POP3 Email attachment not deleted - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Sometimes I checked and downloaded complete email with attachment when I was out. Then the same emails would eventually be downloaded from the PC (and thus deleted from the POP server).
And the next time I check mails from the same account, the emails which I had downloaded before would be cleared from the Inbox on PPC. Fine, however as times goes by, I noticed that there are still many files under the folder Attachement which eat up a lot of storage space. Apparently they were not automatically deleted together with the mails.
So, how do I safely remove them? The last time I deleted one of the files under this folder, it screwed up my Inbox on my Xda II -- some phantom emails which refused to be deleted.

When you say delete, are you SURE that they aren't going into the deleted items folder?

I did not delete the mails, they "vanish" during the subsequent checking and downloading mail from the POP3 server. I suppose WM5 must have a reason for clearing these messages from the device as they no longer exist in the POP server. However, I find that when this happens, the attachments are usually left behind.

Here si the fix on the HTC and disappearing emails
1 start/message/click email account/menu/tools/options/tap email account/edit account setup/next/next/next/next/next/download message 3 pls days/advance setting/keep them on server/next/ finish
Do this for all accounts
Now go to your computer and outlook tools/email accounts/view or change email account/next/change/ more settings/advanced/leave copy on server/ how many days is up to you
You must do this for all you accounts on that computer. then do the same to all the computer you use to get the same e-mails.

Mail disappearing...

has any experience mail disappearing? I had about 10 emails with attachments and they're all gone. I have mail deletion set to Manually so I know its not that. is there a problem with Pocket Outlook randomly deleting emails?
mine also deletes any mails older than a few days when I check for new msgs using pop3
make sure that if you are using pop3 you go to settings an advanced and select how may days emails you want to download, with push email (activesync) do the same in the activesync settings.
I have see the same thing happen a few times.
I downloaded an email that had an attachment. I then clicked the option to download the full email with attachment. I then click send/recieve and the mail had just vanished. After a soft reset its there again but with no attachment. I went around and around in a circle until eventually the email was there with the attachment, which was corrupt!
Gave up and deleted it in the end.

Outlook problem

I successfully configured my outlook to receive my gmail messages. A big problem that I am having is that after my email is downloaded, i'll read it but then when I come back later, the message is no longer there.
It not even in the deleted items folder (messages I delete are still there though). Btw I set gmail to archive messages after downloading them POP, but can this be the reason?

phone deletes emails by itself

not sure how this is happining or if its my mistake. but this has happenened to my more than once. the phone simply decides to deletes all emails prior to a spesific date without any confirmation. thank god that there it a copy of them in the deleted folder on exchange server
anybody else suffering from this?
Normal
This is normal, outlook is designed so it only keeps emails from a certain number of days into the past, according to the email settings.
Enter you email settings and tell it to keep the emails from the maximum allowable time, I can't remember how long but the increments were something like Today, last 3 days .... etc.
it deletes all mails that are no longer on the server, nothing to do about it, except as a workaround maybe moving important mails from inbox to antother folder
correct me if im wrong here
but i am under the impression that the number of days in the activesync options is only for the initial sync with your exchange acount
I have the same problem. Once in a while my Gmail Inbox is empty. Glad it is saved in 'All Mail' but the behaviour is very irritating
Are you connecting to your mailbox, i.e. gmail-server or just syncing with your Outlook?
When using POP3 to connect to the gmail-server, it will download all mail to your phone, and thus delete the messages on the server.
Try to connect via IMAP4 and go to the settings of your gmail-account on your phone. There you can change the number of days to something like all messages- just for your gmail-account.
The phone handles "imported" mail from outlook like a "real" email-account on the net. Thus, you can set the number of days independently for each account.
i use exchange outlook
why cant widows mobile be like blackberry it keeps all the email(compressed text on the phone) even when you remove the email to the local pst file it still stays on the device
I doenst matter if it imap or pop3, you can setup pop3 to leave a copy of the mail on the server btw.
But as soon as the mail is no longer on the mailserver (for example after downloading without keeping a copy on the server with your desktop pc) windows mobile will delete the mail from its inbox to next time you check for new mails.

Downloading and Deleting Emails

I've got two problems with this phone.
1. even though I have selected to download full email including attachments in ActiveSync, for most emaiks only the headers were downloaded.
2. is there a way to delete email on htc sense UI rather than opening up the Windows mobile email interface
if you have opened the e-mail from the htc sense e-mail app you can delete it.
but that and other things don't seem to work with imap. I delete an e-mail and I don't see it anymore but it is still there when I go to my account and it isn't even flagged as "to be deleted". and it can't seem to see mail that are older then 1 week ago. stupid app
I think I'm experiencing the same problem. I have a gmail account setup on the phone i have it set to check every 30mins.
If I delete an email on my phone, it goes to the recycle bin but even after another sync, i can log onto gmail account via the computer and the email is still there, which means I have to delete it via the computer if i really want to get rid of it. Its a bit of a pain.
I previously setup a hotmail account and when I deleted the email on the phone, after another sync it would delete it from the account proper.
Does anyone know if this is due to any specific settings?
Thanks

N1 keeps reloading deleted emails

I have tried a search but cannot find any help,
I have the problem of pushed emails from British Telecom and Tesco being re-sent after I have deleted them from my N1. I do not want to delete them from the servers as I tend to just take a quick look on my phone and a longer look on my pc when I get home.I am getting the same deleted 60+ emails downloaded onto my phone 3 or 4 times a day some dated 01.01.1970 and that includes most of them which have been deleted from the servers using my pc.
Thanks for any advice.

Stop deleting them on your phone?
What kinda of setup do you have for your email, imap or pop.
If you have imap you can't have two different versions of your inbox.
If you have pop, mark it as read, delete (make sure you turn off the "delete from server" option). Although I think this will redownload the email the next times it checks your pop server.
Both pop I think. It is only the last couple of days that this has been happening, up till then, when I deleted an email from my phone, it stayed deleted.
I think I may have solved this problem, I have been using a trial version of MS Office 2010 on my pc and Outlook 2010 has overwritten my existing MS Mail and the default settings on Outlook 2010 is not to delete message from server where as my old MS mail auto deleted after being forwarded to my pc. So mails have stayed on the server and been downloaded and re-downloaded to my N1.
Thanks for your help muncheese
