I am using Blue Angel devices for enterprise purposes. Whenever a device crashes it must be reset automatically. I’m therefore in the process of developing a small external circuit that will reset the device whenever the PDA doesn’t transmit data on the serial port.
Is it possible to reset the PDA somehow using the bottom cradle? Alternatively I have to connect my external reset circuit to the internal reset button in the PDA, which I would like to avoid if possible.
Please comment…
Thanks guys!

Hi,
i've googled around but haven't been able to solve this problem: every time i connect my magician to the usb port in my PC, it starts synching and charging at the same time. I know this is correct behaviour since USB ports are able to supply power to connected devices.
Anyway, i'd like to know if there's the possibility to avoid charging from the USB port (while retaining, of course, synching capability).
I need this hack 'cos i often connect my magician to the pc only for the time needed to sync my contacts/appointments (just a few seconds/minutes) or to install some small programs and i fear that recharging the battery for so a short time and 5-10 times a day may reduce its capacity or even destroy it.
I'd like to sync my magician without recharging its battery, do you thing it is possible? Is there a registry hack (either in ppc or in winxp) to disable USB power supplying? Do i need to manually hack my USB cable by cutting out the red and white power wires?
Thanks for your help,
bye bye,
Isidoro
You really have nothing to worry about. Lithium rechargeable batteries do not mind having small frequent top ups.
Ni-Cads on the other hand, yes they would be ruined.
Your phone uses a Lithium battery so as I said, no need to worry.
If you really wanted to, you could build a custom USB cable which does not carry the power, by omitting the GND and +5V pins (the first and the last pin of the usb connector).
This is not really needed, because modern batteries don't get damaged by multiple recharges...

I tried it but it didn't work: the phone doesn't charge, ok, but it doesn't' sync too!!! Winxp doesn't see it.
Maybe i should keep ground wire?!? Mah!

I know, i know, but i would definitely feel more safe if i could sync without charge.
Anyway, thank u all,
Isidoro
Use bluettoth to sync the device with pc, your problem will be solved.
All 4 wires are required for usb to work.
Removing any of them will prevent USB operating.
As stated, it doesnt matter about the top up charging, dont worry.
Disable charging
Disable USB charging
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
and change the
EnableUsbCharging to '0'
then
soft reset
I'd like to try this on my Ameo. How do I use the REG files contained in the ZIP file? I am using the Ameo to connect my laptop to the Internet. It works great over a USB cable but I cannot get it to work with Bluetooth. I am concerned about constant short recharges. Is there a special folder to put the REG files into? How do I make the Ameo read the values before doing a soft reset?
Thanks
Bob
Hi
I'd like to try your solution with editing registry on my T Mobile Ameo. Could you tell me wwhat I need to do with the REG files. Is there a special folder to put them in? How do I invoke the setting before doing a soft reste ?
Thanks
Bob
@pedjajovicevic : my magician does not have this registry key
I searched for that key you wrote,
but this key doesn't exist on my (german) magician.
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv
Under BuiltIn there are many subkeys, but no usbfndrv, i searched the complete Builtin key but no key you wrote.
Can you tell me, where I maybe can create this key. Would it work ???
OK, i will try, but i don't know when. Two childs hold me away from my notebook
Are those registry files executed from the phone or the PC?
on your device.
but it won't work - there are no ways disable usb chargin in Magician via regsitry.
Anyone-Please try to help me with these issues:
1. When the unit is in STBY (no screen output) and i connect any USB cable the PDA "wakes-up" and if connected to a PC will start doing a Sync, is there anyway to stop the "wake-up" when connecting a USB cable (-or installing Mini-SD card).......all i want to do is charge the unit while it's in STBY mode. In my old Mio 168RS this could be done in Settings. Maybe someone has a small application that can do this?
2. Sometimes when i innitiate Active Sync i get this Error "To Sync this device you must install ActiveSync 4.0 or higher on your Desktop computer"....but actually i'm running ActiveSync 4.5 already on my PC!!??
Then i need to remove the ActiveSync from my PC and re-install it again until the next time.
Not in stb mode you can switch off the 3600 it still charging etc. only it is off
I don't know if this could help because I never tried it. However, I tried to disable the usb connection from Active Sync for other purposes. In Active Sync program, you can actuallly choose to turn off the usb detection (which can be turned back on anytime). That way, Active Sync will not automatically update your device, hence, turning your device on. In that case, you can just plug in your device for charging purpose.
Thanks for your inputs but this is not what i'm looking for.
In my old Mio168RS there was the possibility in "Settings" that the unit did not come out of STBY mode when connecting to a USB input or when inserting an external SD card.
By the way turning the unit "OFF" will also turn off the phone!!
One additional question that someone might be able to help is if there any way to increase the Speaker Phone volume above and beyond what can be done within the settings.???
Hello
I'm looking for some help and advice with a problem I have with an i-mate xda2 and trying to communicate with my desktop using windows xp. Like many other owners of the xda2 the bottom connector has become completely disconnected and as a result I have been trying to set up using Activesync over Biuetooth. I have followed various tutorials on how to make this connection without sucess. I recently did a hard reset on the xda2(WM2005) and now find I do not have the options for setting up Bluetooth that I had before the hard reset-for example I cannot select serial port option-I just have the hands-free option! It may be that I need to use the cradle/USB connection before I can set up activesync over Bluetooth.
Note -the desktop and xda2 recognise each other but not using activesync.
Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

That link might help you.
However, I thought they had disabled wireless access completely with Activesync as a security measure?
Anyway, someone can correct me if I am wrong. I have never done it over bluetooth personally.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply but I'm afraid it did not help. I think my problem stems from the fact that I did a hard reset after the usb cable socket on my PPC broke off and this is stopping me getting the correct Bluetooth settings.

Hi
I am having a problem with my Wizard. This weekend i was taken by surprise by a downpour and my phone somehow got wet. At first it didn't seem like a big deal, everything seemed to work just fine but on monday when i got back to the office and tryied to sync my phone i've noticed the problem.
The thing is that it can't get an ip, the connection (usb) reports limited or no connectivity and can't get an IP thus, can't sync. The phone runs ok, i can get it charged;
Can anyone help?
I dont think so that its because of it getting wet, it might be a problem with your ROM or PC but still wait for advice by someother Senior member too.
There are two main possibilities:
1) If your computer can't seem to connect to the device via USB (it won't show up in the Device Manager, and may trigger an malfunctioning device error), it's possible the water short-circuited your onboard USB controller. This might render a data connection via USB to the host computer impossible while still allowing the device to charge off the Slave voltage pins.
2) If you can connect to your wizard and the device (if, for example, it shows up in the Device Manager), that means that serial communications are working just fine, as, if your computer was able to interpret the USB Device ID, your onboard USB controller is most likely not damaged. In this case, I'd probably try screwing with your ActiveSync settings, and focus on undoing anything you've changed recently, like USB drivers on the host computer or ROM on the device.
Hello,
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 which boots up normaly but the screen is not starting at all. It felt down to the floor, and the screen is not starting.
I can here all sounds during boot up and if I press the Main button, I can see that back and menu buttons get litghed. Also can receive calls, etc... so it works fine.
At this point, I am not sure if touch screen is also damaged or not...
1. My first attempt was to use Kies. It detects the phone perfectly but it says I have to change connection to MTP. No way to do it as I cannot see anything on the screen.
2. Second attemp. I have bougth a microusb HUB to connect a HDMI cable to my TV and also a mouse, but my tv is not detecting any signal in the HDMI port. (usb powered as well).
3. USB debugging is not activated in the phone, so I think I cannot retrieve any data by using ADB.
I could copy all pictures to my pc, as when I connect the phone to my laptop, it detects multimedia files and I could copy.
Contacts are not sync with Google but stored in the phone, so is there any way to get all contacts somehow?
I hope you can help me.
Thanks
Javier
Without replacing the screen, there's no way I know of to get the contact information off the device, given that you already tried casting the screen to your television.
