daylight saving times causing problems - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I have a cingy 8525...
Is anyone haveing problems with using activesync and outlook calander?
All of my holidays that occur during daylight savings time that appear in my outlook are 1 day off on the 8525. Independance day (4th of July for us Yanks) shows up on the 3rd of July on the 8525, It apprears fine in outlook on my PC. Halloween, which is on Oct 31 -and shows up on the 31 in outlook, show up as Oct 30th on my 8525.
Thanksgiving, which is after DST is fine.
It looks like the appointments end up 1hr off. pushing the holidays back an hour to the previous day. When I create appointments during DST, They are an hour off.
I have checked pc that I sync with and DST is turned on. Outlooks is configured to use DST also. Any ideas?

No solution from me.. but oh.. thats the cause of it. I started to notice I have birthdays 1 day off. Anyway, now you know you are not alone.

This is a known WM5/ Outlook/ Active Sync/ DST etc issue
If you google on Daylight Saving bug wm5 you'll find lots of sites/posts
Unfortunately there appears not to be one single solution or any solution for all.

Over on microsoft's forums, They suggested it was a problem with time being updated by the tower. I turned off automatic tower updates and the problem went away. This morning I turned it back on and re-tested and things seemed back to normal. I think cingy was doing something to the tower that was causing the handset to ignore DST.
Is there a way to log what is being updated when the handset receives the updates.

Spontaneous Time Zone Changes

I can't seem to reason why the device spontaneously changes from my time zone (EST) to the Atlantic Time Zone. All settings have been checked on both the computer the 8525 is synced with and the device itself. Any suggestions?

Thanks though I did check previous threads
The advice was good however I don't have an option in my clock settings to disable the automatic time update. This AST from EST change also occurs when I reset the device. Do I have another recourse to force the device to remain in current settings?

This is more of a bump than anything else but I'll ask the following question (not because I know an answer but someone else might):
When you say time changes spontaneously I presume you mean - not only when on Active Sync i.e. that the time is coming from your network??
Mike
Clarification
Clarification two events cause the time zone shift from EST to AST:
1. Consistently with activesync, but not 100% of the time. The time zone will shift only sliding to AST, so 7am EST becomes 8am AST.
2. On soft reset the time value remains the same and time zone shifts, so 7am EST becomes 7am AST.
I don't think this is a provider time update issue rather a software issue.
Moving it to the head of line
Thanks for any help.
I can one up your problem with my 8525. At least daily, my phone spontaneously changes forward 3 hours. But the time zone remains at EST. I don't have to use activesync or anything, it will just change when it feels like it. Occasionally, it backs up 1 hour but it always does one or the other. This has been happening since I got it in Nov 2006. Of course cingular offers no help at all but to say it's a daylight savings time problem. Incidentally my smartphone before this (audiovox smt5600) did the same thing, and occassionally changed the current date to my sister's birthday 2 years before current year---and NO, I didn't forget her birthday! Any ideas at all???

Problem with Daylight saving in Israel

Hi,
I have upgraded mu TyTN to Black Satin Normay WM6 and when I have DLS applied on my laptop, my phone is always one hour back, I can not not have that unmarked as it gets updated from our server, I have tried applying the patch (even though I know it should not need it) but nothing, can anyone help .
Only thing that worked for me was changing the time zone to Greece, Turkey, ...
The patch didn't really work out, and moving the clock manually one hour back and not allowing ActiveSync to synch. clocks had the annoying side-effect of bringing all my meetings from Outlook Calendar one hour earlier on the phone...
Until a real solution is found, this workaround at least works...
Which patch have you tried to apply?

Microsoft Israel support provides a patch which definitely works. In case that is not the patch you reffered to, contact them and they will send it to you. Works great on my JasJam
I wonder if anyone has a solution for me with the Time Zone issue in Israel.
Israel has the weirdist DST changes that I know.
See this year's changes: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=110
Each year, the daylight savings time Date, for both spring and fall, falls on a different date.
Currently the date for change is April 1, 2011 ( an no, it's not April fools )
So my clock shows one hour ahead right now for Israel.
I have tried the MS DST time fix, but that doesn't help as the changes for 2011 are not included.
KB977014.cab from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977014
If I manually change the time, 1 hour back, then all my other time zones i.e. Brisbane Australia is also off by being 1 hour behind.
Any idea how to fix this, or will I just have to manually take in all the affected changes each year ? What a pain

Touch HD Activesync Timezone bug?

Hi,
I've just bought a new Touch HD. Yesterday I synced with my work PC and all went well. I then took it hone and created a partnership there too. The idea is that all 3 should keep the same data. After a lengthy wait the sync completed (I haven't checked how successfully), however I've noticed an debilitating issue. When I connect to activesync (including work) the time on the THD is set 1 hour forward. We are not in a DST zone (Brisbane +10:00) and I can't find any settings to allow me to manually turn it on or off if I wanted to. The problem is that when my calendar items are synced they are also 'converted' to the new times which are 1 hour forward. Very frustrating and annoying.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jason
Same happens to me (GMT+1) but without a pattern: only now and then. And obviously, the calendar is screwed up: bithdays (that are whole day appointments) are spread across two days. Tried disabling the auto DST, but no joy: now and then it still happens
The problem seems to be in the firmware itself. Hacking the registry only works until the next power-off/soft reset.
Need somebody to cook the switch out of the ROM.
I'm in your same boat buddy. Set your timezone as Vladivostok. It's the same time as Brisbane and it seems to have no bugs with its lack of DST.
In Active Sync try disabling the "Sync Time when connected" option.

Have you tried some of the steps in this Link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/daylight-savings-update.mspx
Thanks
Dave
Thanks for the tips, Dave: cool app, TimeSyncTZ. Only thing i notice, it cannot send time query via ActiveSync connection, only wifi or phone. Or i miss something?
About the bug, i'm not the best one to test, since as said it happens only every now and then. We'll see

I'll try and look into the AS bug for you. I'm having connection issues with another guy and that is my main focus at the moment.
Dave
Thanks Dave; anyway not a big problem: when i want to sync time, i can simply use wifi (with "about the bug" i meant the appointments shift one, not the TimeSync AS problem)

Thats Ok, so long as you know I meant I'm looking at the bug with my connection code, not with the Windows Time Zone problem
Dave
I have the same issue - but changing the timezone to Vladivodstok (GMT+10) does correct the time on the phone, and the appointments (-1 hour) as well. When you update the timezone, the time and appointments are instantly corrected, so this must mean there is a 'bug' in the timezone definition for Brisbane (GMT+10). I have emailed HTC about this.
Thanks fredskis!
Cheers,
Walter
this bug happens with every timezone. Im afraid htc can not help. This is a problem between AS and MSoutlook when you sync with more that 1PC SINCE YEARS !!! If this happens on your Pc I give you a good advice: dont waste time to try the solutions offered by MS (delete pim in Outlook, ect.) . You will have no permanent succsess. So sync apointments only with 1 Pc and you can trust that the displayed apointments are correct and not messed up.
Same Problem !
Just purchased HTC Touch HD - Same problem encountered. arrrr ! I'm in Brisbane too. I have downloaded TZedit.exe from Microsoft. I intend editing the Vladivostic zone on the P.C. and try that. I'm convinced the problem is with the HTC time zone handleing, though, not the P.C. This HD is replacing a Jas Jam (Also HTC) and it didn't exhibit the problem. The problem can be identified by the going to "Visiting City" in the Clock tab. If you set Home as "Brisbane" and visiting as "Sydney" and then change the time in Brisbane, you'll notice the Sydney time (dim) EXACTLY tracks the Brisbane time. This should not happen. There should be a tracking difference of one hour. The Jas Jam worked perfectly in this way. I'm not holding my breath on HTC to involve themselves with this. What we need is a TZedit program for a PDA, or at least for a HTC Touch HD.
Same Problem but slightly different
Hi - I don't know what else to do - have spent hours of searching and reading support forums etc and cannot find any answers to this one.
My *NEW* HTC Touch HD (Telstra 8285 Model) has an even bigger problem..
I am only able to set the Home time zone as "Sydney"
I can change this to whatever city I like - even Brisbane - however after each "Soft" reboot it reverts back to "Sydney"
Is this an issue with HTC or with Telstra or with Windows OS.
Have tried all three and each blame each others software/hardware for the fault.
Anyone out there that can help me move from "Sydney" back to my hometown of "Brisbane" - it is there to view so I can only asume it should work.
Thank you in advance.
Time zone changing
I live in Belgium Time zone set to Paris, Madrid GMT + 1.
Every so often for no reason that I can detect the time zone changes to Windhoek, I've tried multiple active sync's with 2 machines, soft-resets but can't make it happen, but then suddenly without doing anything special the timezone will change. Does anybody have any ideas about this?

Problem with clock (DST?)

Since I bought my HD a couple of weeks ago each time I sync it with my PC the time goes back an hour. I'm in GMT, so I'm guessing it's to do with daylight saving time, but there's no option to change it.
For now I've just disabled autoupdate, but obviously it would be better if it would update, and even with this the time stamp on texts I recieve are an hour behind.
Only thing I've thought of is changing to GMT+1, haven't tried this yet for some reason, guess I'll do that now
Anyone had this problem/know how to fix it? Cheers
I had a similar problem. After deactivation of the time synch in the phone settings it was solved.

As I said I've done that, but the time stamps on texts are still an hour behind, and obviously it would be better if it actually would update rather then having to scrub round it.

Yes, set to GMT Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London. Kind of assumed there should be a DST setting on the phone, take it it's not meant to be there?

[Q] Clock Did Not Update to Standard Time

Today (Sunday, Nov. 7), when I awakened my HD2 (T-Mobile), I got a notice that the time had been updated. But it had not. It was still showing Daylight Time. I had to manually turn the time back an hour. Fortunately, I was not needing the alarm this morning. Is this a T-Mobile problem or an OS problem on the HD2? Did anyone else see this, or it it just me? I am still on 2.13 OS.
At 2AM, mine went back an hour like it was supposed to. It displayed the pop-up mentioning the switch and I clicked OK. Then later this morning, I looked at it around 10AM and it was showing 11AM. I think perhaps being connected to my PC via USB for ActiveSync might have somehow contributed to the mix up. Since the PC also had to adjust its time. I unplugged the USB cable, then plugged it back in so the HD2 would auto-sync its time with the PC and the problem was quickly resolved.
But brucegil, if you were not connected to a PC, maybe it was just some other issues we noticed. I'm running EnergyROM, it's a WM 6.5.5 build that is a couple months old.

I had the same problem while researching i found it thought it was in Indiana which doesn't observe DST instead of EST like it should have been.

Mine didn't change until i rebooted. then it was fine.
From the T-Mobile USA forum, if you enable Internet time sync this won't be an issue.
Settings tab -> Data Services -> select Internet time sync from the Menu.

I had Internet time sync checked and it still didn't change the time until I rebooted. I actually unchecked it after that thinking that maybe that was why it didn't auto update for me.
