I'd like to know if anyone has made an effort to install all their apps on the SD card and not on the universal.
ive installed tomtom 5.1 onto the SD card with my maps on, thought it would keep it all tidy and together,
cant really see any issues in installing all apps onto sd, maybe a bit slower??? not sure
I have (on my 2 GB SD) Listpro, eWallet, PhatPad, RDCalc,
Resco FileExplorer, Photoviewer, Radio and Audio recorder, MathTablet and more. They seem to work ok (Omega Journal Bar somehow prevents to install other apps so I removed that

I read that apllications, which have today screen plugins, should not be installed in a sd card.
Is this (still) true?
What about the folder "my documents", did anyboy sitched it totaly to an sd card?
What about ActiveSync? Can it sync whith the md-folder on an sd?

That's something I did not consider. I currently have resco and ms voice command loaded to the universal built in memory.
really would like to put My Documents on the SD.
Is that possible, without too many problems?

no problems whatsoever
You shouldn't have any trouble installing most apps to the memory card. I would like to add that in addition to not installing apps with today plugins to the memory card, you should also not install apps that load automatically at startup to the memory card.
I tried installing Voice Command to the memory card once, and every time I reset the device, I would get errors when the device started as the memory card had not initialized yet.
Hi all,
i have a fresh JasJar and i need to install the .Net Compact Framework 2.0 but when i try to install (main memory) it gives me an unknow error number 4.
I have a lot of free space in my device, approx 30 Mb, so where is the problem ?
I need the .Net Compact Framework to run IBE Mail.

Me too. I've tried closing applications, but without luck

Using ActiveSync may give problem. I installed using the cab file method
You can get the cab file ffrom here (near to the bottom)
http://www.gopherking.com/download/
If you cannot install try install WiFiFoFum with the CF installer Package. After that remove WiFiFoFum (if not needed) and you'll have the CF left behind

Why install it in the main memory? I installed it to my SD Card and it went without any problems.

I used the .exe file through active sync. I had reformatted my computer, I had performed hard resets numerous times on my EXEC and Net Framework 2 always installs without any problem to my SD Card and works very well.

Are you sure it's actually on the SD card?
I tried telling it to install to SD-card three times (uninstalled between each attempt) and practically nothing went onto the SD card - it just created an empty folder there. Took out over 5-MegaByte of main memory though and didn't recover all of that when it was removed!

YES, I explored my SD Card and it has a folder named NetFrame2 or something like that under Windows>Programs
I did not loose any internal memory. As of now after a soft reset, I have about 32MB of internal memory with 31 different applications installed. 26 applications installed to my SD Card and 5 system applications installed on my internal memory. No freezes, no delays, no missed calls, no loss of system preferences, switching from landscape to portrait or vice versa takes 1 second, so I am pleased with my settings.

I hope you're lucky and it worked for you!
Might be worth checking the \Windows folder, however, as that's where I found all the .Net v.2 stuff dumped. The .Net v.1.x stuff is in ROM, so I'm hoping that a future ROM update will have v.2 in ROM.
Pants - just noticed that CF2 folder on SD card is empty!
Any solution to this?
Cheers,
Steve
(Am using Opera - apologies for double spaces)
I've looked into this a bit further, and according to the guys at Microsoft http://blogs.msdn.com/netcfteam/default.aspx - the Framework will always take up storage space, and it wouldn't work if it were only installed on the SD card.
Let's hope that a future ROM release will include it.
Cheers,
Steve.
Here is what I noticed on mine. I just performed a hard reset. I started out with 31MB internal memory. I opted to store NetFramework to my SD Card which is around 5MB in size. So if what you guys claim that NetFrameWork does not install to the card is true, it should eat up the 31MB internal memory right? But I still end up with 31MB internal memory after the install. I did check my SD Card and found the folder there which is empty if I clicked on it. But, my SD Card has less memory than I started with, close to 5MB. So my conclusion is: It installs to the SD Card but maybe active sync does not allow us to see the actual file and size, so it appears the folder is empty.
According to what Microsoft say:
Installing NETCF V2 to storage card
While it is technically possible to redirect installation of NETCF onto storage card via standard Active Sync/WCELOD capabilities, it won’t save precious RAM on device. NETCF files have to be in \Windows folder in order for NETCF to function properly.
If NETCF is installed to storage card, NETCF files will be initially deployed to it. However, at some point they would moved to \Windows folder taking out exactly the same space as normal installation would.
In some cases attempt to use storage card would lead to installation failure due to some subtle storage card issues. Thus it’s not recommended to install NETCF V2 to storage card or embedded storage and there are no benefits of doing so.

So try installing WifiFoFum (or another .Net CF2 app) and see how your memory availability alters.
Cheers,
Steve.
I also use WiFIFoFum and stored it to my card. It works great. After use of WiFiFoFum, my Internal Memory goes down to about 27MB, I already expected that. Closing all applications via settings puts my internal memory to about 29MB, also expected that as Windows Mobile 5 leaves some parts of the application open for faster reference the next time you open it up. After performing a soft reset my Internal Memory goes back to 31MB. So this still does not change my conclusion that NetFrameWork 2 was installed to my SD Card.
I had a problem installing .NET 2.0 and I found that if I rename/remove previous attempted installs (eg, the dir and files), my 2nd attempt is usually successful.
This goes for most any program that doesn't install properly. I've noticed that this usually happens to me after an upgrade of the same app.

Are you talking about "Program" memory? I'm talking about "Storage" memory - I don't think that's affected when you open/close applications or perform soft resets...

I unlocked my Ext ROM then configured my Mail Attachment to be stored in the Storage Card, BUT instead of directing to my Storage Card, the Mail Attachment went to my Ext ROM.
Does anyone have the registry tweak to configure my Storage Card to be the default Mail Attachment folder instead of my Ext ROM???

Same problem here. Till I unlocked the external rom all was fine. Tried to search the forum ( 9th button......!!!!!) but no help. Surely there must a tweak.
Noob guess?
I haven't unlocked mine yet, but I remember reading that once unlocked you have 2 storage cards(storage card and then storage card2) I don't remember which one is which ie. unlocked ROM or storage card. Does that make any sense?
My O2 cents
YES, I had searched too. I found a few thread but NO SOLUTIONS:
1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=275968&highlight=mail+attachment
2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=258336&highlight=mail+attachment

My theory is the MAIL APPLICATION defaults to the VERY FIRST storage card it finds. Since the name of the ExtROM is beginning with the letter "E", it preceeds the name of the Storage Card (letter "S"). So if we can find the registry to change the name of the Extended ROM to something like X-ROM, then the MAIL APPLICATION will find the Storage Card first before the Extension ROM. This is my theory.
Can anyone suggest something?

Actually it will come out as ExtendedROM and Storage Card.
The Storage Card and Storage Card 2 only happens if you try to mess with the Mail Attachment and trying to force it to go to the Storage Card, so you will end up with 3 folders: ExtendedROM, Storage Card, and Storage Card 2. Then you're screwed because all your shorcut icons installed to the card is unable to find the original location. So be careful unlocking the Ext ROM then setting the Mail Attachments to your storage card. You have to choose either one to work to avoid the renaming issue.

No. I just did a hard reset and just used my SD Card. I wanted to use the extended ROM to run a few apps that needed to boot up fast after a soft reset. But since I can't use my SD Card as the default Mail Attachment storage area if I have Unlocked my Ext ROM, I opted to just use my storage card instead.

i guess there is no harm trying it then....it does allow you to choose where to save the mail attachment (down to the folder level)
but i have never tested this function...anoter prob that might come is when your battery goes down to less than 5% or you want to remove your SD card

I did not know SKTools have this function. I'll investigate more about it.
I recently bought a 4GB SD Card, so having my Mail Attachments go in there is OK. One downside is it takes a little longer for the Universal to scan everything in there, that is why after a soft reset there is slight delay in boot up time because of the big memory to read. I wanted to bypass this by installing all that needs to be scan fast in the Ext ROM, unfortunately the Mail Attachment issue cropped up.
I turned on my Hermes this morning and it started giving me a lot of errors on the today screen. They were errors regarding programs that were installed on the storage card and the device couldn't display everything (such as HTC Home, etc.) and locked-up. After a few soft-resets, still the same. I took out the card and put it in a card reader, but it seems that almost everything is gone from there and what's left, both files and folders, has weird names (»╣SöôdεÑ.z╕ë , ╔╞DGV)0.╡En , φE}░wx÷,.Γö6 , £#╚Ç3.3c, etc.). Also, the contents of the storage card show up as having 33.8 GB!!! How come?
What's to be done to recover my files?
I could hard-reset the device, but the data on the storage card is still gone! I don't care about the programs on it (I can reinstall those) but My Documents and other files that I had on it are important!!!

Try an application like memmaid or stk tools (or perhaps other people have better ideas/applications) to repair the content. Don't format the card yet!
Good luck

But there's nothing I can do with the device, since it locks-up, it doesn't synchronize with the PC... I actually had MemMaid installed, but the device does not respond. Also, MemMaid was installed on the storage card.
After hard-reset, device working, but still have the same problem with the storage card data (corrupted, lost?).

I have MemMaid installed on device, now. What's next? There's no data recovery tool in it (is there?).
I always had lots of programs installed on the storage card and had absolutely no problems (until now). I usually do that because the device memory fills-up tooooo fast. I had my Hermes for about 1 1/2 years with no problems of any kind.
Hi all,
This always happened to me. In winmobile 6 and now 6.5. For some reasons since yesterday apps which installed to my storage card disconnected it's link or short cuts in the start menu. Now all of the apps in my storage card i can't access from start menu. when i clicked the app icon in my start menu my HD2 responded
"Cant open XXX. File is not registered or not trusted in digital signature, or can't find one of the files elements. Please resintall or restore this file."
I have to go to the file directory in my storage card to run the apps. This is very annoying and very inconivence. Anyone knows why? What's worse is that all of the new apps that i installed to my storage card has the same issue... Which means i can't no longer install apps to my storage card...
Help?

if you go to file explorer can you read your sd card? I had the same issue and it was the sd card that failed so it could not read/find the program it was looking for. Try for kicks copying over some apps to a different storage card and retry. It will at least eliminate that possibility.

I had the same problem you described. It happened after some old program I launched got the phone stuck and I had to pull the battery out to do a reset.
After the boot completed, I started to receive errors when trying to launch programs from the storage card. Uninstalling wouldn't work and reinstalling always failed.
Replacing the sd card didn't help either.
I believe that something corrupted the registry.
I finally gave up and hard reset.
The only good thing that came out of it was getting a new 16GB sd card for me to use.
My happened when i installed a lockscreen cab to my HD2 to the main memory. After that everything i installed to the storage card wont run from the startup menu.
Really? some dude told me to reformat my storage card. I'd rather do a hard resert cuz i have alot of crap in my 16G storage card.
I haven't gave up yet so i will still try to look for my other options... Thanks to know at least i am not the only one who encounter this fu**ing problem...

Gave up and hard reset a couple of times, and i found out that the reason i can't click the icon in my start menu to access the apps which i installed in my storage card. It was because of i change the local and Text. I changed from Taiwan to USA and HD2 will not let me access the apps from start menu. This is very wierd, but if i change back to Region: Chinese Taiwan, then my HD2 is ok again... Just to share with you guys...
