Locking Screen - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I've noticed that when my JAM's in my pocket, I have a tendancy to press parts of the screen with my fingers. I found a program that locked the screen, but I couldn't unlock it again so I had to take the battery out. How does everyone get around this?
Also, is there a way to map a bluetooth serial port? I can't seem to get my JAM working with my tomtom GPS reciever, but on my last PDA, an iPAQ 4150, I could map all incoming bluetooth connections to a com port.

Go to settings > system > button lock.

Have you tried ScreenLock for PocketPC? It will turn off your display and lock your hardware keys. To unlock it you need to press buttons 1 and 4 at the same time. Check under Buttons in settings and find out what you have designated as buttons 1 and 4. That should do it. It's also Freeware. You can get it at http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/screenlockforpocketpc.shtml

Screenlock works great, thanks . Any ideas about the bluetooth serial port though?

You could try gpsgate.

I dont know how this reply got into this thread, I was replying to somebody who wanted to reassign com ports :?: :?: :?:

You could try Deltalock as well at only 20Kb. You can configure the buttons to unlock the screen (requires pressing two buttons).

Switch off gsm WITHOUT switching off BT

Does anyone know how I can switch off the phone (GSM) part of my PDA but still be able to use a bluetooth GPS? When I try to put BT back on after going into flight mode the Qtek forces me to switch flight mode off and so putting on the GSM transmitter.
Try this tool for example....

Thanks Stefan! Will try out today.

Strange behaviour of RadioOn&Off
I wanted to use this application with a BT GPS Holux 236 and TomTom5, but the GPS fails to communicate with the TT5 software. Pairing is OK and the BT receiver can be seen by the QTek, as well as my handsfree carkit. But the TT5 software doesn't see any GPS!
I tried to start TT5 before using RadioOff and then when TT5 is working together with the GPS I switched the GSM radio off and guess, it works that way!
Stopping the TT5 application and restarting it again doesn't work. So I will have to start the GSM before starting TT5, which is no good for me.
Any other solutions?
The best way to turn off the phone while leaving bluetooth on is simple, All you have to do is make sure you have pin coded your SIM card, so when you soft reset your XDA2i it asks for the pin code, dont enter anything just press cancel the pda turns on but the phone stays off, turn on bluetooth and select tomtom and there you go, toget the phone back on just soft reset.

I don't think so as emergency numbers can still be dialed, so the radio must be on! This way one won't be able to receive calls or dial out a number except 901.

Qtek 9100 cannot pair POLSTAR GPS receiver

Does anyone knows why cant I pair wizard to polstar receiver.
If anyone have a solution please help.
THX
If I can i'll help you, but first tell us what exactly is the problem? Does your ppc "see" the receiver? is your phone in "discovereble" mode? etc. etc.
Greetz ET
is it just not seeing the unit ? maybe you have to put the gps into a discoverable mode (often done by holding the power button).
If you have paired it ok and it's just not communicating, you may have to set the outgoing/incoming port in the bluetooth manager
Have you tried the gps with other pda's ?
need more info about where/how it's failing
cheers,
malty
Phone can see the receiver but when I try to manage the ports for communication it wont work. I cant pair it.
Blu light on receiver blikns, but when the devices are paired the light is turned on.
Is there any bluetooth manager for qtek 9100 like on qtek 9090?
thx
Hmm, let's try this step by step. (my phone is in Dutch so the translation might differ a bit).
1. go to bluetooth settings
2. in the first tab you have to enable "visible to other devices"
3. go to the second tab "devices"
4. tap on "new partnesship"
5. after a few moments your'e gps should be visible
6. tap on the gps
7. the phone will ask a code, enter the code provided with your GPS receiver (if you don't enter a number you will never be able to connect or "pair" with your GPS)
8. select the com port of your'e device and your'e done.
If you can't connect with your GPS within TOMTOM then goto the the third tab "COM ports" and select new outgoing port
Select a port. Then open TOMTOM and in options select for your GPS the same portnumber as in you're PPC.
This should make your'e GPS work with your'e PPC.

Hmm, I see that you didn't specify witch navigation program you use, I just asumed you are using TOMTOM  . But that's not really a problem. In every navigation program there is a "settings" tab I believe

8525 and TomTom6

I've purchased and installed the TomTom 6 navigation software with some specific maps but am having a problem with getting a bluetooth GPS device to properly partner up with the device and software. When I ask the 8525 to establish a 'new partnership' it finds the BT-GPS-359 GPS receiver, but when I go to 'partnership settings' I only get a selection of 'Serial Port' for 'services to use from this device'. I would assume here that I would get the TomTom software option to choose. When I open the TomTom software and ask to configure the GPS receiver it isn't properly being located. Is there some specific settings I need to use with Com Ports? Any suggestions to get these devices working together would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Create an outgoing com port assigned port 2 and try to find it using TT6. That is what I did with my BT-338

Thanks...that did the trick. So now when I want to use the Navigation software do I just turn on the GPS receiver and start the TomTom software and it will automatically 'partner' for navigation purposes?
Yep, that is it.
You can even minimize it and place a call... it doesn't miss a beat! I'm definitely impressed with it!
...then you can maximize it using the red icon in bottom tray and continue the call.
I have to admit that after getting the partnership working and using the 8525 as a GPS navigator...I am really impressed. I've never used GPS navigation so don't have much to compare it to, but with the 8525 displayed in a mount on the dash and the tomtom software working I have found it very accurate today in getting me to my destination (and gee....I even have multiple choices for the voice I want to hear!!)

ROM v1.35 will freeze randomly for lots of different apps, usually when they are first loaded. It looks like AKU 3.3 has fixed this problem, so hopefully we won't be seeing these random freezes any more.

Does TT6 let you use the slide-out keyboard for entering destinations etc?
Anyone?

Thanks - now I know which car cradle to get.
I just wish I could find a way to mute driving directions for places I go every day and just get a "CONGESTION AHEAD" from TT Traffic.
Hi there,
How do you get out of full screen mode and see wm5 status bar? I am stuck in full screen.

Yes but the display won't go into landscape (side ways) it'll stay in the normal display but as soon as you press a key on the keyboard the TT6 on screen keyboard will pop up which is big enough to use your fingers.
Thanks
Hi rgreenpc,
Mnay thanks, that seems to do the trick.
Richrdracer
can somebody compare the speed difference between tt6 and tt5.21.
my tt5.21 need sooo long to start up (45 sec!!). Is tt6 quicker?
Someone found a trick to use the old tt5 maps?
As indicated in other posts on this site, I found that TT6 slows up and sometimes freezes when Points of Interest (POIs) are used. In the UK we have lots of speed cameras and setting these on certainly causes TT6 to freeze on my MDA Vario II (HTC TyTn). After turning off all POIs I just completed a trip with no freezes and the display was far smoother - with the POIs on it was jerking and lagged behind current position.
I have the Holux GPSSlim 240 BT receiver and found it impossible to get it to work reliably with TT6 unless I stopped WM5 from managing the GPS receiver. After unticking "Manage GPS automatically ..." all works well with TT6 and this receiver. Interestingly I cannot get it to work with Google Map (for PPC) without having WM5 manage the GPS receiver!
On my device TT6 start-up performance (without any route set) is:
- Display of normal route screen - 8-15 secs
- BT then turns on within - 20 secs
- TT6 sees GPS receiver - 25-35 secs
- TT6 displays GPS info - 27-37 secs
(all time elapsed from TT6 start) Before I removed the tick for WM5 control of GPS data it took up to 5 mins for TT6 to see the GPS receiver, and sometimes TT6 never saw the GPS receiver at all - even though it was working and Google map was able to see it every time.
I have not applied the 6.01 upgeade yet - are there any improvements? Have others found this issue with WM5 mangement and is it fixed with the upgrade?
Hope this is of help to some.

TomTom6 Bluetooth Issue

I´m running Black Shadow 4.0
Radio 1.43.00.00
Protocol Version 32.76.7020.19h
BT Devices :
Handsfree Nokia BH-200 - Configured in Bluetooth Connections as HANDS FREE
Gps Holux GPSSLIM240 - Configured in Bluetooth Connections as SERIAL PORT
I´m always connected with my hands-free device. when i enter tomtom, i never get a response from the gps. I have to exit the program, turn off BT in the TYTN, turn it on .. and then reenter TOMTOM 6.030. Sometimes then it finds the gps module and then connects....
Why does this thing happen ? is the BT from TYTN limited to one connection? the devices are using different services ....
It´s making me crazy.
And another thing. When i use the TODAY ICON to rotate screen, it rotates to de the side of the keyboard. When i configure a button to that same program "<rotate screen>" usually the voice call button .. it rotates to the other side .... it´s making me crazy ... this because i can´t find an option in tomtom to make the screen rotate when i run it
Is it possible to make a similar bat file as we make in the pc ... i´d like to switch BT off .. then on .. then rotate screen .. then run tomtom.
The problem is that after exit it would remain in landscape mode.
Please help ....

Bluetooth GPS Question

Hello everybody, Long time reader first time poster.
I've got a little question I'd like to have answered.
I've got a I-mate JasJam and I use it for a lot of things, one is for GPS. To understand my problem I'm going to quickly tell you what my situation was before.
I used to Own a Ipaq RW6828 (Atom) However, I managed to drop it in a mop bucket and it died. (still sold it on ebay and got 80 bucks for it =D ) So I decided to get a Hermes. Back when I used my Ipaq for GPS, All I had to do was turn on the GPS receiver and run TomTom and it would instantly connect the Receiver to the Ipaq and would proceed in using it.
HOWEVER, now with my JasJam, every time I wish to use the GPS, I have to set it up every time ( select incoming / outgoing ports, etc) Which is a little annoying as when I wish to use the GPS, I don't really wish to waste the time setting it up.
Now this leads to my question if you haven't already guessed, How do I get it to do what the ipaq did and instantly connect the receiver to the PDA? I do know one way in fixing it but it requires an upgrade to WM6, and apparently it voids the JasJam warranty if I do so.
One thing I have noticed is that my Ipaq used to have a GPS settings program in the settings menu under the System tap, and the JasJam doesn't. I'm running WM5, and the GPS receiver is a generic one I got off ebay..
So that's my problem, I'd be greatly in your debpt if you helped me figure this one out.
Thank you for reading all of this, I can be the type of person to ramble on
The way I got it to work
Hi There-
I had the same problem this week - and I found the following solution which now works as we all want it. i.e turn both devices on - start TT and voila.
The way I did this.
1. Go into Settings -> Bluetooth and pair your GPS device.
2. Set the outgoing port (i set up port COM port 9 - though you can do whatever is free).
3. In your TomTom folder on your Hermes - you will find a file called: navigator.cfg - firstly take a backup of this file.
4. Then open this file up (note: i transferred it to my PC for editing).
5. On the first line (or second) of this file - you will see a reference to a COM port.
6. Ensure it is the same COM port as per Step 2 above.
7. Copy the file back to your Hermes - overwriting the original one.
8. Then start up TT and give it about 10-15 seconds and you will see that it will automatically connect - each and every time.
9. MOST Importantly do not EVER go into the COM port settings within the TT app on the hermes - as this will overwrite the 'navigator.cfg' file and corrupt your settings. If you do - then just follow the steps again.
Let me know if it works ok for you.
Thanks
Hi there.
Thanks for the reply, however this didn't work.
TomTom is fine once I pair it. It's the fact that I have to pair the Receiver my hermes every time I turn the GPS on. And set it up under the blue tooth connection settings. That's whats annoying me, TomTom picks up the receiver fine when I set it up the first time, So yeah, it;s more of a Windows Mobile thing that I need to fix.
Suggestions?
Could this be because TomTom connects to the device over bluetooth and thus takes control of it?
I use Navigon Mobile Navigator and that "locks" onto the BT GPS, so when I exit that it shuts down the BT. However, if I've got a BT headset switched on it leaves BT switched on.
Have you paired the device already with your PPC device before you let the SatNav software have it's go?
If it is still not saving the settings then it could be a problem with you're bluetooth. I had this earlier in the week and unfortunately the only "fix" I found was to do a hard reset. Cue a couple hours reinstalling
Ahh well. Good luck and you'll let us know the outcome, won't you?!
Thats a shame it did not work for you.
I take it you have gone through the tomtom support notes like this one?:

JASJAM GPS Receiver Bluetooth connection problem!!
hi guys,
i have same problem when imaking a Bluetooth connection with a GPS Receiver i have jasjam W5 OS when i search my JASJAM finds my GPS Receiver its showing (?) question mark i think it is not recognizing well it pairing also but i don't no how to establish connection with GPS receiver there is no connect option my friend has PDA2K it has connect option he can connect all devices but mine not showing please help me
Thanks
destinator 6
Ok. Pairing.
Switch on your phone bluetooth. Switch on the GPS/BT device. Goto the BT menu on you're phone and tap 'add new device' and hold the gps near.
When it comes up with what you think is the closest match then select and press next. It'll ususally ask you to put a password in. This is either 1234 or 0000.
If this is ok then click next or finish.
You might need to setup a com port on your pda for this phone for some other devices to connect. To do this you'd clck on "Add com port" and then select the device and there will be a way of selecting a com port.
I know it's a bit fuzzy but ive not got the device ihere, and this is all in memory.
Cheers, Elwyn
hi Elwyn M3100 ,
thanks for your quick reply, i did everythg seems working fine but i don't know how to connect pairing no problem and port also but my only problem there is no connect option when i go in destinator it says no GPS found .....
i tried to update my ROM but no result .... im having bad luck
Right. Ok.
1. Do you have the BT GPS unit sucessfully paired to the PDA?
2. When you go into your satnav software, is Bluetooth on you're phone switched on?
THANKX BUDDY ! IT WORKED !!!!!!!!!! YUPEEEEEEEEE

Most SatNav software, once it discovers you have a Bluetooth GPS module take it upon themselves to switch BT on and off on your phone. In one way this can be helpful, but bloody annoying if you've got a BT headset in use too
However. Once you've got it mastered, things look up from there.
Occasionally as well I find that the BT isn't actually on when it says it is, and a soft reset usually cures that.... Anyway. Congrats
