http://www.kasuei.com/Hitchhiker/

thanks for the info.
wolfgang

I tried it on my Exec but despite the surrounding WiFi hotspots being visible to the built in client, the Hitchhiker process sees none....
Not too impressed.

I've tried it on my MDA Pro
It gives the error
This application (Hitchhiker.exe) requires a newer version of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.

You have to install .NET Compact Framework 2.0 in order to be able to use it...

On my device it works, not so great but it works...
I don’t like that it doesn’t initiate WI-FI connection on its own, you have to start it manually...

I've just seen that skearon posted a the same thing a moment b4 me...

Sorry, I'm at work and didn't bother reading the page.

Well, I insalled FW2 and while the program runs fine, it can ony see one of six [strong] WiFi points local to me....

That compact framwork is MASSIVE!
I don't have that sort of free space on my phone!

If you guys are still looking for a WiFi finder application, WiFiFoFum works fine on my XDA EXEC. Here is a link:

That still requires the compact framework thing which is massive.
How come u need this on the universal, but things like this worked fine on the blue angel etc running 2003?

I installed both Net Framework and WiFiFoFum to my SD card. A little slow to open but once opened. It runs fast. Detects WiFi access points in less than 4 seconds on my EXEC.
What I did was install the NetFramework to the SD card first then soft reset the device. I then installed WiFiFoFum to the SD Card.

Hmmm, I actually never thought about installing to my SD card. I have more than enough space on the 1gb unit, but what is speed like? Is the SD memory access comparable to the onboard memory at all?
WiFiFoFum works well on my Exec and picks up hotspots Hitchhiker cannot.

I tried Magneto on my Himalaya, but I had lot of problems(see 'Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking'). Is it there same problems also for Typhoon? Meaned the biggest problems such as unability to connect via ActiveSync, unability to accept many applications from 2003SE,etc. Someony who has it already tried, please write here your opinions and experiences. Thanx.
On Typhoon, Activesync works perfectly, you can't unlock it, neither for applications, nor to use another sim card, you can't use USSD... Don't load it for the now and wait for the final version.

+1 you are right.. it is so early for WM2005. if you load microsoft can test WM 2005 on your phone and you will be cavy...
Will there ever be a stable WM5 for the typhoon?

It can be application unlocked very easily with a simple registry change.
I dont see the problems eveyone is having with the typhoon with wm 5, its very stable I dont get any crashes or lockups any more. Tom tom 5 even works relaibly. The only downfall is the camera, which im sure there will be a fix.
?
I am still interesting about the applications. WM5 needs applications designed especially for this OS or accepts also the apps, which are running also on WM2003(se)? My Himalaya, while running on Magneto, wants not accept lot of the software that I am using with WM2003se normally...
I've been running WM5 on Typhoon for 1 week.
It's awesome. (totally happy, no issues with anything)
The WM5 GUI look & feel is much better for everythying
It seems faster
I really enjoy having photo/ring-tone based contacts built in.
radio seems to aquire quicker
Active Sync over GPRS and IMAP mail is MUCH faster!
I also recommend Pocket Controller Professional. You can control any pocket pc or smartphone from your computer! (and sync files, etc etc) It comes with “skins” so it looks like your whole phone is up on the screen. (very nice to "type" in stuff now and then too) Works great on the Typhoon with WM5 so far.
The Tornado should be interesting in Oct. (similar size + WiFi + EDGE)
s4czech or anyone else, could you please indicate me a link where to find a complete explanation on how to upgrade to WM5?
I already downloaded the upgrade, but as I donno the procedure all I get is error' messages that this or that is missing... Thanks!

I am using WM 5 on my C500 (Typhoon). It runs very well, stable and fast. I have installed the following Software (tested and running). Except Power Task, they are all WM2K3 Apps
- CityTime Alarms
- Developerone Power Tasks (WM5 Version)
- Fizz Traveller 2
- Fizz Monitor
- TCPMP
- WordPad
- Blackjack
- Facade from SBSH (new)
- Opera for Mobile (new)
- Papyrus from SBSH (new)
- GPRS Traffic Counter (new)
And that's basically all I need
Cheers

Opera for O2 XDA Exec

I downloaded "Opera 8.00u1" on my O2 XDA Exec, and it didn't work. Windows extending out of screen display area, tried to play around but no success.
I wonder if this version works for Windows Mobile 2005 at all ?
Is opera availablef ro WM2005 at all?

yes, if you set the fonts to be smooth and small. Outstanding. A little bit of pain for your eyes, though.
Probably the rendering is more suitable for a portrait smartphone screen, but I think it will change when the definitive program will be released.

I tried it a couple of months ago. Ignore that it only works on smartphones, worked fine on my XDAII (Mobile 2005). I think i just extracted the cabs out and installed it manually.
Gonna try it again on EXEC hopefully it will make browsing easier.

Hmm, it complains that it requires a newer version of the .NET framework to work on my Exec.

just dling now from microsoft
works a treat! definately a must for those working in connectivity, networking etc and also those into warchalking (with a gps)
Yup, great bit of software. Can anyone recommend an indoor GPS device for use with WiFiFoFum when War-walking?
Cheers.
Massive install
Bloody hell!
The CAB file for WiFiFoFum is just a few hundred KB, but the installer for the .NET Compact Framework is 5MB!
You've got to *really* want this software to suffer that kinda hit to your storage, IMHO.
Is there any other free warwalking software that works well for WM5? I can store locations in TomTom without WiFiFoFum's radar display...
Thanks in advance
This version was great. Thanks

Hi SiliconS,
I stored NetFramework and WiFiFoFum in my SD Card. It runs great, a little slow to start up but saves you the internal memory.
Plus from what I read, most new free warwalking software needs NetFramework 2. So there is no escaping it. Sorry.
If you want to try HitchHiker: http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/ feel free, but the last time I tried it on my EXEC, it did not work.

Thanks for the reply, Christian.
Maybe I'll try WiFiFoFum if it installs OK to the SD card. I was just shocked at how much MS bloat was necessary to get it working. Even installing the .NET 'Compact' Framework via my PC required a 24MB download and a 59MB installed size. Seems crazy to me, but I guess it's necessary for something.
Just a pity that WiFiFoFum requires the complete .NET framework and can't just cherry-pick certain libraries. I'm not a coder so I don't understand the reasons, but I'm sure the developers don't choose this situation happily.
but where is the advantage compared to the version before, that makes it worth installing the huge framework-stuff...?
the 0.3.3-version works quiet good on my mda pro

So, you mean to say that the previous version worked well with the UNIVERSAL, so we don't need to install NetFramework 2? Does the old version of WiFiFoFum have Windows Mobile 5 support?

Previous version works on Universal, but you can't see all the screen in landscape mode. Since I use it once-in-a-blue-moon, I'm not worried by switching to portrait mode. But the loss of 5MB of main storage makes the latest version with .NET v.2 a non-starter!

MS Office 2007 CAB - only for WM6

Hi, someone here wrote that it is impossible to create office 2007 cab file. I tried it and here is a result... Download the cab file and install it, then reset the device. It works only on WM6 for now, but I'll try to make it for WM5 too.
Tested on Wizard WM6 (5.2.318 Build 15342.0.0.0).
Download link: http://rapidshare.com/files/35775212/jimm98y_office2007.CAB.html
Here is new version:
+ executables are compressed
+ fixed uninstall bug with deleting icons
- still doesn't work on WM5
Download link: http://rapidshare.com/files/35900969/jimm98y_office2007.CAB.html
Download mirror: http://sharegadget.com/563261821 - working (6.5.2008)
nice, i will try..let see if realy works and dont dupe the office
works without any problem (Most Beautiful WM6) at Wizard. Thanks
diky moc
works here too with core 2.0n
sorry for sounding so ignorant but what exactly is this.... mobile office 2007??
afaik it is an update to the three mobile office applications to support the new office 2007 fileformat.
but does it add any other features?
yes, there is a new application One Note Mobile...

Is there anything in the Cab that is making it an only Wizard cab?

I agree, I just went through the cab, good work, doesn't appear to have anything device specific, Thanks.
What program did you use for building the cab, just curious.
I used cabwiz.exe for ppc and the *.inf file, because I think that it's the best way of making cabs...

WM5
Top stuff, any news on a WM5 version
worked on my Black 3, Thanks, but it takes about 5-6MBs off the device memory.. that's just too much
Great stuff!
Works on a SDK-image too, but only on the English ones. I tried it on a Dutch SDK, but that won't work.
Installation worked flawless on my German WM6 ROM with my Herald. No Problems opening a .docx file, but Excel won't start at all.

How did it only take 5 - 6 MB of Storage Memory. Mine dropped from 20.11mb down to 6.91mb. . . WAAAYYY too much for me. Too bad, too. . . it was working flawlessly . . . and I really wanted the OneNote app, too.
Disregard that. . . DOH!! After I deleted the .cab file, I gained back almost 7MB of Storage Space. . . a little more "liveable" now.

Took about 6mb of space on my phone.
All 4 apps ran fine.
I could not remove it using the remove programs control panel app.

RapidSearch - open beta testing started ;)

Did you ever use Google Desktop or vista search on your PC and would like to have on your portable device? Well, here you are! The RapidSearch application is made as an instant file access module for the Smartphone / Pocket PC. Have a try! Requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0, compatible with: PPC 2003 SE or higher, WM Smartphone 5.0 or higher. Users with systems older than Windows Mobile 6 will probably need to install .NET CF on their devices. And here's the link: http://p800.go.pl/RapidSearchSPInstall.cab
Great idea! Indexing in progress...
Awesome idea! I'll try it out right now!
For some reason the link wouldn't work earlier. Does now and I'm downloading it to test...
no interest ?
It's great! However, neither of the buttons when it is performing a search appear to do anything...
