The Crossbow RDP in Windows Mobile 5.0 - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

The Remote Desktop Client in Crossbow is perfect: just the same as the desktop edition. The possibilty to run in true full screen, 16-bit colors, playing sounds through the Universal's speakers, has an exchangable clipboard, fast rendering, etc. etc.
The one (Terminal Services) in Windows Mobile 5.0 is not much compared to that new one.
Is there a possibility to run the Crossbow version in WM5, or is there a third party alternative, as good as the new RDP Mobile?
Thanks.

Hi,
No one knows?

z2 remote2pc is the best i think... colored.. you can download files from pc..

I installed this on my PPC6700 WM5, and works great, except I can't use the keyboard . Any body else experience this?

Thanks, that's great!! The RDP works perfect as it should in Crossbow on a WM5 device.
Did you extract the RDP from a Crossbow ROM? If so, would it be possible to extract the new Internet Explorer Mobile as well?
Thanks again!!

Nope, there aren't any REAL alternatives - see my related article at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288506 .
BTW, unrtunatey, the WM6 RDP client can't transfer files, unlike some of the H/PC .NET implementations - and, of course, the desktop Windows one

It is working on Smartphone WM5
I just installed this on my wm5 smartphone and it is working just fine
you need SPHelper to emulate mouse pointer
THANKS

Keyboard disabled for me too, WM5 on an XDA-Exec. Bit of shame really...would be nice if someone had found a fix already...

A solution that work is to use the Windows virtual keyboard (somewhere in accessories). It's like the PPC keyboard, but on the remote computer. It works... Until a better fix...
Regards

Works perfect with Blueangel WM5 AKU 3.5
works in 256 color and in 16 bit color
sound works, hardware and software keyboards work

Any update on the keyboard issue
I got really excited about this until I also found the non-working keyboard issue (on an HTC Tytn/Hermes) - any likelihood that this will be fixed and any timescale?
Thanks

Install the app in the RAM instead of the memorycard and you're done.

WM6 Mobile & Remote Desktop Windows Vista
I shot a video (windows Vista on my Windows Mobile) - It works a charm
Have a look at the video if you feel you can spare 10 minutes
p.s:: I was experimenting with iMovie HD on my Macbook and got this video made, lemme know if I need to improve
Link for the video :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d589LnIGW9o
Sorry for the quality : Was using my windows Mobile's Camera and iSight!!

Fullscreen
Hi.
I manage to got it work on my Loox n560, keyboar also work when installed it in main memory, but when I switch to full screen mode then keyboard isn't availible anymore and also can't switch back to normal mode from full screen. How do you switch back to normal mode?

Either soft key for me gets out of full screen, on universal

The program works fine on my SPV M3100 as an RDP client except even when the 'Save Password' box is checked, it doesn't actually save the password !
Do I need to install something else to get this working ?

thx dude, works fine for me with windows mobile 6 on eten x500

RDP does not work for me
Hi all,
I installed the RDP on my xda orbit WM6. When I try to connect my Laptop (XP Prof. SP2) reacts like desdcribed in other forums (changing to the log-in screen). But on my xda I can't see the remote desktop. Just under a second I can see a picture (looks like a message with a button) but then the display goes black and after some seconds an error message comes that the connection can't be established. Does anyone have an idea what I do wrong?

Just installed this new rdp. It works like a charm.
Except I want to use the Function keys I've got on my keypad. So that when I press F12 in Excell that it opens "save as" or F5 to use "go to".
Grtz

Wizard as a Vista Sideshow device?

You'd think it would be built in, but does anyone know if it will be possible to use the Wizard as a Windows Sideshow device in Vista? I got a horizontal dock for this thing just so I'd be able to run a gadget or two on it, but I'm surprised they didn't have it working out of the box ... with the popularity of the Wizard at Microsoft.
A quick search on google shows that there is quite a lot of interest for this.
IMO, it is almost certain this functionality will be added to Windows Mobile devices; lets just hope they don't limit it to WM6 devices.

Very Good idea, I got some old phones with 2.5" LCD working, it is now time to wake them!
um.. install resco photo viewer.. i remember this feature on my hp6515a and after installing resco i have it back!

Sideshow is a technology included with Windows Vista that allows for an external LCD to display widgets, even with the PC powered off. This allows you to see at a glance the weather, if you have e-mail, etc. It's primary use is in tiny LCDs on notebook covers, though if you could use your mobile for this, that would be really neat too.
MS is working on an app that does work on the Wizard, I have used a beta. It was very bugy but it worked.
How about this:
http://www.innobec.com/en/products.php
It adds a virtual display driver to your Windows (XP); this display is an activesync-connected PDA.
I have tried the trial version, and it appears to work (allthough a bit unstable, but I was using a bluetooth connection at the time).

This doesn't work with Active Sync 4.5 and or WM6
looks like they might be scrapping the development of this because of the similar features in vista.

Hah, I hadn't tried it with 4.5; nor does my device have WM6. But in a way it makes sense to stop this functionality. Still, I only recently came across it and thought it could have given some people some ideas.

I wasn't crapping on it, I think it looks cool. I wish it worked for me. I would rather have WM6 than a 320x240 extension to my desktop though. I already have a dual monitor setup.
Sidewindow can be alternative of sideshow but you have to run samurize plugins on that display to look like sideshow. Microsoft states that mobile devices can be used as sideshow with vista, i have tryed many ways and i have no success with this task
I saw one of the Microsoft Powerpoint presentations on their website presenting the sideshow feature and one of the devices among the usual picture frames and things was actually a Smartphone, it looks like in house at microsoft they have done it but jsut not yet for us. EDIT: See http://download.microsoft.com/downl...56b-d47a59388df0/pdc_2005_auxilarydisplay.ppt
Just came across this:
http://www.zoneos.com/index.htm
It works with ActiveSync 4.5 and with WM5 (even though the ppc executable only states 2003). Functionality is the same as the innobec software: it adds a virtual display driver.

Works on WiFi with Server 2003 and WM6 as the client. Very cool, not very usefull but very cool.
Could someone post the Pocket PC and Windows Vista files for ZoneScreen? Unfortunately, the author has removed all the files from his site in favor of the open source release (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zonescreen/) which only has the files for Windows XP.
Best uses for Sideshow
The best usage of this will be with remote controls for Media Center PC's. You'll be able to sit outside on the porch and browse your music files or other media without needing to see the TV screen. This way you can have speakers outside and you can play whatever music you want. Added functionality will be when they finally make the app for windows mobile devices so that you won't even need a third party remote. With 3G devices such as the Hermes (8525) you won't even need to connect via wifi or bluetooth. You'll see all your album art, receive feedback of "now playing" items, etc. It will turn your pda into an expensive 2-way touchpanel such as Crestron, AMX, or ELAN offer. I say screw the laptops. Check out this link and then imagine that on your PDA.

All those complaining about why it doesn't work on vista:
You need ActiveSync for this application which has been replaced with Mobile Device User Center, so it doesn't work. I hope there's an update on the way to make it work, because in partnership with konfabulator widgets, it's incredible. It had it built in a case, and it displayed all the systems specs via widgets.

Windows Vista on Athena ! I done it !

You want to know how to run Windows Vista on Athena? Well, read on!
Firstly, is not really installing the Vista on Athena, i uses the terminal client services to remote control my desktop.
This is the application i use, it's the TCS in WM6, at least 10x better then the original WM5 one. Simply install it and run it, you will have to have knowledge of remote desktop to set this up. I will not try to cover here because there are some ways. Do a search on the net and you will find lots of into.
Below i attach the WM6 TCS and a screen shot of my Vista Ready Athena!
Haha, you got yourself a UMPC now.
That looks Amazing...

It's never gonna work for me...I'm using XP Home Edition. Home Edition does not support Remote desktop/TCS, even though the application comes with it.
Confirmed by microsoft. It will work with XP Pro though! Might just upgrade it then, but can't remember if that wipes all of my installed apps? Don't fancy re-installing them...way too many.

Hey Wu. Can you or anyone else who has successfully got the WM6 Remote Desktop to work on the Athena please give me some guidance?
1st. Thanks for the link Slave 1.....the web based 'LogMein' works a treat!
Wu..I done a clean install of XP Pro (supports TCS and Remote Desktop) and I installed all necessary components for XP & Remote Desktop. Activated 'Allow users....to Remote Desktop' etc.. My problem is not knowing what to put in the 'Domain' section in the WM6 Remote Desktop application. Is Domain the same as IP? Forgive my ignorance on this...I'm a noob to this..
If it's IP info required for this part, which one? I think I have a static IP address, but am not sure. When I check my IP over the web it is different to what shows up for my PC??!!
I'm confused now. This I believe is my only glitch now. Help please. 'LogMeIn.com' works fine, but it's implementation leaves a lot to be desired and all of you guys seem to really like the WM6 style.
Pointers please.

you don't really need to type in anything in the domain, you can leave it blank, the most important part is the first one, the computer name, you have to type in the IP address of your computer, or your actual computer name if you are connecting on a local network. check your computer IP, and just put it in there, it should work.

Looking to buy a Universal

I'm interesting in the current asking price of a Universal.
My primary interest is to use it with the RDP client to connect to windows due to its VGA screen - and thats about it.
Is it still quite an expensive bit of kit? And are there any hopes of swapping Blue Angel for one, as thats only a QVGA screen.
Cheers for any advice that can be given.
FYI, RDP client is there only in WM6(which has its share of bugs). If you use those files in WM5 for RDP client, you cannot use the built in hard keyboard or soft(onscreen) keyboard.
Note: RDP is not there in any WM5 ROM
I have a .cab that runs perfectly on my WM5 rom for the BA.
I've attached the one I use fine on BA.

Yes, only if you use WM6. As I have already said, using the abovementioned cab by you wont let you enter any input via keyboard. So, if you can live with the issues of wm6(mainly, inability to connect to wpa-tsk wifi network and some video call issues), then, you'll be happy with universal

Not true, if you install the above CAB on WM5, then you can use fullscreen RDP and there is no problem with the hardware keyboard at all! I just tried it yesterday on my WM5 Uni, it works great! There are a few bugs with it however:
- You must manually connect to the internet first, the RDP client will not connect for you. If you don't do this, then the RDP client will just report a strange error message.
- The "fit remote desktop to screen" option is permanently enabled. It doesn't make any difference if you tick this option box or not. This means that the remote screen will always be 640x480, which is no problem for me.
- It doesn't seem to close properly on first attempt. I have the X button of SPB Pocket Plus, and this does not close it first time - I have to ALT+TAB back to it and close it a second time before it will be properly closed.
Some or all of these bugs may only appear on WM5, but they are all very minor IMHO. Once again I can confirm that both fullscreen 640x480 VGA mode and the hardware keyboard on the Uni works perfectly in WM5, so enjoy!!! This new RDP client is incredibly fast and responsive, I use it all the time to connect to my home PC with the T-Mobile unlimited 3G data plan

Logmein and HD2

Has anyone here use the service Logmein ( https://secure.logmein.com/US/home.aspx ) with your HD2 ?
The iphone can do it, but I was wondering if the HD2 can do it also. I want to remotely control my PC at home when I am away using the HD2.
They've never made a compatible AX control for the current versions of IE or Opera that come on the HD2, so I'm afraid you have to forget about Logmein. I was gutted about that, but soon got over it when I started using Remote Desktop instead.
Give that a go - it should already be on your device. (Don't forget that you'll need to ensure your PC will accept incoming RDP connections, and you'll need to allow it through any firewall(s) you have - port 3389.)
You can use IEToggle (http://discussion.treocentral.com/treo-pro/177752-toggle-between-pie-ie6-free-app-cab-file.html) to switch back to old IE (Pie) style.
I use Opera as my main browser, and use old IE for logmein.
You use the toggle once, and it stays on the old version of IE until you ise the toggle program again.
With this (and the RACtrlCE.cab from logmein), it works perfectly on the HD2 (at least for me).
Wish they had a standalone app, but I find this program smoother then using RDC for a home laptop.

Hi there,
Well I am using the client, available at https://secure.logmein.com/US/labs/.
It works like charm on my hd2.
sonix
I'm just able to find Hamachi2 cab at that address... I think this topic is about usig the "basic" remot control service, i.e. LogMeIn Ignition client for Windows Mobile
Anyway, having an hamachi client can ease the life with RDP
Opera 10
What are u talking about?
Opera 10 works fine with log me in. Rom version: 1.66.482.1
No need to toggle with IE....
Just ignore the message "To get the best experience...."
yup, using opera 10 (has flash support), i can use logmein without installing extra software.
i have no idea how it works before, but a few things i've noticed...the remote desktop shown on screen is nothing but a bitmap, so it's not interactive. so everytime i do an action that changes the screen, it will redraw the entire screen (and it's quite slow).
i can do left clicks. no idea how to mimick a right click.
you can send input text by using the textbox on top of the screen (then click send). and send special keys that are listed on the dropdown menu.
in summary, it's working but pretty limited.
