I have already seen a previous threads on disabling the camera on an 8125, but...
My company just starting enforcing a no camera phone policy, and I would like to find a way to not only map the key differently, but have the screen say "CAMERA DISABLED" when the camera button is pressed. This would satisfy the entrance receptionist. I am new to this list, and this is my first PPC phone. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
why not map the camera key to none? go to start, settings, buttons

maybe i should have said a new appreciation.. some people think we get dumb questions over here from n00bs.. but 90% of the posters on the cingulars boards dont have a clue, drives me nuts.. anyway now that i am done hijacking this thread..
Is the solution to mapping the key to none a good solution for you excesszone or do you need something different?
It'd be very easy to knock together an app to do this, although as my brethren suggest, perhaps just prepare a bitmap with said legend, and then map that to the camera key. Pressing the key would launch the bitmap with the "camera ist kaputt" image etc.
But an exe could be prepared to do the same.

First of all, Thanks for your assistance...
1)I have already remapped the camera button to <NONE>, but I still would like the screen to say "CAMERA DISABLED" upon pressing the camera button.
2)Actually, I honestly would like the camera software to be truly disabled or removed, and usable only if the actual camera software (or enabling program, or app, or whatever) is reloaded. This way if any company's security dept. really went looking for the camera application they still would not be able to launch it. I really do want to do the honest thing here since I ultimately want to comply with the no camera policy. I still need to visit secure facilities.
...but, I do not want to be greedy, so solution 1) above will suffice. Is it possible to drag the Camera app Icon into another folder, so it is out of sight?
I inadvertantly replied previously to "shogunmark" with a personal response, which mentioned that as a mechanical engineer of 25 yrs, (with early 80 char punch card fortran coding experience), I run for the hills when it comes to writing lines of code...so forgive me if I may require from time to time, a little "hand holding" (skip the h_mo phobe jokes!!! ). Thanks again.

There are posts on disabling the camera like this already I think.
Look up user Chatty's posts from memory - he eventually physically removed the cam, but I think you can try just overwritting the camera.exe with a dummy one. Then delete the dummy to re-enable the camera. Might work, might not!
Certainly you can move the camera shortcut elsewhere, and change the icon and call it Cat_Pr0n or something so people don't get suspicious.

[email protected] no h_mo jokes.. there goes my reply.. lol .. how about this joke instead.. you have had almost as many years exprience as a mechanical engineer as i have been alive, welcome to the boards grandpa!
Now down to business.
you could go to:
\Windows folder and delete camera.exe
\Windows\Start Menu and delete camera.lnk (only if camera is in the start menu)
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete camera.lnk
This will ensure it wont come up. Camera.exe from the windows folder may be difficult to delete, however if you delete the lnk's it will keep it from being easily accessible and they would really have to dig to get the camera app up. Also as an alternative you might want to look around on the other boards and see if anyone has an 8100 they are willing to trade for your 8125, its the same phone just minus the camera!
I think you can have option (2). Just go to \Window, copy the camera.exe to somewhere else, rename it to (say) `thisIsNotCamera.exe` and have it copied into \Windows. Make an exe that display `Camera Disabled` and rename it to camera.exe and copied that into \Windows. You can keep all your links alive, if the security wanted to check, they will just see `Camera Disabled`, unless they are going into \Windows and execute each and every of your file. When you want to use camera, just find this secret file of yours.
As for the exe that display `camera disabled`, I bet anyone can write a Hello World for pocket pc is able to write one for you.

You guys are lifesavers. An old guy like me (as per shogunmark) needs help from time to time. My walker kind of slows me down!!!
My office (IT dept) will accept that my camera is disabled if the sceen says so after pushing the button, so I am electing OPTION 1 (mentioned in previous posts). It sounds like it could be handled with an app or an exe, and beyond. But what is the simplest way of achieving this?
Also, can I ask someone to write this and step me through its creation and install. I tried moving the Camera Icon / program into another folder and had no success. I am still a bit gun shy hacking into my 8125. Back in my day...

The easiest way is to create a text file called camera.txt rename it to camera.exe and place it in the \windows folder overwriting the camera.exe. (with total commander or gsfinder) Now when you click camera button an error message will pop up - will that suffice? You can do the same with clear storage - will stop one of shogunmarks many kids reseting your device.
Where is a mod when you need one?
Attached a simple hello world application to display the message "The camera function has been disabled permanently for security reasons.". Useful if you want to by pass security check to. . . let them check your phone.

:?: hi, was thinking of buying xda2 but there is a stupid rule in my work place which does not allows any imaging device (xda included) to enter into the working enviorment.
so i was thinking, can the camera be physically removed (diy) or at least can it be disable using software or hardware (ie: disconnecting the wires to the camera) ... ??
i really like xda2 and i am tired of xda1 ... and one to help?
by the way, does this forum teaches how to open up a xda2? ...
regards
almondking[/b]
The camera software is located in the extended rom part of the installation procedure. If you were to modify the extended rom to remove that CAB file (or just not let the autorun that installs those files run after a hard reset (i.e. soft reset it before it has a chance to run those files) then you would not be able to access the camera at all from the device (your work can inspect it all they'd like). This way you don't have to mod your xda ii and can always replace the cab later if you want to use the camera.
Jon.
sounds good ...
sounds like a good idea~ ,... no software, can't work!~ next problem, if i do not want to flash my phone, wat can i do to prevent the camera software from installing, i mean can i uninstall it from the rom or something like this ... ?
Youcould unlock the extended rom, back it up then delete the camera cab, however I doubt very much whether your security conscious company accept your word that the camera cannot be operated. Maybe you should get an xda1 for work.
unlocking the extended rom?
sorry, was relatively new to this xda2 thing ... how and wat do i need for unlocking the extended rom? opening up the xda2 and pluging out the camera will be the last thing i wanted to do ...
maybe i should change my job ... hehe ...
I really don't think the company would object if they saw that there was no way to access the camera portion through software. There is a program here called EREdit2003 that can backup / modify extended ROMs.
I would deffinetly NOT open up the phone for a variety of reasons - especially warrenty - Nothing is worth voiding a warrenty on a multi-hundred dollar phone.
Jon.
Oh, just thought of this very low-tech solution:
buy an XDA I Krusell case for it - it covers the camera lens. If your company isn't too savvy on inspecting it (i.e. they don't care to take off the case) than this could work as well. Obviously a long shot if your company is so security minded - but you never know.
why don't you buy an imate from KSA they come from the maifacurar without a camera option, not even a place for it
There are 2 ways not to activate the camera:
- The easist way: You can set the button 3 to "none" in settings/buttons. If you don't like to see the camera icon in program windows: go to windows/start up/programs and delete the link file (camera.lnk)
 - Second way: Do not install the CAB software from the extended ROM. It can be done by: delete the file in config.txt. Other way, you rename the autorun file to .ex1 and run cab file manually after hardreset your XDAII
Thanks a lot guys!
Thanks a lot for all these help! finally got the xda2 today at S$1398 with a line to the local telco (w/o line is S$1598).
have yet to explore the device ... but i'm very sure i can display the camera function with so much help from you guys!~
the option about getting a leather case w/o the hole for camera is out .. the security guard at my work place are not so dumb .. hehe, they remove the leather case and check. ... some other guy had already tried that before .. it won't work ^^
jon's method sounds eziest! using EREdit2003 to edit the rom, i hope it'll work, anyone tried before? and by the way, jon, do you have the program? thanks in advance~
sonadt's method sounds great too .. deleting the link and disable the hot button ... but if i use file explorer to find the camera .exe file, will i be still able to activate the camera? i suspose so ... as for the 2nd method, 'not installing the cab' - sounds like a big task to me. in short, does it means that i need to flash the rom?
thanks a lot [email protected]~ you all are great! long live to this forum ^^
If you make the extended rom visible and editable you can remove the cab file and also the link as described, you will then have zero access to the camera as the software is not present to process/drive the hardware.
One easy way of uninstalling the camera software is to perform a hard-reset and just before the ROM autoinstaller starts perform a soft-reset, when it comes back you will have a normal Pocket PC minus the software that auto installs. But if for some reason you need to install the rest of the software that comes in the phone you can always install that by hand (minus the camera .cab of course), but for that you need to perform a small hack to be able to see the Extended Rom, there is an installer around here (forgot the name) that let's you uncover the extended rom section of your device and manually install the .cabs.
On the other hand, a disabled camera is still a camera, so chances are your security staff will not allow it inside anyways since it's almost like trying to get a regular camera in the premises but without film, they will not allow it no matter what.
But good luck and let us know what happened.
Regards,
Rayan
Although this won't apply to the initial poster now, but for future reference, Saudi Arabia sells the Imate here without the Camera, it is manufactured like that especially for them. It retails at approx $850 here, if anyone is interested I can look into places that take on-line orders.
imate??
imate = xda2 without camera?? SeRIouS?!~ wonder when can i buy it ... thanks a lot for all the ppl that gave me the solution!
[Update Nov 7: Universal too! Use VJLumosLite]
All,
If you follow this thread you’ll see discussion of the bizarre behaviour of the Magician’s screen when you start the camera; the screen momentarily goes whiter than white, nay, SuperBright. However, this level of brightness has been hidden from us in normal use.
I have developed a technique for using this SuperBright mode. I’m not too proud of it, because it’s an “ugly hack”, meaning a bit of a cheat. The ideal way to do this would be to reverse engineer the camera program, camera driver or screen driver and find out how it does this. I didn’t do this. I basically trick the system into thinking the camera is always running, hence always SuperBright.
Now, it basically works. However, and I cannot stress this enough, IT IS DANGEROUS.
Initially, I accept no responsibility for use of this program on your hardware.

I don’t know the effect of running your screen so bright for prolonged periods. However, it’s basically just enabling the camera, so if the camera works SuperBright safely, I guess this should too.
The SuperBright mode can ONLY be achieved once per soft reset. So that means, use it once, and then when you power off the Magician it will go back to normal brightness again. If you try to run your camera again, it WILL HARD RESET the Magician. Let me say that again. Hard Reset. Not soft. So take a backup before use, and use wisely, and say no to drugs. To reenable SuperBright you will have to soft reset again.
VJLumos cannot (hopefully) be shut down after it’s been run, to remind you that you’ve run it once so don’t be a fool and run the camera again. Or it will hard reset your phone. Did I mention this?
VJLumos will show you a warning on startup. This can be optionally overridden by starting the program with a command line “silent”, eg
Code:
“vjlumos.exe silent”
I reiterate. I did not want to release this program because it is an ugly hack, works only once per soft reset and can hard reset your Magician. But I’ve been asked to release it, so caveat emptor.
This program took quite a while to develop and release, so if you want to express thanks or monetary vengefulness, please feel free to send a donation to my “Buy Vijay a WM5 device so he can keep pumping out the goods” campaign.
I need to buy a WM5 device to finish developing a ton of good stuff I can’t share with you guys yet. However, my Magician’s only a few months old and my better half won’t let me spend more cash now, so if I save up, you guys will reap the rewards. My stuff will generally be free or nearly free, particularly for XDA forum users. Stay tuned for more goodies on show shortly.
Click here to make a donation.
Guys, if you use this, successfully or not, please post. I need to keep track of how it works.
Download VJLumos.exe
Update - Lite version
If the automatic version (above) doesn't work for you, please try the "lite" version. To use this one:
1. Place a shortcut to VJLumosLite in your startmenu (no installer included for now).
2. Start the camera.
3. Click the tools option (second icon in the bottom right corner).
4. Click the tools menu.
5. Choose Adjust...
6. Now go to your startmenu and run VJLumosLite.
7. Hopefully after a few seconds you'll return to the today screen in SuperBright mode.
8. If you get an error message, please PM me with details of your setup.
Download VJLumosLite.exe
Further update, camera.exe
It appears that there are different versions of the camera.exe program on our phones. I'm using ROM 1.12. If you have incompatibilies, you can download the camera.exe from my ROM here. Install it in your \windows\ folder. If there are any copyright issues I'll take it down.
V
PS Did I mention the hard reset? Don’t run the camera again after VJLumos. And backup BEFORE first use in case you forget.
PPS Oh, and if you find yourself in a strange screen with a cross on it, press hangup (the red key) or somehow go back to Today screen.
PPPS I don't recommend putting this in your startup folder. It needs to play around with the camera, and your startup may be slow, causing problems with interacting with it.
Congrats for achieving what you've done so far
Chatty, did it work with your amputated camera?
V
Well, no. It says "Couldn't start adjust dialog". That's a big hint towards how you did it ;-)
Now I'm gonna soft reset and pray I won't face an unwanted hard reset regardless what I'm doing.
I've left all debug messages in, and of course, as discussed in the other thread, that's exactly how I did it!
The camera program will obviously not start up when it doesn't find a camera then. I can't think of any other way to make it work for you.
Any chance you could have just changed the faceplate on your phone, rather than remove the camera? At work we've got some great adhesive silver foil, which I've used to cover the back of my magician (and ipod) with. It looks ok, and prevents scratching when throwing it down on the desk. It would cover the camera part well I think, and not look too poo.
Did it hardreset?
V
Luckily it didn't hard reset yet... but with Radio 1.13 I have the strange problem, that after a soft reset I get a msg like there's no driver for my BT hardware and I shall enter a name for the driver?! After a few power off/on it works again.
Changing the faceplate only would violate firm's policy I guess because you could always take away the plate, shoot photos and send them away immediately via MMS. I can faithfully admit I've got no "PDA with camera", I only got an allowed "PDA without camera". Another thing is, it's easily undoable. I needed this already for using my warranty.
Has anyone (else) tried this yet? I need to know if it works or needs deleting... please post either good or bad.
V
I can't test it because i don't know how to use the command line
If i start the file it shows me a warning message and after 3 seconds the screen return normal.
Andrea - when I said that if you don't know how to use a command line you shouldn't use it, I was just being careful. You don't need to use a command line.
Run the program. You'll get the warning. Then just click ok. What happens after that? On my system it goes through its actions for a couple of seconds, then returns to the Today screen with the new brighter screen.
V
On my magician it shows a warning message and after start camera and shows a message: "Couldn't find adjust dialog" then i press ok and there are 2 black windows open, i close them and the camera is on. I turn off camera and the screen returns to normal brightness
i'll hopefully release a simpler more compatible version tomorrow morning. Sorry you guys who are having troubles.
V
I'm waiting to test it!
Andrea, I've posted a lite version, please read the first post again and download.
All If the automatic version doesn't work for you, please PM me with your setup, eg startup programs, rom, or any special stuff you might be running. It runs perfectly on my 1.12 Magician, but I can't test it on any other. However, do try the new lite version, which requires you to manually go to the camera's Adjust... dialog, and then run VJLumosLite. It should return to the today screen in bright mode.
Oh, and I've updated the original version as well (updated version) to give it more time to find the windows it needs. Please try this version if it didn't work before, but you have had success with vjlumoslite which should work for everyone).
Please tell me if it works or not
V
Vijay, u've got a new pm!
@code72: He can see that for himself... why did you post here without any further information? This way it's useless for everyone.
Sorry Chatty i was excited.
I've sended him my configuration and the screen of error message.
(Vijay wrote: If the automatic version doesn't work for you, please PM me with your setup)
My screen capture is:
Guys, code72 got it working. It appears that we have different versions of the camera.exe program on our phones. Don't know how that happened. I'm using ROM 1.12.
If you have incompatibilies, you can download the camera.exe from my ROM here. Install it in your \windows\ folder. If there are any copyright issues I'll take it down.
Also, Code72 asked if I could update the program to prevent the Hard Reset. I'm afraid I can't, I wish I could. The hard reset happens because basically I'm forcing the camera to think it's on (even when it's off), to force the bright screen. However, then, if you try to start the camera again, it discovers that it thinks it's already on, conflicts with itself and crashes out badly. So, the only choice is not to run the camera twice... sorry guys. If I come up with a better solution, I'll post it.
V
Thanks Vijay, for me VjlumosLite works ok. The screen is very brightness wow!
I've put vijay's camera.exe file in Windows folder, i've put VjlumosLite on SD card, i've created a shortcut to VjlumosLite in start menu then:
start camera
press camera settings
press tools->adjiust
press start menu VjlumosLite and.....
Wow, u are in today screen with a very brightness screen!
has someone tried this?
Guys, I've just managed to get a Universal, and guess what? VJLumosLite works!?

Hi all, I am new to this forum.
I own a Dopod 900, and currently trying to get MS Voice Command to work properly with my unit. I believe one of the problem with this application is that it does not respond to command while the unit is in closed mode (the pda screen in inside). Is solution to this problem already available?
I have searched the forum but have not been able to find any solution. I apologize if I missed it, please kindly point me to that posting if there is any.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
- Josh :?:
From what I've read so far there isn't a fix I'm afraid. It's not fully compatible with WM2005 and will just have to wait for an update from Microsoft :-(
Thanks for your reply. That's too bad. I really have high hope that there is a solution for just this one problem, as there are already tweaks for the other problems. Being unable to receive command in closed mode really make MS Voice Command very much less usable. Too bad.
- Josh
I agree, but at least it's a step up with the other voice dial (that comes it with?). Couldn't do dialling from BT headset at all on WM2003 :-(
The "closed mode" doesn't bother me as I carry the Exec round in a Krusell case, with screen up. This allows me to instantly answer the phone when it rings (having seen who's calling first on the screen).
But there are a few more annoying problems with MS Voice Command 1.5 (I have UK version) present under Windows Mobile 5.0.
This one is unique to WM5.0:
- The first is when I try to call up a certain contact by "Show John Smith", it would show John Smith's contact under WM2003/03SE, but under WM5.0 it just shows blank screen on the Summary tab. This is still a proper contact, if you go to Notes tab, you see proper notes for this contact. You can press Edit and it will be edited... BUT, meanwhile if you just open Contact app, the ones you open are working great.
GBugger...
The following coupla' niggles are also present under WM2003/03SE.
- The days of week when answering "What date is it today" (somehow UK regional settings don't even have it, so I had to enable it in registry under NLS settings) -- all are announced correctly except Wednesday & Thursday, which are sounding simply as "Wed" and "Thu" instead of proper name.
- The signal strength for 1,2,3 and 4 "units" is announced as 30, 60, 90 and 100% correspondingly, instead of 25,50,75,100 which would seem more logical here. I don't know though if it's just caused by something real or an attempt to easily convert
That said, the application is enormously useful especially with the Krusell case, because the carrying shape for Exec in this case is PDA shape with screen up; but it's protected by screen cover of the case and you can't really write on the screen without opening the case -- so voice activation of programs and then controlling them by 5-way navigation control, is really a great way of using the Exec Examples of these programs are the eWallet (ever forgotten your PIN numbers or clothes size?) and speaking date/time, very convenient when you can't look down there.
Hopefully Microsoft corrects these small errors - the WM5.0 devices are the future.

Really, MS should have had this wrapped up ages ago. So disappointed. I want a device like the Exec, but with Voice Command fully working and A2DP sorted, and it's a shame I still can't get all this.
I was so used to the VC software on my JAM, shame the Exec is giving problems.
And I'm tired of tangling my headphones up...
MS, sort all this out already.

Copy the outres.96.dll into the windows folder and the contact will display correctly.
I'm sorry, but no, it doesn't work for me. Same effect as without outres.96.dll. And yes, I made a soft reset after copying it to the windows dir.
So the next question now is: how to remove the file again?
If I try to delete it, Resco Explorer says "Cannot delete file 'outres.96.dll'. The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file."
If the file is useless, then I want to remove it from the device. But it has been blocked by another process.
Thanx in advance
tomestos
I had the same problem but saw the answer on a forum somewhere. After you have installed the dll and do a soft reset as it reboots for a short period it does a security check on the new dll and asks whether you really want to install it, if you answer yes then you will find the blank contacts screen problem is fixed. If you take your eyes off the screen at the end of the soft reset you will miss this security question a it defaults to No after a few seconds. Hope this helps.

I have answered 'yes' to the security check. Nevertheless the dll doesn't work for me. So I want to remove it now, but I can't because it's blocked by some process.

I've copied the file gnassel suggested into my Windows directory (using the explorer on my desktop pc).... rebooted the exec.. and voila.. it's working like a charm now.. My voice command shows the contact when I say : "Lookup XXXX" or when i call someone, it confirms the person and shows his information just fine. Norte I am usin the u.s. version of voice command 1.5.
Thanks gnassel !
This is a reply to my own posting above.
I did the soft reset using an application called 'psShutXP' (maybe someone knows it; one use it in order to switch off or soft reset the device). Voice Command's contacts mask doesn't worked.
A few minutes ago I soft resetted the device using the "original" reset hole. And voila: Voice Command works as expected!
So there seems to be a difference between "soft reset" using psShutXP and soft reset using the reset hole.
Sorry for the confusion. THE FILE OUTRES.96.DLL WORKS!
By the way: What exactly does outres.96.dll?
Best regards
tomestos
Many thanks gnassel, it works great..
The file was from OzVGA
Thanks for drawing attention to it and posting it, or I wouldnt have know..
Take a thanking damnit
Guys, where do I put the outres.96 dll file again? If I am using File Explorer there is a "WINDOWS" Folder from the very root with a lot of files. Is that the folder I am suposed to put the oures.96 dll file or just leave it outside in the main root?

It's "\windows" not "C:\windows".
Best regards

Thanks everyone. I thought for a while I have to plug it in my computer too.
Well the topic says it all.
I want to add a sound to the opening and/or closing of the keyboard.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Any hacks for this? I suppose that the opening of the keyboard calls some kind of an event (since sliding it open changes the screen orientation) So can this same event call be used to assign a sound as well?
I also want to kno this and was going to ask right before I came 2 see this link...so please answer!
There are some really talented people here. I would have thought someone would have done this by now. But I assume, from lack of info, that this hasn't been considered before?
Would someone, who has the skill set to do this, consider looking into it and seeing if it is possible?
Thanks a million!!
Have a good one
Try this thread.....
Cheers!
That thread refers to the Herald, or Tmobile Wing. I found this thread and thats all I've been able to find for the Wizard or Tmobile MDA.
There may be a registry key that needs to be modified/added after installing the HTC Sliding Sounds application to make it 'active' for the Wizard.
Any ideas?
Im trying to figure it out too.. I dunno how to get it to initiate...
Need someone with the Herald (T-Mobile Wing) to help
Under HKEY\LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SlidingSound there are 2 keys 'ActiveSlidingSound' and 'SlidingSoundEffect', these are for setting which sound of the 3 available to use, I'm assuming.
Anyone out there know someone with a Herald or T-Mobile Wing that is willing to share what they have in this folder in their registry?? Maybe there's and EnableSound key or something to that effect that us Wizard users can add and we'll have a happy day!

I just checked mine and under SlidingSound, there are 3 folders... 0, 1, and 2. Each folder has 3 keys... Default, in, and out. "Default" is the name for the sounds (ex: Wind Chimes, Piano, and Xylophone), "in" is the location of the file used for when the keyboard slides in (ex: Slider0_in.wav), and the same applies to "out" for when the keyboard slides out (ex: Slider0_out.wav).
Also inside the SlidingSound folder are 2 more keys... ActiveSlidingSound and SlidingSoundEffect. ActiveSlidingSound refers to which sliding sound you want to use... so in this case it would be one of the 3 folders mentioned above (0,1, or 2). SlidingSoundEffect refers to whether or not you want the sliding sound on. (0 = off, 1 = on).
Hope this helps!
I installed the software that was made by JUVS....it does not work on my MDA.
Any other ideas? I had tried searching before I made this thread initially, and i had not seen the 2 that are discussed here. I apologize for having made a 3rd one.
Back on topic, I certainly hope this can be made to work. Any other ideas?
Thanks for all the info so far.
Later
this is a really cool idea, i would also like to know how to do it...

Thanks so much! This does help!
Unfortunately, I have the same keys on my MDA after installing the application for the SlidingSounds and it doesn't make sounds when I open the keyboard physically. I'm suspecting that the MDA is missing something, possibly a hardware switch (don't think so, though, cause it has to detect when the keyboard opens for landscape mode).
My guess is that this will not work on the MDA
Umfortunately I'm not a programmer, but I was thinking that the easiest way to get somethig like this to work would be to link the sound to play with the screen rotation instead of trying to get it to work when the keyboard is slid out which obviously isn't working anyway. It would play the sound if you rotated your screen manually, but I can't see why that would be a big deal. Maybe someone with a little programming knowledge could get this to work though.
I wanna keep this thread alive. SlidingSounds is something i wanna see work for wizards. It'll be cool if someone could craft a workaround or a new prog altogether.
Opening the keyboard is an event, shouldn't be hard to craft something to have it make a sound.
Any updates on this? I downloaded the app and it hasn't done anything, especially when messing with the registry. Thanks.
I've been working on tis as well but it seems that there is no way to adjust the registry to get it to work. I believe a app is gonna have to get the wizard to have this feature.
This would be so cool.. Alot of people have 'flip' style phones, and when they open them, they have some funny sounds. Would be great to have on the Wizard!
Anybody figured this out yet? I'm really sure it can be done.
im all about hacks for the wizard, but...
im assuming that you saw a wing and are trying to duplicate it...
WHY would you want it to do this?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!
same question for the menu pop sound?
those are the most annoying things i've seen on phone... well except for the default startup and shutdown sounds on all retail phones... when you turn off your phone, isnt because you're somewhere that you should be sure it wont be ringing/vibrating?
but on the other hand i still can't understand why people like to have the keys beep on their regular cell phones when they are txting...
sorry for the rant... i just don't get it

Maybe because we love the bells and whistles a gadget can make, it's all about your custom love that you want to have, not just everyone's universal preference. Some of us love to customize our phones to suit our personality, not just YOURS. Maybe these sounds grab attention of chicks, maybe this wallpaper makes us look cool in the sight of geeks. It's all personal prereference.
That's why I want keyboard Sliding Sounds to work. It's just one more thing that will grab the attention of people to see that, yes, I don't need a new phone every six months or so. I can make a new one using an old one by utilizing hacks.
Will be taking delivery of my HD2 today. What do I need?
File Explorer? Total Explorer? Which version? According to the website none support the snapdragon processor(unless it has a different name)
What about to change visual aspects?
Is it just a case of finding a particular .cab file, loading it onto the SD card and installing?
And how does it work? If I install (for eg) transparent slider.cab ,then decide I dont want transparent just reduced transparency, do I need to uninstall the first one and install the second?

Seriously, wait till you've had the phone for about a week before doing anything to it. You sound like a puppy that's about to go for a walk! Chill man. Get to know the phone before you start changing it, or you'll just end up asking for things that it already does!
Yeah thanks.
Any answers to the questions I asked though?

File explorer will not let you copy/move certain files, but Total Commander, or Resco Explorer will. Just get the latest version, and don't worry about the processor. They run on Windows - they don't care about the processor.
If you install theme/visual changes, there's no hard-and-fast rule about what to do to replace the changes. Some of them you can uninstall and it restores the original look. Others don't. You can usually just install a new change over a previous one, but not always. You're gonna have to just find out through trial and error, or by asking, when you have specific questions to ask.
I wasn't being dismissive earlier - there's just no straight forward answer to such ambiguous questions.
Enjoy your new phone mate. I've had mine for 6 weeks now and I still love it like it was new yesterday!

Uhh... yes it does. Menu -> Edit -> Copy/Cut/Paste/Paste Shortcut. I've got Total Commander but I only really ever use it for registry tweaks.

Uhh... just because the options are there doesn't mean they work for every file. As you quoted me saying, "File explorer will not let you copy/move certain files" (certain files, not all files).
Thanks
Uhh... You're both right!
File Explorer will NOT let you copy/move/delete certain files
However it WILL let you copy/move/delete certain files
The key is the words 'certain files'. The 'certain files' John C is referring to are, for example, most of the files stored in the Windows folder and these tend to be exactly the ones we want to delete or rename. You WILL need one of the above-mentioned apps to mess around with them.
File Explorer is fine if you're only manipulating non-System files.

I was only explaining that I wasn't wrong - he'd misread my statement. Obviously if it doesn't work for certain files then it does work for the rest. The context of the question suggests that the OP needed that explaining to him, or he'd only come back later and say "I can't copy this manila file into the windows folder", and we'd have to explain it to him then!
Bottom line, we're all right, and we're all trying to give the OP a concise answer (which I think he's got now)
Ah ok, my bad. Sorry.
Ahhh... That's nice...
Now we're all friends again, to come back to the OP's original question, I'm with John C on this. Take your time, get to know your phone and decide what you REALLY need first.
IMHO, the only thing you should install from the start is the BSB Tweaks cab (Just search the Leo forum for latest version - I think it's in a sticky somewhere). This will save you having to install a Registry Editor and installing a lot of these tweaks manually. It also makes it a lot easier to switch the tweaks on and off.
There are also some HTC updates now available (for Camera, SMS and SD Card). They have been out for a few days now and I haven't seen too many complaints, so I would say they are all safe to install...
Finally... ROM updates...
There are a couple now available from HTC. But again, unless you're experiencing a problem which you know has been fixed by these new ROMs, I would leave them alone. I've still got the original O2 ROM in my HD2 and it's working perfectly well, so I've not bothered to upgrade just yet.
All of the above is just my personal opinion. Hope you find it useful...
By the way, if you find BSB Tweaks (or any other cab that someone has invested time and effort into creating) useful, you might want to think about making a small donation. A $5 PayPal transaction is easily made, costs about the price of a pint (in the UK) and really makes these guys (and gals) faces light up!
Wont be updating the ROM. TBH I dont even know if I will be keeping the phone. I am an iPhone owner .

Now you tell us...! ;-)
Just before we all get tarred with the same brush, I'm also an iPhone owner, and will be keeping my ROM-upgraded HD2 and selling my 3GS ;-)
Got my HD2.Although Im liking(not loving) it ,there are a couple ofthings I dont like.
1) I sometimes wake up to 30+ spam emails.Do I really have to open each one and delete them individually?(havent had the phone 24 hours so happy to be proved wrong)
2) I dislike the fact that when I delete an email from the phone, it deletes from the server
3)Dont like having to mess about opening different video players depending on codec (BUT it does play different codecs so cant really complain I guess)
4) This is probably down to not having too much time to play, but how do I get the screen to turn off? Is there a setting somewhere I can turn it off after x amount of time.Or do I HAVE to press the power button?

5) Oh, and the Alarm!!! Is it possibly the worst alarm on a mobile phone ever?
Im not the heaviest of sleepers but there is a strong possibility that I would miss the 2 second alarm.

1) You can click on "Inbox" then Menu->Select Messages->Several, Choose the messages you want to mark as read then Menu->Mark as read/delete
2) I kindof makes sence to delete the email - keep the two in sync or is that only my perception on things
3) Try use one codec possibly, I'm certain there are different players out there with the ability to play a wider range its just a case of looking (sorry i don't really use my phone for music/multiple video formats)
4) Yes there is a setting settings->sound and display->backlight
5)Agreed it is rubbish I've tried G alarm because everyone seems to rave about it but i wasn't too keen but you could still try it and it does do the alarm sound for longer than 2 rings
Thanks for that Strange though because the screen is set to switch off after 1 minute. It doesn't! Was still on when I woke up this morning
