i-mate Jam turn off if i insert sim card - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Dear all ...
i have i-mate Jam if i need to insert sim card the mobile is shutdown so can any one please help me
B.R

This is normal on a Magician or equivalent device. As long as the backup battery is charged enough, removing the main battery is equivalent to doing a soft reset. If the backup battery is depleted when removing the main battery it is like doing a hard reset. One workaround is to keep the device plugged-in either by using the power adaptor or via USB before removing the main battery.
If you are switching SIM cards, make sure to switch off the radio first.

thanks brother i did that and now is okay my PDA is work thanks alot i Apprecite you

Your welcome, glad to know that your device is ok now.

XDA II Hard Reset itself when I changed battery

OK Guys lets see what you can suggest over this one!
I am a heavy user of the XDAII and as such I have 2 batteries and have had no problems in swapping batteries before. Yesterday morning (just before going on holiday) I was charging my battery in the XDAII using the powerlead and adapter and once it had completely charged I swapped it, so I could charge the spare as well. After I swapped it it decided it would hard reset itself losing all my data, software etc :x meaning a delay in me leaving as I tried desperately to put all the software back on (priority was Sat Nav and Speed Camera detector  ) as I didn't have a backup .
What happened? - I've swapped batteries many times before without a hard reset. I can only think of the following two reasons
1) I was pushing the power button as the device reset itself after putting the battery in - therefore causing the hard reset. (pretty sure I wasn't but can't be sure as I don't have CCTV  )
2) There is some form of power spike/drop that casued the hard reset as I had just disconnected the power cable from the device before removing the old battery meaning the backup battery wasn't in circuit (I doubt this one)
Incidently it appears that the SD card that was in the device at the time has been wiped - don't know if this is a seperate issue or whether this is linked (either way I was glad it wasn't my Sat Nav map data).
Any one any clues?
It sounds like the little red switch to release the battery wasnt fully slid over, or the switch in it had failed, if you disconnect the battery without this slid over fully it will hard reset the device and you loose everything,
The switch swaps the power over to the backup battery temporarily whilst you change the main battery, if it doesnt switch for some reason you loose all your data in less than a second !!
That may well have been it - I'd love to prove it but I hope you understand my reluctance

very strange problem! my PPC only works on cradle!

after trying to upgrade my imate Pocket PC edition, from 2003 to 2003se,
my ppc is starting to act strangely. the symptoms are:
1) it will not power up without attached to cradle, it acts as if there is no battery in the machine at all.
2) when it powers up (when its in cradle) it boots up fine and i can even sync it and even reflash it (although i have to use a small piece of bent pin to press the reset button which is covered by cradle itself)
3) but when i detatch the device from cradle, it just dies and the light wont even flash and format, hard and soft reset would not work.
4) when i plug in the battery seperatly into cradle (second slot)
aux battery indicator on the cradle would not light up.
can any one give me any advise?? :-(((
x2pacx, did your ROM update complete successfully? It sounds like your battery isn't being recognized by the ROM or WM. Try updating the ROM again or try a hard reset.
well.. how do i tell if the battery is not recognized by the battery?
i tried updating to many different roms and hard reset.. :-(
still no luck..
any advise anyone?

02 Xda Hard reset every few seconds and no charge

I have an 02 XDA IIs on 2003 updated to most recent software for 2003 via o2 site etc
Ok so I took my PDA away for a few days over christmas and the batterry ran down, and I had forgot the charger so obviously it wouldnt turn on.
I got home and put it in the charger cradle, and it wanted to do a hard reset, so I went through with that and after a few seconds the screen goes black and it then goes ding and up comes hard reset again.
It does not hard reset at a certain point of setup as if you do the process quicker it will still hard reset say after, 10-20 seconds, usually the same every time I think.
Whilst off the cradle, you cannot even switch it on and no light shows or soft reset does not work.
In the cradle only the above which I described happens...
Any help is much appreciated

hi.. seems to be a real trouble... anyway try to re-load the rom on it... use your wm2003 cdrom or dowload from p2p or forum wm2003 on your language, then try to flash the device following on screen infos...
hope this will help,
all the best,
storm
Have you checked your sync port?
Sounds to me like pins 20,21,22 may be damaged in your charger (sync) port, one may be touching the body of the port and causing a short, creating a hard reset. Also this might be the reason why it is not charging. IMHO regards
hi sam england
is your cradle plugged into the wall socket? usb does NOT provide enough energy for the device to 'survive' the reboot. i have this 'problem' almost every time i let i discharge to much.
so plug a good idea is to charge your device with the supplied separate charger.
hope it helps ....
regards ize|man
hardware button problam i think..............
i think that your both hardware buttons softrest and power swich are jam or lock thats why it doesn't work and because of them the phone get hardreset when ever you plugin charger or cradel
if you want any help about hardware of any htc products plz connect me on my e-mail id
if you have a cradle with the battery charger, take out your battery, charge it, and put it back in the unit
It should get through its start up routine

Battery charging problems (red light)

I've got a strange problem with my French Orange SPV M600: it doesn't seem to keep it charge. So first guest was the battery, which I changed. But even with a new battery the M600 discharges very quickly.
What did I do:
1) Put SIM-card in M600
2) Put original battery in M600
3) Connect it to the original wall plug-charger
4) Wait until red light comes up
5) Push the power button and hold it until the M600 switches on
6) Type in the PIN-code
7) Verify regularly the charge and it's state
Until here, everything goes as expected, the M600 charges the battery, although it does this very slowly, since it takes more than 24 hours to go to 100%. After that, regardlessly of if I keep the M600 attached to the charger, connect it via USB to a PC or deconnect it from any powersource, it will discharge very quickly without any initiation of a new charging cycle.
So at first glance, I though it must be the battery. So I bought a new one. It's not an original, but one from Dynapack. But with this new battery I get the same strange behavior.
I've tested off course several other different scenarios:
a) with a SIM-card
b) without a SIM-card
c) with the new battery
d) with the old battery
e) after a hard reset
f) after a hard reset and bypassing the installation of Orange specific software
g) any combination of the above.
But until now, no luck. Please keep in mind also that I've not fiddled around with ROM-upgrades, it's still the original.
So has anybody an idea of what the problem could be?
May be it is because of the charger. Borrow it from someone and charge again, see anything happens. good luck.
I wasn't able to borrow another charger, but I had another USB charger that I tried, off course, with no luck. And another universal USB-charger doesn't work either. Everytime I start a charging cycle, the M600 will charge and after a few hours charging it will show that the battery is for xxx% charged. And then after a few hours, the M600 is completely discharged.
I doubt the problem comes from the charger, since the M600 will charge. I also doubt it's the battery, since it behaves the same with another battery.
EDIT:
In all my experiments I forgot one thing: to take out the 2GB SD-Card. I did this yesterday evening, did a new hard reset and let it charge. A few hours later, my M600 indicated that it was almost fully charged. This morning, it was and instead of showing an orange or red led, it had it's led shining green, a colour that I haven't seen much lately So I suspect either the SD-Card to be faulty resulting in a very high battery drain or some program that executes itself in the background which resides on the SD-Card. So the next step are:
1) test for several days without the 2GB SD-Card: if okay, SD-Card or contents on it is suspect
2) test for several days with the 2GB SD-Card: if not okay, SD-Card or contents on it is suspect
3) if 2 is not okay, test for several days with
3a) the same card, but freshly formated
3b) another card
I'll keep you up to date.
i have the same problem as you with my M600.today i charged my M600 for about 6 hours an d my battery was 40% charged.
I hope that you adviced will be a good solution for my phone.Tomorow i'll try to fix it.
keep us up to date
hi, somebody figured out how to fix the problem? thanks
i subscribed my problem with battery. So two days ago my phone reset itself 2 times. And then was dead.So today i bought a new battery and now it works great.

Universal won't boot up anymore - recoverable?

Hey guys,
unfortunately my Universal suddenly has lost his life spark! I did a normal soft reset and after that, it didn't boot up anymore. I tried to do a hard reset, but after pressing 0 (the screen shows up though) it switched off and did nothing. Even when i plug in the charger there is no LED lighting up.
My next step of course was trying to reflash it (bootloader screen works) but the upgrade programm on the computer didn't find any device connected.
So, is there any chance or method i can somehow reanimate my phone?
Thanks in advance,

1st thing would be to test the charger with a diffrent phone if it works fine then maybe internal problem with phone, take the battery out and put your finger across the battery terminals in the phone this will fool it into thinking there is a battery present and if the mains charger is good and the phone is fine then in theory it should allow it to boot up again. if this fails you will probably need repair
with jasjar-bl1.01-ruu-v1.2 I alway restart my JJ Leave your uni i bl an start the application Good luck

Universal is able to charge only after first initializing Therefore as your device never come so fare you will not able to see any LED. Anyhow and somehow it is a good sign ( better then RED LED)
Further to your problem which was sudden switch off, leads me to think that your battery might died!! Do you still rebember what battery level it had just before switch off? Next, Do you have a spare battery to test with it? beside one more thing you could try is to take out your SIM card and Memory card and see whether you could boot up.
i tried pretty everything: spare battery, no sim/sd card, etc...
but after using the file mauric.26 has mentioned, it works again!
dont ask me why...
thank you guys!
Is the same for me I don't know why but with that file ruu-1.0....resume the uni I'm happy for you Bye
