So last week, I accidentally dropped my naked note 3 about 1.5 feet to a concrete sidewalk. Very little visible damage on the outside, but sadly, over the span of about 24hrs, the screen slowly faded to black (starting from the bottom left, where the most ammount of damage is visible, across the screen in a circular pattern), and now the screen appears to be completely dead. During the time in which the screen went black, the digitizer still worked, as I could still get the phone to register spen clicks on even the black areas of the screen (i.e. i could still get air command to pop up). There is also zero damage to the glass itself. No scratches, skuffs, or marks of any type. Looks brand new. And I've already tried getting the warranty to cover this. Its not.
So I'm currently in the market for a replacement screen/digitizer/housing assembly, should the repair centre quote me more than $275 + taxes to fix.
I'm going with a complete housing, because while I'm sure its simply the LCD screen portion that's no longer working, those in themselves cost upwards of $250. And it would require me to seperate the glass from the housing/digitizer, and then reseal them with the new one. I figured it would be much more cost effective to simply buy the whole package pre-assembled for $25 more.
Problem is, you can get different housing part numbers depending on which version of the phone you have (verizon, at&t). So my question is this:
Will it matter if I purchase the cheapest version? As an example, the AT&T black housing is 275, but the Verizon Black housing is 289. The last thing i want to do is fork over the money and find I ordered the wrong part.
I'm from Canada, and sadly our carriers are never recognized in these bloody situations. I'm with Bell, and I'm 'fairly' certain its identical to AT&T, but I wanted peoples opinions from here, as you are by far the most knowledgable about parts/hardware etc.
I'm SO choked at myself for being careless. My phone seemed to be flawless, and didn't exhibit any of the faults other people complained about (screen discoloration, all the functions like multi-window, one-handed operation, etc. not working). And now I've gone and forced open heart surgery on the thing.

SO, my brother dropped the phone and slammed the car door shut. the phone still works and the glass (yay gorilla glass, lol) is fine. but the inside lcd screen is cracked. so i need a new screen and digitizer. i looked at the the steps and the replacement seems fairly simple.
the problem is finding the right vendor. all the replacement parts say "LCD" screen. but isn't ours super amoled.

I would definitely stick with an amoled screen replacement...even if you have to get samsung to do it because I wouldn't think that you can just replace the amoled screen with an LCD one willy nilly and it work as intended... especially considering the amoled is a completely different screen type... im in no way an expert on this though its just my 2 cents on what i would personally do.
the problem is that i dont know where i can buy the oem part from samsung. and the screen on repairs universe says super amoled (LCD).
i looked on craigslist and the cheapest fascinate was 260 dollars.
i guess i will try the repairs universe product.

replacing the screen
So I was in the same boat until about 2 hours ago. Last Saturday I dropped my phone on the ground when I was getting out of my car and did not notice it. I was visiting my friend and noticed i did not have my phone so I thought i left it at home. Long story short, either i or the person who parked in the spot i was parked in afterward ran over my phone when it was screen down on the pavement. to make things worse by the time i backtracked far enough and found the phone it had snowed about a quarter inch. I thought everything was okay until i noticed that the top left hand corner was extremely cracked. Surprisingly enough though the phone still worked. Heart broken because one of the things i love to do is to put my friends quality of screens to shame with the quality of the fascinates screen.
The link you posted to repairsuniverse.com is the same place I ordered my screen from on Saturday night. I was worried that I would not get the screen I needed or just the glass and not the LCD.... yada yada yada... In my hasty research i did before I bought the replacement screen, I seen somewhere that it was the super-amoled touch screen that came originally with the phone. So after looking for any competitive pricing and finding none, i bought it.
I got the replacement screen today and it took me about 2 hours to replace it. It feels like the same screen, the touch response is the same and the amazing clarity is there as well. I don't know if you can order the glass of the screen separate or not. It took me 2 hours to replace the screen because it was a pain in the arse getting the old cracked screen all out. It came out in like 100 pieces. Not like the you tube video that was essential to my successful transplant. When I was examining the new screen, I did notice some samsung markings on some of the hardware on the back of it. I do think the screen that I got from them is an OEM part. Not only because of the samsung markings but of how the screen was matching up color wise everywhere with the old screen. But I did not see how it could be sold as 2 different items. Everything matched up great when installing as well. And it does have the verizon and samsung logos just like my original screen.
The price was worth it to me since i scored the phone off amazon for a penny. I am very impressed that the damn thing was even usable after being ran over by car. My htc touch pro would have never survived
Needless to say that I have working almost like it as good as new. The bottom buttons are all persnickity now, I might have missed taking off the back plastic on the screen in that area. I don't know. the buttons were more responsive on the cracked screen than they are now, so i don't think that it is the side effect of being run over by car. So I might have to take it off and check that out, the rest of the screen is just like new with looks and response. I may just be blowing the buttons out of proportion because i am looking for anything that I may have done wrong with the install.
I would go with this screen if i was in your shoes. Good luck I hope it works out.

Full Screen Assembly. Both super AMOLED (LCD) and Glass touch screen digitizer pre-installed.
after switching them out I know i don't have the expertise to put them together, unless another handy you tube how to video was done!

i was worried because i read reviews and they were really shady (screen comes broken in shoddy packaging and they refuse to give you a refund.)
how in the world did you get the screen to stick to the phone. did you use your own adhesive glue or use the stuff already on the phone. i kind of ripped it all off when i was taking off the screen.

it had dust under the screen? As I was cleaning my screen today, I noticed two minuscule particles of dust under the screen. They are very close to the right and left edges of the screen, so Im assuming they somehow got through the small gap on those sides of the screen (if you look at the G2 on a flat plane, you notice a small gap between the screen and the side of the phone. The side is slightly more elevated than the screen at the center of the phone.). Im just worried about more dust getting under there, so should I exchange it under warranty. Other than that the phone has been flawless except for the typical "loose" hinge.
BTW the gap Im taking about is not a horizontal gap. Its a vertical gap, like the screen doesnt sit flush with the casing. Its noticeable on both sides, more towards the center of the device. If someone could verify with their phone it would be helpful.
Probably wouldn't bother me. I haven't had the issue of anything getting under my screen and I've had the phone since it was released. You can always have tmobile send you a replacement however there probably only going to send you a refurb G2. Some times it just pays to leave well enough alone but when its something that annoys you I can certianly understand.

I've accumulated quite a few dust particles under my screen. They're mostly collected in the bottom left corner but more are picking up on the right. Apparently this is a well known issue because of the gap between the screen and the housing.
I'm gonna line up a replacement for mine because its starting to get on my nerves. One of those things that once you know its there, all you do is look at it lol.
If I were you and its only two or so specs of dust, I wouldn't really wanna go through the hassle of an exchange until it got worse.
Decided Im not gonna exchange it over 2 small pieces of dust (the size of a thin pencil tip). Especially considering everything else is working fine and I will possibly get a refurb replacement.
I just went through a replacement nightmare all because of having dust under the screen.. Within the first couple weeks of me getting the phone, I started noticing a bunch of dust particles accumulating in the lower left corner of the screen. After a month, there was a noticeable line of dust, in a 1 inch x 1 inch square at the far bottom left. After the 2nd month, it was starting to be noticeable while the screen was on too, and was starting to make it tough to read that lower corner.
I went to a T-Mobile store, just to make sure that it would be covered under warranty. They said absolutely, and offered to swap it out in the store - I had a ton of data and text messages not backed up, so I said I'd be back once I backed everything up.
Well, I should have gone to the store again, instead I called customer service and processed it over the phone. They mailed me a replacement phone ASAP, actually got it the next day. I packed up the old phone, sent it back, and thought everything was done. 2 weeks later, I got a letter saying that it's not under warranty, that the phone had physical damage, and they had charged my account $295 for the new phone.. After a very frustrating hour on the phone with customer service, and going through the following: They wouldn't send me the old phone back, wouldn't let me talk to anyone who had access to look at the phone, wouldn't/couldn't even give me a description of what physical damage there was - they finally agreed to credit me back the $295.
Sorry for the long post, just getting all the info in there.
Short version - If you have a warranty issue, bring it to a store!
I had this problem with my first phone, Lots of dust under the bottom left corner. I called tmobile and they swapped it out with another phone no question. Its been over a month and I havent seen got anything saying the phone was not covered by the warranty. This phone seems much better than the first one so im being more careful with where I put it and how I handle it to minimize the chances of dust invading it.
Gap between the screen and the housing... Huh? Its sealed tight. No gap, no dust. Yours has obviously been bashed up.

I could tell you for a fact this phone is not bashed up, its been babied since I got it (couple days before Christmas). As soon as I got it a Otterbox case was placed on it. Phone sits in my jacket pocket. So how it would get bashed up is beyond me.

Because there is physical damage to the device? This voids most types of warranties, outside of some carrier warranties (it would actually void bell's, after reading over the fine print).
I basically have to fund the repairs myself, unless I sent it to the repair center, and they miraculously came back saying the damage didn't cause the problem, and it was just a defective screen. But the chance of THAT happening are pretty much nil.

My N4 fell on the back and the touchscreen does not respond correctly anymore (a 2cm high band in the middle is unresponsive, jsut where i should validate my pin code). I would like to know if you know fair prices, high quality screen replacements. The original part from LG is 120 EUR according to my local retailer, but i see replacements on amazon and ebay around 50 eur. I know i could replace the touchscreen only but it seems very risky, so i'd prefer to replace the whole screen instead.

The two ebay screens I've ordered were both blems with air bubbles trapped in the film. They worked though. I've got pictures of them somewhere.
So I just bought and installed this one a week ago:

And it was worth every penny. My digitizer had cracked in the bottom corner, but was fully functional. What I didn't realize was how scratched up the glass was and how much the oleophobic coating had worn off. The new screen, digitizer, and frame from etradesupply was perfect. No bubbles, the glass was curved on the sides, and it is just as responsive as the stock screen. I was really worried about it not being up to OEM standard. The installation was very easy. I have read some replacements not having a filter over the LED and light bleeds out, but this one has the filter. 5 stars, would buy again. I did alot of research before hand, and have heard many horror stories of Ebay replacements, but this one really worked out well.
An internal 'crack' seems to have appeared on my device. Since the last two days it has grown and is now more than half the length of the device. Device is still under warranty so will take it to the service center over the weekend. Anybody seen anything similar?

If you are facing this from the first day of buying there's a probability that you got a defected piece.
According to me hardware doesn't come under warranty. You need to buy another display for your phone.

Looks like a screen lifting. As i see it the glue in-between the glass layer is not holding up. I have a similar case but i did not posed a picture here in Xda. It happened on my device last year (Note 8.0) at the bottom screen near the home button, though i have no proof to show mine because the day it happened i immediately took it to the shop where i bought my unit and they fixed the screen after 3 weeks wait. I got a note from the tech explaining that the glue in-between the lcd etc.. was not holding up, hence the lifting occurred. Hopefully the service center will fix it for you or rather replace the screen.
I concur with the above. It looks more like an adhesive failure vs. a glass failure.
I've repaired a number of older generation devices - namely iPhone 4s, SGS3s, and SGS4s. The latter two are expensive LCD/Glass replacements, as such I did the ole heat and separate to replace busted glass trick. I was able to do so w/o destroying the digitizer/lcd. The first one I was scared $#|tl3ss and took my time, which paved the way for being comfortable doing the others I did...
If I was personally faced with your situation, and having the experience I do, if the device is under warranty with the source, I'd go that route. If it isn't under some sort of warranty, I'd try to heat things up with a heat gun (to ~60-65 degrees centigrade - assuring that I didn't get things too hot by using a handheld contact-less thermometer) and while it cools, push down on the glass (not crushing the device like a neanderthal... ) to see if I could reactivate the adhesive and get the lcd/digitizer to stick to the back of the glass. Absent success with those two options, the last three options you may have, as I see it, are:
Service Center Repair - likely expensive and slow...
DIY - Glass/LCD/Digitizer/Subframe replacement as a single unit - likely just a bit lesser expensive, but much quicker as one wouldn't be w/o the device.
Getting one's hands dirty with a home-brew repair (many videos on youtube) where you remove the glass from a functional LCD/Digitizer and replace the OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) and reassemble the unit.
This is likely the most cost effective but also the riskiest as one could damage things beyond repair, if one is not mechanically skilled, properly equipped, invests the time to learn, and is patient.
EDIT: It is also prudent to note that going this route requires a very finite attention to detail and proper application of processes, if one doesn't want to end up with a device that has a bunch of air bubbles between the glass, adhesive, and digitizer/LCD - been dhere, duhn dhat...
EDIT 2: Beware that there are a S#|t tonne of parts out there that won't work but look like they will. One needs to do their home-work and verify that one can return whatever units were ordered from a given retailer.
