There's a major problem with my mda vario. Yesterday, I picked up my phone and it was extremely hot. when I tried chargin it, the the led stayed on red and then amber. after a while, the device itself turned on properly but just the screen doesnt come on. i can still tap the screen and hear sounds and use voice command to control everything but the screen remains off. does anyone know whats wrong with it? has anyone had this problem? i would really much appreciate if anyone could help fix this.
Sounds like a hardware problem to me - try a hard reset if you can see what you are doing or try and time it right. Ensure its not a battery problem - plug it into mains charger for a while to make sure its fully charged or if you can - borrow someone elses battery. But i think it may need to go back to your provider for repair.

I searched to see if I could find an answer but there weren't any posts that could specifically help me. I only found one post but it wasn't clear.
My phone was working fine in the morning but when I checked on it after class it wouldn't wake up but light was still blinking. I thought a simple soft reset would unfreeze it but nothing. After removing the battery to get it to power off it won't turn back on. A guy posted this same problem in one of the threads and there was a mention of the battery but it was vague. When I try to charge it, there are no indicator lights. With the battery out, the red indicator light is on.
Can someone help me find out whats wrong and if I can fix it myself. Is it the battery or the phone? Thanks in advance

Hi
First, I notice you have not tried a hard reset. This will in all probability fix your problems, but you will loose any data of your own that you have saved on the device. (hope you have a fullbackup!!)
Before doing the hard reset it may be worth running through the steps here http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!4472423472DCFC38!202.entry for the refusal to charge issue. You see I am not sure whether your device is not turning on because it has insufficient power or whether it has a major "crash". Hermes does have a problem for some folks when it reaches very low charge of not being able to staret charging. This though is normally indicated by a RED LED showing when charger is plugged in (clearly yours only does this with battery out - which is normal) Somehow you need to get that Amber LED showing. Repeat the charging solution a few times - it does not always work straight off.
When all else fails - hard reset.
Mike
nothing working yet
Hard reset isn't working. Is the menu supposed to come up even if theres no battery? Tried hard reset with and without the battery, but nothing pops up. Your charging solution hasn't worked yet but I'll keep trying. Any other things I can try? Thanks for the help mike.
It worked for me: Remove battery and plug it to AC during 5 minutes. Then insert the battery and soft reset. My TynT came back life in this way
'Dead device won't charge (solution provided)'
This isn't for your model I don't think, but the "won't charge" problem (and hence solution) sound similar. It worked for me on a dead SPV M3000 (HTC Wizard, iMate etc) (and was I grateful!!)

I got my TyTN a week ago (actually it is a Softbank X01HT)
The device just died today. I cannot turn it on (battery was fully charged), no lights are on, I tried removing the battery, SIM card, soft/hard reset nothing helps, it seems like it is dead and nothing is turning on even when connected to the power.
Can anyone please advise? is there anything I can do to revive it??
thanks
Does it show a constant RED LED light when you plug in the charger?
Mike
Can you describe the incident that lead to the "bricking" of your tytn?
The more we know the better we can make suggestion/give help.

No light is on when connected, it is just all blank. I didn't do anything actually. Finished a phone call, put the device back in my pocket when I took it out again it was dead and coldn't do anything. No ROM change or software installation or anything. I was wondering if there is any way to "revive" it.
Thank you for the help in advance !

Don't think I've heard of one being completely dead before. There are cases where the battery drains very rapidly to zero charge in a veryshort time and will then refuse to charge. BUT in those cases the device at least shows a RED no charge LED when you plug in the charger.
I don't think I can suggest anything other than warranty / repair. I assume you can rule out that the charger is faulty. This could be shown by plugging into PC using USB lead and confirming that again no RED LED shows.
One final thought but I think it is a long shot and that is to leave the battery out for 10 minutes and then retry.
It may be possible that an internal connector has come adrift but unless you wish to open it up then again we're back to warranty / repair.

Bad news for me. I was afraid I will have to do that...
Thanks for the reply though.
If anyone else has ny suggestion I'll be happy to hear it
i can't turn on my phone while it is charging throught usb and normal power. the red light is on but i just can't turn it on. anyone can help me with this? thanksXD
Did you run the battery all the way down?
Red light means charge is below acceptable level.
Yep red light means battery is below the level where it can power the device and it has to charge so that's is why it won't turn on. Just give it a good charge and it will be as good as new hopefully.
even when i plug it in with 50% it'll still be red light. is there something wrong?
I was having the same issue with a cingular branded 8525. hard reset didnt work..flashing the rom didnt work. at&t sent me a new one a few days ago for free.. just talk to their warranty exchange and tell them htc deemed the device defective.
...(then install wm6)
ya, i bought mine in HK so exchanging it is out of the question, anyone else have ideas?
This has been a problem that has affected a small number of Windows Mobile phones all along. This is not specific to the Hermes or any other WM PDA phone.
If you can't exchange it, and you've tried the basic things like a hard reset and flashing the ROM, then you'll just have to live with it.
(You do know that you should first try a hard reset for every problem like this, right?)
I have the HTC Tytn and it will not turn on. It was sitting on my desk one day with more than 50% charge and when I picked it up to make a phone call I noticed it was turned off. I tryed hitting the power button to turn it back on, but nothing happened. I have removed the battery and tried just about everything I could think of. Even when I plug the unit into the wall charger there are no indicator lights. I read on some threads that my battery may not have enough charge to begin charging (I know that makes little sense, but it is true) so I took the battery out and tested the voltage. It rated at 4.17 Volts which is higher then the 3.7 rating on the battery. This means the "jumpstart" or extra "kick" that would normally be suggested would not work for me since I have too much charge. I have begun discharging my battery and it is down to 3.99 Volts, but I don't really know if this would help anything.
If anyone has had a similar problem and has a solution I would really like to try it, I am willing to try anything at this point. I know I am new to this forum and this is my first post, but I discovered this site through Google and found it to be full of many interesting posts. If any of these solutions work I would be happy to make a donation to this site. I appreciate any and all help.

Hi Flashrapid,
Have you tried a soft or hard reset? If the phone comes back on with either of these solutions then let me know as there is more to be done to stop this happening again in the future.
Feel free to PM me directly if it helps.

Same problem here. I know this is an old thread, but Im having the same exact issue. Completly stock factory ROM very few 3rd party add ons never dropped.Phone was actually a 3 month old refurb that I had replaced another 8525 with under warantee. No charging lights or anything. Tried soft reset, not sure how to hard reset with the phone dead. Anyway if someone has any insight to this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hard reset as you normally would - 2 softkeys and stylus reset.
Does the red LED come on when you connect to the power without the battery?
The Hermes should, if there is no hardware problems, show a red light to indicate no battery when you plug it in without one.
Cheers...
Ok situation is this....he half died
dunno how but battery is normally charged to full it works.
when I turn it on "nothing" happens so I thought it is really dead bcs no picture no sound no nothing, but since I was curious I plugged it on ubs cable on my laptop and Activesync found it and synced....hmm...I went to explore his files and everything is there, I can normally operate with him..delete files, copy files...everything but still nothing on screen not even the light.Oh also when I plug him into his charger battery is charging (checked voltage on batt connectors) but there is no light when charging.
So correct me if I'm wrong but could it be that Flat Cable leading to LCD from keyboard broke? Since i think that keys on LCD part also don't respond.
Thanx for any advice you may have.
In case it is a Flat cable I'd also ask if someone is from Croatia here maybe and got a spare to contact me.thank you
Could also be that your brightness settings got turned down somehow, I have had this happen to me before, hold it under a bright light and see if you can make out what is on the screen, if you can, see if you can navigate through the options to get to the brightness settings, and turn them up
Tried just now...nothing there
can anyone help? did anyone have same situation?
