Hi,
I have the Hermes. All my networking works just fine when roaming. When I plug the hermes into the PC via USB it connects to ActiveSync but cannot sync with my exchange server (mail2web). I get a pop-up error on the PDA to do with "server assigned IP". I stopped this by going into Network Connections on the PDA and setting "Remote-NDIS Host" to use specific IP instead of automatic (IP: 169.254.2.1, subnet: 255.255.0.0, gateway blank) as advised on some other forums.
But I also still get the message below when trying to use the internet on the PDA when synced:
"The current connection cannot be used for your request..."
Basically, I don't have internet access while synced. This is annoying as I'm trying to write a TV guide app in C# which pulls xml from bleb and debug on the Hermes. But can't do this while I can't get internet.
Anyone know how to fix this?
btw - I am using ActiveSync 4.5 beta
Ok, so looks like it's a bug with Activesync 4.5 beta. I've downgraded back to v4.2 and all is fine again.

Hi all
Firstly apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere. Searching bluetooth returns ... too many results to sift through.
OK, I have this setup. I connect my laptop to the net using either the router OR network cable. My laptop is equipped with BT.
Is there any way to browse the net from my PDA, by establishing a BT connection from XDA2 to the Laptop?
I know it would be a doddle (I hope) if I were to purchase a wifi SD card, but if I can avoid the expense it would be great.
Thanks in advance.
One way would be through BlueTooth ActiveSync. As when in the cradle, when your PPC is connected to your PC through ActiveSync, internet connectivity is through the PC. I use it whenever I am in proximity to my BT laptop. Works well!
If you go to Options in ActiveSync, click the Rules tab, check Open ActiveSync when my mobile device connects. and have the Connection set to The Internet or Work depending how your network is set up. Then establish an ActiveSync connection (USB, serial, Bluetooth or IrDA) and it will allow you use Internet programs like PocketIE, Pocket Outlook, etc.[/b]
I thank you both for your very very quick response.
Yes, both methods work. YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I am one happy bunny.
Cheers
Going insane bluetooth activesync internet
I wish I could be so happy. Let me give a brief overview of the last 6 hours:
Installed bluetooth dongle on the work PC - eventually got it connecting to the XDA2.
I have now managed to get a connection with activesync which seems to be quite robust and synchronises ok.
I am now trying to get on the internet via my active sync bluetooth connection (and tearing my hair out)
My network management is now set to a new connection I have created call 'My Work' no modem set up with the proxy settings set to those required on my work LAN. No VPN set up.
Have set the pass through on the PC to work, internet and open activesync to enable and disable but can't get ti to connect. Please help!!!!!

maybe it's a firewall issue
try messing around with the ping program
on your pocketpc and see if you can ping the ip of your computer
and on it's gateway and dns
also make sure your dns settings on your pocketpc is set to the same as your pc
pocket ping
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=11879
Thanks for the advice. Bit stumped really:
My PC has a static IP address (10.130.16.84) I run pocket ping on the XDA and it says it's IP address is 192.168.55.101 the network is DHCP enabled. Neither of them can ping the other one (so there is no way I can connect to the proxy from my XDA2). Any ideas why my IP address isn't in our LAN range.
Just out of interest I can use a Dell X3i and connect to the network wirelessly no problem at all.
Further to baffle everyone - If i disconnect bluetooth and cradle it. I get the same Ip address but can connect to the internet no problem! So this would lead me to believe that all the connection and activesync settings are correct.
not sure here are some guides
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=449
Thanks for the help but the guides didn't fix the problem.
I eventually got it working (and a better bluetooth connection in the process) by downloading the slightly newer version of the XTND Blue Manager software http://www.windigosys.com/support.htm
I can now suft the internet on the XDA over activesync and syncrhonise files ok. Slightly slow but this I expect with what is basically a glorified serial port!
The only slight niggle I have now is that ActiveSync always reverts back to COM1 as the default port when I reboot my machine. Is there any way to stick it to com3?
it's blazing away at 700K/sec at least so the specs says
Isn't network access from the PocketPC trough (USB) ActiveSync-Connection possible? I don't get it working. With my old iPAQ (Widcomm Bluetooth Stack) i can use the Bluetooth Network for full network access. I tried PocketLANce but it's only a "remote network" for the host.
Any ideas to get my MDAc really bound in the network?
you have many things to try:
1. in your device.. go to Start>Settings>Connections>Advanced then Select Networks... and choose the internet or work... one of them should work for you..
2. at the same time, if you are using ActiveSync 3.7 or 3.8 ... go to Options>Rules> and make sure the pass through options is checked and matches the same network you choose on your PPC (ie. work & work )
3. for best results, I'd suggest upgrading into Active Sync 4.1 , which does all the work for you automatically
Hope this helped
cheers
I WOULDN'T upgrade to 4.1
Even microsoft reccomend not to use it for anything other than WM5 as it (4.1) is so monumentally crap!
although I would do the rest of it.
as long as passthrough is set to automatic it should work. Did with mine anyway!
I use ActiveSync 4.1 (since it was released) and i never had problems with it (only with 4.0 and my firewall).
I can access the internet from my MDA, but not the LAN. I want to sync with the Exchange Server, without a partnership on the PC. I get the CONNMGR_36 Error
As the Exchange-Server, i entered \\IP-Adress and used Certchk to disable the Certificat Check.
I got it working! I got my MDAc syncing with the Exchange without a partnership with the computer!
Thank you for your help, and btw, you need AS4 for this.
A good site for error codes:

I don't have problem accessing the LAN (Both USB and BT connection). eg: I can open my songs and video using TCPMP with address: "http://172.18.0.2:8080" (I configure my apache to listen to 8080 instead of 80)
P.S. I am also using the latest Activesync 4.1 (it's slow but I always want the latest)
I want to setup a LAN over USB between my Magician and my PC, with static IP's, but i don't know how. At WM5.0 the PPC takes automatically an IP, but on 2003SE?
Hello,
I have had a problem for quite some tome now with exchange server sync and my qtek 9100.
we have wifi at work and I can sync fine with exchange server, however when my phone is docked and connected to my pc it will sync with the pc but not with the exchange server. It complains about a netork problem when cconnecting and I presume it some clash with the LAN connection created via the pc and the pc wifi. I had accepted this and left it at that until recently I did a sync at home where I have a very similar wifi setup. the fone is connected to the pc and does a sync with both the pc and exchamge server fine. both the fone wifi and pc wifi were on and a LAN connection was also created with the pc and phone aswell, yet the phone was syncing fine.
Can anyone shed some light as to what is wrong with my work/phone setup so that it will also sync with the server when docked. The only differnce in setup is that my work wifi on the phone settings is for `WORK` and the home one is for `THE INTERNET`

After Some digging on the forums I found the following threads which have solved the problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47031&highlight=exchange+server+sync
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=47874&highlight=exchange+server+sync
This then brings up the question of what does it mean to be connected to "Work Network", "The Internet", and "Automatic" in the Active Server Settings?
PROBLEM SOLVED, APPEARS TO BE A NETWORK ISSUE
New question posted in second post.
I've searched the forums and the internet extensively without any help so here I am, asking for the community's help.
I can activesync just fine (ActiveSync 4.2) and am able to connect to the internet just as well from my Wizard via WiFi however I am unable to access the internet from my Wizard via ActiveSync passthrough.
I have selected "This computer is connected to the internet" in ActiveSync and, when viewing my network connections, I see the ActiveSync connection is in working order (IP address: 169.254.2.2).
I am unable to connect to the internet as well as my LAN because I tried pulling up my router's web interface in PIE only to receive this error:
"Unable to connect due to an unknown error [some crazy error number]."
I'm unable to connect to the internet with any application (tried sending email, updating pocket weather, egress, etc).
I've also uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync.
I haven't always had this problem and I can only think of two things I've done in the interim: I'm at a different house thus my desktop connects to a different network and I've installed (and subsiquently uninstalled) HitchHiker b.41.
Anyone have any ideas?
it is a network issue..
EDIT: I'm ridiculous.
After trying it out at work, I'm left to assume that the problem is a network issue (I'm able to connect at work).
This, however, brings me to a different question. I currently have four network connections set up: Blank, MEdia Net, My Work Network, My ISP. I have "Blank" set as the connection to use for both programs that connect automatically to the inernet as well as for those that connect automatically to my work network EDIT: this is my problem ... I had to set up "programs that connect to my work network ..." to use the work network connection (obvious?) I always assumed this meant programs that would only be accessing my work (I.E. a VPN client).. My question is that in order for me to connect to the internet from work, I have to add my proxy settings to the "Blank" connection. Adding them to the "My Work Network" connection does nothing. This leads me to believe that setting the "This computer connects to ..." dialog in ActiveSync accomplishes nothing. Can anyone help me with this? I'd like to connect using my work proxy while I'm at work and no proxy while I'm at home (is that too much to ask) but, apparently, selecting the appropriate value in the "This computer connects to" dialog in ActiveSync isn't enough.
Hello,
at first, sync via USB worked fine, although slowly. Now my Tytn doesn´t sync whatever I do: First I upgraded Activesync to 4.2 and then to 4.5 Beta and no go. Tytn always connects, but at the beginning of sync after a message saying "aquiring settings" appear, it gives an error message about connection problems. Activesync problem diagnostics tool gives an error about not getting an IP address (for Tytn?), and I have tried all the possibilities I have found from the web: disabled advanced network functionality, reinstalling Activesync and so on. The problem is the same with bluetooth and IR sync. DHCP client is running.
Any ideas?
Have you checked your firewall settings??
Just a thought

Done the same thing on my unit.
You will need to do a full reset and after that it was fine.
