Looks good - Another T-Mobile page still shows the Vario with Co-Pilot on this tariff at £119.99
Yeah , it is under "special offers" - look under the "300 mins for £14.50 for 12 months" deals
Thanks joker3001 ! just ordered one
Was looking for a reason to buy a Wizard anyway (or at least something to justify it to the wife  ) and the Sat Nav does just that !
Soon , the battle between the Universal & the Wizard will commence - pending a T-moble credit check of course
Cheers dude
Is this phone any different from the SX56?
I just installed the XDA ROM software into my SX56 and unlocked the AT&T phone which now accepts TMobile (the phone accepts my SIM card and TMobile made a call to me which came in). I am paying $19.95 a month and have had the service for about eight years
The problem I am having is that my phone screen now doesnt respond properly: Touching it causes the backlight to go on but most of the keys dont do what one would expect them to do: The phone turns on with a reminder from the calendar on the screen which wont DISMISS or CLOSE. Pressing on the windows logo and then on the phone key causes the calendar to come up and I am not sure which numbers are entered when I do manage to get the phone to come onto the screen (none of the right hand numbers seem to work at all). Does anyone recognise these symptoms and/or could they just show that my SX56 needs the ROM RE-flashing? I should add that pressing the Master Reset button with this ROM in place seems to make the phone shut off and then when you restart it, all of the data remains in place. I wonder if there is any possibility that the XDA ROM has prevented the reset button from working normally?
But then I saw this ad: The SDA site implies that all these phones are the same under the skin although an article written in 2002 http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/tmobile-pocketpc.pdf implies that the manufacturer was coming out with some different processor at that stage and that the processor in the Wallaby was then already obsolete: Does anyone know if this phone represents any advance on the SX56 or is it newer or is my phone exactly the same as this one or is my SX56 actually better? (I already have the COPILOT software independently). Or is it just the same walllaby in a different casing which TMobile are tyring to get rid of because the manufacturer is as uncooperative iwth them as they are with anyone else?
Anybody had any luck with this?
I just called T-Mobile sales to ask what was included with the Copilot kit and was told that they are not honouring this offer due to a mistake. Worth a try anyway?
Mistake, but IS this phone any different from the SX56?
What the mistake was may be relevant: I just called them and they said they WERE although they had at first said that the CoPilot was extra and wasnt included with the price. I didnt take it any further as I couldn't figure out whether the phone they are offering is any different to the one I already have

Sounds like the digitiser is up the swanee - have you tried recalibrating it?

It's a completely different phone. The Vario is an HTC Wizard with T-Mobile branding. There's plenty of info on this site on the differences between models.

Never heard of Google, or even http://wiki.xda-developers.com/?
Pricing mistake
The sales chap I spoke to said that the free Copilot offer only applies to other phones - it should cost £120 with the Vario. However, he said he works for direct sales, not the web sales team, so advised me to give it a go anyway, which I have done. It's before the 7.30pm cutoff for next day delivery, so I'll give you an update tomorrow...

Their "mistake" excuse is weak - if it is, why haven't they taken the page down?
It clearly states on that page Vario with co pilot. Whats the problem ? Get it bought
Re: Is this phone any different from the SX56?
"Sounds like the digitiser is up the swanee - have you tried recalibrating it?"
Not sure how to reclalibrate it but the problem appears to be that I dropped it and 10-12 vertical black lines started appearing to the right hand edge of the screen. Sometimes they are there, sometimes not. THere is usually at last one there somewhere. At about that time the screen stopped responding as I mention. Today the left third started displaying the same veritcal lines, though spaced quite far apart (about a millimetre). Screen doesn't APPEAR cracked: Does this sound like a digitiser and if so, how do you recalibrate it please or is there a link to somewhere on the XDA site which I cant find which might tell me? Or could it be the cable loose in the circuit board? As you touch the lower right hand corner of the metal casing where the vertical lines are, those lines flash (the right 10 or 12) on and off and every coloured bar everywhere on the screen or word of text has vertical lines on it even if the white parts don't??
(BTW FWIW I am in New York and couldn't take advantage of the .co.uk offer but was just wondering how they could give the unit away so cheap unless it was essentially the same as the 2002 units which are described on the XDA site)
Success! (I think)
Just checked my email on arriving home and my order has been confirmed by T-Mobile so it should be with me tomorrow. Still odd that they show it at £120 on one page and free on another, but I'm not complaining!
Re: Is this phone any different from the SX56?
@licensedtoquill - to me it sounds like you've dislodged the connections to the screen. Youcould try taking the thing apart and reseating it, but it's a delicate job and not for someone who's not used to dealing with miniature electronics. Might be work looking for a repair facility - PPC Techs have a good reputation.
As for why the phones are so cheap over here, the network operators will do anything to get you signed up to a contract, as that's where they make their money. It's easy to get a free top line phone if you chose the right contract. Especially one like this which locks you in for 18 months as opposed to the normal 12. They're banking on the fact that even with the 300 free voice minutes, you'll still ramp up the bill with SMS and GPRS over the life of the contract. That's why they put the unlimited half price rental "loyalty" bonus at the end to make sure you stick out the full term.
Mine is confirmed too - should be here before one tomorrow
The Guy on the phone (had to phone to confirm some details) said the deal was so good that they (the web sales team) were all snapping them up too , and that the deal was subject to stock , and that stock of the copilot kits would probably be exhausted by the end of today
No mention of a mistake at all
@zoidster: what time did you order yours? I needed one and did not have the time to order w/o co-pilot earlier in the day and this looked too good to be true. I got confirmation around 9:30PM UK and hope the stock is not finished yet.
It was about 4.30pm mate - mind you , in "sales speak" a few left probably means several thousand
If your order was confirmed & they charged you the £5.99 for next day delivery then I'd guess they had stock left
Thanks, I got confirmation and should be with me tommorrow.
Thanks for the link, saved me 50 quid.
Got mine !
yesterday , I managed to navigate to the deal via the homepage
tried again this morning and the same deal is now £199 !
Does this package come with a gps receiver as well??

Hello everyone
This is my first post, i usually browse these forums to pick knowledge but im in an hour of need please
I have the orange M5000, (universal or xda exec)
Everything works as it rings when you dial its number, button presses are acknowledged, even screen taps give you beeps!
but neither the screen lights up andneither does it show anything.
is there something i can do please? i must be pressing a button wrong or something!
tried resets etc.
Please could someone help
many thanks
"G"
when you take the battery out and then put it back in and press the power button does the screen show anything?
If not back to the store me thinks.
Anyone else?
JAmes
Hello,
the connector between the screen and mainboard sounds like it is either loose or frayed ( it is a collection of wires and not a ribbon.)
I would contact www.htceurope.com and arrange a repair as the unit should still be under warranty unless it's been noticebly dropped.
Richard
james, i tried the resets also taking the battery out, sadly the problem persisted after this too
richard thanks so much for putting that website forward as i didnt even know it existed
the orange shop i got it from i would never ever visit again, terrible service and nil knowledge.
i have gone through the process on htc's website and will send it for repair tomorrow
thanks so much again!
has anyone else sent anything to htc for warranty work before?
many thanks
"G"
someone just also informed me that the screen is not designed to be turned 360 degrees but only 180 degrees, maybe this is what did it? whatif i turned it around to close it instead ofturning it back the way it came.
oh well, i have printed a tick sheet so willdispatch it tomorrow
thanks so much again for your help.#
G
I recon you wouldnt have noticed you were doing bad if you turned it through the not turnable part.
hope the repair gets it sorted for you
JAmes
thanks james!
me too! i could always walk into another orange shop but theyre only going to probably send it to htc for repair anyway so why not go straight!
thanks all

If you plug the unit in to power, is the screen still dark? Did you do a hard reset? If not, do so. You don't have much to lose. If one presses the backlight button and power buttons in a certain sequence, the backlight slider goes to '0' and the screen will appear to be black. If you look at it under strong light you will see that you can make out the icons etc. on the screen. If this is the case, go to settings and backlight and move the sliders up. If you have hard reset the device then this is all moot.

Surprisingly enough it is easily done...I have a jasjar that doesn't stop if you try to rotate it further than 180. They have re-designed the hinge / twist bracket with more pronounced ridges on the XDA exec I had in bits to stop this. If in doubt, deny all knowledge, if you've been able to do that without noticing, it's a design flaw IMO.
HTCEurope are actually very good for repairs, you can log in and see the progress of your repair on their site, and compared to some of the other official service agents ( SBE / imate ) they are also reasonably priced if your units is not covered byt warranty eg if you smashed the screen.
Don't ever bother sending a phone back via orange unless it's accidental damage and you have orangecare - they just send it on to HTC so you're only delaying it. The only downside is you have to pay for the postage to send it to them. An upside of using HTC directly though is you can pay for a cosmetic refurb if needed at the same time.
Richard
You are welcome, but sorry you were not able to find a solution. Can you actually turn your screen through 360 degrees? There are mechanical stops to prevent this, but they can of course be broken by force. One turn would probably not damage the wire inside, as I have seen it. More than once however, and you have no doubt broken the connection. Since the screen still beeps, it sounds like the main connection to the lcd is gone. Even with the backlight for the lcd screen completely disconnected the lcd will still show charaters under strong light. Have you actually done a 'hard' reset? This is the one where you hold the two soft keys (with the '-' on them) at the same time you press the reset button on the back of the unit. If you see nothing after this, you definitely need to send it in for repair.
richard thanks will remember to always use htc directly in future too. hopefully they wont charge me for the work, but if they do its probably my own fault, just wish i knew how i broke it lol
chetccox, i understand now how the cable mustve broken inside. this is because i can easily turn the screen through no problem, even in the manual there is no mention of this, there is even NO ADVICE ON HOW TO OPEN OR CLOSE THE SCREEN!
thanks for your input, i tried the hard rest too, nthing on the screen again! oh well, very unfortunate, was really looking forward to this!
i think ill sell this on and get something like the xda3 again. i had a mini s before i gave that to my cousin for his birthday. i never got on with it, too slow for me, im not educated enough to change roms etc etc etc
thanks all

what does it mean when it says on-hold?
this is the status of my Xda Exec (SPV M5000 actually) what does that mean please? can anyone help
Many thanks
G
Well, here is what ON-HOLD means!
Is it worth arguing or shall i just pay it and cut my losses? Not once does it say this in the manual anywhere!
Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks again

This may be paid by credit/debit card at our website, www.htceurope.com, using your case number and password. Please let me know if you can’t find either of these.
Payment may also be made by cheque or postal order made payable to HTC Europe Co Ltd, and sent to:

While it's a shame they are not fixing it under warranty, the quote is reasonable IMO as you can't buy the cable for love nor money, and I've changed one, it's fiddly and took me at least an hour. £25 for the part and 1 hour's labour is fairy snuff, I'd pay it no question if it were me.

I dunno about your phone but my QTEK 9000 had a sticker on the screen when it was fresh out of the box. This sticker did state that you cannot turn it more than 180º. Maybe it's just QTEK that took the time to put this sticker.
My screen piece isn't right. Is it possible to remove it without damaging the screen?
Also, There is a piece that I cannot figure out where to stick. It was on the sheet with the screen, immediately below it. The part of the device that corresponds to this location does not have enough surface area to be covered by a piece this shape. It seems that the piece will cover part of the buttons (on hook/off hook) as well, if applied.
Thanks!
You have the same problem that I faced! I was sent a set for HERM100/HERM300 (Cingular, i-Mate, O2, Orange, Dopod 838, T-Mobile), and not for HERM200 (TyTN, Vodafone, Dopod 9000, Softbank). They are differ by buttons layout (see Wiki).
Unfortunately, ShieldZone service is awful and does not reply to my mails.
ooh. that's not good. I think i'm going to fight it w. my CC then. How long ago did you email them?
A week ago already. I can't call them because it is hard for me to understand English by phone.
Hi, has anyone removed their screen shield yet?, mine had a line in it, but I kept it on because I needed some type of screen protection, and didn't have another brand handy at the time, I'm concerned about screen damage upon removal cause this stuff sticks fairly well, and left behind residue, I had a full kit, and just peeled most of it off because it was trash, but I left the battery cover, and screen shields on.
Shieldzone is awful. I bought a screen protector back when the Cingular 8125 came out. It was hard to put on and it had small dots all over the screen which I found very annoying. So I call them up and they told me to send it back. I shipped it back via USPS First Class with delivery confirmation. According to USPS it got to the destination but Shieldzone claimed they never received it. They never response to my emails and when I call them up they hang up on me.
Well, now I can say they are not awful, probably just stupid...
Having still nothing back from them via e-mail, I just have received a new shield set from them! The funny thing is that, although it is marked "HTC TyTN" (just like the first one), it is the same cut for HERM100, not for HERM200 once again!
So, there is a good guy there who had read my complain and decided to send me a replacement, but there is no a person smart enough to check whether they make them all similar (=wrong) or not.
Also looks like most of their people are unable to read. They couldn't read my mail describing their fault, but also they couldn't read internal instructions. On a paper inside the envelope it was a printed instruction to send this order via UPS. The instruction was even painted over by a green marker. But the person who actually was sending it had sent it via USPS, just like the original order...
OK, now I have enough pieces to cut the full shield from. But I have no an intention neither to write them once again, nor to deal with them in the future. I don't like gambling.
To add some fairness...
The replacement order is dated the same day that I e-mailed them. That's fast reaction! If they were thinking before doing it would be great! I'd be satisfied by immediate appologies and a change on their web site (if they just can't make it for TyTN actually), but they prefer to waste their money and loose reputation instead...
I guess I got lucky. Mine said just HTC TyTN and it was correct for the Cingular 8525,
I will say it took me and my wife about an hour to figure out how to put it on though... 7 years of college went to waste it looks like
A lot of people do not like the screen, but I love it. I have a slightly jittery hand and the "stick" helps keep me from selcting the wrong thing.
Granted because I have the Cingular 8525 there are some places that are not covered (because the HTC TyTn has the video conference button and eye.) But all and all I feel much better protected because of it.
Good luck...
I (my 1.5 year old daughter) managed to crack the LCD display on my new TyTN(!!!). I tried transplanting in it an old HTC Wizard display that I had, which turns on as blank white and therefore doesn't help me... I have been looking on ebay and found a company from HK that sells new displays. They have generation 1 or 2 types. see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-LCD-Screen...hZ015QQcategoryZ41343QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
I assume this is probably the problem I have (??) I guess the display generations are different.
Does anybody have any insight into this? Has anybody replaced an LCD display in their TyTN?
I'll be happy to provide a detailed step-by-step on how to do the replacement if anybody is in the same #$%@y situation I am in...
I'd greatly appreciate any information... I need my phone back...
I deleted your duplicate post in the Upgrading forum btw.

If you figure it out please let me know, I would be extremely grateful. Taking it to a place called Carphone warhouse tomorrow hopefully they can repair it. Will let you know thanks.
Don't know if it will help you or not, but here it is the part number of HTC TyTN screen, I got it on the description sheet after service center fixed screen alignment issue on mine:

Description: TFT-LCD MODULE, TD028STEB1, NEW SUNPLUS, TOPPOLY, TYTN
It was an HTC TyTN with S/N HTC628.
Also try to google this.

OK, so I first tried to place a display from a dead HTC-Wizard in my TyTN - which does not work. It fits perfectly, but all I get is a white screen and somehow it is draining the battery in 1/2 a day. They must have changed something in the display. For now I am only using my phone via voice command to place and receive calls :-(
I ordered a new display from http://stores.ebay.com/hitechhk
They claim as I mentioned to have TyTN displays with generation 1 or 2 although the image says they are displays for O2 mini. I sent a query asking what generation would I need based on photos of my broken display (which looked different than both!). I got a reply that their tech was looking at the pictures to determine which display I need and then got a response that the item shipped - that's communicating across the globe for you... Anyway, my new display is on the way and hopefully it works. I have no idea what they shipped.
I looked at some of the links posted by mikechannon and pof above and these sites seem more B2B (no place to place an order).
Anyway, I'll let you know as soon as it arrives (it shipped 2 days ago) if I'm lucky or not. If so - it's a pretty easy solution. If not...
OK, I am very confused now...
I got my display yesterday from hightechhk - it is not compatible.
Quite frankly, it is identical to my old HTC wizard display and only produces a blank white screen on the TyTN.
Note that this is part number TD028STEB1 and despite the previous mentions that this is TyTN compatible - it is not in my case...
I am back to square one - trying to get an exchange / refund from hightechhk.
Otherwise, my only route will be repair by HTC America (if they take it...).

I just wonder if there is something else wrong and the replacement screen is fine - possibly digitizer. Have you tried a hard reset?
I just decided to start my contingency plan - repair by HTC.
This ordeal started by calling HTC America, who forwarded me to HTC UK.
I need apparently to send my phone to the UK for repair...
Anyway, to your question - I dare not try a hard reset yet until I am officially ready to send my phone for repair to HTC. The reason is that I am using the phone via voice command (the display is dead - so no dialing there...). If I hard reset - I can really only answer incoming calls...
Anyway - I'll give it a try before I ship it, although I doubt it will work.
I have been around many places in the UK...
and can only find two places which will repair it, both costing £150!!! ygeller
do you have the number for HTC in the UK thank you very much hope you get the screen fixed.
I got these numbers: +44 (0) 8458900079 HTC UK
+44 (0) 1202714530
After talking to someone on the first number I was told to call the repair center:
+44 1 908556464 repair center
The repair center hardly answers - you leave a message and they call you back.
I then went to http://support.htceurope.com and created my own repair request. I got a price estimate which was more like 100 GPB including shipping to the US and 5 days typical turnaround. The website generated the RMA process and claimed to have sent me an email with the return instructions - so far, I have not received the email... unbelievable...
Yes. The price sucks. Then again having paid so much for the phone and not being able to use it sucks more...
Yep that ties up with this site:
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html
Mike
For reference, I now finally see that the part number I am missing is:
60H00056-00M
the part I got from HK (fits the HTC Wizard) is 60H00037-00M
Hence the mismatch.
Searching the "37" part on google yeilds all sorts of results.
Searching for the "56" part yields nothing... to new? :-(
ygeller Thanks!
Thank you very much ygeller, you have saved me at least £50 and the turnaround is a lot shorter than the 4 weeks I was quoted somewhere else. The internet is a wonderful place most of the time seriously thanks again! Hope all goes well with yours once you get it back.
Problem
Hi!
I have similar problem.
While the charge of battery is over 95% touch screen response me, but later no, rest of device continues working perfectly.
Ygeller, what generation of lcd purchase you?
Ì'm sure that the 1st is not for my device (vodafone v1605 HERM200) but i'm not sure if 2nd will be correct for me.
And if somebody has passed him similar problem and has a solution estaria him very thanked for if me it explained it.
Excuse my bad english.
It was neither gen1 or gen2.
The display they sent me was simply incompatible. It was a Wizard screen - not TyTN.
I couldn't find anywhere on the web a replacement part for TyTN, so I sent it for repair by HTC.
Tytn LCD Module
Just read through thread - trying to pick up on LCD module suppliers.
It seems there is some confusion as to the type of LCD the HTC Tytn and its various "brother" PDA use. Here is what I found out after some extensive correspondence with a supplier in China:
There are a number of incompatible LCD modules each of which is fitted with its own video controller. The marking (usually) with a big sticker on the ribbon like connector states which type is used.
These are the descriptors to look for and order by:
Samsung - LTP280QV-E01
Toppoly - TD025STEB1
Hitachi - TX0704APAA1
The other codes mentioned in the thread are equivalent:
Hitachi - 60H00056-00m
etc...
In any case if anyone knows where to find the Hitachi I would be very happy!
I just got finished replacing the screen on my 8525. I got it from e-bay (gold electronics) had good service and got the exact screen for my phone. around 79 + shipping.
Which screen did you replace?
Info on Tytn LCD Types
Hope this sorts the "White Screen" business out...
These screens differ in the controller they need.
HTC has diversified its use of LCD modules probably to cut prices... but it is a pain to fix!

No link available - unfortunately what I need
Hi there!
First of all, thank you all guys for this wonderful site-system, not only the forum! I've been reading this forum/xda-wiki, etc... for months, thought I never posted cuz I always found the answers to my questions by just searching. Well, this is my issue I didn't find an answer to:
I live in Austria, and because the Hermes is sold here only as the T-Mobile Vario II, which is expensive here, I decided to buy the Hermes over ebay (after learning here that all the HERMES phones all almost the same). I bought the SPV M3100 from Switzerland for only 180€, with S&H + turnover tax (unfortunately I ignored that our neighbors are not in the EU) it came to 230€, still a good catch (pouch, 1GB card and some software included).
Well but I think the customs opened the phone for some reason I don't know; because there are opening marks on the top of the phone (unprofessional) and my display goes white when I press the red button (or the area around, even the right bottom of the display), you can see that on the attached video file. Maybe they tried to check the inside of the phone, and screwed it up. I can't do anything, cuz I through away the shipping package, and they don't accept claims without this package , whatever. Sometimes the LCD is white for about 0.2 seconds sometimes it stays white and I have to push the off-button shortly, and than turn it on again (no soft reset, you know, that "stand-by" thing).
PLUS: The 2 halfs of the phone are moving vertically with 1-2mm if you pull slightly on them (imaging holding a burger in front of you and you pull the upper bun off the lower bun, that's how you could compare my phone, but only for 1-2 mm). The seller swore that he had never had that problem, and he never opened it. He also told me, that I can send the thing back to him, if I want (but come on, I already put myself into the whol unlocking, SuperCID, ROM flashing things etc..., and I hoped that some day I could fix that thing, maybe it's a loose connection).
Could it be, that somebody forgot to put back a screw? Now, what about the display issue? Did anybody ever have or see that problem?
Thanks a lot in advance!!!
greets, Sebi.
PS: Unfortunately I can't attach a .3GP file, so I zipped it.
Hello, I will start by saying despite my aged condition i have only recently (in the last week) been seduced to the ownership of any sort of mobile phone. I have one that works fine. But in my investigations a friend offered and gave me a XDA exec (O2) mainly to stop me moaning about the silly way text messages are entered with out a Qwerty keyboard. Unfortunately the phone seem to be dead. Or at least in a coma (as it has some life signs).
The symptoms are, White screen, not much else, odd times my eight year old got the keyboard lights on and thats about it, plain white screen. I have investigated the net for answers and tried. Reset (power, back light and reset), taking out battery and replacing, taking out the battery over night, i investigated 02's web site which i found of very little help, the user manual there etc presupposes some sort of information on the screen ! I seized on the idea that a Rom Upgrade might help but all links to that i have found are dead.
I installed Activcync to my PC and the phone syncs up allowing me to see that there is indeed things on it the windows files etc. Which gave me hope that it isn't totally dead.
So any suggestions? can i do anything with this impressive looking paperweight?
Hi,
From your description I would say you have a hardware fault regarding your screen.
Either the cable is broken, not correctly connected or the LCD itself has a defect.
What let's me conclude that is:
- you say you will get a white screen: this means the backlight is working
- you say ActiveSync will recognize the phone and you can browse its contents: this means that the device is working (except for the screen) and that it is not like stuck in the bootloader, or so
- you say your daughter managed to get the keyboard lights on: this means they are working... this, by the way, only happens when the device is in the dark and thats probably why you did not manage to do it yourself
From now, your options are:
- sell the device as broken and get up to 100 Euro on eBay for it
- buy a working Universal at eBay, at prices starting at 140 Euro (better condition will cost more)
or
- get the PDF that explains how to disassemble the device
- check if all cables are properly connected
- check if there is something you can (and know howto) repair
and eventualy
- buy a new display, which will cost 100 Euro or more
So to tell the truth, the easiest option is to actually sell the phone as broken and get a second hand one, which is not broken...
Or get a second hand one (not broken) and keep yours for spare parts.
Cheers,
vma
ah thank you for the step by step reasoning there, i have to agree...
I don't want to sell it, it was given to me and if i cant get it going i'd rather pass it on in the same way.
I will look for the pdf and see if i can confidently have a look inside... many thanks.
A small investigation inside reveals no obviously loose cabled etc.. Oh well!
again many thanks.
I've passed it on to someone who is more electronically knowledgeable than me, i hope he can get it going and use it...
