I'd be extremely surprised if they were to offer this after they said they wouldn't. It would be a welcomed change from their part, but I have my reservations about this............
If they really would release it, then only after some time selling the most recent devices which will come with WM6.5. Would be very nice from HTC side, but i think they won´t.

htc made a thing like this before for the tytnII it upgraded it to wm6.1 after the td and touchpro are sold enough
i really hope they do. in a way, the official 6.1 upgrade gave my touch dual a new lease of life.

Precisely what a phone manufacturer doesn't want.
which is why HTC dosent let anyone flash whatever they want. its just a minority of users that come to this site and learn how to bypass CID etc.
6.1 was released for the touch dual because it went on sale in certain markets quite a while after the original 6.0 device was released.
so, fingers crossed, there are markets where the HD is still selling decently well, and HTC isnt bringing the Leo out anytime soon. It's this kind of scenario that will result in us seeing a (official) rom upgrade
i got kind of sick of using cooked 6.5 roms since they dont approach the stability of an official upgrade, which is unfortunate, but i cant tolerate that for my main phone. maybe after i get a replacement for my HD, i'll play around with upgrading it. much like what i do with my Universal after i got my touch dual. I dont use it as my critical business phone, so had fun tinkering with it!
i think everyone with an HD, that are not part of this comunity, a simply google search of: windows mobile 6.5 on touch hd, most pages that you get will have a link to xda-devs, so i hope HTC will realize that by them not giving the upgrade wont stop people from flashing it to their HD, thus better if they save all that hassle and just give the damn upgrade already
I own a Blackstone because last year our company's IT department did not certify other OS than Windows Mobile which will change soon (as Apple and Android move closer to a better MS Exchange connection).
I clearly expect from a mobile device manufacturer to keep their devices including the OS on the latrst and most current level at least for the usual time people use such devices (i.e. 2 years after purchase, if connected to a mobile provider contract). As far as I know, in many companies thie cycle is used even if there is no such connection to a provider.
To me, a company is not trustworthy that advertises the Touch HD as its "top level" device and one month later says that they will no longer support this device. It is RIDICULOUS that HTC did not even offer a ROM upgrade including the latest Manila 2.0/2.1, and this during a time period where the Touch HD was and still is an outstanding device.
Apple, by the way, offers free or cheap upgrades for their iphones which make it possible to run the latest version on the first iphones that had bveen manufactured. This does not prevent customers from buying more iPhones than aver. And I am convinced that if HTC would offer upgrades to the latest WM version or Manila version for existing devices, this would not drop sales significantly. Not offering upgrades is a fair swindle.
I am well aware that many people here stand close behind HTC and understand and tolerate the behaviour and business model of HTC much better than I do. I am using HTC devices for 5 years now and if we had not xda-developers, I would not even think of touching a HTC device again. I would certainly not buy one.
Cheers,
Eriol

You mean, the quality of Apple's phones is to be compared to the intelligence of HTC customers?
No, honestly: I understand that you are in favour of the business strategy of HTC. But I cannot really understand this. I think that customers should put much more pressure on HTC. I, for instance, will not buy a new device every year. I will get one every two years. And I know quite a lot of other people who act the same way. I am aware that especially amongst the cookers and Chief's here at xda-developers, there are quite some that are really technic-freaks and always try to get hands on the latest device available. It is not their obligation to create ROMs for older models. But I think that it is definitely an obligation of HTC to do so. Especially because HTC devices are in fact technically speaking astonishing (if I look at my old Wizard and see how fast it runs TF2D ...).

a new android device has just come out called the HTC Wildfire http://www.htc.com/uk/product/wildfire/overview.html
the design sort of looks like a desire with a few nexus one buttons.
well theres no forum for it yet so.... an administrator could make one so people that get one can use xda to tweak it.
Thanks
Its not even released yet, so I'm betting xda can wait a while. To me it seems like a hero in a different case
Yup but it is releasing soon.
hTC Wildfire Official Release Date is June 14th 2010 at T-Mobile, UK.
And it will cost about $200
I m also eagerly waiting for this device.
Had a play with a prototype last week. It had a trackball but the shipped version will have an optical track pad like the Desire.
I quite like the unibody constuction on the Legend but this means you could plug in an extended battery as you're not constained by the size of the case.
Phone looks pretty nice was thinkin about gettin it or the mytouch slide
Well I just sold my Samsung Epic and everything that goes with it. Just like my departure with HTC Hero and the HTC Vogue, I will let y'all know what my decision is for my next device.
I am going to CTIA in Orlando, Florida and I will be at the invitation only Sprint Event, so I'll get to see the new devices they are announcing. Depending on my use with the devices, rumors are HTC Evo 3D and Nexus S 4G, I will make my decision.
I am kinda leaning towards HTC Evo 3D because of it being HTC, which I now realize is better then Samsung, and it is 3D!! Without glasses.
But, the Samsung Nexus S 4G will be supported by Google and always have the latest software. So...it will really depend on which one I love more. Heck the Nexus S might end up being dual core!
Anyways, I'm sorry for the departure. I will still try to provide all the software I can get my hands on, and I will keep you updated on my status.

Well I have been defending Sprint and Samsung a little too long. I am going back to my HTC Vogue for awhile. Yeah, that old thing
I have been a HTC man from the start, but they disappointed me on both the HTC Vogue by leaving out OpenGL driver and then on the HTC Hero by ending it's support early for it, and never releasing 2.2. That's why I went to Samsung. I was hoping that the best phone by FAR would get excellent support. I was wrong.
I want to test out LG and Motorola Android devices, but Sprint isn't getting any GREAT Moto or LG devices, like the Atix/Bionix or the Revolution or the Optimus 3D. I'm with Sprint til the end. I will never switch to another company, unless T-Mobile and Sprint merge because I envy GSM devices ALOT. I don't care what happens. I love Sprint and I love their prices. I never have had a problem with them. I know I'm a Sales Rep for them, but I'm being completely unbiased here.
LG is still new to the Android game, so their support is undetermined. Will they be another Samsung/Motorola? Or will they be a HTC/Google? How about I just not take a chance.
From now on I will only buy Google flagship/supported devices or HTC devices. Sadly all the great devices from both of those go to GSM, except for the HTC Evo. The Evo blew away everyone and broke all the records. Now Sprint is probably going to do it again with the HTC Evo 3D or the Google Nexus S 4G.
Nexus S is Samsung, but it is Google supported. It will be the first CDMA Google device, if you don't count the Xoom, which I don't. The HTC Evo 3D will be the most supported by Sprint. Sprint will defintively be pumping money into that phone like no other. That's why I said I will really need to take some time and think about whether to choose the Nexus S 4G or the HTC Evo 3D. Both are going to be highly supported, the Nexus S more then the Evo 3D just because it's Google's FLAGSHIP CDMA device, but the Evo 3D will likely be the second device to get all the updates just like the first Evo did.
It will all come down to which one I like more in my hand. I will be writing a review for all the devices I try out on BriefMobile.com, and I will include my decision on which device I decide on.
Nexus S 4G vs. HTC EVO 3D
Which one will win my heart for the next 6 months? We will find out in 2 weeks when I get to see them up close and personal!
EDIT: Major +1 is Netflix support too. I have had Netflix for the past 5 months and I cannot live without it. My next phone must have it or else...

And yes, come March 21st through March 24th, I will be writing non-stop because of all the stuff I will be reviewing down in Orlando. I have numerous briefing and meetings scheduled with alot of big name companies and their CEOs.
One that I cannot wait for is my meeting with LG on the 22nd at 4pm. I will get a look at the two new devices LG will be showcasing at CTIA. And my CoolPix S80 is ready to do some work
Good luck bro. Thanks for everything you've done. Ill definitely be checking out your articles on the next devices.

Any chance you can get CarrierIQ and the ACS SFR thread some attention by putting up a short news posting?
I really would like it if we could get some attention out there for it, even if it is just purely pointing out that it exists, and that a specific Sprint / Samsung combination has it.

If you have both, sell the Evo first. I would have loved to keep my Epic, but I need money and I want something else. Something with more support too.
The price is still being negotiated, but it is basically a done deal
I'm suprised that you would even consider an lg. those and htc are the most returned phones because people break them constantly. My wife went through 3 htc moguls and an htc touch pro in 6 mths and she is not hard on her phones at all those brands are garbage. I would suggest a moto phone tho if sprint ever gets one. The nexus s 4g does look inticing.....
HTC design worries?
What has this got to do with the Desire HD? Well, considering quite a few of us are considering upgrading to the One X....maybe we should wait a while?
But wait! There's a cloud on the HTC horizon! The iPhone had antennagate, and it seems that the latest HTCs may have bendyscreengate, and possibly chippypaintgate too. As Chris Smith reports, "HTC has been rocked by a pair of reports alleging major design flaws with the new flagship HTC One X and One S Android handsets."
Buying guide
20 best mobile phones in the world today
20 best mobile phones in the world today
And we don't mean rocked in a good way, either. It seems that the HTC One X screen can be overly bendy, while some One S handsets have suffered from flaking paint, so naturally we asked HTC what was going on. "HTC takes quality very seriously and are providing all customers with an immediate fix and we are implementing some small changes to ensure customers do not experience this issue in the future", they told us.

I've got my One X and I have no issues at all.
One thing to remember, if people have a problem with anything they will go online and tell people about it. The satisfied customers do not.
Try not to read to much into it. IMO a cracking handset.
only the black one s..the grey is fine..needs a case though Slippy because its so thin!

They make great phones, the only brand I have used since vzw started selling them. They have just been mis-managed
the last five years. They have never put the necessary money into advertising to sell their product to a wider audience
the way Samsung and Apple do. The average cell phone customer probably has never heard of HTC.

who the hell cares if he's right
consider this the HTC One was released early this year, it's indeed 2013 phone of the year, ask any SGS3 / SGS4 convert
if HTC is indeed in the red knows, this gives them two years before sale or change of owner ship or even going private, even then under a new form they are most likely to continue operation (they are Taiwan's most prized)
until then? plenty of time for the world to enjoy the HTC One and the software updates are flowing like water
so enough drama, this phone is fulfilling it's job for this year and the year to come
It's the phone of the year, 90% of the world's press agree, otherwise you are missing out
Thata boy HTC!
DESERVED!
This went downhill pretty quickly
The topic here is the HTC One winning awards. Criticising other manufacturers, or even talking about their rumoured acquisition is not supposed to be here. Promoting Samsung shouldn't be here either. You can talk about whether the One deserves the awards, but I think a battle between the manufacturers belongs elsewhere.
I'll be watching the thread.
After giving them another try after the Desire HD (Inspire 4g in 'Murica). The One X and One have both been incredible pieces of hardware. How they have not been more popular I'll never know.

I think this is a huge win for HTC.
This is a software win as well which is, to say the least, mind blowing. I never thought HTC would get here. Sense finally has gotten to the right balance of being functional without being intrusive and lagging the device. The speakers are great and all but what really makes this device is the amazing software that powers it.
You have to give it to HTC for optimization when you see their underclocked Snapdragon 600 chip device (both CPU and GPU) that is running the older LPDDR2 memory take out devices with faster clock speeds and faster memory in every day performance. HTC has struggled with that since the Windows Mobile days and they've finally found their balance.
HTC won me over with the One. And I swore off HTC after the disaster that was the Sensation... Hopefully they can keep churning out winning devices! :highfive:
I like how HTC being not famous...makes it even more unique having their product...poor those enslaved by samsung plasticky, well I am one before One X and the One
