UK XDA Exec incarnation for sale - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Has all original packaging and manuals, couple of spare styli, charger, data cable, unused case etc, it all works, there are a few cosmetic marks (no scratches on the screen), but they’re just that - cosmetic, don’t affect the function in any way shape or form. These will be well detailed in photos which I'm taking over the weekend.
There are two small dents in the metal plate on the back of the screen (they have to be small, any half decent sized dent there cracks the screen), and a small rub mark where I mistakenly put keys and XDA in same pocket once.
The black has rubbed from the outer corner of each hinge bit (the bits which protrude upwards from the main body/keyboard section of the device), and the usual shiny spots above/below the screen, and on some keys.
Collected today from the O2 shop after going away for repair - there was a problem with the headset socket which made the phone think that the headset was still plugged in - the phone has a brand new circuit board installed, and has also had the hinge tightened up. It may or may not have had the screen replaced, there is a sticker over it with the hinge instructions on, which I haven't removed, so I don't know if it's a new screen or not - no scratches or unreliable spots though - works like a charm.
Includes 2GB SD card, and would consider including the dual sim adapter too.
Asking £200, but open to offers (including 8GB ipod nano 2nd generation)
Delivery in UK = parcel2go.com next day insured to £250 = £12.99 + VAT (£15.26)
Alternatively your choice of courier/delivery method if insurance is adequate or you're happy for it to go uninsured (you'd be mad to, but there you go)
Delivery is possible outside the UK, but talk to me to discuss postage
Bank transfer or paypal accepted, cheque possible, but dispatch would have to wait until cheque cleared.

Is this still for sale?

The XDA Exec Stylus broken again sheeez!

Hi all, I have broken the plastic part off the stylus...again
Anyone know if there is a solid stylus available instead of the poorly designed stylus supplied. Yes I know it is because they had to make it black to match the case, but I would have rather had a silver coloured stylus that lasted.
Why they didn't make a completely solid stylus I don't know; other than to generate sales of stylus pens, but they wouldn't do that would they?
I've even thought about manufacturing some to sell. Would anyone buy such a thing? :?:
funny you mention it, i had to do stylus repairs last night,
the black bit has started to come out of ppc without the rest of the stylus attached,
Tools used for repair : part of a rizla.
I teared enough rizla off to do one lap around the stylus, after licking the gum of course, then banged the black bit back in, now i cant seperate them so i think ive done enough for it to last a while longer now
Maybe you can try one of the replacement styli. The one with a ballpen on one end which translates to THE BALCK PART REALLY IS REMOVABLE so you cannot really BREAK it and not put it back. It's a ballpen cap

I'm using that pen/stylus now and another advantage (as was noted on another post in here somewhere) is that the pen/stylus is much more secure in the device than the original stylus. I never had the original one fall out like some have metioned, but now there's not rattle either.
I don't know it the loose fitting stylus was unique to a particular branding, but I have the i-mate Jasjar.
where do you get one of these stylus pens please?
I dunno if this is what kelfor has but you can check www.ppctechs.com or www.expansys.com or any other PDA online shops.
hi all just a follow-up to this post I purchased some styli from expansys, the package was damaged and looked old, or at least poorly stored, 2 came broken the other was fine, I also bought some finger styli for my father - dads and gadgets eh! anyway 2 were missing and again the box looked old and tatty. I reported this and instead of sending me replacements they gave me a refund, they didn't seem at all bothered about it, so I took my business to eBay. I won't be buying from expansys in a hurry.
eBay on the other was excellent bought it from china and was delivered faster than expansys; top service.
PS: stylus and exec are doing fine and I'm really impressed with the xda exec update from O2, it works better than when I had the corp install running.
I purchased one of the ones with a ball-point pen in it, and it was such a bad fit that i had to use a pair of needle-nosed pliers and a lot of force to get it out again!

I lost one the other day somewhere around my local Tesco's!... Perhaps thats why they ship with a spare
The only one I've broken so far is the stylus-tip off of a $10 ballpoint one. The ballpoint and top's fine, but I can't use it *as* a stylus anymore. Dropped it onto tile floor in the line at the local supermarket... Oops. Meanwhile, the glue holding the black top bit in my original stylus has come loose, but it's still a tight wenough fit that the stylus works properly. Since I have an MDA Pro, I'd prefer a silver coloured tip anyway.
ther is an all metal 1 floating about, its a nice black 1, cant mind wer i seen it though, but ther is 1 out ther!

Prophet replacement housing

I've dropped my Jamin a few times and since the OEM case doesn't protect the corners of the phone, the housing looks like crap. So, I decided to look for a replacement housing.
Can't remember if I saw the post on here or at howardforums.com, but someone had pointed out that this place sells Dopod/Qtek housings.
http://cnn.cn/shop/dopod-e818-housing-p-704.html
I ordered a case and paid via Paypal. The order went thru fine but then the order status page was stuck on "payment received" for about a week and a half. I sent an email asking when my housing would ship and suddenly a shipment notification email arrived the next day. Don't know if that's a coincidence or not, but it shipped and that's what matters.
Received the case today and I was surprised to receive an O2 XDA case instead of a Dopod or Qtek housing. Actually, this was a good thing because I think the O2 logo is much more attractive than Dopod or Qtek.
I popped open my Jamin, swapped out all the guts into the new housing and pressed the power button. My Jamin still works!
But there's a problem...the stylus is REALLY loose in the new housing! #@%$#@!! I'm positive I didn't have any extra parts left over when I put the thing back together! I crack open the housing again to see what the cause is. Comparing the old and new housing (the middle piece, since that's where the stylus resides), I see that the new housing is missing a little white plastic part that holds the stylus. Unfortunately that little piece is welded onto the old housing! Lucky for me, the middle piece of my old housing only has very small anf faint scratches. So instead of trying to remove the welded stylus holder, I elect to reuse the middle piece of my old housing. Put everything back together again...problem solved!
My Jamin (now XDA) looks like new again. Overall, I think it was money well spent.
BTW, I used these instructions (linked in wiki) to help me change the housing.
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=b2088e44f8506a561c3db87e1bb575d4&showtopic=240109
IMO, the instructions could be much better. When I have time, I think I will write a better set with more pictures.
My cases are orange m600 OEMs, but logos can be removed easily, and include the stylus latch in the chassis as well as fascia buttons. And they are about $20 cheaper ;-)

Personal "issue" regarding PDAir Aluminium Case and T-Mobile Vario IV

Thought id make a post to let anyone thinking of getting a PDair aluminium case for the Vario IV (UK) know about my experience with it.
I Recieved my vario just over a week ago and untill this morning i have kept it completely unblemished.
My black aluminium case arrived through the post this morning and upon inspection seemed to be just what i was looking for. the neoprene within the lower part of the case seemed to hold the phone snugly and the catch was firm, ensuring the case wouldnt open accidently and drop my phone. the one thing i did notice was the lack of neoprene on the upper part of the case (read lid), but after looking at a few pictures on the web and vids on youtube i noticed that this was standard on the case and not an error with mine personally.
So i continued to use it sucessfully, flipping the case open to slide the screen and use my keyboard, untill this evening after about 8 hrs of usage i noticed three deep scratches froming on the side of the screen part of the phone near the volume buttons. however on the lower part of the screen part of the phone, above the usb port a particularly nasty scratch has formed measuring 2cm in length. needless to say I am not happy, as the case i bought to protect my phone has caused this much damage.
I have emailed the supplier, hopefully it may be a fault with my case and that a replacement may work fine, but eitherway i felt it was worthwile reporting this to the community incase it saves someone else from getting their phone wrecked.
BTW anyone know of a way of polishing out the scratches i now have?
the only way i know of is to use an extremely high grit sandpaper or use a buffer.
I also got the PDAir Case and mine has got neoprene in the lid as well! I use it for 2 weeks now and no scratches on my phone.
But I have to admit that I don't use the clip provided with the case but carry it arround in this case: HTC Pouch Case
where did you get your aluminium case? i checked the pdair website and it states the tmobile vario IV case as "coming soon".
As an update, after i fired off a rude email to the store i bought the case from they said that the case i recieved was the wrong one and that the one for the tmobile vario IV isnt out yet, so i sent it back to them and recieved a full refund, which would be fine except the scratches i now have as a momento of that shop.
Think ill buy the case directly from pdair in the states and get it shipped over when they are out, save on alot of trouble
I got mine from ebay. But there are several other shops selling "PDAir" Cases that all look some different... Maybe mine is a fake - a good one ;-)

anyone else? N4 box already opened (did not link acct)

My N4 came today (sorry to those still waiting) and I was wondering if the box for anyone else had already been opened? I had two strips of black tape holding the box shut (could easily see the one below had been cut). There was also a bunch of dust and a hefty scuff on the film covering the screen. My account was not linked during purchase.
Did they do this for everyone to apply an update or something, or did I get a RFB phone marketed as new? (bought from playstore)

That sounds shady.. I'd call them about it and inquire as to why you received something that had been tampered with.
Definitely call them. Someone tampered with it either during packaging or shipping. It could be the shipping company so don't jump to conclusions, but photograph the box how it came and photograph the phone itself. Call Google support and ask them if they can replace it since it came like that. You should have the receipt to show you received it and called them the same day also. You may have to email or fax them the photos and receipt. Good luck and I'm sorry that happened to you!
the phone seems fine so far, and I did a factory reset just to make sure there wasn't anything weird installed. The tape used was the same type that the box is supposed to have, so someone at LG had to have done it (since google doesn't handle the phone itself). So the box was "sealed" but clearly after it had already been opened once.
The book, charger, cable, and SIM tool were all either sealed or had the film still on them.
Very odd...
Thanks for your input
Actually, I would say you got lucky and should definitely keep it. The reason is that you probably did get an RMA unit, which is a GOOD thing and here is why....
Before defective/returned units can be restocked and used as RMA units they have to be shipped from Google back to LG, where they are then inspected and repaired (if necessary). Once this is done they need to be tested then shipped back to Google. As you can imagine, this process takes many weeks and usually months. Therefore, any RMA units that are sent out at this time will be brand new phones.
And here is the plus side I alluded to in the beginning... From my past experience in dealing with Google I've learned that RMA units are pulled from their original packaging then hand inspected and tested. Once every single thing checks out they are then put back in the box (with the second black sticker) and ready to be used as an RMA unit. Because of this you can pretty much guarantee that your RMA unit should be absolutely perfect.
Of course there are always exceptions but this is why I actually prefer RMA units. :good:
mine was like this as well, and i received mine weeks ago during the first Nov batch. black tape was cut, new black tape/sticker applied. i was also missing the bezel protection film (only had front and back)... no problems with the unit though... looked brand new.
might be part of a random QA inspection
Mine was from the first batch and had two layers of tape without the bezel film. Its been great, I wouldn't worry about it
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Thanks guys, I feel better now. The "scuff" i had mentioned initially was actually a little bit of residue on the front film. I'm guessing there was a sticker there, and it had to be pulled off when tested. As you said, there was no side film, just front and back.
:highfive:
I don't think a large number of these N4's came with the side film anyway. Both my original and my RMA unit didn't have it and both coworkers phones didn't have it either. It appears that the norm is to not have the side film.
No side film here either..
sent via xda premium with Nexus 7 or Nexus 4!
I wouldn't worry. I got in on the first order of phones and got 2 (one for myself and the other for the girlfriend). I got it a week later and both boxes were double-taped with one layer having been cut (and taped over). Because I was on the first batch, they were definitely new units.
From what I understand, it's likely due to random quality checks. They probably open a box once in a while and check to make sure that there aren't any problems. For the record, though, while my girlfriend's is good, mine came with a few problems (namely the yellow blotches from the glue) so I had it replaced. My replacement came and had dust and a few scuffs on the film, but so far so good! Oh, and none of the three had any film on the sides (only the front and back).
mines had tape on the UPS packaging tied with the shipping label on it.
On the inner box, 2 strips of black tape on each side with screen film on front and back.
I wouldn't worry about it though, as long as everythings good. No reason to delay yourself by another couple weeks just because the box tape was tampered?
Received mine today. Opened the courier's shipping packaging and the whole lot fell straight out!
The 2 black tabs were fine but the the narrow side of the box opposite to the white label had been cut open through both the outer and inner boxes (not even neat cuts). The internal packaging was pretty beaten up as well. The phone seems fine, save for common issues so I'm not sure whether to take any further action, just disappointed that someone thought it was acceptable. Cannot work out why this would have happened, why cut it open on the side?! Any ideas? Thanks.

[Q] Which replacement screen/digitizer/housing??

I'm reposting this as a question, so that it gets bumped back to the front page (was sitting on page 6 after just over 1 complete day), and to hopefully get more views and some help. Thanks.
*************
So last week, I accidentally dropped my naked note 3 about 1.5 feet to a concrete sidewalk. Very little visible damage on the outside, but sadly, over the span of about 24hrs, the screen slowly faded to black (starting from the bottom left, where the most ammount of damage is visible, across the screen in a circular pattern), and now the screen appears to be completely dead. During the time in which the screen went black, the digitizer still worked, as I could still get the phone to register spen clicks on even the black areas of the screen (i.e. i could still get air command to pop up). There is also zero damage to the glass itself. No scratches, skuffs, or marks of any type. Looks brand new. And I've already tried getting the warranty to cover this. Its not.
So I'm currently in the market for a replacement screen/digitizer/housing assembly, should the repair centre quote me more than $275 + taxes to fix.
I'm going with a complete housing, because while I'm sure its simply the LCD screen portion that's no longer working, those in themselves cost upwards of $250. And it would require me to seperate the glass from the housing/digitizer, and then reseal them with the new one. I figured it would be much more cost effective to simply buy the whole package pre-assembled for $25 more.
Problem is, you can get different housing part numbers depending on which version of the phone you have (verizon, at&t). So my question is this:
Will it matter if I purchase the cheapest version? As an example, the AT&T black housing is 275, but the Verizon Black housing is 289. The last thing i want to do is fork over the money and find I ordered the wrong part.
I'm from Canada, and sadly our carriers are never recognized in these bloody situations. I'm with Bell, and I'm 'fairly' certain its identical to AT&T, but I wanted peoples opinions from here, as you are by far the most knowledgable about parts/hardware etc.
I'm SO choked at myself for being careless. My phone seemed to be flawless, and didn't exhibit any of the faults other people complained about (screen discoloration, all the functions like multi-window, one-handed operation, etc. not working). And now I've gone and forced open heart surgery on the thing.
I was looking here for the part:
http://www.etradesupply.com/samsung.html
As you can see, they have multiple models listed, and I just need to know if I'm selecting the right one.
(I also think that AT&T is my best choice, because after opening up the phone down to the motherboard and other parts, AT&T is printed all over the place. But I could be reading more into that than I should).
