I have not tried this on the Wizard (currently waiting for one) but I have used SOTI Pocket Controller extensively on many PocketPCs over the years. I find it much better than the MS tool. Not free but not expensive.
www.soti.net
(I have no connection with SOTI)

I use the attached tool for quite a while now, on wm2003, 2003se and wm5 devices, it works great.
I got it somewhere overhere i believe, so the credits go someone else..
copy the 2577 folder to the root of your storage card,
then eject, and insert the card, the first time the device will
ask if you want to run autorun, and you do, so, accept it.
from now on every time you insert your storage card, it will make a
screenshot in that folder 2577, no matter what screen you are in or app.
you are running (for as far as i know then)
good luck with it !

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, in the end I manage to grab a copy of Pocket-Controller Professional

O2 XDA - wireless 'linkup' experiment! Help?

Hi,
I was just wondering if its possible to 'link' the XDA Exec with multiple Laptops so that the laptops all show the XDA's display? Lets assume all Laptops have wi-fi, bluetooth and run Windows XP.
Purposes may be to share a PP presentation, show a software demo etc. (I need to give a tutorial and demo in a room with no projector ).
I was curious if anyone has had any experiance with this? Any advice regarding the best setup (or software) would be great. Cheers.
Nobody any ideas whatsoever?
You could install windows media encoder on one of the laptops, and a remote control app. Then run the remote control app so you can see your phone's screen. Once that's working you can run windows media encoder in screen caputre mode, all the other laptops will be able to connect it it then.

You can play with Microsoft's "ActiveSync Remote Display". The tool allows you to work with your PPC remotely from your laptop/PC using ActiveSync connection. But you will need to install ActiveSync and this tool to every laptop
If it is a matter of presentation, why don't you copy your presentation to local server's shared folder and ask people to open the file from this folder and listen to your instructions, like Going to next slide... At least there won't be any hassle with intervention to participants' laptops and personal space ))
ps: if you do possess a PC you can run something like MS Netmeeting and establish AS connection with your PDA through AS Remote Display at your PC. Share AS Remote Display application and ask people to connect to your PC's NetMeeting or any other remote conference software
Let us know on your results
Cheers

Thats my last resort - I hate doing presentations like this especially when we have the technology to do something 'fancy'
I will give some feedback to let you know how I managed it (I will succeed)!
Cheers for the ideas!

I just had a look at AS Remote Display and it seemed this would do the trick - However, it does not work with Windows Mobile 5.0.
Does anyone know of a release of AS Remote Display for Windows Mobile 5? I had a look around but there does not seem to be much on offer which is compliant with 5.0.
Right, another problem.
I just installed an app called : Laplink Controller thinking as it offered the functionality I was looking for.
After a supposidly successful install I tried to run it - no joy. It reccommended I uninstall and re-install the software, so I did.
When re-installing I got a message saying:
Cannot load resouce library:
\Windows\MWRes???412L.dll
It now comes up everytime I do a soft reset. Anybody seen this error?

must haves

whats changes from standard and what app do you consider vital on ur device
thank you
sorry im new to this and searching and reading as much as poss.any help or tips wlecome
thank you
i think a lot would agree with me when i say the ultimate must have app is Spb Pocket Plus 3.0
I would add Resco explorer with reg.& ftp plugin, Sprite back-up, PHM mechanic, PHM powertoys & VGS mail (runs imap on your magician, found on this forum). Running airscanner firewall & Trend micro mobile security as well. Testing magic button for really closing apps. I belief spb leaks too much memory. That's personal ofcourse.

Here's the list of my must have's and how to's. To start with, installing the Big Storage ROM will make your device way faster, but ONLY IF you install most of the programs in Storage. This way, your free RAM will be 13Mb Prog/9Mb Storage most of the time!
The list of essential programs I don't do without:
1) SBSH Pocket Breeze: gives a lot of information on the Today screen and is not performance hungry. Very very stable. I installed in Storage.
2) Pocket Max PhoneAlarm: Today plug-in that allows you set profiles and assign MP3 tones to SMS as well.
3) Sprite Backup: Simply the best backup tool that also comes with Sprite Space Detective and a Today Plug-in for battery and memory monitoring. Using this plug-in I saved myself from installing SPB Pocket Plus (I don't want to run programs from a today plug-in, most of them are accessible from the Start menu anyway).
4) TKCreator: a theme editor that allows me to modify themes on the PPC and also select themes stored anywhere on the device without modifying the registry. FREE.
5) PSShutXP: a program that lets you soft-reset the PPC without having to fiddle with the stylus. FREE.
6) TCPMP (Beta Player): for those weird formats that WMP10 does not recognise
7) MemMaid: Mostly useful to delete Internet Cache and Mail attachment. You wouldn't need the Bad Installation clean ups if you stick to only the software you use and the only software that works. When I want to fiddle with some new software I just take a backup before I start and restore if I need to.
8) Microsoft Voice Command: ideal in the car, where I just say "Play ..." or "Call ..." at the press of a button.
9) Modified MS BT stack: at least this stack works properly with my wife's Nokia 6230. A2DP is also welcome with this stack.
10) MobiPocket Reader: a very cool RSS/News reader that I snychronise every morning, thus making my favorite daily readings available off-line any time of the day. (I'm subsribed (FREE) to CNN, BBC News, BBC Tech, The Register, Pocket PC Thoughts, MS Windows Mobile Team Blog, The Times of Malta and Soccer Net.)
Finally, with regards to closing apps as opposed to minimising them (one of the most popular features of SPB Pocket Plus), I found that with plenty of RAM available (after installing all progs to Storage), leaving the apps runnning in the background makes the Magician MUCH MORE responsive.
Since I installed the above setup I never ever had to reset the device. It's the best I ever had. Almost flawless.

I have only two apps running. Spb Pocket Plus and tAgenda. Between the two, I have all the information I need. I prefer to keep my memory useage low, so that when I open those two or three applications, they have lots of memory.
kta: I've searched, but can only find onfo on the Bluesoleil BT stack - not a modified MS stack. Can you please direct us to info on how to do this upgrade.

Pocket Mobile PC PTvnc

z2 Remote2PC

What I need..
- Best connection with bandwith issues
- Easy setup and management with IP issues ( dynamic IP etc)
- Best Visual view of Desktop PC on PPC
- Best Desktop PC command control, ie do all thinks I want on DeskPC
- Easy management thru routers or firewalls etc...
- I know nothing on this stuff so easy pease for me...
Cost not an issue, performance and freedom of control of Desktop PC is ??? Can any one comment. Which is the ROLLS ROYCE of Remote access from PPC to Destop PC or Laptops via internet ( not short distance bluetooth or WiFi.,,,,Internet long distance)

No idea what you're talking about there, I'm using it right now to hit my desktop to reply to your post, from my WM5 HTC Universal...
*Edit - added in-use screen shot, resized way down - actual image quality is fantastic.
i used logmein on my PDA2K and now my T-Mobile MDA works great on both 2003SE and WM5.0
i just wish i had a bigger screen......
Did you use it thru PIE on WM5, cause I used thru Net Front 3.3...
It asks you to download some cab when you first use it, I did this, restarted and then it asked me to download again, again etc...
So using PIE ( pocket internet explorer ) does it work thru that ???
VNC...
I'm using RealVNC to start a VNC service on the desktop... You can download a free VNC server software from here:
http://www.realvnc.com/
As for the client, I'm using one from Mochasoft:
http://www.mochasoft.dk/vncce.htm
Low bandwidth requirement and most importantly speedy...

yes, must use PIE
Using TightVNC servic on the desktop (supports scaling) and .Net VNCviewer on the Exec. Good enough, fast enough, and free.
THE WINNER IS, HANDS DOWN...
z2 Remote2PC
Best Control, speed and visual controls, encryption, etc
For ease of use and "free is good" factor:
Logmein.com
- note:
When using logmein.com, PIE must be not be hacked. If changed from original version, it will not work (this was a month ago). Remote Desktop will connect but nothing will show up.
- tried with opera and also netfront, both didn't work for me.
opera would not even connect, and netfront will connect but won't show anything.
I concur with Net Front 3.3..
But z2 Remote PC, even after the Fuss of setting up an IP address at no-ip.com its all worth it.
I use PTvncWM5 to controll my home media pc.
It use verry low bandwidh on gprs
and looks great on Wifi
What do these offer beyond Terminal Services client? OK, TS logs you on in parallel on the server machine, but other than that? Seems pretty good on bandwidth and the age-old rule of "the less s/w you install, the less you'll screw up" applies
I got more toys and functions to play with via 2z remote2pc. Thats whyI chose this software.

App for Remote Access from PC ?

Please help !
I remember that somebody described a software here which can be used to access the mobile device via pc. You get a window on your pc with your device's view and you can control your phone via pc the same way as you could do it directly on the mobile device.
But I simply can't find this software Does anybody remember the name or have a link for me !
TIA!!
My Mobiler @ http://www.mtux.com/
Pocket Controller pro for me.
MyMobiler (freeware)
Just played with MyMobiler and Pocket Controller pro. Both very cool apps. Is there a app that will allow you to do this without being connected to the computer, kind of like log me in, dont/cant install to cpu, so something that is web based (java)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/wce/downloads/ppctoys.mspx
Remote Display Control for Pocket PC. Worked flawlessly on WM5, haven't tested it on WM6.

VNC ?
yes, but i'm talkin about a server on the ppc that i can access on the mac. Tried all of them, only the PocketVNC works... But I can only find the trial that closes after a minute. On the site, can't find a link to buy it! Can't seem to find a working version (no time limit) too.
Have a look at R-HUB remote support servers for remotely accessing your Mobile device from PC and vice versa. It is easy to use and works on all platforms viz Windows, MAC, Android, iOS etc.

Extend desktop to PPC

Is there a free bit of software that will allow me to use the ppc as an extended desktop.
I have played with side window, but would rather not pay for it as i don't think I will use it enough lol
RDC is another option
Would that extend the desktop (use the ppc as a monitor)?
yes..its a short form for REMOTE DESKTOP SHARING..just as u do in wiindows..btw which device do u have and which OS ?
I am on windows XP with an htc touch running wm6
