memory layout of xda2I - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

does anyone have the memory layout for the 2i. I have been messing about with the magician extended rom doing a rom dump and then mounting the extended section as a virtual disk and was wandering if i could do the same with the 2i.
Havnt had time to mess about to much with the 2i so any help on this would be great.

Extended_ROM

Hi all,
Need your advice. I just found that under the below memory i have an additional storage (Named Extended_ROM), it is 15.97MB & used 15.18MB, free only 0.79MB. Do you have any idea what is the storage for? Can I remove & free some memory? Thanks
I am currently on ROM 2.06. When i check with my pals, who is still at ROM 1.66, they do not have this additional Storage.
Start/Setting/System/Memory/Storage Card
I have 3 options
a. Storage Card (my 256MB SD card)
b. Extended_ROM (Dont know what this is)
c. Storage (Should be XDAII memory)
Rgds
This part of ROM (Read Only) is allocted for extra (region or operator) related bundle that is customizable to owners liking 8)
It is untouchable except that it is customizable :!:
You can add and remove from and to it just like your typical folders...for instance, the camera, album, operator based codes and other stuff are among the Ext_ROM
Hi
Ext_rom is the most important place when a Hard Reset (format) happen.
The Ext_rom has all the programs that is installed when a Hard Reset happen. So, if you delete it, you will not be back to normal when you do a Hard reset.
Usually the Ext_rom is hiddn so no body touch it.
In case you want your Ext_rom to have some special program that will be loaded every time you do a format, you need to add the programs in the Ext_rom.
Look carfully in the Ext_rom and you will find a file called "config.txt".
You can open and read the config.txt file.
In this file you will see a list of commands in some order.
These comands are the programs that will be loaded or installed each time you have to do a format (Hard Reset)
I hope this give you some information.
Hi all,
Thanks for your kind reply. It give me a better understanding of what this is.
Is there anyway i can make it disappear or so called hidden it & not show under my memory storage? As mentioned, My extended Rom is shown whereas my frens XDA II & XDA IIs doesnt, both on original rom.

Resizing ROM to fit WM6

Dear All:
I just would like to understand the situation here.
after upgrading from wm5 i found that the storage memory is almost impossible to have any programs installed as it's very small.
here is what i have tried
on upgrading directly from wm5 to wm6 without hardreset:
1- storage memory is 8 MB ( i found out that somehow i have all programs that i used on wm5 and all other stored files still available)
2- contacts are still there
3- some programs are nor running
4- extremly slow
on upgrading directly from wm5 to wm6 with hardreset:
1- storage memory is up to 40 MB as i think clearing and formatting the hive removed all excess and uneeded files
2- much faster than before
anyhow my question remains the same do i need to resize capacity?
when installing programs the storage memory is drained on the device, do i need to resize to make which?
1- storage memory ? Program memory ?
2- if i do make it as storage mem 100 and progr memory 16 will it affect anything?
i just need the most space to install programs on the device as files can be added on memory card no problem.
will i need to downgrade to wm2003SE from wm5 or wm6 then use the tools privided on wiki (which is somehow questionable for me being a complete beginner) then resize the ROM and upgrade to wm6?
thanks guys, and thx helmi for a great ROM
Hard reset your device.

ROM to RAM transfer

Hello,
I have Qtek S200, I have 64 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM and 2 GB storage card.
It gives me 20MB free RAM. I want to know how can I transfer some MB's from my ROM size to RAM memory or use some space from my memory card to put in RAM place.
I know it was possible in Windows Mobile 2003 SE but I am on Windows Mobile 6.0
Please help me, or just tell me if there is a way I can use ROM or Storage card as RAM? it will help me a lot in running some really good applications.
Thanks a lot, badly waiting for answer!
Thanks,
FAISAL!
i have browsed into Prophet Forums as much as i can but i havent stumbled upon a certain topic concerning your proposal. what i would suggest is that there are some good programs out there that you can install in your device that can help you manage your RAM efficiently.
Since prophet isnt GIFTED with such huge RAM memory space i would recommend you the following programs to install in your device ( some of them might already be incorporated in your ROM if your using the ROMS provided by experts here in this Forum)
1. Hibernate (www.oxios.com)
2. ClearTemp by Vicott Wong
3. CleanRAM by HTCAddicts
i will attach number 2 and 3 files as CAB and its up to you how will you set it up on your device. maybe a regular schedule for these apps to run on your device..
good luck and hope this programs help since Prophet Devices arent gifted with so much RAMS like other HTC devices do..
Cheers,

whats the difference? a bit of a noob bear with me.

what is the difference between\main storage \ RAMdisk \ storage card to the ends of installing programs and it asking which i want to install too.
also what does it mean in the main memory settings screen how it is split between STORAGE and PROGRAM.
any pointers or links to explain a little i would be greatly thankfull
i,m running a xda II HIMALAYA
ramdisk is application mem taking away to make a virtuel disk this will be faster but lost at hardreset limited in size
main storage is flash storage on the device this is slower then ramdisk but will make it pass a hardreset limited in size
sd is slower but can be replaces
thankyou! a bit of knowledge can seem so easy to people who are not noobs like me.
i will get there in the end!
