syncronizing a lot of Outlook adress - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Has anyone experience in syncronizing about 10000 adresses (exactly 9612) of Outlook to this new device?
I have a Nokia Comunicator 9500 and want to change it because it is not able to handle so much adresses.
Any infos would be appreciated very much.
p.s.: I have no Exchange Server, therefore the sync would be from Outlook to the Imate JasJar

i only have 340 odd contacts and it handles that no problem, youve got 10 times that amount, i dont have a clue

I suppose they are business related? You may want to minimize these addresses by limiting yourself to a few categories ... 10000 addresses is enormous

Ok, who wants to write a little script that'll generate 10,000 addresses so that we can try it out!?
I think you'll struggle to find anyone else who has that many addresses and a JasJar to try it on!?

i have 3100 adress, 130 text emails and 210 tasks (?!?!?),
my pim.vol on the universal is 18MB. i sync with Outlook 2003.
10000 adress, maybe but no Software.
Or is my Pim.vol not ok ???
The 1 sync Time was 2-3 h, the secend and ..... 2 Minutes

Contact mismatch between outlook and qtek2020??

I have a Qtek 2020, and i just finished writing ca. 250 contacts in my Ms Outlook with all the information i need - BUT
Ive noticed, that Ms Outlook automatically formats a phone number to be i.e. +45 60 30 20 10 and not +4560302010.
Doing this, my Qtek does not recognize the phonenumber when i synced my contacts with the Qtek, and therefore i can see the number on the phone, but it does not link with the contact information???
I have tried to adjust it manually in the phone, deleting the spaces in the phonenumber, but it just goes back to normal, when i sync my contacts again.
I have ROM 1.60.00WE and radio version 1.06.01 on a qtek 2020.
Anyone who knows a solution ?
Thank you
i had that issue at one point i changed them on the xda
and set activesync to replace anything which were not the same
as the pocketpc that solved it

phone contacts mixed up with email contacts

I can't find an easy way to display my list of people I phone (about 110) without it being mixed in with all my contacts that Outlook has gathered from email (1766). I can call them up via SIM manager but it takes about 30 seconds to build the list .... and I'm not sure whether people I add in here are reflected in my Contacts and vice versa. I'm sure there's a market for an app that manages email and phone numbers separately
Mike
why ?
i moved all my sim contacts to outlook as soon as i got the xda
havent had any reason what so ever to have any on the sim
Two reasons really:
Searching through a huge list while driving is much more difficult than it used to be on my ordinary cellphone with just 100 plus entries, and secondly MS Voice Command (I think) has to build a database for all 1700 outlook contact entries - I think this might be why it's misbehaving.
...... but I don't see anyone else complaining about this, so maybe I'm just working in some weird way
Mike
Create a sub folder in outlook, and move all your email contacts to that folder, then of course you'll need to tell outlook, through the options, the location of the new folder to use for your email address book.
Then leave all your phone contacts in the default contact folder, and this is the one active sync uses when syncing.
This is all due to a limitation in Active Sync whereby you can't specify the folder to be used for syncing, even though, of all things, Nokia PC Suite will do this, whilst microsoft's own solution WON'T.
The other alternative some use, is to use CATEGORIES.
By tagging all your phone contacts with a category label, say for example phone, then you CAN set up activesync so that when it syncs, ONLY contacts of a certain Category are synced.
Hope this helps fit your problem.
Hey .... both of those suggestions sound good. I will experiment. Am I right in thinking though, that I then won't have any email addresses at all in my XDA2. I guess I can live with this, as I'm generally only replying to emails with the XDA2
Mike
the way i do it is to have a category in outlook; i use the category of peronal which is out of the box outlook and then in active sync you have the option of synching only people in a categoy. i have outlook 2003

Er that depends.
Now I'm not sure what your original question meant?
The follow up implies that you do want Email address contacts on the XDA2.
So in simple terms, either you do want them, or you dont.
If you want a more prescriptive choice, let me know a bit more detail of what you are hoping to acheive, and I will let you know if there is a way or a workaround for it....
If only SOME contact records containing an Email address are needed by you on the XDA2, then just also tick them as a "Phone Contact" in the Category field, and these will then sync accross if you use Categories as the method.
Let me know exactly waht you mean...
actually your summary of what I want is pretty spot on. A few email addresses and ALL my phone contacts on the XDA. All my email addresses on the PC (I don't really care about the telephone numbers being on the PC). I followed your advice - but didn't think it through properly. I deleted all my contacts on the XDA, then set active sync on the PC to synchronise only the contacts I'd marked as phone contacts. Of course when it sync'd it decided to wipe out ALL the contacts on the PC. No matter - I have a backup - but incidentally I found that with just the 118 contacts from my SIM card loaded into the XDA, both Voice Command and Fonix were dramatically imroved.
Mike
If you open contacts, and then tap on the w, m, h, or e, you will see the available contact details for each person. Just set it to display what you want and it will be remembered between syncs.
IE. Joe Bloggs with a mobile (m), e-mail (e) or work phone (w), home phone (h). If you want the mobile phone number displayed, tap on the letter and choose M.

Automatic Polling of more than one email account?

I have two IMAP accounts configured in the messaging app in my Jasjar. They're both set to automatically poll (I've tried a number of intervals from 5 minutes to 30 minutes). However, WM5 on my Jasjar only seems to automatically poll whichever account is active. If I go to the inbox of my personal email account then I'll never get new emails in my work account. If I'm in the inbox of my work account I'll never get new emails in my personal account.
This is my first PPC device, but it's my understanding that this is how things worked in WM 2003 SE and earlier, so I figured that it was the same in WM5. However, several people with Imate K-Jams (also WM5) are reporting on howard forums that their devices will automatically poll all of their accounts no matter which one is active. I've tried deleting and reconfiguring my email accounts and even hard resetting and reconfiguring and I still can't get this to work. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a difference in the messaging app between the K-Jam and the Jasjar.
Is anyone else with a Jasjar (or other universal) able to automatically poll more than one IMAP or POP3 account?
Thanks,
Brett
brets iv got the same issue as you, but im runing the wm2005 on my blue angle- but when i had wm 2003 ididnt have an issue i guess it maybe a bug with 2005 (or just one BA)

[SEEKING ADVICE] - "push" mail

Hi mates,
I'm sure this question have been asked before, but I just cannot find a keyword to search for the answer. Would appreciate if you guys could answer here or direct me to the appropriate thread (or at least give me a hint on the keyword please - THANKS!)
ok. I was trying out emoze to get "push mail", but to do that, I need a 24/7 PC that is connected to the internet 24/7..
and I just realised that with my WM6 838PRO (Hermes), in the email settings, I could actually set it to check emails at a predetermined time (ie. every 10mins, 30mins etc..)
now, if anybody have already compared the data usage (cost), assuming its the same email (with the same amount of text) that arrives via emoze and WM6's email function.. and also assuming in both cases, it is set to every 10mins, could you tell me which one would cost less? (data usage)
and also whether the battery consumption would be the same?
with this WM6's email scheduled checking, is this MS DirectPush? or DirectPush is something else altogether?
THANKS SO MUCH !!
Regards,
[Charles]
I know this isn't a direct answer, but I would avoid emoze at all costs. The PC connector version requires you have your PC running and Outlook open at all times (unless you have an Exchange server and can use the Outlook Web Access version) and the application is hopelessly unstable. Have a look at my posts in the emoze support forum. Requests for help end up in an endless loop and then just disappear without resolution.
WM6 has true push email through MS Direct Push, which at present (I think) only works for Hotmail/Windows Live accounts. Other POP3 accounts can be set up in Pocket Outlook with a timed mail-check setting. In practice I have found that to work only intermittently.
It depends on whether you want the service to allow you to read your emails or reply as well. I am more concerned about reading them, so my solution was to set my corporate email account to auto-forward to my Hotmail account, which is then pushed instantly to my XDA. It's not a perfect solution at all (and a bit ridiculous to have Hotmail providing corporate mail) but the third-party solutions just don't seem ready as yet. I have tried a few and all have serious stability issues. Emoze is, however, the worst of the available offerings, IMHO.
I'm surprised more people haven't already responded.
Head over to http://live.mail2web.com and get a free Live account with them. Then, forward your regular email to that email address and set up your phone to use Direct Push with your mail2web account. Easy as sleep.
It's really push email, really fast, really FREE. Obviously, if you want any kind of email service on your phone, make sure you have a data plan that will support that much data transfer.
Hi mates,
Thanks for responding.
Although I am a cheapo (looking for free services), but i also need my receipients to see my domain's email address. I think mail2web allows some form of POP3 mail checking, but every email replied is from <myname>@mail2web.com ..
I don't mind the advertisements at the bottom of the emails (like what emoze does), but i cannot keep a PC 24/7 connected permanently..
I've been "testing" (trying) emoze for some time, and yes, it is not exactly stable. it crashed a couple of times.. ran outlook permanently in my PC (not running a server OS, just plain 'o Win XP) for a couple of weeks, and it did crashed once too.
for the past day, i've been using the Pocket Outlook to do the "pushmail" at atimed interval. it's actually pulling, not pushing.. only setback is, i can't set peak/off-peak times ..
guess beggars can't be chooser ya?
btw, i set Message download limit to 1Kb, and when i receive a email that states "3/28K", so the actual email is 28Kb, but what is "3" ? can't be 3Kb, right?
THANKS!!
Unfortunately, I have not found ANY service (push or otherwise) that will give you the "proxy address" capability that you want (making the email look like it came from your domain) for free. Inexpensive, yes....but not free.
You can sign up for mail2web's "enhanced email" plan ($4.99/month), which still gives you push mail, but adds proxy address options and pop/imap access, but for $6.99/month you can get a 1&1 personal exchange plan over at 1&1.com that gives you all of that PLUS full Exchange hosting (meaning you can hook into the Exchange server with your desktop Outlook 2003/2007 to syncrhonize with your handheld).
I actually am currently using the latter option for myself. You can get push mail for free, but not with the proxy address you want (you get what you pay for unfortunately).
I've been happily using the Pocket Outlook for "pull mail". I set it to check my pop3 account every 30mins.
so far so good. no missed emails for about a week!!
Since it is my own pop3 email account, replies all come from my own email domain name. professional!!
only issue is, i can't specify peak and off-peak time (ie. peak hour = every 30 min, off-peak = every 60 min or 2hrs) ..
if that could be done, i'll be very glad!
mail2web html
With mail2web I cant specify html. Only "Plain Text" message format is possible. Any ideas.
Thank you

Outlook in WM - sending emails from Outlook Account

Hi Everybody,
I recently got TP2 rhodium. The 1st WM system for me.
I tried to use Outlook in a "natural" way but I found some simple things I can't do.
Explain.
I have 3 accounts in my phone:
- "Outlook", which is synced with my company PC via ActiveSync.
- A "work account", that I use to receive and send emails using my company ISP (i.e. [email protected]) when I am away.
- A "personal account", that I use to receive and send emails using my personal ISP (i.e. [email protected]) when I am away.
Everything works: Outlook sync, work send-receive emails, personal send-receive emails.
The most simple thing I expect I can do is:
1) I sync Outlook via Activesync. So I get an updated copy of my pc inbox/outbox in my TP2. Including emails I didn't read yet.
2) I go away, get in the inbox of my phone outlook account and read emails. There's one I need to reply immediately!
3) I reply to that email, but...
the reply goes into the outgoing box but it remains there. It will be sent the next time I'll sync, but it will be next week.
I didn't find a way to use one of the 2 other accounts to send that email from inside the "outlook account". It's a reply, so I have to write it inside that account.
The most natural thing would be:
- an option in the "from" field allowing me to use one of the two accounts
- send the email
- watch it going in the outbox of my "outlook account", so that it will be synced the next time.
in addition,
if I send an email from my "work account", it will go into its outbox, but I cannot move it to the "outlook account" outbox, so that it can't be synced when I connect to my pc!!
I suppose many people encountered the same problem.
I tried to search, but I couldn't find any.
Anyone can address me to a solution?
I thank you all in advance.
Hi..
Thats what i did in the past.. i sync emails so that i know which ones i need to reply... but found it a hassle at times...
why not try using pop3 directly? Jus save a copy of emails on server.... i pop as and when i need... but only my outlook in laptop downloads emails.. i find it better in sense i have contorl when i use outlook.. but thats jus me and my 2cents..
Hi chuachongchee,
I hope I'll find a straight way for you and for me to do what I mean.
I can't believe it is not possible to do such an elementary thing with an almost 600€ gear and a WM at its 6th release!!! And such a cool design !!
Do outlook mobile developers ever work away from their pc?
I am not good in WM software "handling", but a lot of people is, and I am sure someone has already solved this issue.
Just hope I'll find one...
hi asamax,
Just confirming that I have a similar problem that would be solved if I could change the "From" field in the outgoing message (as with your problem).
I also have done a lot of searching and found nothing yet.
I have found that its possible to write "plugin" apps for
tmail (aka Outlook mail for WM) but found none that allow the change of the "From" field - annoying!

Don't mind,
I am sure this will be solved.
Such simple change + Such evident miss.
Please skilled-xda-developers write an outlook hacked rev. allowing:
- choose the account in the email "from" field
- copy/move emails between different accounts folders
- some additional options for each accounts would be useful: default c/c and hidden c/c recipients.
the 3rd in the list allowed me to solve this issue in my old Nokia E70 (!!).
I just put a rule for incoming mail in my PC outlook: when I receive a mail in whic i am in hidden c/c AND in the from fields, move it in the sent items folder. But it was not a very clean way... I expect more from my brand new rhodium!!!
