Magician resets when plugging in USB cable - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I have this ONE cable (i have several) that automatically resets my magician every time i plug it in. it worked just fine before, but one day it just started resetting my magician. and each and every time after that one instance.
the only bad thing i noticed about it is that it kind of 'wiggles' at the port. any clues?

is happen the same if u un-check "Allow USB" at sync settings? And what happening after reset? it works or resetting again?

hmmm. no, i wasn't actually referring to connecting the magician to the PC. i built a portable charger noting voltage and proper amperage. and i used a cable which i bought separately. THIS particular cable resets my magician every time i plug it in.
out of sheer curiousity, i did what you suggested, but still it resets my magician.

oic ... seems to me that no reason to connect him no once again - u can explode protection diode inside. In this case it will die till this diode be replaced at workshop only. Take usual Motorola V3 charger and enjoy

XCPUScalar
if you use XCPUScalar prog, remove it & all will be fine!

XDA Exec Not Charging

My xda exec just stopped charging all of a sudden, my battery is completely drained. the usb sync cable doesn't work, neither does the charger. please help.
Make sure device is off before connecting...
Using a non-data connection to a charger is not the same as a USB connection to another computer: I've discovered that if the device is on/open/running when I plug in a non-data charging cable (e.g., car charger or home charger as opposed to a USB connection to another computer), the device won't charge, and in fact will run down completely if left unattended like that. But if I turn the device fully off and then plug it in, it works. Strange, but true...I do this all the time when using my Jasjar as a GPS in the car. Hope this helps. Cheers,
It also works if you shut the machine off after you connect it. I found that it depends on the charger. The standard charger works even if the machine is switched on, but a lot of after market chargers don't work right away and you need to switch the machine off first.
Good news!

Thanks, that's really important info, because the USB jack is a weak point of the Universal, and the less one plugs and unplugs it, the better...so now I'll try re-powering it instead of unplugging and re-plugging it! Cheers,
Yeah, I had my USB jack break off too Actually, it could be that that is the problem Greenarcher707™ is having, although I guess he would have noticed that.
BTW you need to switch the PDA off and wait for a second or two. Then the orange light goes on. No orange light, no charging.
Quite anoying that it doesn't always work right away. I've had a few incidents where I ended up with a flat battery just because I forgot "the procedure" and the thing just wasn't charging.

USB Charging...or not!

I have tried charging my XDA Trion (Hermes) via a USB 12 car adapter. There appears to be charge to the cable, but the XDA is not charging.
Th ebattery level was low, but I charge dit up to over 40% and it still didn't kick in.
Any ideas ?
TIA, Davebo.

There is an issue re. in car charging when the device only charges when off. See the link in my signature and find the section on charging problems. May or may not be relevant to your case. Some leads have a slightly different configuration regarding earthing which can cause problems.

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I think it is how the pins are set up. Apparently mains chargers uses different pins to synch cables.
In the end I had to boot up my laptop and charge the handset off the USB (same cable!) from that.
I have ordered a car cradle, which I will need anyway. Hopefully, that will have the correct pins. (Or it will be going back!).
Cheers, DBo.

matey i bought a car charger from ebay only a few quid- an it charges the device while the device is on-
if you still need another charger I can try searching for the one i got from ebay? let me know.

N2h,
Ta very much, I already have one on order though now.
I went for one from the same place I got my Wizard one from (PDAMods). It was about £25 + P&P. The upside is it will fit the limpet-like screen mount I have. (The standard ones are typically rubbish IMHO).
Thanks anyway, DBo.
weird
I have found that it doesn't charge oif it is 'on' and that I have to do a soft reset before it will work whenever I change between plug and car. It drives me mad.
Faria's WM6 ROM had a fix in it for this - the HTC original ROMs do some sort of checking for a particular pin to be grounded, and if it isn't, it doesn't allow a charge. But if you turn the phone completely off, or soft reset, it works for a while until you disconnect or put the phone in standby. Nobody knows what Faria did to fix this, but I can verify that suddenly my old car charger worked. Unfortunately other issues in Faria's ROM made me move on a to a more stable software version.

After a year, my first real problem...

I'm having trouble getting the usb / charger cable to charge the 8525...
Is anyone else havin problems like this? Is there a solution?
Does it charge fine when you just use the USB cable or mains charger ? If it does then maybe its something as simple as poor connection and you should clean the contacts on both the handset and the charging cradle.
If your having problems no matter how you try to charge the handset then maybe your battery has reached it's useful lifespan. It could also be something else at fault but I would check/go through the obvious first.
This may sound wierd.. but maybe even doing a soft reset. For some strange reason sometimes when I plug in the charger or usb it either won't connect to activesync or won't charge. I then reset and everything seems to work fine. I thought it was a cable problem but it happens every now and then.
Have you changed your pover manager settings? If you forbid usb charging, when you connect your phone to PC,the phone won‘t be charged.

Htc Touch Diamond Problem

Hello everybody I have a problem with my HTC Touch Diamond I bought in September and I did not have any trouble with it since now. When I want to charge my Diamond and I plug it in the outlet it asks me what type of connection I want (Active Sync or Disk Drive) and if I close the window thus not choosing any of them it does not start charging. If I want it to start charging I have to go to Start - Settings - System - Power - and Uncheck the box When Device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC. I have to mention I did not recently install anything or done anything to with. This glitch just started happening a few weeks ago. So my question is what is causing this? And how can I fix it? Thanks…

Are you talking about plugging the device into a mains outlet via the supplied mains charger, or into your PC via the USB cable? If you're using the mains charger directly into a mains socket and you're getting the message 'What type of connection..... ', then there's something definitely wrong with your device, in which case you need to follow AdamPatel's advice and get it replaced / repaired
Really need some advice!!!!!

Thanks for answering. Yes i am talking about about plugging the device into a mains outlet via the supplied mains charger. The only way i can get it to charge is if i check the box "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC". This problem occured a few months bag and I moved the USB cable plugged in to the mains charger and it worked then but now no matter what i do to it it wont charge unless i check the box "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC". And also today i looked closer at the usb cable that goes in the mains charger and i saw it was a bit damaged (by damaged i mean some small white wires werent covered - sorry about my description dont actualy now how to relate). SO my question is do you think the phone has hardware problems or just the usb cable/ main charge???
Thanks for answering
Mmmm...
Is there any way you could try another USB cable first. If it is damaged, as you suspect, it could be giving wrong information to your device (ie. about what exactly it's plugged into). Might be worth trying a new one first, before going through the hassle of repairs or replacement of your device.
It does sound a bit suspect I must admit. Give it a go
Hi.
I sometimes get the same thing, but not all the time...
If I use my cheap car charger - mini USB, I always get the message about connecting via Activesync or Disk Drive, whereas if I use my proper mains charger at home it's fine. This would suggest (with my phone at least) the problem is with the cable.
Is it a problem for you not to leave the box '...don't charge...when connected to your PC...' permanently unchecked? Then it's just a one button solution without the hassle of needing to get anything fixed.
I agree with grahamkdt, though, rule out the USB cable if you can by trying another.

Battery charging and connection problem, any ideas?

Hello,
I have strange problem, since today I cannot charge my HD while its being on, when I plug in usb charger nothing happens, i tried charging through PC usb port, and nothing happens.
I cannot even establish connection with a pc, don't get 3 choice menu (active sync, hdd, and nothing) on HD when usb is plugged in.
I suspected that the usb port is defected, but when the unit is switched off, it's charging even though there is no amber led on.
It has original rom and radio in it...
Did anybody had similar problem? The phone is under warranty, should I send it for repair?
Thanks in advance.
Very weird. I would definately advise you to send it in for repair. I haven't heard of anything like this before :O.
Good luck!

Hi, I got the exactly same issue as you described today. Have you got it fixed?
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks,
This has already been discussed:
Battery Not Charging
1.Hard Reset after backing up data.
2.Check if SPL/ROM mismatch - if U flashed a custom ROM or SPL.
3.Short circuiting pins in battery compartment of HD after disconnecting of power/USB and removing battery. (Don't short the battery - it may explode).
Try the solutions, if it doesn't work then go for warranty.
Too many ppl seem to have this problem and no one uses search

I did search it before and got 8-9 pages of results. I tried all the approaches but none could fix it. This guy described the exactly the same symptom I have so I really wanted to know how he ended up doing with the issue before I sent it off for warranty.
The problem right now is really on the USB connection, even in the boot loader mode, it couldn't recognize the USB but it could do it just one day before.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate if you could have some new ideas for me to try.

Have you tried updating your USB drivers?
Have you tried different usb cables?
Some of my usb cables no longer works. I believe my mini usb connector have become slightly looser and I have experienced a cable will charge the phone but won't come up with any options.
Wotth a shot.
The USB driver seems ok since I used the USB connection to flash ROMs and SPLs the day before without any problem.
As for the cables, I tried 5 or 6 total including the stock one but it didn't help.
As stated before, the only time the phone is charging is when I turn it off completely and it charges fairly quickly. However, the bottom (close to the USB end) part of the phone is very hot during the charge. If I turn it on or put it in standby mode, there is no charge or ActiveSync activity.
I have a similar problem.. My phone charges when I plug it in. But I am not presented with any options and ActiveSync doesn´t recognise the device..
same problem here
I am in the same situation. I flashed back the stock ROM, but with no USB, I am unable to put 6.5 back on....any advice is appreciated.
I sent the bad phone (Telstra T8285) back to the seller (an AUS ebayer) and he nicely sent me back a new phone but the story didn't end here. The second phone worked for one day until I plugged in my usb universal car charger. Damn, the exactly same problem happened again at the very moment I pushed in the usb connector. Now I know what the issue has been. I frankly told the seller what happened and he told me what their repair guy found about my first phone, that the fault was from reverse polarity of power supply. I was very surprised because I have been using the same car charger for my previous 3 PDA phones w/o any issues and it's still working for those devices. What's special about the Touch HD?! Does USB have different polarity specs?
Anyhow the seller said he can replace it again but I need to pay the return shipping this time.
What is baffling me is that the phone can still charge when it's off completely but can't when it's on. Does it look like hardware or software problem? Also the USB can't be recognized in the bootloader mode but it could before being faulted by the charger. Does anyone have experience on faulted connector and is there a fix besides replacing the entire motherboard?
Your help and suggestion is much appreciated. Thanks!
The Advanced config Utility has an option for "USB Charging" maybe you could install it and see if the option says yes?
also me... now i figured out what the real problem
i used my old miniusb car charger about one full day before and the same problem start with me with slight different which is charge if i keep it plug in long time...(start charging after 5 min.)
i'm really lucky by not completly dameged
this issued must be listed and get real answer from HTC compeny if the mini usb for hd is different
