[Q] Clock Did Not Update to Standard Time - HD2 General

Today (Sunday, Nov. 7), when I awakened my HD2 (T-Mobile), I got a notice that the time had been updated. But it had not. It was still showing Daylight Time. I had to manually turn the time back an hour. Fortunately, I was not needing the alarm this morning. Is this a T-Mobile problem or an OS problem on the HD2? Did anyone else see this, or it it just me? I am still on 2.13 OS.

At 2AM, mine went back an hour like it was supposed to. It displayed the pop-up mentioning the switch and I clicked OK. Then later this morning, I looked at it around 10AM and it was showing 11AM. I think perhaps being connected to my PC via USB for ActiveSync might have somehow contributed to the mix up. Since the PC also had to adjust its time. I unplugged the USB cable, then plugged it back in so the HD2 would auto-sync its time with the PC and the problem was quickly resolved.
But brucegil, if you were not connected to a PC, maybe it was just some other issues we noticed. I'm running EnergyROM, it's a WM 6.5.5 build that is a couple months old.

I had the same problem while researching i found it thought it was in Indiana which doesn't observe DST instead of EST like it should have been.

Mine didn't change until i rebooted. then it was fine.

From the T-Mobile USA forum, if you enable Internet time sync this won't be an issue.
Settings tab -> Data Services -> select Internet time sync from the Menu.

I had Internet time sync checked and it still didn't change the time until I rebooted. I actually unchecked it after that thinking that maybe that was why it didn't auto update for me.

Another mystery

Hello All
From time to time when the phone is in the sleep mode (screen locked) it turn on the screen for a while then go blank again
Any ideas?
Which applications are you having running? My old P750 did it regularly on midnight only... never found a clue why, though.

none, however activesync is starting itself..
i am using it to sync from gmail account
Yes this used to happen to me on my Kaiser, not so much on the Leo.
It usually occurs/ed when:
-the phones is connecting to 3G, Swithing network/roaming (eg in Ireland, 3 can roam on O2 networks in some areas this transition seems to cause the screen to power on briefly)
-recieving a call that hangs up just before the Phones plays the ring tone.
-when activesync decided its time to sync with a server
-when some 3rd party apps activate in the "background"

This is normal since earlier this year. This is M$ or HTC. Part of the rom we are using, it just wakes up at 12 Midnight everytime. No idea why they do that thou
IIRC it is for the scheduler. The notification queue (runs or notifies apps based on time or event) is reset at midnight. This can cause it not to run scheduled events, so some programs such as G-Alarm wake up at midnight to prepare for the next day.
I expect now that HTC have their own alarm in 2.5 they do the same.

suddenly rebooting several times...

hi all,
i have my TD2 now for some months and it already happened several times that it reboots automatically. Not just once, but several times in a row and after 4, 5 or more reboots it comes to the screen to input the pin...
I do not know how this is triggered but it is very annoying!
I use WM6.5 and some user programs like TD2 Tools (2d), MobiReg, NaviComputer, KeePass, Free42 Decimal,...
The TD2 Tools info screen gives: ROM 2.16.404., Manila 2.1.19193517.2, OS Kernel version 5.2.21869
Is this problem known to anybody? Looking forward to your advice!
Not sure what the cause could be but a hard reset mey be the only fix.
Hi,
After 13 months, I'm now getting this spontaneous rebooting for about 4 times on the trot. It can happen mid-call or just whilst it's sat syncing with my PC. The reboot always seems to happen about 10 seconds after Sense has started.
I am on Stock WWE HTC 2.53 and Radio as per below. I haven't changed anything recently but this started happening yesterday. I did think it was connected with my SD card but I've swapped it for another good one of different capacity and no go either.
I have also tried a hard reset. This didn't fix it either as the rebooting started again after about 10 mins. All I had done was reached setting up a partnership and syncing.
I'm worried that my hardware may be damaged, though I don't understand how.
Really worried now.
John
PS My Diamond2 has just rebooted 4 times whilst I type this and it's connected via USB.

I'd have to say that if you've hard reset and are on stock ROM, it would definitely indicate a hardware issue, as if something was triggering the soft reset button. Has the device gotten wet or anything?
Thanks for the reply. No not got wet or anything out of the ordinary. It started just last night whilst it had been sat for about 6 hours plugged into the HTC mains charger.
Looking at it more closely, it seems to happen 5 seconds after the data connection comes up. I guess Sense is checking the weather.
It has done 10 reboots now consecutively but every now and then it just seems to behave. This morning it was fine whilst I was out but it has been having rebooting episodes ever since I go home.
Oh well, I'll wait and see for a while and then panic. No money and the warranty won't be much use after a year........ Hmmmmm going to find the paperwork to check what the warranty actually is.

Try removing your cities in your weather tab and maybe play with your network settings in Phone\Menu\Band
Amazing! I was just about to post that switching to GSM only had stopped the rebooting.
This could only be temporary as I use a lot of HSDPA speed data. I decided to reflash the radio and now it seems fine on 3G. I'll keep an eye on it and report back in 24 hours.
I was thinking back to yesterday. There was a time when the wall charger was unplugged from the wall socket before removing the usb connector from my phone. Could that have caused a spike?
Thanks Bruce for taking an interest and the helpful advice.
Cheers
John
PS Cautiously happy now

It is possible but likely that caused a spike. Shouldn't matter which gets plugged in first, USB or charger.
Hopefully the issue is gone now.
Good luck.
Well, sadly, I spoke too soon.
It was fine all last evening with no reboots and frequent use on 3G.
This morning, after a sitting on standby for 9 hours, it started rebooting as soon as I turned it on to check email. Of course this was where it started downloading the weather as well as email etc.
The switch to GSM stopped it rebooting again, so I now need to confirm this is stable over time and then try further combinations of weather on/off and or older radios. Basically, I'll try anything as I have no choice right now and need the phone, email, web and satnav combination.
My wife has offered to sacrifice her shiny new Blackberry but she has finally joined the mobile email/web brigade and I don't want her to go back to a plain GSM phone. Plus, all my windows software would be written off before I'm ready to do that.
I'll report back if the situation improves although I think it's not going to get any better.
John
Just an update in case it helps anyone else.
On GSM with GPRS data I have had no reboots but shortly after switching to 3G, I end up in the reboot loop.
I have tried new ROM, new radio ROM and new T-Mobile settings. Still the same.
I shall now wait out my contract using GSM until December, at least I can use WiFi at home. I'll then change to something new........ Android, WP7 or even Blackberry!
Thanks for the help. 10ish years of MS pda's have been fun and I've enjoyed playing with ROMs and software but maybe it's time to switch.
John
So, you've flashed back to your stock ROM and with nothing else installed, the rebooting still occurs? Is the stcok ROM pulled from HTC via your S/N?
Progress????
Hi Bruce,
Yes, I have downloaded and tried the original 6.5 ROM and Radio from T-Mobile with the same rebooting problem. Furthermore, I tried some other ROMs before reverting back to the HTC 2.53 WWE - all with the rebooting problem on 3G.
HOWEVER, in doing all this, I noticed it rebooted specifically when the weather connected and downloaded an update. This would happen either manually or automatically.
I have now found that turning Weather updates to manual stops the rebooting UNLESS I actually do a manual update and then it will reboot.
Now, for completeness, I have reverted to the T-Mo 6.5 ROM again and proven that the reboot occurs when the weather is updated either automatically or manually.
This is so confusing as I am effectively replacing ALL the software with a new ROM and Radio but this problem now starts to feel like it is software. Does the weather update do something special on 3G? Something that browsing, Google Maps, email, stocks etc doe not do?
Well, at least I now have 3G...... just no Weather............. SOOOO confusing.
Thanks
John
That is strange. Weather would use the same connection type, just hits a different server.
Also, a typical weather error would only cause Manila to restart or fail to load, not the phone itself.
Flashing the stock ROM would initiate an MTTY Task 29 command that would wipe your flash drive eliminating the possiblility of reminence of a previous flash.
This has me baffled as well.
I found a couple of posts from other devices and it appears to be caused by a bad chip...
In my opinion this could be 'the beginning of the end' of the radio chip. My old Mio A701 did almost the same (not reboot but sometimes freeze) and finally it did not recognized any network and any sim-card; several ROMs tested.
Now it stays in my old car for GPS functions.
But maybe you are more lucky than me...

I've found similar on the Desire and HD2 forums too and was wondering if it could be related.
I'm still fine on 3G with no Weather refresh but checked this morning before going out, that actually performing a refresh did still cause a reboot.... and it did.
On arriving at my destination, 20 miles away, I tried the same refresh and it was fine.
At this point, I was starting to think it may be related to location services and my D2 is checking on it's whereabouts (with cell towers, etc) before downloading the local weather.
Interestingly, my home village, where ALL reboots have happened, does have much stronger signal now due to a very recent new cell tower. It was always 3G but now I get all bars all the time and higher bandwidth.
Now just come home, retested and it's fine! Auto Weather updates on 3G, Google Maps, etc...........
I'll keep a watch and let you know what happens next, I'm sure it's only a temporary respite!
Thanks again
John
Almost same problem with mine diamond2. Only most rarely. Sometimes it reboots once in week, sometimes once a day. I couldn't find any situation manually which causes reboot.

Since this episode of getting my Diamond2 back to working on 3G with no reboots and everything switched back on for downloading the weather etc, it has not rebooted once in 10 days.
I'm very happy that it seems to be behaving properly.
Anyway, just a quick update from a now happy again D2 user.

Date & Time not updating!

Hey all. For some reason my phone will not update the time and date automatically! I tried doing a reset but that didn't work. Also, the weather displayed "My Location" for a few hours after the reset until it suddenly clicked. However, the fact my date and time are not auto updating means I can't use Live Messenger or Marketplace which is frustrating. I can use the internet fine, I don't know why this is happening :S
Can anyone help?
What rom are you using? i seem to have this same problem, it dosnt update the date and time, i have to do it manually, its very bothersome.
i am using Duttys HG evo v2.7 wwe, i am considering changing it because of this problem, love the rom but this is a problem.
maybe Duttys HG v 3 will resolve this?
I'm using the standard one, 1.73 I think. Its kinda weird, never had this problem before.
When did it start to occur?
I noticed that on my HD 1 i had problems updating time and gps position when i was in colorado for some reason, the gps on my truck was fine, but the phone didint quite get the data needed. I was up high and in mountains, what about you?
Well I'm in the UK. I got my phone back from repair due to slow network connections. Now that's fixed (super fast), the date and time don't update lol. Happened since I got the phone back (yesterday)
Well not really sure about this one, being that i dont really know if the repaired a hardware of software component.
But anyways, try going to settings, then location and at the bottom there should be and option that says SYNC TIME WITH GPS, enable that, reboot.
Its worth a shot, if not just disable it if you choose too. good luck
I don't have anything that says "Sync time with GPS" :S
FIXED!
Ok, I figured out how to fix this problem. If you have windows mobile device center, start a sync between the phone and the PC. I noticed everything automatically updated (Date, Time, Weather) and everything is fine now, i can access messenger and marketplace and the SMS is ok. I am very pleased and hope this can help a few other people too!

Phone keeps changing time zones

Hi all, my TMOUS HD2 randomly changes time zones from EST to PST at least 2-3 times a week on its own when I have "my location" picked as a time. Anyone else have this problem? I flashed to the new T-mo ROM about 3 months ago...Tj
My device and a friend's device is having the same issue. This is irrelevant to the ROM as I am running a Artemis after the 3.14 and my friend is on 1.48
mine just recently started doing that..keeps putting me in the GMT -5 (Indiana) time zone instead of the -4 (Atlantic) I've had to change it like 3 times in one day. Never had a problem with this b4. Wonder if it has anything to do with the ThrottleLauncher WP7 theme i installed on it the other night..because that time setting seems to be changing to.
my uk hd2 keeps doing this over the last week or so, randomly jumping ahead timezones. it's persisted accross multiple energy roms and a stock rom.
weird

my HD2 was doing this but only when i would go home to visit in Richmond TX. When i would update weather manually it would switch to eastern time zone. I think this is because the phone thinks I am in Richmond VA so it switches to Eastern time. I havent found a viable fix for this but its not really an issue.
IS there a chance you are using your phone in a city or town that has a common name in another state? this might be the reason. While riding my motorcycle a while back i stopped in London Arkansas and my phone thought I was in London UK.

same Indiana time zone default issue. I HAVE THE LATEST 3.14 original ROM with c00kie's home tab.
Same here with the original ROM installed. I live in GMT+1 timezone and it sets my time one hour ahead at least 5x a day. Pretty annoying.
Hmmm... wondering if this issue has no fix, or if its not wide spread enough... It DEF has something to do with CUSTOM roms, because both me and my wifes HD2 worked like champs for a month straight out of the box, with location services and the whole nine with out ANY problems, I flashed ChuckyROM and here it is... No matter how many times i change the timezone, no matter how many soft resets, no matter how many ROMS flashed, the time keeps jumping... sometimes one hour, sometimes 2, it onlys corrects when i DISABLE all time syncs and locations... WHICH SUCKS and shouldn't be the fix... ANY HELP would be appreciated , THANKS IN ADVANCE

That happened to me a long time ago. And I remember I fixed it either by checking/unchecking something on the Windows Mobile Device Center (or ActiveSync), something in the sort of NOT synchronizing Outlook items (no problem with me because I never use that anyway; I use MyPhone instead).
think i have a fix
disable the option in settings - menu - all settings - personal - phone - gsm/umys services - time synch
you can leave the option in settings - data services - internet time sync enabled.
not sure why its changed, i have stock everything....

I know the problem
Hello,
I know this problem.
And I think I know the reason for this "acting out".
It started for my HD2 at the day of the
DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME change.
I believe the makers of that phone forgot to install
a daylight savings option.
It would be great, if someone could make a clock that will do that,
or that will verify the time with a different time service,
taking into account daylight savings time (winter/summertime).

Nope. Its a problem for org ROMs also. It probably has somting to do with the Internet-provider or the providers of weather-app etc.
In my case the "my lokation" in the weather-app is showing wrong place. This error appeared at the same time as the clock-problem.

Clock adds 1 hour after soft reset

After the recent time change, my clock is ****ed up. Every time I restart the phone, it adds 1 hour. So, if it's 13:00 and I restart the phone 4 times, it says 17:00. It only happens when the phone service is activated. Ideas?
I have similar problem. The phone adds an hour or two randomly, and resets it self to correct time randomly.
Using the latest offical ROM from HTC.
The timestamps on SMS will also get the incorrect time if the time is wrong.

Yes, check this out. I did it and now the time is right, so I guess is something wrong with my service provider
I don't find the menus described in the linked page.

Well they're slightly different because of the HTC Sense and the Windows version, but in the Mini the steps are:
Settings/Menu/All Settings\Personal\Phone\GSM/UMTS Services and then scroll down and you'll see "Time Synchronization". Tap there and then "Get Settings".
awesome, thank you. i started to freak out
No prob, but I consider this a temporal solution, since I'm interested in having automatic time when I travel
I can report my clock worked fine after your tip.
Thanks

Same Issue HD2
I have the same issue on a HD2 (with Dutty Fam v5 ROM). I'm in the CET timezone (Amsterdam) with DST (occurred last weekend).
It even occurs when I turned off the Network Identity and Time Zone(NITZ). After a soft-reset an hour is added just after Sense is loaded completely.
I can get the right time back by:
1. changing the timezone
2. go back to a city in my own timezone
3. go back to my location
I turned of Sense and resstarted the phone again. Now it doesn't add an hour, so I think it has to be something in HTC Sense location service.
I switch back on the Network Identity and Time Zone(NITZ), and it directly an hour is added.
Now I'm confused.... So my provider (Vodafone NL) is also an Issue.

Thanks it's working now.

Wow that must be a weird bug in some HTC Phones then... I think we should contact HTC and inform them about it or something
FWIW, I don't use sense and I have the time shift problem too. Just unchecked the "Time Synchronization" setting... we'll see...
Me too, I've unchecked the "time syncronization" and since now it's working fine.

Thanks a bunch Nitro.
I just hard-reseted my HD Mini and the problem is still there So no automatic time change anymore
Could it be a Vodafone NL thing ?
I live in Denmark, has a HTC HD Mini, and did never before have problems with wrong adjustment of time.
Nore here in Denmark, England - and also Holland before summer.
Last week I was in Holland again, where the clock went craisy
It just keep adding 1,2,3 and 4 hours to my time. Without any reset or any thing else.
Removed the aut. time adjustment, as described above, whereafter the time was correct for the remaing time in Holland.
When I returned to Denmark, I activated the aut. timezone adjustment again.
After one day, the phone did a one hour adjustement.
A week after, the time is still correct.
ONLY in holland the timezone adjustment went craisy ?

You can get correct automatic time change by: settings tab => Data services => Time synchronisation.
Not sure of the english menu name in french it's: services de données => synchronisation de l'heure.
