T-Mobile UK and turning Uni GSM radio on/off - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi
I have a problem with my Universal that is difficult to pin down so let me describe the symptoms and if anybody can suggest anything then I would be grateful. I think that these symptoms are restricted to the UK T-Mobile network.
WM6 (or WM5 T-Mobile UK latest release)
ROM version: 2.05.00 WWE
Radio: 1.18.00
Protocol: 42.54.P8
ExtROM: Empty
Bootloader: 1.01
These are the symptoms:
1) When the phone goes out of service, it will not pick up the GSM signal without several hard-reboots when back in an area with reception.(It is configured to pick up only GSM on 1800) When it does find reception, it works fine as a phone if I don't move
2) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, bluetooth stereo streaming to my headphones does not work properly - I hear maybe 1 s of sound and then sound cuts out.If I cick stop and play in the player then I hear another 1s of sound.(I use Settings/Connections/Bluetooth, not Comm Manager, to turn on BT)
3) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, I cannot use the symbol at the top to see the phone status without the phone hanging completely
4) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, I cannot use Start/Settings/Phone without the phone hanging completely
5) Until the phone finds a gsm signal, I can access Start/Settings/System/Device Info _except_ for the hardware tab.
6) T-Mobile tell me that there are no blocks on my SIM, number or device
7) The phone works flawlessly with VF-UK and O2 (not tried 3) and picks up GSM reception immediately after coming back into an area with reception
I live in an area without T-Mobile signal so this is a real problem for me because I have to do several reboots each morning !!
Is there an application that tells me exactly what the GSM radio is doing and whether it has connected and then been forcibly disconected by the network ?
Is there an application that forcibly turns on and off the GSM radio without me using Settings / Radio or Comm Manager ?
All help welcome.
Peter

Hi,
I am not sure but It seems after upgrading your radio to 1.18.00 yr experiencing this prob.
Go to Setting>phone tab to Band on SELECT YOUR NETWORK TYPE put it on Auto from drop down list. restart your device.
If you still having prob then download again the Radio and install it because may be you have downloaded the radio is currupted

It's not the radio ROM that's the issue. Actually, 1.18 and WM6 seems to be the 'best' combination for finding the signal after a reboot. I've tried several radio ROMs (including the one released with the official T-Mobile updated WM5 ROM) and have the same issue with all of those.
Peter

Since upgrading to 1.18 I'm having problems that aren't solved when I revert to an earlier Radio ROM.
The main problem is it seems to be "UTMS or nothing", I used to use GSM only, but now when I switch to GSM only, my Universal does not display the little G symbol at the top, it shows some signal strength but then just has the no connection icon where the G should be (or where the U/3G is when not on GSM only).
Because of this, I cannot connect to the internet when on GSM only... it just keeps trying and trying with no success.
Any ideas?

TIM SIM - phone does not work with GPRS

weird - I have a P3600 from The Netherland which I brought to Italy. The phone worked fine with a Vodafone SIM. Recently I changed to TIM. As long as I have a good network signal Edge and 3G work as they should. However, whenever the signal gets poor and the phone switches to GPRS, I do not have any data nor phone connection (although the phone shows a strong GSM signal). As soon as the phone goes on EDGE the phone works again.
I already tried several Radio Roms. It looks like V. 1.56.70.11 is slightly improving the situation but in most cases I still cannot make calls and cannot be called.
Is this a SIM problem? Is there anybody in Italy who could tell me which ROM Versions TIM is using in their branded P3600?
Device info:
ROM version: 1.23.405.2
ExtROM: 1.23.405.103
Protocol: 32.83.7020.20H
Radio: 1.56.70.11
Any advice is welcome....
...likely it is only related to the poor TIM network coverage at my home. Strange is that my wife (she is using the same SIM from TIM) can make phone calls with her Nokia. It seems that the Trinity with the new radio rom is very sensitive to receive network signals but apparently the transmitting power is too low to connect (Trinity cares for your health http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) ....is there a way to boost the transmitting power or is it only controlled by the radio rom?

GPRS but no 3G

I have searched this forum for 3 weeks now but have not found an answer to my problem.... forgive me if it is here somewhere.
I have a pola200 running the official O2 WM6.1 ROM including the 1.59.42.15 radio. I have a vodafone SIM with full data enabled and am certain the internet settings are correct. I know the SIM works as I have tried it in another phone.
However, I can only connect to GPRS when using GSM as the band setting on the phone. As soon as I select Auto as the band setting and try to connect a data or voice call the signal drops and the connection fails.
I know that the phone is picking up a HSPDA or 3G signal as the icon changes but as soon as I try to connect to the internet or make a voice call I get a Dialed: internet -
I have tried all available Polaris radio ROMs and also tried loading udK's Diamond R8 ROM as I thought O2 may have loaded something to stop it working. Nothing has worked.
Any ideas?
Simple question, you probably have but, have you run the Connection Wizard and is the SIM card 3G compatible because my Vodafone SIM card isn't.
I have run the connection wizard and the SIM is certainly 3G compatible - it works in other 3G phones.
Hmm, then I'm stumped. Sorry I can't be of help.

Polaris Radio problem solved!!

Hi,
If your polaris having radio problem after flashing with any custom ROM (or even default) and setting the radio to Murata radio, then you can try the following solution.
The problem may include:
- you have strong GSM signal but you cannot make a call ( for example 1 success out of 10 trials)
- you cannot receive any call (dropping call) not on purpose.
- The battery power drains quickly (..few hours till a half day.)
- The GSM signal is not stabile (strong but kept frequently searching again for signal).
I have tried many ways, from flashing to original ROM and set to any Murata radios, but the problem still presists. Then I did the following.
1. Flash the polaris with any original ROM
2. Flash the polaris radio with the latest official radio version ( I just used the one that included with the official rom that I downloaded from http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=59&cat=2&dl_id=113)
3. When the phone is ready, go to the setting, the phone, and then the service. From there you will have two questions, then select the first question, and choose GSM instead of auto, leave the second question intact i.e. "auto".
4. Your phone will reset its GSM connection, and then just wait. It will display "G" next to the reception bar. Then you can test by making a call or receiving a call.
5. If you still have problem, try to disable the HSPDA or any 3G services.
In my case I have T-mobile, where in Europe it is claimed to work perfectly. Learning from IPhone 3g problem in US, where Apple and T-Mobile tried to blame each other, and looking back to "poor HTC support" I could suspect that HTC has not provided the (old) Polaris with "the right" 3G driver.
I hope it helps. Let me know.

I'm sorry I do not quite understand here ...flash official ROM and official radio? then what? can I then flash any cooked ROM? or ported radio from other device? Thanks.
i have an official rom 1.40.466.1 WWE with Radio rom 1.58.25.21 and also i had this radio and low signal problem since i got the phone, never had a good signal at home.
tried to set the band in phone settings to GSM as you said not AUTO and it worked like a charm. thanks a lot
Hi Deepthroat,
I just did it with the official ROM, (ROM version 3.13.405.0 WWE, Radio version 1.59.42.15). However, some reactions confirm that it also works for any custom ROM and Murata-radio. Honestly, I have not tried to any other combination, just give it a try on your current configuration.
Thus, you can skip step 1 and step 2. Just minor correction on step 3, you go to Settings, choose Phone, and choose tab Band (not service as previously posted), choose "GSM" on the "Select your network type", and leave "Auto" for the "Select your GSM/UMTS band" and finally OK.
In my case, now I still have my polaris battery fairly full even after one day. Before the battery already dropped to 50% or less in after one day.
Please confirm if it works, you will save a lot of desperate polaris owners....
thanks
I can confirm the band tab change: network type from auto to gsm and gsm/umts to umts 900+1200 + gsm 900+1800 as a solution to battery drain and poor signal related problems as written on the first post.
I'm using gullum's latest rom TF2D III with the latest radio rom 1.59.44.02.
My reception is excellent, GPS works good and battery drain is not dreadful.
About the fact that 3G is letting the battery drain very quickly.
This is not a problem, but it's just the way 3G works. 3G just requires more battery power to function.

I stand corrected, however I was referring to users who do not take advantage of 3G capabilities.

I bought the polaris at vietnam and then I used it at Indonesia using Telkomsel as carrier. before I have bad signal also after upgraded the rom to the 6.1 it became good reception for GSM connection but when I need to use the 3G/HSDPA connection there is no signal. (using Band selection )
I already upgraded the RADIO to 1.59.44.02 and the problem still the same..
could anyone help to give info how to activate the 3g connection ?

As I understood, Telkomsel Indonesia has a deal with Siemens to implement 3G/W-CDMA(or popular with UMTS) but not yet HSPDA (http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/...n-contract-set-3gwcdma-network-telkomsel.html). The 3G/ HSPDA allows networks based on UMTS to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity, however not all countries have implemented it (this is commonly termed as 3.5G network). So I guess in that case, you should set the band setting tab, Networktype to "GSM" and Select your GSM/UMTS band to the one suitable to your operator.
The problem with current polaris radio is that it is still not efficient to distinguish GSM and W-CDMA networks that leads to many side-problems (stability, quick battery drain, not working camera and etc). Though, I have not tried, some of friends claimed that polaris can support perfectly video call. So you have to work hard to find the right setting for your net. provider.
goodlucks

Oh ok, now I understand the relation between the battery drain and GSM band selection mode. I will try it Thanks for sharing with us.

thanks for quick answer..
Actually I just want to use video call. Oh...very sad to hear that..
so do you think it's the polaris inherent problem that we can't do anything..?
I just try all setting..and I try also other operator like Indosat and proxl and the problem is same.
When I set the Band selection to W-CDMa or auto, sometimes After soft reset, polaris detect the 3G network but in 3 second dismiss and change to GSM network in most of the time just no signal.
everything is ok when I select the GSM only.
so no other option ?
thanks

If I were you, I will do the following:
Telkomsel requireshttp://www.telkomsel.com/web/info_3g, in Indonesian)
1. your phone is 3g (fulfilled by polaris)
2. You have registered to 3g service
3. You are in the area where 3g is supported
4. You have sufficient 3g signal.
In addition, Telkomsel uses 3G / UMTS / WCDMA / 2100 MHz. So if you have met the requirements, just set "GSM" and "GSM+UMTS 2100" in your polaris band tab (phone setting) and don't forget to enable the HSPDA in connection tab. If it does not work, reflash your radio rom to latest official release:1.59.42.15.
If it still does not work try to use 3g service in another supported handset (nokia or ericsson), if it works then it is the time to sell your polaris (just kidding!!!).
goodluck!!

[q] htc hd2 signal problems

I have the following problem, when I power on my HTC HD2 sometimes does not detect a signal with two different SIM with two different providers. At other times it detect the signals with both SIM. If signal is detected after a time it loses signal (voice and data) and sometimes the signal return after a few minutes, in other cases it is necessary to reset the device. When I reset the device is no guarantee it will function, is a very random problem, both SIM work on another old device (no hd2) without problems. Normally, when it detect signal I can make calls, and after a few minutes the device can not make calls, falls silent and after a while you hear a busy tone, nor are incoming calls.
What could be damaged?
Hello,
Does this happen anywhere or always in teh same area?
From my side, I have a lot of problem to have some signal but I realized it was because my area was far from an antenna (even if being in a big town).
If you problem happens anywhere then, I would recommend to flash your radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
Hello.
I have a similar problem - sometimes i also lose my signal. At first i thought that it was random but then i discovered that i have good 3G signal but when i go somewhere where there is only 2G i have no service. this also happens every time it try to switch to "2G only".
I started noticing it after flashing Hyperdroid 3.0 NAND android on my phone in the place of Hyperdroid 1.04 (although i'm not sure it has anything to do with the NAND rom). I have tried flashing many different radios (2.08, 2.12, 2.15) and also different roms - both android and also the original WM6,5 rom.
If anybody could suggest something i would be very grateful.

[Q] Network type AUTO and WCDMA not working...

Hi guys,
I have searched all over the forum and cannot find an answer to this question so apologies if I missed it.
My HD2 (Leo) suddenly lost the network signal. Couldn't connect to my operator - no phone calls or internet. Tried to soft reset and left the batteries out for a while... none worked.
After some research, I found out that my Network Type (originally set to Auto) can find the EDGE signal if I manually switch the band to GSM. Otherwise (AUTO or forced WCDMA) I come back to a useless phone (no phone calls, no internet) still missing the operator's signal.
What could be possibly going on? I have stock ROM and Radio (below) and do not remember to make anything different to change network settings... phone's been working like a charm for almost a year and a half before that!
Thank you very much in advance for any clarification!
Regards!
