Memory management on Jam... - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi guys!
Can someone explain me the memory allocation?
I installed sone apps, like PPCProfile-PRo/BatteriPro ecc..., on storage (is it ROM or RAM?) an Acrobat, TomTom ecc.. on StorageCard.
If go to system, memory info I can'd understand the screen... there's an orizzontal slide for sotrage memory and other tab.
I'm trying to move the slide but it comes back to the original posizion...
Can you guys explain me how to read/use this info?

cannot install anymore - no more free memory

hi ppl
i have a funny symptom here with my mda2.
i have 60mb free storage on my device, 32mb on my "internal" memory card and 70mb on my sd-card.
when i try to install a small application with 236k into the internal memory it says "can't install - no free memory" (=free translation to english from my german rom).
i just can't see why that happens ....
any ideas?
regards ize|man
Go into settings, then system and memory.
Here you should have a slider in middle of screen?
Check that your program and storage memory are balanced appropriately. If not you may need to adjust these

Extended_ROM

Hi all,
Need your advice. I just found that under the below memory i have an additional storage (Named Extended_ROM), it is 15.97MB & used 15.18MB, free only 0.79MB. Do you have any idea what is the storage for? Can I remove & free some memory? Thanks
I am currently on ROM 2.06. When i check with my pals, who is still at ROM 1.66, they do not have this additional Storage.
Start/Setting/System/Memory/Storage Card
I have 3 options
a. Storage Card (my 256MB SD card)
b. Extended_ROM (Dont know what this is)
c. Storage (Should be XDAII memory)
Rgds
This part of ROM (Read Only) is allocted for extra (region or operator) related bundle that is customizable to owners liking 8)
It is untouchable except that it is customizable :!:
You can add and remove from and to it just like your typical folders...for instance, the camera, album, operator based codes and other stuff are among the Ext_ROM
Hi
Ext_rom is the most important place when a Hard Reset (format) happen.
The Ext_rom has all the programs that is installed when a Hard Reset happen. So, if you delete it, you will not be back to normal when you do a Hard reset.
Usually the Ext_rom is hiddn so no body touch it.
In case you want your Ext_rom to have some special program that will be loaded every time you do a format, you need to add the programs in the Ext_rom.
Look carfully in the Ext_rom and you will find a file called "config.txt".
You can open and read the config.txt file.
In this file you will see a list of commands in some order.
These comands are the programs that will be loaded or installed each time you have to do a format (Hard Reset)
I hope this give you some information.
Hi all,
Thanks for your kind reply. It give me a better understanding of what this is.
Is there anyway i can make it disappear or so called hidden it & not show under my memory storage? As mentioned, My extended Rom is shown whereas my frens XDA II & XDA IIs doesnt, both on original rom.
Rgds

Please, please rom gurus...this idea can help everyone

Ok, plain and simple...if ya can change paging poll ya can change device storage...shrinking it...more program memory = less storage...has to be a rom for minisd`s owners...
I'm not a ROM Guru (so don't beat me in the head), but what exactly are you asking them to do? Shrink the paging file so there's is more RAM avalible? If so, how does that translate to more memory, but less storage? As in a WM5 device RAM is no longer used to store applications, no?
I'm just all confused and assuming the ROM Guru's would be too so i'm hoping you can clarify.
no, the paging file is already shrink in most modern roms, i mean the storage memory...the one that shows as internal storage...in my case i install allmost everithing in the minisd card so i have 33mb free of internal storage...i gladly give at least 16mb (or even 20mb) of that to have more program memory...
To be more specific:
settings - system - memory - main: move 16mb from the left to the right column...cant be more specific...

Click to collapse
..do you mean internal storage or main memory????
all your apps are probably installed to main memory... if the theme you wanna use must be in main memory, you should delete alot of apps from your main memory using settings>system>remove programs, and then reinstall them to storage card(or internal storage) that way you have more internal memory...
hope that helps
other wise, you can do a hard reset and put everything back on fresh and start installing to SD or internal storage.. (thats what i would do, just cuz its more fresh)
