Hello
Yesterday i tried to remove a program on my Qtek9000. But in the add/remove program, where
all installed programs are listed, was nothing! It was empty!
Then I tried to connect to the Computer but without success! An error Message appeared, "Can't
synchronize, please reconnect an try again!"
I can't even install a new program!
Please help me!
Geko
Turn OFF your firewalls then connect your Universal via USB again.
hmm, Doesn't work.
Any other ideas?
I am having similar problems. I have a list of installed programs in the uninstall list. However, whenever I install new softwares, they are not shown in the uninstall list, thus I cannot uninstall any new softwares. Anyone knows what happens?

...your not using phoneAlarm are you?
This is a documented issue with a previous version and is fixed in the latest release.
Matt
Yes PhoneAlarm is an issue and does prevent installed programs to show up in the list of installed programs. If you cannot live without PhoneAlarm (Like Myself) then you have two options:
You can install SKTools. The uninstallation utility in SKTools will still show the list of installed programs even if it is not shown in the generic Windows utility.
The other option involves changing the registry. You will need a registry editor like Resco. The procedure is as follows:
1) go to..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\
2) Select the application directory that is not showing up in the list
3) change the DWORD Role data from 40 to 24
4) Now the application will show up in the list.
Hope this works for you

srmz you are great !!!! It works and I can uninstall programs now.
I have never installed PhoneAlarm, and I forget starting from when this problem appears.
Also thanks matt1971 for rasing the possible reason leading to the problem. You guys are great !!
I now have the same problem - I can't install programs (get a message saying installation was unsuccseful), and when I try to remove programs there are none at all in the list.
All I've done today is install sbp Weather.
All programs work fine, but I also can't change Today Theme - it seems to be stuck on default.
Anyone able to help?
Cheers
Rowan
yes I have the exact same issue...this post is about not being able to sync, install, or uninstall anything....while srmz's post was informational, it didn't help those of us who has this problem...

Thanks
Anthony

i have had this problem, nothing I could do about it, exept to manually delete the stuff, but obviously registry is still a problem.
also, it appears if you restore from a backup, then the remove programs doesnt work, something to do with the installed apps in windows directory and the registries
sorry, no help, only confirmation and acknowledgement of the problem....
Worth looking into SKTools....It properly uninstalls things where the installer fails...I have found it invaluable when trying out software that is 'not quite' WM5 compatible!
This generally works for me:
- Uninstall program.
- If it complains about being unable to uninstall, click "No" when you're asked if you want to remove from Remove Programs list.
- Now do a soft reset with a utility such as Tweaks2k2
- When pda is ready to be used, try to run Uninstall Program again.
This should work for all but the most tenacious of programs. If this still doesn't work, check if the program has a stub running in the Windows\Startup folder. Remove it, and then try the above again.
Things that work for me.
1) Do not have a shortcut on the today screen to a program you wish to un-install, remove it first from here and the Start (menu). Make sure that part of it is not started automatically in /Windows/StartUp folder, if it is delete it.
2) Do a soft reset.
3) Do not go to Start (menu) | Programs. (Do not display it's icon in anyway. See step 1 above.
4) Go at once to Start (menu) | Settings | System | Remove Programs and un-install it.
This generally works for me. Hope it helps.
i agree with dah54 and snorbaard. That usually works for me almost everytime. If it doesn't check running processes and stop the one you are trying to uninstall and then follow their instructions and if all else fails, use SKTools or something similar.
I have had many pocket PC's and the Universal w/WM5 is the only one that gives me consistant installation problems. I had listpro 3.0 installed in program memory. I uninstalled it with the intent of re-installing it on the SD card. Unchecking it from activesync did nothing. Removing from the ppc directly told me that all of the file were not removed. I saw the the folder still existed in program files, do I deleted the directory and shortcuts pointing to it. I have had this exact same problem MANY times
Am I the only one with this problem? I don't find any messages like this.
Next, I try to reinstall listpro and it won't reinstall :x I get a message cannot be installed, try another location (which does not work). Do I need a hard reset? I tryed installing another program and I can still install other stuff, but the removal did not work again.

Hi Gary!
I have a lot of experience in this sh*t. WM5 cannot uninstall or install in a lot of cases. Usually if you still have some files or folders which are on the same location than with the installation, installer says: cannot install. In that case you have to delete (or rename) the folder left, and then you can install it. In other cases installer stays in a loop install condition, and cannot continue. In that case try to install another application to finish somelooped order. I realised another thing, which is very interesting: when you want to uninstall a program, and your pda says it cannot be removed - or something -, if I run Vijay555 killphone application in 98% of the cases after it I can uninstall the same.
I hope this wil help!
Hi,
Perhaps I have been lucky but I havent had any issues with regards to installing or uninstalling programs.
I do make sure that I soft reset before and after - so maybe thats a golden rule!
Matt
Yes, softreset would be a good tip in more cases, but it wouldn't solve the problem when you want to install a program which needs a place what exists.
I did find some files in the windows directory and deleted them. That WORKED. Just doing program files is not enough. In this case, the file name was the same as the program. I don't expect to be that lucky all the time.
I have done soft-resets when it does not work. I do a number of trial programs and tend to forget prior to removal. What a apin
Got to love Microsoft - reboot is the answer to everything.
Installation problems.....
I am having the same problem too.
Even after a hard reset when I try and install Sprite Backup & Agenda Fusion I keep getting the install error: 'cannot be installed, try another location'
It's driving me up the wall! I would have thought after a hard reset this wouldn't be an issue. I'm now the proud owner of an MDA Pro (Universal) that I can't use because the software I want to install won't install.
Can anyone help me please?
This problem has happened to me a few times with different ROMs but I haven't be able to find the pattern nor the solution!
Basically everything starts very well, when I install a new program it appears in "Add/Remove Programs" in Settings. Then at some point strange thing happens, when I install a new program (any program, not specific) it no longer appears on the list! However, I can see it as installed and it actually appears on the "Add/Remove Programs" of ActiveSync(v4.2)! I can remove it by using ActiveSync but not on the device because I can't select it!
And the other strange thing is, I can see the program's folder under "\Windows\AppMgr\" (every program installed manually should has its folder in here as I understand). And I can also see it under the registry "\HKLM\Security\AppInstall\". It just DOES NOT appear on the device "Add/Remove Programs" list! This happens to all programs after the problem starts but those installed before that point are still displayed!
I am wondering if anyone knows the reason why this happens and if there is any solution like registry hack anything like? Although this is not the end of the day as I can still remove them via ActiveSync, it does annoys me because of the fact that I can't remove it directly from the device.
Thanks in advance!!
Try sk tools software , it has a detailed info for add or remove prog.
Hi,
I have the same problem, not certain what caused it, but you can get items back in the list by following the steps below:
Get programs back into uninstall list:
1) go to..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\
2) Select the application directory that is not showing up in the list
3) Change the DWORD Role data from 40 to 24
4) Now the application will show up in the list.
Cheers
Rowan
Excellent!!
Thanks a lot for the advices guys!!
I will try Rowan's suggest first because it is easier and sounds good to me! Only thing is I have flashed my Universal so currently the problem is gone. I will try it if it happens again or I may try it on my Windows Mobile Device Emulator later on.
Hi,
I have a cingular 8525 with the default cingular ROM ( will change it later want to wait a litle while)
I am trying to install a Cab and i get this notification:
the installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions
I know this is a simple registry hack and i seen a couple but I have not seen anything specific to hermes.
Please give me a link to directions
Thank You
Here... Install this CAB to the phone
This did not help
I installed the Remove Security Cab and it installed with no problem, but when i try to install: CommButton-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix.CAB
I still get the same notification.
Thanks
Did more searching still cant solve it
I read some more posts and found that making sure processes are not running might solve the problem.
I went to memory and stoped all programs and I sitll can't install the: CommButton-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix.CAB
Are there like system processes which are not showing up in memory - running programs ? Maybe I need to get into those and stop them?
Any other sugestions?
Please point me into the right direction.
Thank You

Purely on the point of running processes - these will not show up in programmes in memory (except in very broad terms). An application such as sktools will show running processes.
(I am not saying this will solve your problem though)
Mike
ok i will try getting a prog and stoping more stuff to see if i can install?
Any other sugestions?
Tried using SKtools to stop everyhing possible still cant install the CommButton-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix.CAB
Is there anyone out there that knows how to fix this problem???
Please Help
thanks
Is there a way maybe to instead of installing this cab file to do it manualy??
Can I somehow modify registry to do the same as this cab is doing?
thanks
As a general rule, if I have an "unstoppable" process, I power cycle the phone and then execute the cab without opening ANYTHING else (like the comm manager in this case). Give it a shot.
I just tried that turning it off and on and trying to install, also doing soft reset and trying to install. Nothing works as soon as I click on it in a second i get "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions."
Please tell me what else I can try??
Finaly got what I wanted
I never got the stupid cab to install, but I found a different cab which let you assign vibrate to anything ( http://www.8525software.com/)utilities so when i hold PTT button it switches to Vibrate
Thanks for all that tried to help me.
Sorry if there is an answer somewhere already, but I have been looking around for 20 minutes and I'm giving up and posting a thread. I have like five programs that won't uninstall when I go into the settings-->remove programs application. It comes up with a message that says "XXXX was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"
Has anybody had this also? How do I get it completely off my phone/get the memory back?
One more thing, I have a program called "AA AA" and I know for sure that I didn't install a cab with that name, so what the hell is it? I'm a noob with WinMo so sorry if it's simple **** haha.
Thanks in advance

For programs that say they didn't uninstall completely, the method I use to get them out is this:
1) run the cab again, the same one you used to install a/the app in the first place
2) when it gives you option or error dialogs, just click "ok" or "yes" to all of them, to allow it to go through what looks like another complete install process (yes, it's odd, but this is how to do it).
3) when it's done, soft-reset, and then you should find that there's no more trace of the app in your uninstall list.
Don't ask me how/why that works, but I've used it in many instances for just that reason, and it's worked every time I tried it.
As for that "AA AA" app, I've certainly never seen a cab that used that name (fyi, the name in the uninstall list doesn't necessarily match the name of the cab file...only if the person creating it set it up that way). So...I'd just say uninstall it, and see if any apps/links are missing then.
This thread is closest to my problem,so I'm asking here.
I cant uninstall ANY of my programs, I have tried the usual method from the remove programs section in Settings. I get same error as OP.
When that failed I then try to just delete the program folder from program files, using file explorer, but get an error saying 'Access is denied. Be certain the folder isn't in use and not write protected'
At first I thought I had a memory card problem, but its the same regardless of where the program is installed.
I also tried to re-install the programs from their cab files as described above, but get an 'unsuccessful' message.
I cant rename any files anywhere on my device either.
I know a little about write protection, but cant figure out what my problem is or how to fix it.
I hope I explained properly for someone to help.
Thanks.
It looks like that the installer process "wceload.exe" was not correctly quit and is still in the memory. Terminate the process wceload.exe with a task manager and try again.
Thanks ElectronX.
I did a search on my HD2 for the file you mentioned and couldn't find it. I have Duttys task manager installed and after a soft reset, the problem still remains. The task manager is empty of processes when I start the device.
Im sorry that Im a bit clueless to how to achieve what you suggest.
I have discovered that the problem extends beyond removing and installing programs. I cant do anything in file explorer other than open documents. If I want to move, delete, rename any file on the device I get the 'write protected' error message. I cant do it via active sync either..I connected to the computer and could browse my device, but if I tried deleting, moving or renaming, the message said it didn't have permission to do it.
Last resort is a hard reset, but hopefully someone will be able to help.
Use sktools to uninstall when windows fails. Best program ever...
Good luck
Thanks, but I cant install anything on my device...can sktools be run from my computer to fix the device?
Unfortunately not...
Good luck though..
