and re-install. Then soft reset again. This time activate it before you hook it up to your PC.....PC should recognize it as a Drive!
Let us know if you have any joy.
P.S. It's best to deactivate WM5torage after your data transfers...BEFORE you disconnect.
If you don't you may experience some strange behavior and will have to reset.

still shafted, cant get it to activate whatsoever

Try turning off all your today plugins, then run it.

yep, that was it. turned off SPB plugins and wm5torage works.
turn em on, wm5torage wont work.
bizarre considering they were active when it worked yesterday though...

For anyone else browsing - I occasionally get this problem when 'Craptivesync' doesn't unload properly. I have to kill AS and then start WM5 to get it going.

Something random
I have found that if the last thing i have looked at in file explorer is on the microdrive wm5torage will not work.
Simple solution is to open file explorer and go to my device, close it and then open and activate wm5torage.
Might be coincidence but may be helpful

activesync problems

Hi
I have a Cingular 8525 running wm6 rom vp3g 3.0.0 , radio 1.50 I've been trying to conect the phone with the pc the orange led ligth up but there is not syncronization, I try soft and hard reset on the device without sucess and the pc conect without problem with other devices, please do someone can help me or point me in the right direction to resolve this problem and the other question is if I can flas the rom for other wm6 version from the store card
thanks.
Please could some one help me with this.
Thanks.
uninstall activesync... get the latest version from microsoft and install it... should be fine at that point...
Found that the advanced networking on WM caused me problems with Activesync and firewalls - Once i disabled it XP saw my 3100 as a plain ol serial device again..
Thanks, i'm going to try but i used my other 8125 phone and it is conectiong and this the 8525 is not conecting with 3 diferents PC, I was thinking if there is a way to flash the room again with the wm6 from the store card or over the bluetooth conection.
Have you looked at the Mr Vanx guides to help you solve this problem? The answer will almost certainly be found here: www.mrvanx.org
Good luck.
WB
Sounds like its the single phn.. check that network setting as it could be set correctly on the one that connects ok..
Wouldn't even bother trying to flash it over Bluetooth..
wao this been a pain, I try so many things, first remove the activeync, clean the temporary file from the c:/ drive then restar pc and fresh install the activesyn, went to the 8525 settings-conection-usb to pc and uncheck network and conect to the pc but nada nothing just the batterery stat charging but not link with the pc no even the pc reconize that there is a device conected to it.
please any other advice would be appreriate, the phone is working great but i have not comunication betwen the pc and the phone.
thanks.
mine has exactly the same problem.
It has been working with activesyn fine then today the PC wont even recognise the phone.
Tried remove/reinstalling activesync, new usb cable and even on a different computer.
The phone shows it charging when pluuged in but nothing else.
I'm NOT suggesting this is the problem you have but just a possible cause to eliminate:
Have you used Memmaid or any other application (Scarybear / Sktools etc ) to clear the notifications queue (clear duplicates for alarms etc). If you have then did you also clear other files. If you did then you may have deleted vital repllog files that make the computer and PC start Active Sync.
If you have not done anything like this then ignore this post.
Mike
Ok, i did not but if I removed by any chance some files removing other softwear how can we repair wm6 without the USB conection.
thanks.
hello I was checking my device information and it hasradio version 1.16, this could be the problem doing the sincronizatio? is there a way to upgrade the radio thru the store card instead fro the pc?
thanks in advance.
Kudos and many thanks for those who do so much for the rest of us...
I am having this problem as well, but only since I upgraded my base desktop to XPpro and Office2007. The error message given at times involves "mobile deviceX" hardware installation going awry; at this point, I am on device 10.
It also appears to be device independant for me; I just synced and upgraded a wiz100, which went fine and dandy until it rebooted with the new ROM. All new ROMs in fact, and devolving doesn't appear to stop it.
I believe there may be an XP registry screwup... but at this point, I got no idears whar ta go
Lost in Yokel mode
Later....
Chalk me up for #11...as usual M$ article is almost, but not quite entirely, USELESS!
maybe this'll help somebody else...but I kinda doubt it.

Mike, I believe this is what has caused ActiveSync over USB not to work on my phone either. I cleared several items from the running notifications area using Task Manager v2.7 in an effort to kill repeating alarm alerts. I have currently running are: tmail.exe, repllog.exe, clock.exe and calup.exe. Could you please provide a list of other processes that should be running to allow activesync to operate properly over usb? I have researched this problem in depth and your idea is the only thing that makes sense
thanks.

THIS WAS MY PROBLEM!
i was using pmClean to clean temporary inet files and notifications, and it seems to be causing problems with activesync. i hard-reseted my Magician and activesync is working fine in every computer i attach it (almost a dozen right now)
thx a lot for your help!

At a loss with activesync

I'm at a complete loss with activesync. I've done everything I can think of and I can't get my computer to see my 8525. I've reinstalled activesync and hard resent my device. When i plug in it says
one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows did not recongnize it
usb root hub (2 ports)
- unknown device
- usb composite device
Am I missing some sort of driver somehow? I don't know what to do..please help.
Hey i had the same problem. Is this your first time installing/using activesync??
Well what I did was this:
-Install activesync 4.2 from the CD (CD that came included w/unit).
-Uninstall activesync 4.2 (don't delete any drivers installed by the CD)
-Install activesync 4.5 (download it from Microsoft Website)
-Plug in your 8525 to the PC via USB cable, and your PC should NOW recognize it.
This is what I did and it helped. There may be a better/alternate way in doing this, but I FINALLY got Activesync to work!
Oh and see if you can help me with the prob. that I'm having.

Ya I can't find the CD that came with my phone for the life of me.
ok found disc and tried that. Nothing. Could my phone be broken?
heres what I had to do to get AS working again.
Delete the current version of AS from your PC
Go into c:/wondows/program files and delete the AS folder (Windows may not let you delete some DLL's.
Go into the registry and delete any AS entries you can find, or do what I did and use Ccleaner registry clean up program (Google it, it's freeware)
Restart the PC
Install AS 4.2 from the AT&T/Cingular disk.
Install AS 4.5 from MS.
Hook up your 8525 and all should be well.
Tried that....didn't work.
Still hoping someone has some advice. I've tried two different usb cables and used different ports as well so it's not that.
quick update...
I searched through the forums and googled a few things and from what I can tell other people have had this problem and not found any solution. I am considering trying bluetooth but I don't have bluetooth for my PC...can i get some sort of adapter? Also...Is there a specific driver I can download for the HTC hermes that might fix this issue?
Yea your situation sounds like the one I used to have.
Do you have a firewall?? If so DISABLE it. I have COMODO and even though I would press "accept", the drivers wouldn't install completely.
This is what I did:
-Start your PC.
-Uninstall Activesync through the Add/Remove.
-Delete the Microsoft Activesync folder in the Programs folder.
-Restart your PC
-Wait till your firewall loads up. Disable it.
-Go through the procedures I mentioned in my 1st post.
Oh and make sure you have internet access. I'm not 100% sure if internet access helps, but it could help with the drivers.
Even though I just got my 8525, I don't mind helping someone
tried that. no go. I think i'm going to just have to get a new phone.
Did you try disabling the Advanced Network Functionality?
START -> SETTINGS -> CONNECTIONS -> USBtoPC
Yes. when I do that it makes windows see my device, but windows does not know what my device is. Thats why I think some sort of driver might be missing, but I don't know how to fix that.

So... with the RNDIS checkbox UNCHECKED and your FIREWALL OFF, you get the USB Device not recognized error? In that case, ENABLE it and look at these other settings:
1. In the PPC open ActiveSync, then select Connections... from the menu and make sure the Synchroinize ALL PC's using this connection: USB option is checked.
2. In Windows (XP) check your ActiveSync connection settings (see image).
3. Did you try the AS 4.5 Connection Trouble Shooter?
4. You should also try another computer, just to double-check.
There is no driver to make AS work, AFAIK. Question: What happens when the RNDIS checkbox is enabled? Does Windows report an error or simply doesn't connect?
Tried all of those things, still device not recognized. I do need to try another computer but unfortunatly do not have access to one.
When i click that RNDIS checkbox nothing of interest happens. If it's clicked on when i connect windows very briefly see's the device (although it's not recongized) and then the little symbol for unknown device on my taskbar dissapears. If I then click it off windows will again see the device and the little symbol on my taskbar reappears, but it still doesn't recongnize the device.
Wow. That's a strange problem you have there. At this point, it could be a hardware issue. You could try installing WM5Storage or CardExport just to check if the USB hardware is working (bad cable?). Also, try checking your PPC registry, specifically, HKLM\Drivers\Usb\FunctionDrivers. It should look similar to mine (see pictures attached). I believe these keys tell Windows what to do with the device when connected thru USB. Other than that, try a flashing a new ROM from the SD Card, something like VP3G's which is known to work correctly.
Branden,
I have this problem from time to time. My solution is as follows: make sure the usb cable is connected to both the phone and the computer, even though you are getting the unrecognised error message.
Reboot the phone (soft reset) while still attached to the usb cable. Do not rush anything. Input any unlock passwords when prompted by the system but be aware that booting up can be slow, so give it time.
Once the phone has booted up you should then see activesync kick in. You may have to try this several times before it works but it always works for me.
One thing I would advise is to disable/deinstall any auto locking software, eg S2U2. These tend to kick in on long synchronisations and throw the usb status out.
Hope this helps.

Same Problem
Just to let you know your not alone ...
I am having the Exact same problem at the moment .... fortunately i do have access to another PC ... My Laptop connects to it with no problems what so ever .... so it obviously is a PC issue and not a Phone issue
I too have tried all the currently posted attempts at a solution to fix it but so far nothing has worked ... i am beggining to think that i may have to do a fresh intall of XP and that would Phiss me off
So any further suggestions would be doubley appreciated
Tried everything mentioned since my last post and still nothing. Also I am now getting the white screen issue again (Which I fixed originally by buying another hermes that had a crushed usb port and swapping the screens out). I think I may be about ready to move on to another phone as this is now my third major problem with this model of phone (although one of the problems may be an issue with XP).
I had the same problem. I updated my WM5 to WM6....and it stoped syncing with my computer. Went back to exchange it. Later, I learned it wasn't the problem with the phone syncing.....here's how you can fix the problem.
Click on Start>Settings>Connection Tab>USB to PC
Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"
Click on "ok"
I just upgraded to wm6 again and followed these steps....now it syns fine.
It worked for me.....hopefully it will work for you.
Peace

Tethering overrides flash memory?

I've never had the need to use WMWifiRouter as a 3G to USB connection, but my modem at home is dead and won't be replaced until Tuesday. 3 days is quite a ways to go without Internet! So, I used WMWifiRouter 1.51 to enable the 3G to USB connection for my desktop PC.
After I was done with the 'net, I turned off WMWifiRouter and unplugged my phone. I then realized I needed to upload a few things on my phone, so I plug it back in to use it as a storage device. Problem is, my computer immediately detects my phone as a tether rather than the storage device. I've enabled the option so my phone asks me what type of connection it wants to create, but my computer keeps forcing the tether instead.
I know it's the way my computer is seeing my Touch Pro 2, but I was hoping somebody else may have run into the same issue before and found a resolution.
Thanks in advance!
I just used WM last night as a test, and then finally sync'd up my outlook 2000 contacts and calendar today.
Are you absolutely sure that WM has stopped running? I know on my diamond, the task manager option would NOT show some running apps after it was running without a soft reboot for like 2 months.
I haven't tried a "storage connect" yet though, I don't think I've ever used that.
I am absolutely positive it has stopped running completely. I used the built-in task manager with SKTools to verify. Even after a soft reset on my phone, my computer still does it.
Like I said, I know it's just the way my computer is now detecting my phone, but I was hoping somebody here had the same problem in the past.
I find it a little funny... I used my phone as a temporary solution to not having internet at home and now it only leads to more problems
Try uninstalling the drivers that your computer installed for the TP2, it would be in the Control Panel->Device Manager . Honestly i have no clue which one they would be but by doing this your computer will have to reinstall the USB drivers for your phone and re-recognize your phone.
Tried it. My computer installed it as a modem, but uninstalling the drivers didn't help. My comptuer would still detect it every time and reinstall the modem drivers.
Hard resetting my phone fixed this. It's the worst solution, yes, but it still worked. Fortunately, it only takes about 20 minutes to get everything back in order once more.
Thanks for the help anyways.
UPDATE: Ran into the same problem again last night. Fortunately, I found a better solution.
I made the USB to PC connection automatically connect to ActiveSync and disabled "Enable faster data synchonization." Disconnected and reconnected my phone and I was able to use the Disk Drive option once more without having my PC automatically see it as a Windows Mobile Modem

My HD2 freezes/crashes after connecting to USB in my PC

After installing Miri's rom 6.5.x my HD2 started crashing every time I connect it to the PC whether it is on ActiveSync or DiskDrive mode. It sometimes crashes right after I connect it , but most times after I disconnect it. I have installed Steve007 and SUperboy007 Elegance theme , Midomi , ManilaBirthday , Klaxon , NetRipper's KeypadLedControl , CorePlayer 1.3.6, AppToDate, JWMD Icon Changer, TouchPal, cleanRAM, TorchButton, Chainfire HD2 3D Driver Patch, Mosko.Mobi FIM , Jaguaralani HD2 Action Screen , SRS WOWHD , Resco Explorer and Resco Photo Manager , Xtask , SPB Backup and BSB Tweaks 1.6.
Could you please tell me what is wrong ?
I did hard reset after I flashed the rom.
Anybody?
your whole device or just audio manager?
dont know if this is of interest to you:

Have you installed any of those to the storage card? Because the storage card is not available to the phone when you connect in file mode, though it should be ok in active sync mode. Most of those things should not be installed on storage card anyway.
Also, when you connect the phone it seems to me that it starts to prepare the pre-selected option right away, so if the last time you connected in file mode, this connection will be opened as soon as you connect, and if you change to another connection, the first connection is dropped and the other opened. To avoid this you could go into the usb settings and change connection mode before inserting the usb cable.

I've found my HD2 the same problem. As most of my apps were installed on SD card, when I connect the phone to PC, it's OK until I run an app that was installed on card while the phone remains connected to PC. Afterward, the phone freezes without any word.
Just a piece of my own experience...
Are there any new hints on this item?
My HD2 also freezes, as soon as I disconnect from USB, using hard disk mode. (When using USB to ActiveSync, there are no freezes).
this used to happen to me 2 months ago, but i cant rememeber what was eactly the reason, it may have been 'a theme, task manager or as i rememeber i suspected G profile '...
nothing of these is installed on my device (beside the OEM task manager).
Thanks anyway!
Just try to give it some time. Due to the fact that windows as well as several programs use some kinda autoplay options when external storage device are connected it may take some time until you can use your device. Mine freezes for seconds to one or two minutes until it can be used.
I remember when I made a rom and it didn't include a few oems in my kitchen, it caused freezing when I tried to access the sd card when connected to the computer
have you flashed a new rom to see if the rom isn't the problem?
I only flashed the new official Vodafone 1.72 ROM.
Exactly same kind of problem in HTC touch HD
I know I am discussing this in HTC touch HD2 forum, but I have HTC Touch HD and facing exactly same kind of problem. Have Upgraded from 6.1 to 6.5. Worked flawlessly for 5 months until now. Phone freezes in the Today screen right after connecting to computer thru USB and have to resurrect by resetting. I have Winterface UI installed. It used to work fine before. Please help.
I have noticed after many many efforts and after reading many subjects about the freezing issue, and after almost dumping the HD2 in the garbage, that the reason for this problem is the SD card 32 fat. I have switched a couple of 8GB cards and the system freeze starts within minutes. Then I copied every thing onto a 4G card 16fat and the mobile is flying since then.
Also avoid spb-traveler as it has a conflict with the device making it very slow and full of errors.
Still a problem...
I was excited when I saw that someone had posted on this subject, as I too am plagued by my phone crashing when its connected to USB to the pc. Unfortunately, the post was from a long time ago. I'm using the newest T-mobile rom 3.14.531.1 and it occurs EVERY time I plug the phone into my Windows 7 computer or my Mac...
I don't specifically believe that it's related to the SD card itself, because I can connect in Android via USB and this isn't a problem. I suppose, this could be an issue if it's just related to WM 6.5. My next option (my phone is not with me currently) is to remove the SD card and plug in the phone and see if the same thing happens. If it still occurs, I believe that would 100% rule out the SD card as the issue.

Well, I removed the SD card and when I plugged it into a computer it STILL acted weird. The symptoms seemed different though. First, I can't hit the start button. Well, I can physically touch it, but it does not respond at all. Nor does the start icon at the top take me to the start menu. Also, I tried to go into settings > Menu > All Settings to then turn off sense to see if that was the problem, and it won't even let me in to the 'all settings.'
I guess next step is to just do a hard reset in hopes that this fixes the problem, that or move to a custom rom. I just don't really want to do either because I have a lot of stuff I'd rather not tweak to get to where my phone is at again.
If anyone has any ideas, please help.
Thanks
Hey
Just turn the data sync options like fb and twitter to off. ANd you phone will be running in no time. JUST went to the same problem today and found turning data options off as the best solution.

Can not access from PC both SD or Internal flash storage

Initially all worked OK. But then after some installs from the Market i am not able to do that
Here are some facts:
- i see the drive letters assigned for both of them on PC but when you click Explore the message is "Please insert a disk into drive M: (or N or whatever)".
- They are shown as mounted on the phone . Dismount and mount again changes nothing
- the phone is recording photos/videos OK on internal memory means flash is working fine.
- SD card is perfectly working too. if you extract it and put into computer you can read/write it. On the cell you can play music from it etc no problems
- I restored everything with Factory Data Reset but things did not change
- Same story from another PC
Is this some driver problem ? Or flash memory is locked by Vibrant OS?
I suspect EasyTether or PDANet third party driver for Samsung phones is responsible.
Tethering works though
It's probably one of your 3rd party apps. Mine works fine.
Isn't it strange that combination of cell factory reset + another fresh PC does not work?
S4X, I had the same issue this morning. I was performing a data transfer and had a error message (from computer). From that point forward my phone was no longer able to mount the internal storage, external micro sd card. The only portion of space that was recognized was the dedicated internal app space. Wiping the phone failed to repair the issue. I took it my local tmobile store and they immediately swapped it for a new one. No hassle no fuss. I hope these are isolated incidents. So far my new new phone is working great.
I'd recommend a return.
I should note, my phone was not rooted and I did not have either PDAnet or Easytether installed.
Same problem here, have not fixed problem yet. looks like it's getting replaced tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, I'm keeping an eye on it. If it happens again I'll post something. In the meantime, I'm avoiding any multi-gig file transfers. I'm hoping we're just two unlucky owners and this is not a wider issue. Otherwise, I love the phone.
try turning on development mode. With that off, my mac wont see my vibrant at all. turn it on, and everything shows up.
i think easytether caused the issue
i couldn't get pdanet to work, they didn't have the correct samsung driver, so i unistalled pdanet from my laptop
installed easy tether yesterday - had a heck of time getting the driver to install
then tonite, like you said, couldn't get the laptop to recognize the phone,
uninstalled easytether, re-installed, and actually did it a few times tonite - took about an hour to get my laptop connection working
the hardware recognized changed from Samsung T959, to CDX morem something, and finally when on the last attempt it was recognized as an "android ADB device" and i let windows auto install the driver, it's now working
really think it's easytether and that driver not being stable
i'm on a windows xp w/sp2
Thanks for responds guys but happily after billions of different attempts the problem is solved.
I still can not understand how these changes to the phone happened. Probably some installed software changed in Vibrant something.
Anyway, here it is, it's very simple, but this has an additional step to what it was before nevertheless. After usual USB cable connection and confirmation of using the phone as a mass storage device on the phone popped up menu (if you've made this selection on the phone settings), say into Voice dialer: "Open SD Card", and when new screen appears, click "Enable USB mass storage"
I can also post the way i tether if you like. It works fine like it works fine with EVO for example. T959 is recognized well
As you know compared to EVO and other phones the Vibrant/Samsung Galaxy S only requires one more step before installation of application on your PC: it needs Samsung own USB driver.
So you get from Market and install application on your cell; download driver from the web and install on PC; download and install application on PC.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are some details for those who never tried tether and might need step-by-step instructions:
Step 1) Get and install PdaNet or EasyTether from Market on your cell phone and in Settings/Applications/Development check ON "USB debugging"
Step 2) Download and install USB driver for Samsung cellphones on your PC. Same driver works for both PdaNet or EasyTether applications. I took it from (i am new user at XDA and am not allowed to post the links) www (dot) mobile-stream (dot) com/easytether/android (dot) html
Step 3) Google, download and install PdaNet or EasyTether ( i usePdaNet, it has Bluetooth data connection option also) on your PC. During installation the application will find that the driver is already installed and will ask you what to do, you answer NO to reinstall
When you will need Internet connection:
a) Connect Vibrant and PC using USB cable
b) Launch PdaNet on Vibrant, push button "Connect"
c) if you set up not automatically connect then click on PdaNet icon "Connect" on your PC (in the task tray in right bottom corner)
Done !
Novices also may not know that these applications are free for 1 month for both secure and regular unsecure http/https connections. Then if you need https you have to pay one time fee ($10 or $18) which will work on one phone and several PC. Just a regular http stays free.
