Does anybody know what situations Orangecare (Uk) will replace next day a covered phone?
in the past few times i've needed to (years ago) they always swapped out but i cant remember the reasons i needed to.
I've heard from freinds that recently they've had to call orangecare and they have had to send their phones off to be repaired. I dont really want to be without the phone
my m1000 currently has no bluetooth (not worked since had it) and the power connector thing at the bottom is very loose and is very tricky to get my gps / usb dock to make a connection.
anyone?
I have used then once and no problem at all, i could not receive text messages, and got a replacement and the same happend, upgraded my rom to 2003SE and all worked fine after that.
So the phone was fine, just had an old version of the rom that was crap
See their site:
http://www2.orange.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=OUKPersonal/Service&cid=1096023565198
They claim a new phone within 24 hours. It couldn't be any bigger. So you don't have to accept anything less than a replacement. Especially now there's a £15+VAT admin fee.
However, they MIGHT try and give you a different phone as a temporary replacement while they phone yours. Whether you choose to accept it or not is upto you depending on what features you need/want and what they'll provide.
I've (thankfully) only had to claim on Orange care twice in about 5 years, but everytime it came next day without fail (even arrived on a Sunday!)
Best thing to do is simpy ring them. You don't incur any penalty by just asking.

Could you please advise me where I can download a upgrade to for 2003SE for the Orange M1000? Thanks.
The version that was on the orange website was the same as in the phone when supplied, so i downloaded from here.

Hi all,
After spending 2 days with my vario my dreams of a half-decent smartphone are shattered.
I've got a C500 which hasnt really caused me any problems in over a year, now 2 days after having a vario i'm almost pulling my hair out.. can this phone possibly have been released in such a bad state or is it just mine?
For starters it crashes, not now and then, but like it's a hobby of the vario's, i dont think i can leave it for an hour, come back and find it hasn't hung in some form.
Sometimes i have to do a soft reset, sometimes, i can press the power button, get the screen to light up but can't do anything. Sometimes I get icons but when I click them i'm told the shortcut doesnt exist.
Ooh another thing it seems to like doing is randomly going into flight mode, and one really good crash was when i called it and the source phone could hear the ringing but the vario was just sitting there doing nothing.
So is it just mine or is this the most unstable phone the UK has ever seen? Is it worth me asking for a replacement, or just flashing the k-jam/qtek rom over the t-mobile one? Is there a way to backup my t-mobile rom and flash it back should i find the qtek/kjam rom does the same?
I've tried hard-resetting then cancelling all the t-mobile gubbins that loads from extended rom, but that didnt make any diference.
Any advice gratefully appreciated
Thanks
Personally, I'd say get T-Mobile to replace it! Unless you've installed a buggy piece of 3rd party software (but if you did, you wouldn't on here complaining about the phone you'd be complaining about the software, right?).
I also have an MDA Vario. I haven't touched the Extended_ROM (was going to, had a look and decided it was running fine so don't mess with it).
It's solid as a rock. As per a thread on howardforums asking how many times per day have I soft-resetted the phone and my answer was an average of zero.
I hard reset it on the day I bought it (after installing GPRS Monitor which knackers the backlight turning back on after sleep) and took the battery out after T-Mobile decided to disconnect me from their network (at their support line's request).
Anyway, it's on 24/7, never needs a reset of any kind, gets mobile emails via ActiveSync and is generally a wonderful piece of kit!
List what apps you've installed (even if they're T-Mobile supplied ones from CD) since buying the phone as there may be something buggy there. If not, definitely get T-mobile to replace it as it's certainly not a crap model (mine is absolutely fantastic).
Thanks Andy,
I've literally not installed anything, i'm just about to install pocketcommander but that will be the first thing i've actually installed. I've hard reset the phone this morning and it's already hung once on me (
I'll give tmob a call and see if they can send me another out today or something
Yeah, then you've definitely got a knackered phone. They should replace it (how long have you had it) without problems.
Hope you enjoy the replacement, they really are a great bit of kit
Well just had my first ever dealings with tmobile supoprt and it's as bad as the phone
They say because my contract/phone is only 3 days old i need to go back to the people i bought the phone off to get a replacement, problem is they'l want me to send the whole boxed thing uip and all the box etc is at home since i work away during the week
That's got to be faulty, like others have said.
WHen I bought mine, (T-Mobile shop in Leeds), I was told that if it was faulty within the first 28 days, there'd be a straight replacement issued immediately.
Don't accept anything less.
For what it's worth, I always try to be exceptionally pleasant when returning things rather than going in "all guns blazing"; it gets results a lot more often than the "I know my rights" approach. Of course, when it all comes down to it, the "i know my rights" approach might be necessary, but hopefully it shouldn't be.
The phone is superb, so stick with it even tho it is a bit of hassle for you.
good luck!
hi there no problems with my vario either. seems to work fine. no soft/ hard resets needed so far. have had it for 10 days. only thing is after the xteended rom instals there is a file called canned text in words which opens up in a crazy language. does not go on hard resets. but does not cause a problem either. any ideas on what this file is. have othar vario users noticed this file. please help.

may not be relevant to your problem, but if skype is installed on yours from the hard reset install, it may be worth removing, on the k-jam as soon as i removed skype, reseting stopped happening
Hey All
I'm on my 5th phone from Orange. The latest one arrived today. I've had one with screen alignment problems and 3 that after a month or so making a piecing noise when the display is on. Off the 4 I've had previously only one of them seemed to be stable. All sorts of hangs with frequent software resets. Also it always seems to try and use a 3G connection when it has wireless. If you soft reset and try again it doesn't use the 3G and will use wireless. This is without installing any custom software but using a memory card. Had one that wouldn't always sync with XP and when I went to Vista refused to work. Just seems like hardware/software is poor quality
Driving me mad/nuts. Any suggestions. Orange has offered to swap to a different phone but I can't live without the functionality. I don’t hold much hope for my latest one either.
Anyone have any ideas when Orange is releasing new firmware?
HTC were due to distribute a new european ROM at the end of January, but not sign yet. This would then be customised by the network providers orange Tmobile etc.
You can always upgrade your ROM with the latest from HTC (1.35), which i have done on my M3100 with no ill effects. Since the upgrade it seems to run a bit quicker, plus you do not get all the orange branding on it. Have a look at the WIKI page for full instructions.
I've thought long and hard about doing that. However Orange has said if I did this and have another fault with a phone they won't replace it. I would have to claim under insurance. Bearing in mind I'm on my 5th phone I think this would be a problem. Most of the reasons why I've had my phone replaced are hardware issues (piercing noises with display on, no sync, screen alignment) Because I can't go back to an orange Rom I’d be a bit stuck. (How close is the Orange Romanian Rom to the UK Orange original Rom?)
Don’t get me wrong the software is buggy but I can live with it (just). I wondered if a Rom would also help with some of the hardware glitches to....

I'm like you. I daren't change the rom until there is an orange rom available to revert to.
Actually my device is stable and works well, but then I do a lot of housekeeping to avoid unecessarily stressing the device (including regular resets).
I too have an Orange UK M3100, in the first month I had 3 replacements: screen alignment x2, faulty camera. Since I got my 4th unit I have had no problems, I have a fair amount of software running on it, as the above post I regularly tidy it up but only reset it about 2-3 times per week. I understand how frustrating it is, I cursed my impatience for not waiting for the p990's release as I had a p900 and p910 but now I absolutely love the M3100 and am so glad I stuck with it, especially seeing all the problems my mates are having with their p990s.
For what it's worth, if Orange are prepared to replace it again without using your Orange Care insurance, I'd try again, cross your fingers and hope that you get a bug-free unit. Tell Orange you want a brand new replacement and not a refurb.
However, I doubt Orange will release a ROM update for some time, if at all.
i never ever have any problem on my m3100 from orange uk
using outlook msn skype and balaa balaa with my wilress internet
not even 1 fone
we got update from orange 2 fones
just now upgrading rom 1,23 to 1,24

I also belong a M3100. At first I lost plenty of my hair figuring how to get it working at least correctly. Now it is allmost perfect!
I tested plenty of roms; and at last my favorite is the Orange Romania; it is at least as fast as the SA 1.35 and seems more stable. Standby recovery with wifi is faster, bluetooth detection *seems* more stable, dialer skin match the vista theme, wifi *handshake* improved (I had to disable/enable the wifi more often with the SA rom to get it connected to my home network).
So, if I were you I would stick on the orange ROM. The only reason I changed my rom is that I really wanted an english one; localised versions get me sick.
What I did to get my phone working:
-Changed the default case (and its awfull magnet) to another one magnet free (it solved my "auto answer" issue)
-I managed to install only the software I need:
-SPB Pocketplus
-SPB GPS Mon
-MSN for WM2002-2003 (far faster/stable than the WM5 one!)
-TCPM
-HTC X-Button
@uhk: I would be very interested in your rom update; where can I find it? I found nothing on orange's site
do u have a link or smthng for the msn messenger?
Hi everybody,
I have an 02 xda mini s and I cannot make or receive any phone calls. I was given it by a friend almost brand new. I put a Vodafone sim in it and for the first few weeks it worked fine and I could make and recieve phone calls no problems. All of a sudden, for no apparent reason, I couldn't do either. I can send and receive text messages fine however. One other thing to add is when trying to make a phone call, it goes to ring out as usual, but at the point of when a phone would normally ring it cuts out and you can hear 3 very faint tinny sounding beeps. It is very irritating as it is excellent at everything else but I just cannot use it as a phone
I would be very, very grateful to anyone that could help.
P.S I have noticed on several forums there have been similar question with no responses, perhaps this is something quite rare or unheard of.
It could either be a hardware or a software problem. Have you tried backing everything up and doing a hardreset and seeing if that solves the problem?

Hi, yes I have done several hard resets. I have tried different sims from different companies to no affect. However once in a blue moon and by pure chance it works again and I can make phone calls but it doesn't last long.
It sounds like a hardware problem then, I'm not familiar with the Wizard's internals, but it could be either a loose connection on the motherboard or just a component dying. If it's either of those things, someone on these boards might be able to sell you a replacement, but you'll have to take the thing apart, which most likely means ending up with more screws then you started with.

Cheers for that, I doubt i'll take it apart though it will end up with more than a few screws left over if I do it, I am am danger when it comes to electrics. Even if I did I wouldn't know what to look for. I'll see if I kind find someone more electrical minded than me to do.
Ta.

Alright, good luck. From your last goodbye, I'm just going to assume you're from the UK, you could try taking it to an 02 store and seeing if they can do anything to help you. You're not a customer of theirs, so they will most likely tell you to go away, but it is worth a shot.

Yeah I am from the U.K. I could take it to them no probs, probably won't be cheap though. If needs be I could always stick and 02 chip in there or find someone with a contract o2 chip.
If needs be there must be a phone repair shop nearby, London is a pretty big place .
My luck has been mixed with phone repair shops, but I've only been one or two times to one of the mall kiosk style ones. If it turns out getting it replaced is a no go, I'd suggest selling your current Wizard on ebay, and then turning around and buying a fully functioning unlocked one.

Yeah its an idea. Cheers Matey.
I have almost exactly the same problem, 3 faint beeps when trying to make a call.
The phone I have is a T-mobile MDA Compact that has been network unlocked.
The problem is that it is unable to make or receive normal calls. The symptoms vary across networks, with vodafone being the most functional. The symptoms are as follows.
----
Tesco Mobile: - no service.
----
T-Mobile: Connects to network and shows a signal, but no call functions work.
----
vodafone: Connects to network, shows a signal, can send and receive text messages, can make 999 calls.
Can't make or receive normal calls:
When trying to dial out the display goes from "dialing" to "call ended" and three quiet beeps can be heard, the dialed phone never rings.
If called from BT landline the caller simply hears "Error" and callers from other mobile phones hear a variety of different tones (engaged, beeps etc, varies with different phones)
If the phone is switched off, the callers get the usual "the phone you are calling is not available" message.
------
The phone has a CheckMend certificate to show that it is not lost or stolen, and T-Mobile have confirmed that the IMEI is not barred on their network.
While attempting to fix this:
I have reflashed the phone with several ROMs, run the unlocker several times and updated the radio from 1.12 to 1.13, but the original problem remains unchanged.
I have e-mailed HTC support with my symptoms but as yet have received no reply.
Big Big Big F*****g Problem
Hi, can anybody help me. I have f....d my XDA mini s, i need a WM6 rom XM6r3 on SD card, i cant acces my ACTIVE SYNC. Pls send me a link with these ROM.
Could you elaborate on what the issue is a bit more? I believe the issue is most likely that you have "ADvanced Network Functionality" checked in USB-PC settings under connections. Try unchecking that and seeing if you can then connect.
OK, I know that may look like a dumb question (and maybe it is!!!)
I have just unlocked my Vario 2 using the "Pof" method with both Sim and SuperCID.
Problem is, my phone needs to be sent back (long story - but basically I am getting a replacement Vario 3). Now obviously I am concerned they will tell me "sorry youve been playing with your phone sonny - its no longer under warrenty", so need to get it back to factory settings if I can.
I appreciate a hard reset will basically wipe any files I have, contacts and settings etc, but will this remove the unlocks that have been done? ie It really does go back to factory settings - or do these unlocks stay on there?
I have been searching the forum and WIKI, but not found the solution. I did think I would need to install a T-Mobile Rom - but all I could find was a hungarian version - which whilst in English, would probably look worse than as I currently have it!
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT:
For the record, if it makes any difference:
ROM Version 1.21.110.3
Rom Date 06/19/06
Radio version 1.16.00.00
Herm300 IPL-1.01
SPL 1.40.0lipro
a hard reset simply formats the internal drive on the phone and resets it to the factory settings.
generally t mobile wont bother looking at things like that, i unlocked my vario, dropped it, it smashed, they just replaced it after trying to repair it.
A few people have flashed new roms and bricked it, sent it back, tmobile are none the wiser, they are probably unaware people to this to their handsets!
we are all just stupid customers as far as they are concerned!
personally i wouldnt worry about it!

OK thanks for that. So I assume a hard reset will not over write anything regarding the bootloader radio change and unlocks? I appreciated that it resets the OS - hence the question.
I agree that they probably wouldnt in most cases look into the phone and check, but they have put a note on my account about "charging if not found faulty".
The problem I have been getting is missing calls - even if I am in a strong signal area. I actually work at Waterloo Railway station - and I would doubt too many places would get a better signal! An incoming call is made, my phone doesnt ring and the caller gets a single ring, then nothing. From what I can now gather, this may be to do with the cell shaking hands but not really being connected. ie the phone/cell are duping each other. This appears to be a 3G issue (so is probably likely to still be there on exchange.) Now the silly thing I have noticed; the phone seemed fine until I got web'n'walk put back on and the problem happens once I have been online. Strangely at the moment, I dont think the problem is persisiting (ie Im not aware of missing calls - though of course thats difficult to quantify unless someone tells me!)
Anyway - I have a feeling they will be looking more into this phone as this replacement will be my 5th! (The previous had similar problems with calls being made or incoming that would just fall over before being answered and the signal being completely lost when it was happening. Slightly different this time - but sound related!)
So will there be a way to put it back to being locked and the correct bootloader etc being shown?
Many thanks
I had the same problem with rejected and dropped calls, tmobile couldnt care less from what i learned or are unaware of the problem! try this
1. lock the phone to gsm only (this solved it pretty much straight away)
2) remove the voicemail from your account
3) If you are using gprs data, you will rarely get a phone call through, and by using it i mean looking at web pages or having programs update in the background.
Downgrading the bootloader is way above my head so i wouldnt like to advise.
As regard to relocking the phone to the network, i dont think thats possible, in any event, why would they check the simlock if the phone is having problems with calls!
If its your fifth handset, you should be looking at changing the model at least because thats ridiculous.
It sounds like a network issue rather than a handset problem!

Yeh, the problems on this phone didnt start until I began using the net again. They did suggest switching off 3G, but since I bought the phone specifically on the promise of a fast connection and HSPDA speeds, that really is an unacceptable solution! I appreciate that signal varies etc - but if a central location where I work isnt good enough, then T-Mobile really shouldnt be advertising themselves as a 3G network!
As it happens, voicemail was switched off on the account. It got put back on again a week ago - and sods law - things now seem to be working, though internet speeds are still very slow.

When I phoned, I was just looking to get a repair, but it was them that offered a Vario 3 which I accepted. It was agreed for them to be sending the set to me (last Thursday) but all that arrived was a grey bag to send my old one back. I spoke with them at great length again last night and suggested a straight courier swap so I wasn't without a phone. They went through to their repair department, who have now flatly refused the phone change - despite it being agreed already!
Anyway I spoke to another manager who went through my "book" of notes and quoted the sale of goods act and merchandisable quality thing and he has agreed they really have to address this. He is phoning me back today and he did come across as helpful and reasonable. (The second one in 2 weeks - must be a record!!!)
I do agree though, that this issue is likely to be the network and not the phone. I would really love to use O2 as at work and home I get 100% coverage and never had any problems at all - but I ain't paying their data rates! Maybe 3 will be ok - but again, when I had them a few years back, at home they were dire so never bothered again. But one thing is pretty certain, in 5 months time, T-Mobile will be history unless they make amends in a big way and these problems become non existant.
Thanks for your help..... its appreciated.
I have flashed my three mobile to the latest .184 release, and just before doing this I used flashtools to make a backup. Somewhat stupidly I went ahead and flashed without checking if my backup actually works, I have checked since and it just tells me to unplug and turn on debugging etc (they are both on).
Has anybody got an original three firmware they can upload in case I need it - since doing this I have also noticed problems with wifi tethering so it might need sending back
If no one can help (if anyone can it would still be appreciated), can anyone tell me if it will cause me problems getting my phone repaired.
Although I originally flashed the .184 update uploaded here I have since run a SEUS reinstall so technically the firmware is 100% official SE generic firmware. Will this mean it will be fixed as all they will know is that it is their software on.
I had some worrying news when I asked in a carphone warehouse repair center today, the engineer (I have doubts they actually hire engineers) told me if he finds I have changed the software he is required to inform SE themselves the phone details and have the warranty voided. This was after actually telling him that I had changed it though, and he might have been thinking custom - I also didn't explain the SEUS update that means it is completely official.
Anyone any advice? I definitely have a hardware problem that needs fixing so I am desperate now.
from what I remember the only difference was the bootscreen and the three app and a couple of games I doubt you will have any major problems. I'm pretty sure the main thing they didn't like with debranded firmware was you could set it to just use the Orange network which cost them more money, but now they are 3G only...
With WIFI tethering try changing the name of the hotspot I couldn't get it to connect at all, changed the name and it worked fine.
Thanks for the suggestion, I just tried renaming but it has the same problem. I can connect for 2 minutes then it stops working and needs turning off and on. It is identicle no matter what I do; after using SEUS or restaring the phone. I am pretty sure it is a hardware problem now (it seems unlikely to be software otherwise more people would have this exact problem). I'm also having problem connecting to wifi while out that I didn't notice untill I started using it more.
Ill give it a couple of days to see if anyone gets hold of the three firmware just in case (I don't want to give them a reason to try and screw me around, I like the plan and unlimited internet but their CS is abysmal sometimes), I will just go for it and send it back if not.
How long have you had the phone? I got mine switched over about a week after I got it because the camera had a problem. I have actually in general had some great customer service from them over the last couple of years they even just refunded me £40 of internet data usage because they did not explain it to me properly (One plan didn't start for a month apparently :/).
Good luck though hopefully they will just swap it over if they have some in stock. Make sure you take everything you got back in order to get an exchange.
Just over a week - got it on the 26th. The problem is I upgraded over the phone and had some problems then with overcharging, this is when I found out that the shops don't like dealing with phone customers and would not help me at all. Maybe they will be more accommodating for a hardware problem - or maybe if I refuse to leave until they behave like I am the one paying £40 a month to the company whos shop I am standing in I will get some service (Im actually getting prematurely angry lol).
Ill give the store a go first if I can't find the fw soon.
Thanks,
