SMS Delivery Reports - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

well they finally put this as an option that actually sticks in 2005 but... anyone noticed the reports come back with the number sent/delivered to rather than the name itself?
i work with phones so i know that nokias, SE's and other manufacturers all come back with reports stating delivered to joe bloggs at 13:00 etc but this one states delivered to +4412345678 etc
very confusing especially when you send about 200 new year sms's and want to get rid of those people who it didnt go through to

At my wits end, a list of my problems...help!

I resorted to checking the price of iPhones on ebay earlier so someone please help me before its too late.
Phone - HTC HD2 on Vodafone UK, Appears unbranded but it won't let me download the official Rom from HTC.com based on my serial so who knows...
ROM 1.43.405.1 (70124) WWE
Problems:
1) Text entry - Totally innacurate, the backspace button might has well be labelled "random letter" as it's totally useless!
2) Tap to compose text - Takes 15 seconds if more than about 20 messages from someone, totally unacceptable !!
3) Messages not being sent - I annoyingly have resorted to putting delivery reports on and getting an annoying text message tone back as every single day i'll look at my phone and realise 4-5 messages are merrily waiting in the outbox. the only way i can resolve it is by resetting the phone and sending a further text, usually saying "sorry this didnt send..."
4) Random freezing - Just decides now and again to make me wait for the simplest of tasks.
5) My Location - Doesnt work
6) Facebook - Decided that enough is enough and it doesnt want to upload pictures anymore with no reason given
7) Silent ringing - Sometimes my HTC feels that it would be rude to ring my phone, and so doesnt. it just lights up and says someone is callling despite working fine moments before and being on loud.
I thought i could live with all these things before but they have got worse and more frequent leaving the phone totally unusable. It's a brilliant toy but a terrible phone.
I want to update the ROM to see if that helps but i have to say im not comfortable using the goldcard method and when i inserted my serial onto the HTC website to get the official one it didnt let me download it ??? A friend of mine could do his, if i used his serial to download the installer would it work?
Any help greatly appreciated
This does sound unacceptable.
It may be related to the supplier or the batch of hardware- I have a SIM free one which came with ROm 1.43 and only saw occasional failure to send SMS messages.
The delay loading long conversations is a known bug, and although there is a workaround there is no formal fix yet.
Operator supplied devices, though essentially unbranded, are still not eligible for HTC ROM updates. A ROM downloaded by someone else would also fail unless you use the goldcard method.
Vodafone are still saying the HD2 has been discontinued, so a ROM update is unlikely from them. You may want to try asking for a warranty repair as the phone is unfit for purpose.
In the interim have you tried a factory reset? You'd lose all your own data but it may stabilise the device.

Big plus one on all that.
Neil - Why has it been discontinued by Voda, presume this is due to all the problems with it? What about the other networks.
When the 1.60 ROM is officially released im going to try that.
I have none of your problems except that My Location works partially. I truly believe you have a faulty device so you should take it back.

I've got a vodafone uk hd2 and you're right, you can't update the firmware from the htc website ,although isn't there a soft spl out now?
1. it took me a while to get used to the touch keyboard and I still find it a bit too sensitive. I think the the sensitivity can be adjusted but mine certainly doesn't produce 'random' letters!
2. duuno - I don't keep that many messages but i think if you tap the keyboard icon it might speed things up.
3. there's an official htc fix for that.
4. never had that.
5. works for me.
6. don't really use it but it doesn't seem to want to *download* my pics.
7. never had that
Or try a cooked Rom via "SSPL Method" ......<<HERE>>. Read through the thread to see how hundreds of unhappy Leo owners with offical Roms are now happy with immediate fixes from our own xda chefs....
This is just a temporary way to flash only cooked ROMs as the community is patiently wait for the magic work or Cmonex's Hard SPL.

It's not technical, but marketing. Voda have (had?) a big backlog of orders for the HD2 and they weren't taking new orders until the back orders had been processed. They then started saying that they would not be supplying any more HD2's despite extremely strong demand.
This has been reported to be due to Voda pushing the iPhone heavily and not wanting to compete too much. We also suspect they get the iPhone at a much keener price, so it is in their interests to push that at the expense of the HD2, as the costs/tariffs are similar.
This is all just rumour and speculation of course though some Vodafone insiders have hinted that it has some truth.
The ability to flash a 1.61 ROM may have the same limitations as other official HTC ROMs so it may be that SSPL (or hopefully HSPL) will be the only answer, though that does have warranty implications.

To take the thread off-topic slightly, can you tell me why most people prefer hard spl over soft? I'm not sure what the differences are.
HardSPL is written into the Bootloader file on the device, so if anything goes wrong, the SPL isn't affected and you can go on to flash another ROM.
SoftSPL makes a temporary overwrite to the bootloader; in general it is pretty safe but if by any chance it goes wrong (we had one chap who didn't replace the back cover during a flash and the battery fell out, rendering his device a bit of a brick!) there is a risk the whole thing could become unresponsive.
I'd always try to have a genuine HTC ROM for your specific device available as a backup- as long as you can access the bootloader screen it ought to work.
re
This hd2 thingy is lastly a phone to me. It's predecessor was that also, only less capable. I managed. I like, that it mostly replaces a phone and I can live with it's shortcomings in that area. Admittedly, I have none of the issues, You are talking about. Stock 1.48 rom, some cosmetix.
What it is though...to me...it is hard to describe. Laptop/net in the pocket - and since I do not watch/listen to public television/radio - by choice, this is my secondary home.
I've got what I payed for this time. The HD was borderline, but the HD2 is no contest. It does, what I need it to.
Constantly and Instantly. If the HD did that, I'd not be selling it right now.
I know, this helps You not in technical terms, sorry, but try to observe the philosophical aspects of your choices.
Edit:
Oooops, one minor thingy, I forgot, since what brought about this completely irrelevant response from me in the first place: If the iphone did all teh things, that the hd2 does for me, I'd still not get it. EVER. Even if it'd suck me ****, do my laundry and mend my sox. I ****ing HATE the crowd and that doubles for the "I"crowd. Every breath they take. I would pay a pretty penny to be rid of them all. That is how 'green' I am.
One point of jealousy is the Otterbox Defender. The only one.
Good luck with the adjustment!

HD2 Vodafone Customers beware!!

Ok, so the vibrate feature no longer works on my device. Whether it be the vibrate profile (phone stays silent but no vibrate), Haptic feedback is no longer working in keyboard and neither is the haptic feedback in HTC Sense and inc bootup.
I sent detailed info on my fault, phone was sent last friday. Vodafone sent me a txt saying they had received my device on Monday morning and then sent me another txt at 19:50 saying that the device is on it's way back to me fixed and would be with me tomorrow by Royal Mail and make sure someone would be in.
I then took the day off unpaid and the device never arrived until this morning. I was so excited to get it back but already annoyed due to losing pay yesterday. Opened box and there was my baby. I popped in my battery and no vibrate during boot?? No haptic feedback in keyboard (checked settings)??? Then tried vibrate profile and rang my phone, surprise "No Worky" phone silent and no vibrate. ??? Checked accompanying documents. One is a check list from engineer. As Follows:
"Reported fault Resolved Tick (No it's not)
Data Content Cleared Tick
Latest Version Software Same as sent
Established Live Call Tick
Incoming Audio (speaker) Test Tick
Display Test Tick
Keypad Test Tick
Imei: *********************
Date Test Completed 25/01/10"
Then letter says:
"hank you for sending your phone to us for repair, we are pleased to say that the fault has been fixed.
What we've done
One of our engineers has throughly tested your phone. The fault on your device has been corrected by upgrading the software to the latest manufacturer approved version. If you mentioned any other faults when you booked the repair, these will have also been fixed.
As part of the repair process, we have given your phone a full internal service including upgrading the software inside the phone, as this is how many faults are fixed. The software is responsible for many aspects of how the phone actually works and though you may not expect it, upgrading the software can increase battery life and memory capacity, and provide you with a more up to date phone.
If you need us again
You can pop into the shop or call customer services, blah blah blah."
Well what BULL. The software is the same as previous (before sending) Phone has not been fixed. I lost a days pays (although my choice I surpose for doing as they asked) And I'm now worse off.
I popped into vodafone store and they said they could do nothing as they dont sell that phone instore and were not even aware of the model. See said call 191 from phone. And all they would do is send it off again. I'm reluctant to do this as I'd be without a phone for further number of days. working virtually non-stop over next couple of weeks so being in to recieve the phone may be a prob. I just feel like taking they phone and both signed documents to a solicitor.. They clearly state it's been repaired but it's not. Exactly the same as was sent. Well as soon as contract is up with vodafone I'm going back with O2. First time with Vodafone and also my last!!
Sorry for the rant. Any Idea's? What would you do? Should I send it off for repair again or demand a replacement or just shut up and take it like a *****???? Thanks for listening... Anyone a Solicitor?? lol
Just for reference, the shops, the internet shop, and the phone shop are 3 different branches of the same company. They do not share deals, devices, staff, or even knowledge. This is quite common, and normal for most (if not all) of the major providers.
Anyway, I'd ring back and just explain to them what you've explained to us. Try and stay calm with them but be very persistent. Don't end the call till they've acknowledged what the fault is by telling you what they've recorded on your notes, and they've agreed to once again collect the phone.
If you do need a phone while it's away (do you? You already received text messages from them last time it was away), they may be able to arrange one of the shops to do you a loaner for a while, but it will be a piece of crap that will make you blush when you have to pull it out in public.
My best advice would be to not get angry on the phone with them. It's done, and the person at the other end of the phone isn't responsible for the problem. Too many people start these conversations aggresively, and that won't get you any further. If I was CS staff and someone rang up and started ranting at me immediately, I'd be disinclined to be as helpful as I could.
I know it's crap, but it is what it is, and the phone simply needs fixing or replacing.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
Thanks for your quick reply. The only reason I popped in store was because the letter said I could and I was going into town anyway so took my chance. I was very pleasant on the phone (couldn't have been anything else as I have a really sore throat and a blocked nose, lol) In fact i'd say that the Welsh guy from customer services is about the only thing Vodafone currently have going for them. He was great and very polite. Just waiting on his supervisor calling me for a chat but said it could take up to 48hrs.
Will keep you informed, Just cant believe they say that the problem is fixed. Well gonna keep smiling and looks like i'll have to use my mates pink flip up phone again for a while. uughhh, I'm not gonna hear the end of that I can tell you.

Returning Phone to HTC

Hi guys - When returning the phone for repair to HTC, do they request you to print out something to go along with the phone? :S (apart from the problem).
The customer support guy wasn't very clear at all, and mentioned something about getting emailed something and then printing it out. He was abit all over the place, couldn't understand me half the time, so I don't really hold much faith in the fella.
But I have no idea what, or if. It's too late to call back today to clarify.
I'm in the UK.
As long as you gave them your email address, they will email you instructions for you to follow.
I wrote down the wrong mailing address while I was on the phone with HTC (maybe it was support person or maybe I flipped the numbers). So definitely use the instructions in the email that you should be receiving.

Thanks for your reply ace - I didn't give them my email address over the phone, but prior to calling them I did raise a ticket on-line, so they do have my email in some sense.
I haven't received any emails yet :s So i might call them tomorrow morning to confirm, the courier is also coming tomorrow!
What is it they actually email you...instructions? do do what...
They guy on the phone just told me to pack the phone in a jiffy bag, take out all accessories, and enclose a note with the p[problem.
They will send you 2 emails.
One with a tick sheet to confirm the condition of the phone cosmetically
The other will be a label for you to stick on the box/bag the phone is in for the courier to scan on collection.
You normally get the emails 5 mins after speaking to the htc phone guy.
Thanks dwarf - looks like i'm going to have to ring them again in the morning to get these emails.
Agree with the above. The service in the uk is excellent - i used them twice on my old HD. Had the phone back on both occaisions within 6 days (inc weekend)!
I hope they do get it back to me quick, so far I'm not impressed.
The HTC dude yesterday, didn't even take my email address, so I've been up chasing that this morning as soon as the lines opened. I got the UPS label number written down over the phone, and next thing I know UPS show up on the door - they wouldn't accept! I've had to re-arrange delivery.

[Q] ADP1 + Warranty Claim - Anyone have any experience?

Hey folks!
After three un-responded to emails then several hours on the phone and much hassle (including get transferred to two non-HTC companies), I finally got a hold of HTC's department to handle ADP1 warranty claims. Described the problem to the technician (backlight lights up, lcd does not turn on, phone still shows it's booting fine when connected to a computer - checked adb shell, could copy files on and off, etc) - he agreed it's almost definitely a screen issue, and that it should most definitely be covered under warranty. I get my RMA number.
I shipped the phone in, they received it October 22, 2010. I heard nothing back until I finally called them on December 8th, then December 10th. They showed they had received the phone, but had no response from the repairs department.
Finally got an e-mail back today:
Code:
Diagnosis:
Illegal Software
Suggested Repair:
Replace Main Board
Total Repair Price:
With shipping $388.31
I called back and talked to some girl in tech support, the only note on the account from repairs was 'Will not turn on'. They presumably put a battery in, hit the power button, and when nothing showed up on the screen decided it was a mainboard issue, and have told me that none of my repairs will be covered under warranty because of 'illegal software' (I had flashed Cyanogen Mod - the phone was running without issue until the screen quit. If the mainboard is fried, how exactly could they tell what software was running on it? Or did they just guess?)
I asked her, point blank, "So what you're telling me is when you use the phone you sell as a 'Development Phone' to do 'Development', it voids your warranty?" "Yes sir."
She finally suggested that if I want to dispute the charges, I could talk to the escalations department. They're supposed to call me within the next '72 business hours'... So given their track record with responses, I'll probably get a call in about 6 months.
Does anyone have any experience talking to HTC's repair/escalations departments? Anyone have any suggestions on getting this phone fixed without spending enough to buy a new damn phone?
Thanks!
Either somebody is in error, or that is FRAUD.
There is also a specific exemption to the DMCA (if you're from the US) making hacking of your own personal phone LEGAL.
LEGAL and ILLEGAL are defined by your GOVERNMENT, not HTC.

Samsung´s bad customer service

hey all,
i am from Austria, bought the Nexus S from intlo.com in LA in the states.
The phone was fine for 4 weeks, after that a bad squeezy noise starts when i am doing phone calls or when i receive phone calls.
No reset, no battery out, no SIM-card change did help.
Same bad sound when i use the earphones, so it seems like it is a real hardware issue.
Contact intlo.com, they told me to contact Samsung US direct.
I did that but Samsung told me that when the phone is out of the US they do not support customer service although i am having a US name and address where they can send it after repair or replace. They denied the support coz i was calling from an austrian phone number.
Now i contacted intlo.com again, they are very friendly and doing the pickup, repair and send back service for 230 US.
For all they are same curious like me using a new phone, importing from a different country - hands away from action like that. As long as you don´t need support it is fine!!!
An expensive experience i made now, i like the style and functions of the phone thats the only reason why i am doing the try with the repair service of intlo.com
But f... Samsung for their non support.
The funny thing, Samsung Europe is not supporting as well coz the phone is still not available here.
I wanted to give you all my experience with that my issues around that stuff.
best
is that the only bug that in the phone that is annoying you?
i think i have the same noise during some of the calls.
i don't think it is a hardware issue, if not i'll be getting it way more constantly
it only happens when i use SetCPU
yes: Samsunk customer support is really horrible, i've been more than a month without a phone, they lost it, and still having trouble finding me a replacement, i'm calling every day to get to the bottom of this

Hey,
well the problem i had from the beginning was that the speaker-volume, always a noise when the volume was too high. I could only reduce the volume to switch it to the highest point and then back to the lowest.
The bad noise starts 5 days ago, impossible to do many phone calls a day with this noise, same like you using the phone close to a radio.
I did a complete reset to factory-version 2.3.1, no apps installed nothing but still the same issue so it looks like a hardware issue.
I am looking forward that intlo.com is organizing a replacement for this phone now.
They're just being safe. Anyone can claim to have a U.S. address and call from another country. Should have just used Google Voice and called back if it's all because of the number you were calling from.
I mean, when you give them a Name, address, phone, email whatever and they don´t have any costs with that there is no reason for that reaction.
To tell me that the phone is losing the warranty coz it is out of the US is the biggest bull**** i have ever heared.
Which mobile phone stays in the country where you bought it all the time, well then it is not a mobile phone.
This service is a shame for an international company. Let´s f... the customer, thats their target, sad but true.
