I have TomTom software installed on my Atom, I've tried using a Polstar Bluetooth GPS unit to see if that would work but it fails to read the correct Comm port on the atom.
Does anyone know if this is compatible with the Atom, or of any other GPS devices (bluetooth or cabled) that would work?

What's the battery use like if in use? The problem is that the lighter socket in my car is 'dodgy' to say the least, so the longer the life before i have to charge the better
(hmm...I predict being guided somewhere, losing battery life on GPS, and getting lost....SatNav at its finest.......)
The BT-77 (Nemerix chipset) from e-bay also works really well, especially considering the price. I have used this in Australia, UK and the US and have had no problems pairing it with the Atom.
Battery life is also good, as I've used it for a whole day with no sign of running out.

Kropotov, I can get it to pair ok, and I have tried setting outgoing ports. The problem is that it won't allow me to set the outgoing port to the correct COM port that I need for the GPS. It comes up with an error.
I checked up on this from Polstar and they said to adjust registry settings. But even this doesn't work and they couldn't give me any information with regards to compatability. But I know the Polstar one I had works as it was working on an iPAQ 6340, installing it as a cable GPS device and setting the baud rate. The outgoing com ports on bluetooth could be set to the relevant ones for the device, and pairing was straight-forward.
Problem with GPS Reciver on Atom XDA with Tomtom
Hello, i've installed Tomtom 5.21 and the maps and everything is Ok. but i can't make the link between my gps reciver (Royaltek Star III) and the atom XDA. I've installed the partnership in the settings but it doesn't connect with the antenna. I've seen in my other pda (ipaq hx4700 and ipaq hx2790) that there is a bluetooth manager in the connection setting but there is non in the atom XDA. Do you know what's the solution ?
I've the same problem than you for the outgoing ports, i can't choose the one i want and i can't find the good port in tomtom gps settings.

it's very strange... i have all com ports free, and can choose all, include 8, that tomtom need. Do you have other bluetooth devices, pared with Atom?
I'm using a Garmin GPS10. To get around similar com port issues i install Franson's GPSGATE. A downloadable trial is available to try before you buy. The two advantages of this software solution is that you can nominate virtual com ports meaning you determoine the com port for the TomTom software and secondly you can use more than one GPS software package simultaneously. I run both Garmin Que (navigation) and OziExlorer (topographic and mapping) at the same time. You can't do this without GPSGate. Many bluetooth GPS devices drop their connections regularly. I find that GPSGate holds the connection better and reconnects quickly if it does drop. I highly recommend you try this before chasing around for different GPS devices.

Atom with BT GPS
I am using the Atom with the Holux GPSlim236 and it works like a charm.
Rated GPS battery life is 10Hrs and it uses the nokia 6xxx handphone battery so easy to charge and/or replace when battery gets old.
I had some problems using it initially 'cos built right into the Atom is a GPS management software that manages GPS connections apparently so that you can run more than one GPS application in the Atom and all the applications can share the GPS data. However I find that turning this on tends to lockup the GPS application (MapKing) and sometimes causes lost connections. TURN THIS OFF. Besides, I don't see myself using more than one GPS application (but that may change ! looking for a good track logging software - anyone knows one ?).
The other thing I noticed which makes the connection more reliable is to turn off the secure serial communication.
With those two settings off, works like a charm and no more problems !

I have just received a Holux GPSlim236 to go with my Qtek S110, but I am having really hard time getting it to work. The software I am using at the moment is the GPS View, which comes with the reciever.
I have been able to pair them, but that is as far as I get. GPS View cannot see it, neither can some software called GPS Speed Sentry (which has worked with a previous GPS reciever).I have also been on www.pocketgps.co.uk, but I still have not been able to get it working. They keep on mentioning about changing the GPS Com Port, but I cannot find how to do this in Windows Mobile 2003SE. Has anyone been able to sort this out before?
Also do different companies version of Windows Mobile 2003SE differ. For Example could QTEKs Windows Mobile have different bluetooth options compared to Imate, O2 or TMobile? Could this be a reason why I cannot change the COM Port?
If anyone has been able to sort it out, can they let me know, as it is causing BIG headaches!!!

I found the Holux GPS viewer v1.05 unreliable and replaced it.
I Searched the internet and downloaded TomTom's GPS driver v2.08. I suspect that TomTom BlueTooth GPS is a rebadged Holux product.
Using the v2.08 driver select GPS and on the top of display drop down menu select TomTom Wireless GPS.
Next select from second drop down list Bluetooth Serial port and COM6.
Select Status and please make certain when using the Satellite receiver that your pocket PC BlueTooth Manager is turned ON.

COM ports for GPS receiver
Just do the following:
go to
START - SETTINGS - Bluetooth Settings
Check that you have a Bluetooth Serial Port Setup
Inbound COM port: COM4
after that pair the gps receiver with your device.
When your software tries to connect to the gps receiver tell it that it's connect to COM4
That's the way I got mine working with route 66.

Even uses the same kind of charger as the Wizard so effectively you get a free in-car charger for you PPC thrown in.
I successfully use a generic Nemerix based GPS mouse from adapt. You can find these rather cheap GPS device in many varities (lots of OEM manufacturers) on eBay.
In conjunction with TT5.2 it works like a charm.
Any suggestions for a good light GPS to fasten in the helmet. I have plans to track my routes during mountainbike tours.

Im using a BT77 Bluetooth GPS. It provides a really great signal even inside, however I have had problems with the wizard, in that I have to drop and then re-partner the device in bluetooth, everytime I want to use it, but Im currently thinking its the MS Bluetooth stack at fault and not the Device, anyone have a similar experience ?

hi, i am using TTN 5 on my wizard and MKIII bluetooth GPS, i have used it without any problems, but saying that i had some problems installing it.
but after i updated my to 2.1. its works a treat.

Afraid not. Wired receivers will not work on Wizard/K-Jam etc.. full stop. you need to get a BT GPS receiver.
I picked a cheap one up from www.mobilefun.co.uk for £40 and works a treat. 5 fixes even in car glove box
The Tomtom Bt Gps is the easiest one to connect to the wizard, other brands u may need to set comm ports in Tomtom navigator.
So far I tested Holux SIRF3, Tomtom MK2, Leadtek sirf3, all were working fine.
my Tomtom MKIII works perfectly with Wiz.
I'm using a BT880 picked up on ebay (new) for £30.
Works fine with my qtek (imate rom) and tomtom5.

I seem to be having a problem with GPS bluetooth related connections with my Dopod 838 Pro.
Ive paired my Globalsat BT338 receiver and setup an outgoing serial port on my Dopod, and I can use Destinator 6 and TomTom 6 fine (for the time being).
The next day/time when I try to start the GPS applications, both programs report that they cant find the GPS signal/receiver even though its been correctly configured to work previously.
I then have to enter the Bluetooth settings to change and assign another outgoing serial port and reconfigure the GPS applications to the new serial port to work.
The programs and the GPS receiver worked fine with my old iPAQ hx4700 so its not a receiver or program issue.
I'm at my wits end and would appreciate any info on solving this problem.

Delete / unpair your GPS
Make a new pair, and when you assign an outgoing COM port, use a NON secure COM port.
(Deselect the checkbox)

Ive been through this unpair / pair scenario more than a few times and Ive never used a secure com port connection.
try destinator PN 6
also make sure you pair BEFORE starting Destinator PN; I spent a whole two days before I Got this to work ... then once it worked .. the answer was actually quite logical
sorry cant remember how i did it as it was months ago when I got and paired my tytn; now I use destinator pn 6

Is it the Bluetooth connection you are having problems with or getting a GPS signal. I have this exact setup working fine. What I notice is that often it will take a few minutes for the BT-338 to find enough satellites to provide a GPS signal (green light flashing). The bluetooth should connect immediately regardless of whether the GPS signal is available yet. The blue light on the BT-338 should flash twice as fast as when you first turn it on to tell you that it is connected to a Bluetooth device.
I am using TomTom 6 and it will say no GPS signal or GPS signal lost XX seconds ago. Is this similar to what you are noticing?

Hi,
Both the bluetooth reciever and the software work fine and obtain a fix.
the next time the software is started it cant find the reciver and i have to unpair, repair and set a new comm port for it to work.
the gps reciver obtains a fix but the pda cant see it.
Destinator PN has an automatic reconnect tick box on the GPS Settings page. I don't know if D6 or TT have a similar thing. If so, make sure this box is ticked.
I use D PN with a Parrot CK3300 combined handsfree and GPS receiver, and after major stuffing around trying to get D PN set to the correct port initially, it has worked fine since.
Ive sorted the issue out and hopefully this will help others experiencing the same problem.
The problem was that although an outgoing serial port was setup, for some reason it was not mapped to the bluetooth device.
It just specified "COM9" instead of having the bluetooth device "BT338(COM9)" under the bluetooth COM Ports setting.
This seems to be the reason why when the device was unpaired/paired and a com port setup it worked for the time being. After the bluetooth device was disconnected the settings mapping to the device were not retained.

I had the same problem until recently.
To fix I did the following:
Delete pair with GPS receiver,
Create new pair with GPS receiver (put in passkey 0000)
Tick the box for Serial Port
The in Bluetooth Settings -> COM Ports tab, I clicked 'New Outgoing Port'
Selected the GPS unit, and selected Port 4 and unticked the 'Secure' checkbox
Now open TomTom, Select Change Preferences, then Show GPS Status, then Configure, then Other Bluetooth Receiver, then Select COM 4.
Now TT works as it should - turning on and off Bluetooth on Open/Close, and no problems with needing to re-pair.
Previously I had always paired the BT GPS on COM 0 with Secure ticked. This worked the first time only, and I had to re-create the same pair each time I wanted to run the app.
Hope this helps some of you.
(btw I was using TT6 when I found the solution, but I imagine it would have worked for 5 too)
dopod bluetooth problems
Guys I have the same problem with my bluetooth and my dopod. It connects then disconnects.
I have also noticed that the systems unchecks the turn on bluetooth check box and the make this device discoverable to other devices.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Guys I just read this at another forum.
"The Dopod 838 pro and WM5 have chronic problems with the bluetooth stack, which is why everyone is waiting for the new ROM to appear, which will hopefully be WM6. HTC (manufacturers of Dopod 838 pro) announced that the new ROM will fix all of the known problems"
This I learn after having a car accident (minor) in my car playing with the bluetooth and trying to get it to work. Hutchison 3g should only be selling these with a warning.
I assume there is also a problem with the JasJam as they are the same phone.

Have to concur with Knight_Mayor. Was having trouble getting a signal/satellite fix using a Holux GPSlim236. Then I set it to COM9 with the "Secure" box unchecked. I had barely closed the window and my M3100 had a fix from inside my house! (tomtom 6 had been running in the background whilst the adjustments were being made)

yeah i recon its the screwy MS bluetooth stack, im interested to hear from anyone running tomtom on hermes with the widcomm bluetooth

I have found that the best cure for gps woes and pocket pc is to use GPS Gate. It make a virtual com port and will always be the same. I have used it always and never have problems connecting.

Hi, Need help.
I've just got an xda exec and i wanted to use tomtom on it so i purchased a Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth receiver to use with it.
I bought this receiver as i saw that someone on ebay had the same set up and said it worked fine.
The problem i have is that the exec will find the gps receiver but will not seem to talk to it, the instructions that came with it say to go through bluetooth manager but on exec there is no bluetooth manager only option to turn on etc.

I use the exact same receiver Holux 236.
I just start bluetooth on XDA EXEC then start Holux ..wait 20 seconds ... turn on TomTom wait for about 60 seconds and it works.
The only think to remeber is that when you first pair the Holux with your XDA EXEC you must tick serial port and make sure it is using COM0.
If COM0 is in use by any other bluetooth device. Delete that device, pair the Holux allocating COM0 and then pair the gadget you deleted again and it should work.
Hope this makes sense and works for you.
Holux 236 is a great device so you will be pleased once all working.

I've paired the device ok. i've selected incoming com as com 0 and turned everything on in that order.
When i go into tomtom to configure the gps i now get the option com 0 but still no joy any ideas.

sounds like it should work. Thats all I did to get it to work.
Is the blue light on Holux flashing ? and the orange light on ?
Go into tomtom , setup a route and see if that helps.

Then it should work fine (whatever com# you have got)
Also ensure the name of the BT GPS when paired/found actually ends in "GPS" - then TomTom will find it fine..

I often had a problem with BT GPS connections being unreliable, constantly losing a signal and taking upwards of 10 minutes getting a lock again. What I found out is that when setting up the outgoing connection to COM0 is to uncheck the secure connection box. Since I did that I had no connection, stability or drop off issues. It seems the secure connection actually blocks the GPS signal and messes up the receiver. I have used 3 different Holux units (sent back suspect faulty, now I know different), BT-77 and now Zycast. It happened with my mates Holux as well.
If it doesn't help you it may help others with the same problem anyway.

Do you know how to get the XDA EXEC to work with BT GPS
FGPXBT02 as I am really struggling to get this device to work. My phone can see the device in bluetooth but when I run TomTom 5 on the phone the program cannot see the GPS device in the connection.
Any ideas?

I'm trying to get these to pair but although the XDA sees the Holox and makes a pair I'm getting a steady light on the Holox showing no active connection between the two.
It seems to be a com port issue. The only incoming com port available through Bluetooth->Connection settings is COM5. I've downloded Pocket Bluetooth Tools and attempted to configure the connection as a Serial port, but the only port available for selection is COM7. Presumably this is why they won't pair up properly? I read things about 'creating com ports' and such like but I see no way to do that on my OS.
The GPS does not have any software with it, all that's on the cd is an installation guide. The Holox website looks extinct so no help there.
I haven't tried to put any satnav software on the XDA yet, if that makes any difference. I have TomTom 5 (a used copy so not sure if it will activate!).

Oops never mind - the clue was in the GPS software, or lack of it. I've installed a freeware gps prog and the holox is blinking away happily now

Ok!,the best way ( form experience) to pair most of the GPS devices with A PDA, no matter which one with WM2003 or later is to use GPSGate software from Franson http://franson.com/gpsgate/ , this will allow you to split the hardware S.Port to more than one virtually, and starts the BT automatically ones you set it....
