Activesync passthrough not working.. - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

PROBLEM SOLVED, APPEARS TO BE A NETWORK ISSUE
New question posted in second post.
I've searched the forums and the internet extensively without any help so here I am, asking for the community's help.
I can activesync just fine (ActiveSync 4.2) and am able to connect to the internet just as well from my Wizard via WiFi however I am unable to access the internet from my Wizard via ActiveSync passthrough.
I have selected "This computer is connected to the internet" in ActiveSync and, when viewing my network connections, I see the ActiveSync connection is in working order (IP address: 169.254.2.2).
I am unable to connect to the internet as well as my LAN because I tried pulling up my router's web interface in PIE only to receive this error:
"Unable to connect due to an unknown error [some crazy error number]."
I'm unable to connect to the internet with any application (tried sending email, updating pocket weather, egress, etc).
I've also uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync.
I haven't always had this problem and I can only think of two things I've done in the interim: I'm at a different house thus my desktop connects to a different network and I've installed (and subsiquently uninstalled) HitchHiker b.41.
Anyone have any ideas?

it is a network issue..
EDIT: I'm ridiculous.
After trying it out at work, I'm left to assume that the problem is a network issue (I'm able to connect at work).
This, however, brings me to a different question. I currently have four network connections set up: Blank, MEdia Net, My Work Network, My ISP. I have "Blank" set as the connection to use for both programs that connect automatically to the inernet as well as for those that connect automatically to my work network EDIT: this is my problem ... I had to set up "programs that connect to my work network ..." to use the work network connection (obvious?) I always assumed this meant programs that would only be accessing my work (I.E. a VPN client).. My question is that in order for me to connect to the internet from work, I have to add my proxy settings to the "Blank" connection. Adding them to the "My Work Network" connection does nothing. This leads me to believe that setting the "This computer connects to ..." dialog in ActiveSync accomplishes nothing. Can anyone help me with this? I'd like to connect using my work proxy while I'm at work and no proxy while I'm at home (is that too much to ask) but, apparently, selecting the appropriate value in the "This computer connects to" dialog in ActiveSync isn't enough.

Connecting to my wireless Network via Wizard

I can connect to my wifi network just fine, however I am having problems connecting to the shared network (aka shared files and folders). Anyone have any ideas? I tried using GSFinder but kept having issues stating my connection was not correct.
I searched the forum and could not find anything.
Two things I can think of:
1) Your WiFi connection is configured for 'The internet' while in Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network Selection->Programs that connect to the network
you have something other than 'My ISP'. Those settings have to match.
2) Download PocketLAN. It will only run 10 days if you don't by it, but it's a great network utility for mobile devices. Shows you the network just like desktop windows and lets you run commands like ping etc.

Having trouble with passthrough..

I've scoured the forums to no avail ...
My problem is this: I sync up at home and at work. When I'm at home, I've been able to connect to the net through passthrough until recently. I've determined the problem with why I can no longer sync at home is due to a local network issue (unavoidable). I've also been syncing up at work through a proxy. That is, up until the other day. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing is right. Basically, I have my "programs that connect to the internet" set to a blank profile, while my "programs that connect to a VPN" set up to "My Work Network" that has my company's proxy in it. I have my activesync at home set to connect to the internet, and my activesync at work set to connect to work. Why can't I connect at work any longer? I'm very confused by the whole thing (what does setting your computer's activesync to "work" change on your PPC, how does "work" know to use "my work network" ... that sort of stuff) and I would greatly appreciate the help.
EDIT:
I've resolved the issue but not logically.
Basically, I played around with it to figure out what settings it uses when it connects each time. At first I could connect when I applied my proxy settings to the profile I use for "programs that connect to the internet." This seemed to make sense because, after some research, I've found out that the work profile should only affect intranet addresses. After some tinkering, that stopped working, so I applied the proxy settings to both that and my work profile. After some more messing around (stopped working for a time), I ended up clearing the proxy out of both profiles, and putting it back into my work profile. It is now working. I'm glad but I'm still confused. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Isn't the work profile only supposed to affect internal addresses? If so, why am I now connecting through the proxy properly even though my internet profile (in this case, a profile named "blank") no longer has any proxy information?
In addition to all of this, I'm having a problem that, it seems, is very common and that is that I always get the "unable to get server-assigned IP address" dialog whenever I connect via activesync even when I'm able to passthrough.
bump
bump for post edit.

WiFi and GPRS

For some reason I can connect to the internet very easily through GPRS (even when roaming), but at home with my own wirelss LAN, I can connect with no problem, but each time I try to access anything on the internet, I get a pop-up stating "Could not locate remote server". I don't have a router, I am using a desktop as the gateway, I am currently accessing the net with my laptop through the same means. All configurations for the LAN appear to be correct, but I must be missing something on the JAMin. In the WiFi settings, I see the LAN, almost full signal - Ad hoc Mode - status is connected - I'm assigned an IP ... seems like everything is in order.
Will one of you wizards point out what I've missed? I know it's probably simple, usually is.
If I'm having trouble connecting a device to a network that has previously been working ok, the first that I do is turn off all network security i.e WEP, MAC address filtering etc. Then reboot the wireless access point/router and your device. If you still can't connect, you can start to blame your device.
Don't think it's a network prob...
Thanks Matterhorn, but my laptop is still connected fine, no problems there... I get the feeling that the PPC's only recognising the GPRS as a valid network for internet access... it works okay when I login to a commercial WiFi network (when I'm in the States) but for some reason on my own network here at home, it logs in, just can't find a server for some reason. The first thing I thought of was the firewall, turned it off and still no luck.
Any other ideas? I thought maybe there was a setting for default AP or connection, but can't find it, nor can I find an appropriate reference in the manual. Ugh!
Resolved!
It would seem my JAMin was trying to access the internet not through the gateway, but through my laptop. As I don't have the laptop setup to share an internet connection, it would allow my JAMin to connect, but that was all. I went in the room where my desktop is, registered on the network there and bingo!
Too simple, should have tried that right away but it didn't occur to me at the time. Thanks for the help anyway Matterhorn!

ppc (using USB activesync cable) to access the internet thru LAN?

i have an i-mate Jasjar wm5, I am using USB activesync cable to connect my device to my desktop PC. I would like to access the internet using LAN-DSL in my office.
Any idea or suggestions on how to do it?
Suggestions, insights, or any kind of guidance is highly appreciated.
unless you have set it to block it
then your device connected to activesync will allways have the same
lan network access as the pc
you prob have to change connection in settings->connection->connection advantage and pick mynetwork rather then my isp

thanks for the quick reply. activesync (v4.5) is on the exceptions list of windows firewall, hence it is not blocked.
My Work Network connection settings (modem and VPN) is empty. do we have to input any settings on them (modem and/or VPN)? On the proxy settings - I checked the box for 'This network connects to the Internet', I did several tests on unchecking/checking the box on 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' - tried both IP of my desktop PC (192.168.1.12) and default gateway (192.168.1.1) on ports 8080, 80. I noticed though - the box for 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' - always goes unchecked everytime I go back to check the settings.
i did several test settings, but it doesn't worked either. always it says 'This page cannot be displayed, connection was lost check settings'
any idea on these? thanks for your time
guess you could try changing the dns to what the pc is using
and try with other applciations like the network tools ping
and messenger to see if it's a IE issue
I also want to connect to internet through activesync 4.5 usb
hi, i have the same problem, i want to connect to internet through activesync 4.5 and wm5 herms. i am not good a computer use so could you please guide me step by step. i can synchronize but can't use internet.
if its through the office network, you may need to play with some settings to "fool" the office network to let you out.
The way to check what im talking about is to download http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/ portable firefox, and see if it connects by default. In my office, i had to input the LAN proxy settings into firefox to make it work. If this is the same for you, then i guess you'll have to do the same on the PPC. If you do find that this is the problem, and you cannot connect with firefox, post back and ill see if i can help
Turn off "Advanced Features"

There's a setting in ActiveSync "Advanced" and uncheck the box. See if that helps. It apparently has helped others with USB connection issues.
rightclick on ActiveSync icon on systemtray --> connection settings... ---> config as my pic you can access internet thought your PC. If you still can't connect to internet please hardreset your PDA

Broken network stack? IE stuck at locating...

Hi,
I tried to connect my tytn to my wifi network for the first time yesterday, and couldn't get any web pages to load.
I was connected to the router, and had an IP address assigned by DHCP, but whenever I tried to load any pages in IE, it sat at 'locating' for ages and then errored.
I thought nothing of it and thought I'd give it another try later. But since then, I get the same problem when I try to browse via activesync. The device syncs properly and is connected, but I can't load any web pages.
My first thought was a DNS problem so I've tried setting some static servers but I'm not getting anywhere. I tried 'Microsoft Network Analyzer' which gives me ticks in all the tests (even the one where it pings www.microsoft.com, when I can't browse to there).
I'm now thinking that when I'm connected via activesync it's still trying to use the wifi connection somehow (even though it's turned off). In the network adaptors, wifi is set to DHCP but has an ipv6 address in the box under static IP (odd, as my router doesnt use ipv6).
I'm pretty lost now. I could do a hard reset but I've got a feeling I'd end up in the same place when I next try to get wifi to connect at home.
Any ideas?

Check your connection settings. Some carriers have proxies enabled for your GPRS connection. If you have proxy active, you will not be able to connect through a router. AT&T does this, for example.
Yep, that was it!
My GPRS was set up under 'My Work Connection', and had a proxy server. I disabled the proxy and activesync started working.
So I completely cleared out the 'My Work Network' connection, and added a new one for my providers GPRS which made activesync work. I then set the preferred networks to Work first, then GPRS second, and everything works.
Thanks
