I've setup POP3 but have no idea how to setup hotmail. Is this possible? When I've tried it's asked for Outgoing mail info and incoming mail info - but thats for pop3 right?
Has anyone done this before?
You have to install a program called HTTP Mail Provider.
In settings, enter hotmail (or msn if your address is @msn) for both incoming and outgoing mail.
Please tell me more about setting up hotmail in XDA - I have found the software and downloaded it to my laptop, however the 6x files are unreconised by my laptop, theres no setup.exe for example? Can you give me some more info please?
Thanks
HTTPMail Provider
HTTPMail Provider
1- Get the software from www.pocketgear.com
2- After installing it on your device, open the inbox and set a new account
3- Follow the steps. Once you reach step 4, choose HTTP for Account type
4- In step 5, enter hotmail for both incoming and outgoing mail if your addres is @hotmail, or msn fot both if your address is @msn
That's it
Use pocket MSN. They make a hotmail inbox in pocket outlook for you

Pocket MSN looks great but it could be pricey.
I have istalled the "HTTPMail Provider 1.0", however I keep getting this error when trying to connect..
Inbox
Unspecified error
(80004005
Error Source: Connection Manager
Status: Connecting
I then click OK and find that I need to try again. When I do log in again, Pocket PC just shows me that I'm loggin on and when I go to disconnect as it takes forever, my inbox crashes!!! I then close my inbox and open it again, and after quite a few minutes of waiting I get this error...
Inbox
The operation timed out
(80042002)
Error Souce: HTTP
Status: Logging on.
I don't know if this is a problem but I have not setup my HTTP access, only POP3 and MSN messenger. Can anyone help please?
Can't send mail
Even if I mention hotmail in outgoing server, it still doesn't send mail successfully. It's kinda wierd but my GPRS service provider do not have any SMTP server fot users. I get the following error when sending mail though HttpMail... "One or more arguments are invalid (80070057), Error Source: MAPI, Status: Sending outgoing messages". Please anybody help...
First connect to GPRS using your Pocket PC internet connection
then open inbox and start send and receive
OK I managed to fix the problem - I changed my connection from Work to Internet. however, I have another querry for those who know about this. I have set my hotmail account options to automatically connect and check email every 15 minutes but it says this...
Note that connecting automatically may result in higher connection charges.
Now I understand that my connection is through GPRS which I've been told you only pay for downloading data and do not pay for connection or time spent connected. Can anyone please confirm this is true because I don't want a huge bill at the end of the month!
Thanks again
Paul.
Well, we are discussing another problem, here.
I don't know about O2, but, usually, GPRS is sold by packages of total amount of download (40MB, 80MB, ...) per month, and not according to time use.
So, if you have a GPRS subscription, time does not count. Actually, you can keep your phone always connected.
When you add a new modem connection (using Start/Settings/Connections), in the modem selection, do you have a Cellular line (GPRS) available ?
ps: When you say you receive e-mail headers, is it by e-mail or by SMS ?
I recieve my emails by GPRS
Regarding email header this is just a cropped email limiting the download to about 2K. My network O2 allows me to download up to 100K free, after that they charge per Mb of data or I can buy discounted packages to save money. I just want to make sure theres no connection charge for always staying connected and retrieving my email every 15 minutes!
Yes I have Cellular line (GPRS) available.
It doesn't matter if you connect every hour or 15 minutes or stay connected all the time. What makes the difference is the amount of kb you are downloading each time you send and receive e-mail. Probably, whether you are receiving usual pop3 or HTTP, they are all part of the 100k package or whatever. So if you limit your messages to headers only, you would be saving a lot. But even if you exceed your package limit, it must not be expensive. In my country, the cost is 1$ per 1 MB.
Hi, I'm new to this site and definitely not a "techie", was wondering if anyone can help?
Recently purchased a QTek 9100 (aka imate jam, wizard?) and set up a new messaging profile for use with lineone (Tiscali) in the UK. I'm receiving e-mail no problem, but whoever I try to send to Ithe message is sent then returned to the draft folder and in my inbox I get the message
"System Administrator, Your message 'xxx' was not sent and has been moved to the Drafts folder. The following recipients are invalid: "
Any ideas?
Solution??
I had the same problem. My solution was to open an email account with vodafone (its free) and created a rule to forward my mail to the new vodafone email address. I can recieve and send mail via the vodafone account with no problem. I think that many isp's don't allow you to log on with mobile devices.
I have a signature set up saying the mail was sent "ia my Kjam but please reply to my work email address", so i have a copy on my desktop and on the mobile device.
Only drawback is that you must logon to the vodafone account and delete you old meassages once in a while.
Hope this helps
Isn't it just the outgoing smtp server that is wrong?

Yes, I sure your right about this. I found that I get really fast, 100% logon with Vodafone email solution. I have worked in Spain, Italy, USA since I got my 9100, the email is always there every 15 mins. I need to be in touch, this works for me.
Thanks for the responses,
Yes I've set up a completely new account with Vodafone, this allows me to send mail and then I connect to lineone to receive. I don't particularly want to have my mail re-directed through Vodafone so this seems to be a good compromise.
Hi guys, looks like your smtp address is wrong, like q-big suspected. You can use the pop server of your email account to get mails from any mail server, but when you want to send mail over themail servers of your mobile provider, be sure to set the smtp server to the one Vodafone (in your case) uses. example: I have various email accounts on my Wizard. My incoming mail server (POP server) is different for each of my email accounts, since they are with various different email services. My smtp server is the same for all of them, namely T-Mobile smtp, since all my email will be sent out using T-mobile gprs.
Try setting the smtp server to the one your provider uses and you should be ok.
have you made sure you have authentication tcked for your outgoing mail? go into your account settings for the mail account you want to use. press next untill you get to the screen where you put the incoming and outgoing mail servers and click options, next and tick "outgoing mail requires authentication"
as your not connected to the internet using your isp (tiscali in your case) you have to authenticate to send mail too to stop people spamming from there servers
Yep, you just need to use the vodafone's smtp server and that should solve your troubles.

I had this problem. I spoke to my ISP who supply the e-mail addy in question.
They said that they blocked e-mails coming from any other connection than their own - i.e. unless you send the e-mail from your home computer (with the ISP account) it will be blocked and get that "invalid recipient" message.
There's a post out there somewhere that gives other "outgoing mail server" settings which seem to work, but that's on O2, not Vodafone.

I think on voda the smtp server is send.vodafone.net
i know it sounds odd, but it worked fine when i was on voda in the UK a while ago.
I had a same invalid error but it was just the smtp port AND smtp authentication. PUt both of those together and worked!
Hi guys!
Yesterday I try using gmail account on my pocket outlook (i-mate Jamin with WM5!)... it works fine but I have some questions:
Usually I read my mails (gmail) with the gmail site from my office pc (can't use outlook in office... sogh!). I'd like to configure gmail and my Jamin in order to can read my mail when I'm out of office... near an hotspot for example or connecting via EDGE or connecting on LAN...
Is it possible to configure gmail to chenge the status of the mail I read via pop3? I'd like to see "as read" the mails I download via pop3 on my Jamin.
Is it possible to retrieve via pop, on my Jamin, only the unread mails? If I don'd connect my Jamin to internet for a month, for example, I don'e want to receive all the mails that I just read from my office via the gmail site.
I create new account for gmail on my Jmain message because I can't modify std outlook mail account as gmail... is it the right way? Why I can'd delete or modify the outlook account? Now I have: SMS, MMS, GMAIL and Outlook but I can't understand the outlooc account reason...
Gmail
Hi Mark
As I understand it Outlook on the Jamin is just for sync ith a PC.
The 'gmail' account is for that email acc only.
Double check the following is correct and should solves your various problems:
Go to messages, menu, tools, options. Click on 'gmail'.
Email:
Your name: First Last
Username:
Password: password
Account Information:
Account Type: Pop3
Name: GMail
Incoming Mail: pop.googlemail.com
Outgoing mail: smtp.googlemail.com
Domain: (leave blank)
Options
These are fairly standard, but check your connection is 'The Internet' and hit next and that SSL is ticked.
Re-reading your post it seems like you have done this already!! (Duh)
OK - easy part - goto your gmail account on a desktop PC (or if you are being smart on your pocket PC!) mail.google.com.
Goto Settings and then Forwarding and pop3 settings there should be an option called POP download - mark the radio button that says "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on".
Should do it!
I do it! Thanks!
Hi Gurus,
I have a major problem and am tearing my hair out. I've searched this forum as much as I can, and followed as many instructions as possible, but am still no closer to resolving.
I have an Orange SPV M600, which I've unlocked and have out an O2 online sim only in it - all fine so far.
I have deleted all gprs/wap setings for orange
I have set up O2 gprs settings as per the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=265647 - just the gprs and MMS part though (not wap) submitted by s_h_a_h_i_d (many thanks for your info).
I've then gone to messaging, and have attempted to get my UK yahoo mail coming down to the phone. I can receive everything, but whenever I try and send email from the account, i get the "Mesages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your email account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again". I let the phone get the settings from yahoo, and everywhere I've looked, the settings are definitely pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk and smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk with a blank domain.
Someone please help. This is insane
TIA
Javi

very normal, not your machine problem. If you know which ISP are you connecting to by WIFI, use the smtp server of that ISP. It will be okay.
If you're using a GPRS connection then you need to change the outgoing server to smtp.o2.co.uk
thanks for the reply guys. smtp.O2.co.uk worked. Happy holiday season

Try deleting and recreating your email accounts using the windows mobile email setup and not the sense email setup. It seems to work better and have more options settings.
Where is this option?
Thank
I resolved it, well the problem is that the new rom of telstra (1.72) hardcod the telstra connection to gmail and yahoo.
The solution is configurate the email account from windows and not from sense.
Go to start-email- setup-email. Ok, now you need to put your email BUT dont put gmail or yahoo becouse the phone detect it and hardcod the telstra setting.
You can put for example _gmail.com or _yahoo.com. the next, next, then you nedd to configure you email pop or imap email account. When you arrive at the configure the smpt you can choose advance setting and change telstra.internet for you operator.
When you finish, you can returned an change @_gmail for @gmail or @_yahoo for @yahoo
Bye.
