Did you ever use Google Desktop or vista search on your PC and would like to have on your portable device? Well, here you are! The RapidSearch application is made as an instant file access module for the Smartphone / Pocket PC. Have a try! Requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0, compatible with: PPC 2003 SE or higher, WM Smartphone 5.0 or higher. Users with systems older than Windows Mobile 6 will probably need to install .NET CF on their devices. And here's the link: http://p800.go.pl/RapidSearchSPInstall.cab
Great idea! Indexing in progress...
Awesome idea! I'll try it out right now!
For some reason the link wouldn't work earlier. Does now and I'm downloading it to test...
no interest ?
It's great! However, neither of the buttons when it is performing a search appear to do anything...

Works OK.
As it's for smartphone though there are no scroll bars. Need to navigate with the d-pad or arrow keys.
This looks good, but I can't get it to run on my JasJar. I didn't apply the hires hack, I wonder if that does something else to it as well. It installs fine, but when I try to run, it doesn't load.
You need to do a soft reset after installing or it won't work.
Is this some kind of beta or a trial version?
I just created a cab file from the original files, but still I'm not able to run it, I installed it on wm2003se device, plz any one take a look at it and force it to run if it's possible.
Universal Doc, I think it's a trial version. That's what I downloaded from the Opera site anyway.
I can't get it to to run on my device though. It seems to install -- I soft reset as instructed above, but when I click it to run, it doesn't run, the cursor circle pops up and runs for a brief moment, but then nothing else happens.
I tried the CAB file posted above, but it won't install on my device. Gets about 80% done, then a message pops up that says unable to install on the device.
No luck for me yet - hopefully Opera will release their WM5 version soon. I really like miss TrueVGA browsing.
it's a smartphone application not a pocketpc application
2003SE cant run smartphone applications only 2005 can do that
It does not work for me yet, such a shame (the devices are brothers of each other but don't have the same blood) but mine is a wm2005 machine now.
I get:
- Opera load failure
- Unable to load opera.dll
Can anybody post the opera.dll, maybe someone or meself can compare de dll's and can get this to work on his BlueAngel brother.

Right, and the JasJar I'm trying on is a WM5 machine. Isn't that the forum we are in?
I downloaded Opera 8 for Smartphones from Opera website, installed on my Jasjar, soft reset and I am able to run it. I installed the application to my main memory and not to the storage card.
However it is not a perfect run on the Jasjar, for example when I open the Hotmail website it takes me to the mobile hotmail website and not the full hotmail website. Furthermore it just takes me to the log-in page and cannot go further because when I enter the username in the prescribed box every press of the keys enters 2 characters simultaneously. For example when I enter "s" it would enter "ss" and so on.
I believe we will have to wait till Opera releases the version for Windows Mobile 5 for Pocket PC.

I have not tried this on the Wizard (currently waiting for one) but I have used SOTI Pocket Controller extensively on many PocketPCs over the years. I find it much better than the MS tool. Not free but not expensive.
www.soti.net
(I have no connection with SOTI)
I use the attached tool for quite a while now, on wm2003, 2003se and wm5 devices, it works great.
I got it somewhere overhere i believe, so the credits go someone else..
copy the 2577 folder to the root of your storage card,
then eject, and insert the card, the first time the device will
ask if you want to run autorun, and you do, so, accept it.
from now on every time you insert your storage card, it will make a
screenshot in that folder 2577, no matter what screen you are in or app.
you are running (for as far as i know then)
good luck with it !
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, in the end I manage to grab a copy of Pocket-Controller Professional
The Remote Desktop Client in Crossbow is perfect: just the same as the desktop edition. The possibilty to run in true full screen, 16-bit colors, playing sounds through the Universal's speakers, has an exchangable clipboard, fast rendering, etc. etc.
The one (Terminal Services) in Windows Mobile 5.0 is not much compared to that new one.
Is there a possibility to run the Crossbow version in WM5, or is there a third party alternative, as good as the new RDP Mobile?
Thanks.
Hi,
No one knows?

I installed this on my PPC6700 WM5, and works great, except I can't use the keyboard . Any body else experience this?
Thanks, that's great!! The RDP works perfect as it should in Crossbow on a WM5 device.
Did you extract the RDP from a Crossbow ROM? If so, would it be possible to extract the new Internet Explorer Mobile as well?
Thanks again!!

Nope, there aren't any REAL alternatives - see my related article at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 .
BTW, unrtunatey, the WM6 RDP client can't transfer files, unlike some of the H/PC .NET implementations - and, of course, the desktop Windows one
It is working on Smartphone WM5
I just installed this on my wm5 smartphone and it is working just fine
you need SPHelper to emulate mouse pointer
THANKS

Keyboard disabled for me too, WM5 on an XDA-Exec. Bit of shame really...would be nice if someone had found a fix already...
A solution that work is to use the Windows virtual keyboard (somewhere in accessories). It's like the PPC keyboard, but on the remote computer. It works... Until a better fix...
Regards
Works perfect with Blueangel WM5 AKU 3.5
works in 256 color and in 16 bit color
sound works, hardware and software keyboards work
Any update on the keyboard issue
I got really excited about this until I also found the non-working keyboard issue (on an HTC Tytn/Hermes) - any likelihood that this will be fixed and any timescale?
Thanks

Install the app in the RAM instead of the memorycard and you're done.
WM6 Mobile & Remote Desktop Windows Vista
I shot a video (windows Vista on my Windows Mobile) - It works a charm
Have a look at the video if you feel you can spare 10 minutes
p.s:: I was experimenting with iMovie HD on my Macbook and got this video made, lemme know if I need to improve
Link for the video :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d589LnIGW9o
Sorry for the quality : Was using my windows Mobile's Camera and iSight!!
Fullscreen
Hi.
I manage to got it work on my Loox n560, keyboar also work when installed it in main memory, but when I switch to full screen mode then keyboard isn't availible anymore and also can't switch back to normal mode from full screen. How do you switch back to normal mode?
Either soft key for me gets out of full screen, on universal
The program works fine on my SPV M3100 as an RDP client except even when the 'Save Password' box is checked, it doesn't actually save the password !
Do I need to install something else to get this working ?
thx dude, works fine for me with windows mobile 6 on eten x500
RDP does not work for me
Hi all,
I installed the RDP on my xda orbit WM6. When I try to connect my Laptop (XP Prof. SP2) reacts like desdcribed in other forums (changing to the log-in screen). But on my xda I can't see the remote desktop. Just under a second I can see a picture (looks like a message with a button) but then the display goes black and after some seconds an error message comes that the connection can't be established. Does anyone have an idea what I do wrong?
Just installed this new rdp. It works like a charm.
Except I want to use the Function keys I've got on my keypad. So that when I press F12 in Excell that it opens "save as" or F5 to use "go to".
Grtz
Is there a Countdown Timer application that doesn't use the .NET COmpact Framework?
.NET slows down my desktop, I don't even want to know what it will do to my 8125.
I'm looking for a Countdown app in which I can put in a specific date and it will tell me how many days, hours, minutes seconds I have. A Countdown, pretty much.

Try this out for size!!! Just take off the .zip and then run!
Nice program, but too bad it needs .NET
Well, .NET is not "slowing down" your computer! .NET is part of your OS since Windows XP, so, without .NET you wouldn't even have a functioning OS. Even Windows Mobile has the NET COMAPCT FRAMEWORK build in since version 5, so, there is no way around it!
You might wanna try out this one - haven't tried it myself, so, I am not sure if it will work properly: http://www.pocketone-soft.com/stopwatch/2003sevga.php
Yeah, maybe your right, but when I run the application, it asks for a newer version of .NET
.NET is not a native part of Windows XP SP2, it is a separate component.
Any software that requires another piece of software to be installed is called bloatware in my book.
The application you posted is a stopwatch, not a countdown timer

Well, looks to me like the programmer of that software did not use the standard COMPACT FRAMEWORK but the latest (either 2.x or a higher BETA) when he compiled the program! Howeever, .NET will not slow you downit is in fact even increasing the speed of a higher OS, such as XP with latest updates and VISTA.
I had to write an article for it in a local pc magazine - I published it later in a programmer forum - you still can read it here: http://www.codingmonkeys.com/index.php?topic=1014.0
You will have to live with the fact that programmers will start more and more with developing .NET application - there is no way around it!
If you really want to find a 'non' .NET application look for older software (PPC 2003) which is out already for a few years. If it is only a countdown timer you're looking for it can't be too hard to find!
Sorry but I am newbie around here,
I have tried to run some programs a recently downloaded on my HERMES but when I try to run those programs, they indicate that my Microsoft net version so older that I need a newer one.
I have WM5 on my device
A) Where can I get a newer version? Is it free?
B) Can I keep my WM5 version but updating my Microsoft net version?
C) What is the purpose of this application?
I think you are talking about the microsoft dotnet framework(called compact framework on WM).
If so, you can download and install it free from microsoft. Do a google search for 'Compact Framework 2.0 Redestributable' and follow the microsoft link to download it on your pc(on which you do active sync). After download run the install on your pc. Next time when you active sync the compact framework will be updated to your pda.
If you are still could not find the download... go to one of the software I published(check my signature) and in the first post of any of my software I have a link to 'Compact Framework' download.
HTH
Edit: forgot your questions B and C
B: It does not affect your WM version(Yes to your question)
C: It makes your PDA run the applications built with .net technology. Most of the 'new applications' built now a days are .net. So no harm in updating to compact framework.
Nice !!!!!
I did it as you said and it's ok!!!!!!
Thanks..
i dont think most new apps are in .net as it still got some performance issues on pda's imho

Yes I do agree with you Rudegar.
But I do not treat that as an issue, since the dotnet architecture built such a way that the 'Things gets initialized as they are accessed' and the the 'Objects gets distroyed based on framework's assessment as to when to dispose things'. I think because of these behavior sometimes we see it as 'peforming bad'.
But one thing is sure that the dotnet did(or WILL) not replace the older native way of doing things(It's still long way to achieve it). Even a simple today pluggin is impossible with pure dotnet.
