My apartment building suffers from a poor GSM signal strength. "MyPhone" software shows it as low as 60% sometimes.
The problem is that, as I go up in the elevator, the phone disconnects, and then won't reconnect without me doing a soft reset! Clicking on the signal strength icon, it just says "Searching".
Anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to force the thing to reconnect with a low-strength signal? I never had this problem with my last (Nokia) mobile phone - same apartment.
Thanks,
Graham

How long did you wait until you softreset?
Normal it should reconnect within minutes..
Also what ROM are you using? What network? AIS DTAC Orange?
Im using DTAC on ROM1.11 and no problems here with reconnection.
What prompted me to write was that I think it had been "searching" for about 4 hours before I did the soft reset.
I'm with AIS.
ROM version 1.03.00 WWE
ROM date 11/01/04
Radio version 1.01.00
Protocol version 1337.38
ExtROM version 1.03.166 WWE

I have the UK T-mobile MDA Pro and am having all sorts of problems with the connection to T-mobile. If I am sat at home I get 1 or 2 bars (50-70% according to Hudson Phone Dashboard) and this is fine unless I ask the phone to do anything, open software, menu, etc.
In which case the signal strength disappears completely and then the phone sits for 1-2mins until it finds the signal again and the process then repeats...
Has anyone else seen this or do I have a defective unit??
Cheers
Andy
Mine sometimes switches between UTMS and GRPS if I try connecting to anything, but only if I'm in a ****e coverage area (mainly at work).
BTW, I don't suppose u have call timers working right on hudson phone dash with the MDA Pro?

Andy,
I had something that looks a little bit like it. The phone kept searching for a connection when trying to work wit MSN.
I put my phone settings on : settings/phone/band and set network type to GSM, when I am in Holland. So don't keep it on "auto"
When I am here in Romania however I can switch it back to auto and do not have the problem. It switches to the battrery consuming UMTS however. If I put it back on GSM it stays on GPRS however.
Huib
I have already tried setting the phone on Manual GSM - 1800... which improves the speed at which it reconnects but doesn't seem to eliminate the problem of the disconnections...
I know the signal isn't fantastic here but I have an old nokia 6210 with a tmobile payg sim in it and that always has 1-2 bars and has never lost it's signal...
I just tried putting it back on Auto... Then open messages and right on cue it lost the signal...
What do other people think? Does this sound faulty to you?
I have a standard HTC Trinity P3600, that was not shipped on any particular network.
It is running the following ROM:
ROM version: 1.15.405.5
ROM date: 10/23/06
Radio version: 1.20.00.11
Protocol version: 32.52.7020.00W
ExtROM version: 1.15.405.101
I am using my Vodafone UK Sim Card in it, and have a problem with the signal.
If I soft or hard reset the device, I get a "G" symbol showing that GPRS is available, and an almost full signal indicated on the signal strength icon.
After a couple of seconds, the "G" changes to "3G" and the signal strength goes lower, to 1 or 2 lines, and a second or so later the "3G" icon goes and it shows the two arrows and a cross symbol indicating that the "Connection is not active" and the signal strength shows that there is "No phone service". If I then reset the phone, it goes back to getting a signal and then loses it again.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try to do in order to resolve this problem please ?
Many thanks in advance.
Paul.
Just and update:
In the phone settings, if I set the Band to be the network type of GSM instead of Auto, then the "G" is displayed and the signal strength is 3 lines and doesn't drop out.
Thanks again for any advice.
Cheers,
Paul.
Most 3g phones first connect to the network thru GSM and then 3g could it be that you have a low 3g coverage in your area.
Thanks for the reply Sammis.
I would have thought that if it had a normal GSM signal, then switched to 3G but had no signal, that it should switch back down to normal GSM ?
I switched it back to Auto again this morning, and it looks to be working fine. Maybe Vodafone were having problems in my area with 3G ?
Cheers,
Paul.

I have noticed the same issue with my phone. I don't have the answer as to why this occurs, but I have done the same thing, switched the network type to GSM and my signal doesn't drop. It seems if I leave it on Auto, it is not stable... Could anyone shed some more light on this issue?
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Hi
I have a problem with my Universal that is difficult to pin down so let me describe the symptoms and if anybody can suggest anything then I would be grateful. I think that these symptoms are restricted to the UK T-Mobile network.
WM6 (or WM5 T-Mobile UK latest release)
ROM version: 2.05.00 WWE
Radio: 1.18.00
Protocol: 42.54.P8
ExtROM: Empty
Bootloader: 1.01
These are the symptoms:
1) When the phone goes out of service, it will not pick up the GSM signal without several hard-reboots when back in an area with reception.(It is configured to pick up only GSM on 1800) When it does find reception, it works fine as a phone if I don't move
2) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, bluetooth stereo streaming to my headphones does not work properly - I hear maybe 1 s of sound and then sound cuts out.If I cick stop and play in the player then I hear another 1s of sound.(I use Settings/Connections/Bluetooth, not Comm Manager, to turn on BT)
3) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, I cannot use the symbol at the top to see the phone status without the phone hanging completely
4) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, I cannot use Start/Settings/Phone without the phone hanging completely
5) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, I can access Start/Settings/System/Device Info _except_ for the hardware tab.
6) T-Mobile tell me that there are no blocks on my SIM, number or device
7) The phone works flawlessly with VF-UK and O2 (not tried 3) and picks up GSM reception immediately after coming back into an area with reception
I live in an area without T-Mobile signal so this is a real problem for me because I have to do several reboots each morning !!
Is there an application that tells me exactly what the GSM radio is doing and whether it has connected and then been forcibly disconected by the network ?
Is there an application that forcibly turns on and off the GSM radio without me using Settings / Radio or Comm Manager ?
All help welcome.
Peter
Hi,
I am not sure but It seems after upgrading your radio to 1.18.00 yr experiencing this prob.
Go to Setting>phone tab to Band on SELECT YOUR NETWORK TYPE put it on Auto from drop down list. restart your device.
If you still having prob then download again the Radio and install it because may be you have downloaded the radio is currupted
It's not the radio ROM that's the issue. Actually, 1.18 and WM6 seems to be the 'best' combination for finding the signal after a reboot. I've tried several radio ROMs (including the one released with the official T-Mobile updated WM5 ROM) and have the same issue with all of those.
Peter
Since upgrading to 1.18 I'm having problems that aren't solved when I revert to an earlier Radio ROM.
The main problem is it seems to be "UTMS or nothing", I used to use GSM only, but now when I switch to GSM only, my Universal does not display the little G symbol at the top, it shows some signal strength but then just has the no connection icon where the G should be (or where the U/3G is when not on GSM only).
Because of this, I cannot connect to the internet when on GSM only... it just keeps trying and trying with no success.
Any ideas?
weird - I have a P3600 from The Netherland which I brought to Italy. The phone worked fine with a Vodafone SIM. Recently I changed to TIM. As long as I have a good network signal Edge and 3G work as they should. However, whenever the signal gets poor and the phone switches to GPRS, I do not have any data nor phone connection (although the phone shows a strong GSM signal). As soon as the phone goes on EDGE the phone works again.
I already tried several Radio Roms. It looks like V. 1.56.70.11 is slightly improving the situation but in most cases I still cannot make calls and cannot be called.
Is this a SIM problem? Is there anybody in Italy who could tell me which ROM Versions TIM is using in their branded P3600?
Device info:
ROM version: 1.23.405.2
ExtROM: 1.23.405.103
Protocol: 32.83.7020.20H
Radio: 1.56.70.11
Any advice is welcome....
...likely it is only related to the poor TIM network coverage at my home. Strange is that my wife (she is using the same SIM from TIM) can make phone calls with her Nokia. It seems that the Trinity with the new radio rom is very sensitive to receive network signals but apparently the transmitting power is too low to connect (Trinity cares for your health http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) ....is there a way to boost the transmitting power or is it only controlled by the radio rom?
Hi all,
had a quick search but didn't see anything...
Anyone notice if their signal strength bar in the top taskbar shows a 'lower' level?
I transferred my o2 Sim from my Orbit 2 into the touch HD and immediatley it showed just 'one' signal bar on the meter.
I plugged in my 'other' pay as you go Sim into my Orbit 2 and that, as expected went to full signal strength - oh, yes, thats an o2 sim as well !
So I sit here, both devices in front of me and the HD showing one bar and my orbit2 showing full strength - same operator !
Is this something to do with the fact I've left the HD in some kinda Auto mode? ie it'll look for a 3G signal when it can and 'fallback' when it cant? i walked outside and saw the '3G' logo appear for the first time.
As I don't ever use 3G services (as yet) can I switch that off ?
cheers!

What radio version are you running? I think you will have to find a better working radio version, but I don't know if there are already options to change it.

I have the same problem. Sometimes 1-2 bar of strenght is not enough to make or recieve a call, so I switch to only GSM and now signal strenght is full.
Hi there
ROM 1.14.405.3 (22273) WWE
ROM date 10/24/08
Radio Version 1.09.25.14
Protocol Version 52.49a.25.26U
I've also just changed my Phone 'band' to GSM on network type and left Auto in select your GSM/UMTS band... now showing full signal strength.
So is it just a case of having a 'low' signal strength for 3G services in my area!?! that's kinda bit of a shame, seeing as I live within a mile of the O2 HQ offices!
Cheers!
