Probably not as good as the Rikaline or the Holux 236 which is by far the best i've tried but for they are nearly double the price
Even uses the same kind of charger as the Wizard so effectively you get a free in-car charger for you PPC thrown in.
I successfully use a generic Nemerix based GPS mouse from adapt. You can find these rather cheap GPS device in many varities (lots of OEM manufacturers) on eBay.
In conjunction with TT5.2 it works like a charm.
Any suggestions for a good light GPS to fasten in the helmet. I have plans to track my routes during mountainbike tours.

OK everyone points at TomTom as the best option...is this so?
Any feedback will be greatly received and if I do go for it, I will probably go for their bundle...

Im using a BT77 Bluetooth GPS. It provides a really great signal even inside, however I have had problems with the wizard, in that I have to drop and then re-partner the device in bluetooth, everytime I want to use it, but Im currently thinking its the MS Bluetooth stack at fault and not the Device, anyone have a similar experience ?

I already have the tomtom wired gps receiver which i use with my ipaq 2210. I know the receiver connector wont fit onto my wizard but is there any kind of adapter that will change it from ipaq to wizard (min usb i think).

hi, i am using TTN 5 on my wizard and MKIII bluetooth GPS, i have used it without any problems, but saying that i had some problems installing it.
but after i updated my to 2.1. its works a treat.

Afraid not. Wired receivers will not work on Wizard/K-Jam etc.. full stop. you need to get a BT GPS receiver.
I picked a cheap one up from www.mobilefun.co.uk for £40 and works a treat. 5 fixes even in car glove box
The Tomtom Bt Gps is the easiest one to connect to the wizard, other brands u may need to set comm ports in Tomtom navigator.
So far I tested Holux SIRF3, Tomtom MK2, Leadtek sirf3, all were working fine.
my Tomtom MKIII works perfectly with Wiz.
I'm using a BT880 picked up on ebay (new) for £30.
Works fine with my qtek (imate rom) and tomtom5.

the problem is i cannot connect the holux 236 to the s100 or magician.
rom version is 1.12.00WWE.I tried pocket bluetooth tools but no luck.
the gps viewer gets nothing and also the destinator pn shows that no gps is available...
please help in any way...a walkthrough would be welcome since i am a newbie with ppc...

Hi, have you had any success with any other gps reciever opr is this the first one you try?
Suppose you have tries to enter the sw program and then configure the reciever with your magician? Is this where the trouble is?
this is the first one to use.
s100 gives com 5 to the gps but still no luck with ddestinator.states that no gps is present.
maybe a bluetooth stack problem?

Switch on Bluetooth and Pair the device using pass key 0000
Then DO NOT connect the device
Enter GPS Viewer 1.5 and select (Bluetooth) COM Port 6 (may be something else on your device). Select Open GPS and you should start getting data...

The whole problem is that I cannot get my Qtek 9100 to show the spp slave service. This seems to be a qtek problem because none of my other BT devices will show it either. They showed fine with my old HP 6365. :?
I am not sure in that case... I cannot remember but does it use Widcomm Stack or M$?
I'm not sure what stack they use. I don't think it's Widcomm, because my HP BT keyboard won't connect and the reason is that it says there is no Widcomm stack. Go figure.

OK, I have this BT receiver, works perfectly with my mini. Have you added any bluetooth stacks in addition the default ? When you search for devices does the Bt find the Holux? Is it switched on and charged? Don't know how new you are to bluetooth devices, but bear in Mind that a brand new Bt device out of the box may take up to 30 minutes to get a fix for the first time.
no new stacks added,device is charged.
gps pairs with s100,asks if it should create a port,i reply yes and i press finish.in the bluetooth menu at the com ports i press new outgoing port and i am asked to choose a device.i select holux,press next and nothing happens....so whats the deal here?in the bluetooth serial port setup i check the outbound com port:com 5 beforehand.so please tell me what am i doing wrong this time....is there something i didnt do or something i did...?
Ok, so the pairing came up fine. Thats one thing out of the way.
Now, forget selecting outgoing or incoming ports, its completely useless, doesn't work. I have TOMTOM and have selected "Other Bluetooth Device" and selected COM5, it works fine. Could be your com port is being occupied by other bluetooth such as Activesync.
Delete all paired devices, Go to Start, Settings, Bluetooth Setting and check that "Outbound COM port: COM5" is ticked only, click OK then try pairing your Holux and try again. It does work with the mini, I promise!!
I got a 236 slim and no problem with MS BT stack.

WELL i did try,trust me!at what point should the orange led light up???it should first communicate with the gps viewer and then start blinking or something?cause so far the orange led has not shown its colors........is this normal or do i have a faulty gps?????????????
Hmmm sounds like a faulty unit. Ive had my 236 for a couple of days now and it worked first time with Tomtom, just selected 'Other device' and 'Com5'
Im really impressed by this unit, even gets 5-6 satellites indoors !
When you turn the unit on the orange LED should be on all the time (searching) then after about 45 secs it should start to flash indicating that it has locked onto satellites. If you arent getting any light from the orange LED it does suggest a faulty unit

I have TomTom software installed on my Atom, I've tried using a Polstar Bluetooth GPS unit to see if that would work but it fails to read the correct Comm port on the atom.
Does anyone know if this is compatible with the Atom, or of any other GPS devices (bluetooth or cabled) that would work?

What's the battery use like if in use? The problem is that the lighter socket in my car is 'dodgy' to say the least, so the longer the life before i have to charge the better
(hmm...I predict being guided somewhere, losing battery life on GPS, and getting lost....SatNav at its finest.......)
The BT-77 (Nemerix chipset) from e-bay also works really well, especially considering the price. I have used this in Australia, UK and the US and have had no problems pairing it with the Atom.
Battery life is also good, as I've used it for a whole day with no sign of running out.

Kropotov, I can get it to pair ok, and I have tried setting outgoing ports. The problem is that it won't allow me to set the outgoing port to the correct COM port that I need for the GPS. It comes up with an error.
I checked up on this from Polstar and they said to adjust registry settings. But even this doesn't work and they couldn't give me any information with regards to compatability. But I know the Polstar one I had works as it was working on an iPAQ 6340, installing it as a cable GPS device and setting the baud rate. The outgoing com ports on bluetooth could be set to the relevant ones for the device, and pairing was straight-forward.
Problem with GPS Reciver on Atom XDA with Tomtom
Hello, i've installed Tomtom 5.21 and the maps and everything is Ok. but i can't make the link between my gps reciver (Royaltek Star III) and the atom XDA. I've installed the partnership in the settings but it doesn't connect with the antenna. I've seen in my other pda (ipaq hx4700 and ipaq hx2790) that there is a bluetooth manager in the connection setting but there is non in the atom XDA. Do you know what's the solution ?
I've the same problem than you for the outgoing ports, i can't choose the one i want and i can't find the good port in tomtom gps settings.

it's very strange... i have all com ports free, and can choose all, include 8, that tomtom need. Do you have other bluetooth devices, pared with Atom?
I'm using a Garmin GPS10. To get around similar com port issues i install Franson's GPSGATE. A downloadable trial is available to try before you buy. The two advantages of this software solution is that you can nominate virtual com ports meaning you determoine the com port for the TomTom software and secondly you can use more than one GPS software package simultaneously. I run both Garmin Que (navigation) and OziExlorer (topographic and mapping) at the same time. You can't do this without GPSGate. Many bluetooth GPS devices drop their connections regularly. I find that GPSGate holds the connection better and reconnects quickly if it does drop. I highly recommend you try this before chasing around for different GPS devices.

Atom with BT GPS
I am using the Atom with the Holux GPSlim236 and it works like a charm.
Rated GPS battery life is 10Hrs and it uses the nokia 6xxx handphone battery so easy to charge and/or replace when battery gets old.
I had some problems using it initially 'cos built right into the Atom is a GPS management software that manages GPS connections apparently so that you can run more than one GPS application in the Atom and all the applications can share the GPS data. However I find that turning this on tends to lockup the GPS application (MapKing) and sometimes causes lost connections. TURN THIS OFF. Besides, I don't see myself using more than one GPS application (but that may change ! looking for a good track logging software - anyone knows one ?).
The other thing I noticed which makes the connection more reliable is to turn off the secure serial communication.
With those two settings off, works like a charm and no more problems !

I've just got an xda exec and i wanted to use tomtom on it so i purchased a Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth receiver to use with it.
I bought this receiver as i saw that someone on ebay had the same set up and said it worked fine.
The problem i have is that the exec will find the gps receiver but will not seem to talk to it, the instructions that came with it say to go through bluetooth manager but on exec there is no bluetooth manager only option to turn on etc.

I use the exact same receiver Holux 236.
I just start bluetooth on XDA EXEC then start Holux ..wait 20 seconds ... turn on TomTom wait for about 60 seconds and it works.
The only think to remeber is that when you first pair the Holux with your XDA EXEC you must tick serial port and make sure it is using COM0.
If COM0 is in use by any other bluetooth device. Delete that device, pair the Holux allocating COM0 and then pair the gadget you deleted again and it should work.
Hope this makes sense and works for you.
Holux 236 is a great device so you will be pleased once all working.

I've paired the device ok. i've selected incoming com as com 0 and turned everything on in that order.
When i go into tomtom to configure the gps i now get the option com 0 but still no joy any ideas.

sounds like it should work. Thats all I did to get it to work.
Is the blue light on Holux flashing ? and the orange light on ?
Go into tomtom , setup a route and see if that helps.

You need the port set up as an OUTGOING post - not an incoming.
Then it should work fine (whatever com# you have got)
Also ensure the name of the BT GPS when paired/found actually ends in "GPS" - then TomTom will find it fine..

I often had a problem with BT GPS connections being unreliable, constantly losing a signal and taking upwards of 10 minutes getting a lock again. What I found out is that when setting up the outgoing connection to COM0 is to uncheck the secure connection box. Since I did that I had no connection, stability or drop off issues. It seems the secure connection actually blocks the GPS signal and messes up the receiver. I have used 3 different Holux units (sent back suspect faulty, now I know different), BT-77 and now Zycast. It happened with my mates Holux as well.
If it doesn't help you it may help others with the same problem anyway.

Do you know how to get the XDA EXEC to work with BT GPS
FGPXBT02 as I am really struggling to get this device to work. My phone can see the device in bluetooth but when I run TomTom 5 on the phone the program cannot see the GPS device in the connection.
Any ideas?

How did it work for you? I bought the iGPS too but I can't seem to figure out how to use it with my Wing. Do I still have to mess with the "External GPS" settings? I'm planning on using it with Windows Live Search. It connects fine, I guess I'm just a bit clueless trying to get it to work.

Just a query I am awaiting the arrival of my External B/T GPS to suit my Imate Jasjam I have Tomtom 6 installed my question is ...Is there any tricks to getting this working prior to my stuffing around with it
Hey bongo333, What I would suggest, as I use Tomtom 6 with ext, GPS reciever, is to wait to pair GPS with the jasjam before running tomtom the first time.
This allows you the option of which com port you wish the GPS reciever to use(I use 4). I believe tomtom uses as default 9 or 3. I believe your BT handsfree has com 03 reserved which means you have to use com 09.
When you get your GPS reciever, pair with jasjam but make sure you tick "serial port".
Then, from the tabs at the bottom of the screen in bluetooth settings, select com ports. click "select new outgoing port" then select port of your choice(Please remember that some com ports are "Reserved and cant be picked).
Start tomtom and when prompted select which type of gps you are using(other bluetooth reciver) then pick the com port you selected as the outgoing port for your GPS.
Please note that I have tried a 16 channel GPS and now have a 54 channel GPS and the more recievers the better reception and less time to lock onto a signal.

Excellent description I just picked it up and had it running on the way home I couldn't ask for anything better for that price $80 Ebay Holux M-1000b (for others info) exactly as you said used bluetooth prior to Tomtom and MUST assign com port or no go by the way do you know where I can get the latest Aust maps. I have Tomtom 6 but I'm told there is a newer version of the S/w but maps are more important.

What software are you using for the keychain bluetooth GPS reciever? and do you need to be connected to 3G or internet to have the software working?
Ive been using an external GPS that i got on ebay about a year and a half ago for about $60 AUD.
For maps im using Tomtom which works great.
